One of the best Imperial Guard tank-based logs I've seen. More, please!

Tinners, this is probably a dumb question, but how do you cut out circles in plasticard? Like the one for the hatch on the turrets of the Ragnaroks?

I'm OK at scratchbuilding with plasticard, but I can't get circles to work at all...

Thanks!

I use a compass cutter, sorry for the late reply..

Anyway, been cracking on these tanks, trying to get them finished as soon as I can. Hopefully I can get all 6 Ragnaroks and the ISU styled Ragnaroks done as well.

So...many...rivets

Looks great, really! I'm curious, though, about what you'll be doing for tracks on all of your scratchbuilds.

Tinners
27-09-2009, 10:18
I'm honestly planning on cheating on that part. The plan is to mix enough plaster with the pigment/resin, that I'll be able to make mud that is deep enough to hide the fact there are no tracks.

Going for the "heavily weathered" look, then? Fair enough...

Edit
I guess I should have said "extremely muddy" rather than "heavily weathered."

The Demolisher Ragnaroks won't all have white stripes, I'm adding a bucket full of paint to one so it looks like they are in the middle of doing them. Needs pigments and slogans, however I don't have any slogans, so those will have to wait.

Great Work!

How did you get the lines of the plasticard to stay so true? Did you use a jig-saw to make all the parts such a uniform shape or did you use the old knife and steel ruler?

Looking forward to seeing more.

Tinners
16-10-2009, 00:03
Just ruler and knife, tho I've started using a chopper for smaller details, and its made such a difference.

Anyway, more tanks. This time based of t-60 light tanks. They will count as sentinels in the end, two with autocannons and one with a missile launcher.

Hm, that's weird. It worked both times earlier, but now, as you say, it's buggered. Hang on . . . when I click it, it redirects me to a bandwidth exceeded message. However, if I copy the link it works fine. Maybe they're still in my browser from earlier. Try "Copy Link Location" then paste the full address into a new tab/window, and see if that helps.

EDIT: It does. I just tested it on the first Demo Ragnarok pic above.

Yeah, threadnomancy. Have something of value to add apart from "Been following your logs on several boards for a while now.", so it should be ok.

With regards to making a plasma constriction coil for a plasma cannon - I just use ribbon cable. The sort you find in any computer store. Available in various widths, too. Takes much of the work out (and you don't have to worry about keeping the coil tight while manually winding it).

Put the join on the bottom/underside of the coil and you can cover it pretty easily.
It takes paint, and drybrushes up rather nicely, too.

21-03-2011, 21:54
ARKs (Armoured Ramp Karriers) were a british design in WW2 originally built for getting tanks over sea walls after beach assaults. Basically drive it up to the wall, dump the ramps down and the tanks could go up and over. Later they were used for ditches, and even small rivers, were the tank would just drive into the small river and the crew would just climb out. Then be towed out after the tanks were across.

This is brilliant - I love the fact that the crew-man seems to be at ease on top of the walker. The executioner cannon also fits really well. Put it this way - if it was a kit I'd buy it.

One question, are those round plates at the bottom of the legs feet or are they just simply for the balance of the mini itself?

I had to look here to figure out what you intended with your hellhounds, but everything is just insane. I love the ISU-203 (let's face it, I doubt your shadowsword is a 152mm gun since you have ISU-152's) and everything is just very impressive. Looking forward to more, since I subscribed to this insanity. The paintwork is beautiful in its stark simplicity.

This is so amazing. I could never imagine making anything this intricate out of plasticard, that's why I did so much ork work. I guess you are going to plaster the "tracks" up at the same time to save wasting plaster?

I was wondering how big your collection of plasticard actually looks, and if it's not too much to ask, maybe a picture ha. Cos you must be burning through it at this rate.

Your work has been very inspiring for me, and many others too, I'm sure. I hate to see you go, but I hope we'll see you back again someday. In the meantime, be prepared for all of your photo-hosting bandwidth to disappear as everyone tries to grab as many images of your work as possible... :D

Awk you people are mad.

Tinners: I will miss you; your work is my golden standard in the scratch building of armour.

See above. You are all mad!

I have to agree, Tinners, your stuff is inspirational. You're up there with Sheep, Le Mediko, and a select few others.

And again. Mad.

Incredible stuff you got here! I'm greatly inspired and amazed. :)

Hobbies like this come and go, I went through the same a few years ago, just churning out stuff, then I found new interests. That's how it is I suppose.

But you will be back, just you wait. ;)

That display board is amazing! Reminds me of this idea I had ages ago to make a true scale fighting scene from the film 'A bridge too far', where one side of the room would have the germans hidden in the woods with machine guns and anti-tank guns and the british on the other side trying to take up positions in the ditches and manouevring their tanks around the hit ones to respond to the german defensive positions.

Cant wait to see all your models on that one! Will be great!!!!

Aww you guys. :'(

As for the display board, the issue is...the ragnaroks are MASSIVE. Almost too big for it, so I had only planned to do one board, but it wasn't big enough, so became two

The Siege Gun variant of the Colossus (did it have a name? I seem to have missed it!) is one of the coolest models i've ever seen. I saw the close up pictures in another thread and all the little detail around the cab just looks so ... realistic is the wrong word. It just looks *right*.

Tinners
01-09-2011, 22:33
Its a cyclops. Originally a Squat vehicle, like the Collossus. It uses a "hellfurry" cannon, which is basically a squat version of a Lance from a starship.

While I said I was finished, several threads have inspired me to continue. Sorry for all the sadness guys.

Anyway, I want to finish the leviathans/colloussus, and make an ICBM/Mega deathstrike version, and possible a purely troop transport version.

I also want to make more ragnaroks due to a few threads on various forums.

Top is the current ragnaroks and bottom is what the new ones will look like. Based on the KV-5 rather than the KV-2. Blame World Of Tanks.

Some awful fluff.

"While the Ragnarok "Mk1 Mobile Bunker" Proved to be a cheap stop gap alternative, and effective in numbers. The sheer size, lack of speed, and slow turret traverse speed proved to be a massive weakness. In Combat against Ork groups known as "Speed Freakz", the Lumbering Ragnaroks proved to be ineffective at best and useless at worst. SKB 2 design bureau was given six months to design the revamped Ragnarok and deliver a prototype, Object 725.

This new variant shared very little in common with the Mk1, using only similar track units to the original. The Turret was larger and sloped, which provided more room and better protection from incoming fire, the new Turret also had greatly improved traverse speeds, insuring it could track and follow faster moving targets. Now fitted with two 2368cu in/39 litre, 1600hp engines, it was faster and could keep up with the smaller faster, Leman Russ's and Chimera vehicles.

Its first combat debut was agaisnt a Deff Skull Armoured Krumpany, where 25 Ragnarok Mk-v5s faced an Ork horde numbering 56 Vehicles, many being looted imperial vehicles. The Ragnaroks met the the Orks in a large open steppe near the city of -censored-. By nightfall 2 Ragnaroks had been destroyed and 4 had been immobilized. 54 Ork vehicles lay destroyed, none having passed the Imperial defensive line. One of the immobilized Ragnaroks had been hit 32 times by large calibre weapon fire, but was operational within a week.

The tank was considered a sucess, giving the Imperial forces on -censored- a massive advantage over the Deff Skullz."

Another World of Tanks addict? :D I thought about KV-5 when I saw this second turret. I really don´t like, when I ding KV-5 turret with my IS-4. :D

KV-2 is ultimate weapon with famous 152 mm trollgun and HE ammo. :D

Btw from World of Tanks is only small step to Flames of War. :D
