Hey Rikard, this is for you. Fresh, I mean no touch ups, right smack out of the mold with a sprue sniped off, nothing else done to him. I should have everything for you on the way this weekend. I'll send it to your parents house. ;)

http://trollsforge.com/preview/lzcst1.jpg

The resin shows off how fantastic his stuff is. These are not the best pictures as I was hoding them and my hands are a bit shakey. :o

That is outstanding stuff, really happy with it and thank you so much for working so hard on this one. Good news is I've chatted with an exceptional painter about this piece and he's happy to get the copy you are sending me, painted up.

Apologies to everyone for the lack of sculpting, but things have taken a weird twist here and I have a serious amount of work to do before May, with any luck though I'll have some good news for you then and loads of pieces to show you.

Wow, just gotta say that turned out fantastic! Can't wait to see the painted piece, so as to shamelessly steal ideas :D. Looks like it'll be a wonderfully fun piece to paint. Looking forward to your new stuff soon, and cheers!

Life is long and hard still as I mentioned before.

This is not helped by the fact I am going to have to adjust and alter the lower body on the wight king (his center is off and it just doesn't have the detail the upper body has).

On the plus side after seeing the new artwork for Dawn of war 2 I decided to have a go at a Banshee exarch without the helmet.

I'll post up some more details about her tomorrow.

Amazing and such crisp work. You improved a lot on this one. I love the hair, face, jewlery, and armor. Most though the little hand bits, gauntlets. ;)

Rikard -

That model is gorgeous! I've been wanting to convert a female Autarch to stand in for Prince Yriel in my Eldar army, but didn't know how to go about it. If this gets cast, I will absolutely buy one.

TheDean04
19-03-2009, 03:48
wow that a nice eldar! almost makes me want to start in with 40k again!

edit: sorry if this has been asked but do you have a store that you sell the resin versions of these great models?

How much are you looking for for the banshee exarch?
i definately want one of those.
have been getting a bit p****d off with games workshop's apparent lack of
effort with eldar recently.
all of your sculpts look amazing and i have to say i am echo'ing Neknoh's reaction to
the lizard men sculpt.

rikard
19-03-2009, 07:33
Thanks for the replies everyone, just about to nip off to work but I thought I'd clear this up early.

This is a private piece and will not be for sale.
Unfortunately due to IP laws I would need to get the permission of Games Workshop and THQ if I wanted to cast and sell her.

Other models though like Nakai and the wight king are for sale and can be brought from Troll forged miniatures.

Braad
19-03-2009, 07:34
I've got nothing extra to add I think... Just a whopping great model!
The greenstuff work looks smooth, detail work is excellent, and (most important of all, if you ask me) the face looks very natural.

Is it still WIP or are you finished on that one?

HiveTrygon
19-03-2009, 11:22
As soon as Rikard gets me the assembled painted or plain cast pictures he is going up for sale. The casts do not do the mini justice so I'm looking forward to the painted ones.

On another note Rikard, why not do a female powered armor figure in a similar style yet with a influenece of infinity? We could cast those up for sure and with a little alteration they would still work? Just a suggestion. What do you all think?

I've seen these and cast them up for him so I can't tell you how nice they are in words. The casts blend the different layers together so well and seeing it in one color is amazing.

I plan to post the big guy for $19.99 due to his size, big. He fits comfortable on a 50mm base. I then split the sale 50/50 with Rikard as it just pays me for materials and the mold I made for him. I plan to keep supporting him all the way to the top when he gets picked up by some company down the road. To me the money is not the issue, it's getting or helping him get a sculpting job. Besides his stuff is to cool not to make avaliable for all of you. ;)

I will definitely be buying Nakia the day he goes on sale then. :D

yeah if there is any way around the exarch being labeled an eldar then you should, she is beautiful and I for one would buy one for sure. I would love to see your take on a farseer, or canoness :angel: wink wink

Is it still WIP or are you finished on that one?

I might change the hand position on the executioner as it's a bit too close to the bottom and looks unbalanced, but other than that she's finished, perhaps a sculpted helmet lying on the ground might work though.

@HiveTrygon
Not saying that thought has already crossed my mind :angel: I need to give a few people a shout for some sketch ideas (Borak would be a good guy if he's up for it). Thanks for all the help :)

@TheDean04
I was originally going to do the DOW farseer until I saw the helmetless banshe exarch

@No-One
Not at the moment, mainly just going with peoples suggestions (coatl is still at the top of my next troll forged list).

@Mr.chair and N810
Cheers guys glad you like how things are going.

@Urgat
If I am given some good artwork and ideas that don't break an IP laws it's definitely a possibility.

rikard
20-03-2009, 18:00
Hey Rikard, now that you are doing 40k stuff, do you think you might do a Horus or Emperor model? ;)

Nope :p

It's IP protected and both would be horribly long and fiddly.

@Braad and Eyeolas
An Orc is a future possibility, but would be a way off. Not counting the test sculpt I am working on or the Coatl that would be at least 3 more sculpts away.

@Teddy C
Not sure yet, shouldn't be too far off though, keep an eye on the troll forged miniature site.

That is a really beautiful banshee model. I've just started scuplting myself - so far I've completed 3 models, so I've a long way to go yet. Any chance of producing a tutorial? Especially one that shows the parts that most tutorials don't show - how you use the tools to get the right effects - eg folds in cloth?

Wow, truely superb sculpting in here.
dijit80 wouldn't be the only one happy about some kind of tutorial, or general wisdom sharing. I really wonder how you get the surfaces so smooth.
Anyway keep it up!

How did miss this??? This is fantastic! Incredible sculpting- looks like a GW sculpt. Ever think of seeing if FW would be interested in it?[Mentioned only in the vain hope that one day I could actually own a versionof that..]
Rikard your sculpting really is fantastic- really shown in the female figures you produce which in my opinion are the hardest things to do. You do them brilliantly.

Lord Azoth
30-04-2009, 09:28
as silverstu says..HOW I MISSED THIS?..very nice sculpt and pose...love the mane, can you explain how you did it?, first a base of putty, let it dry anf fter with GS the details?

@ the banshee exarch - oh ma gad. One crit. Her right arm with the pistol seems skinnier than the other arm. Around the biceps area.

I think the only way I could do that is if I actually filmed myself, something I don't have the equipment for. As for tutorials as a rule they're not the be all and end all, the best thing you can do is practice and try different modes and tools for yourself.

The reason I say this is because I have looked at loads of tutorials but I've never followed one from start to finish, every single sculptor has their own style and ways of building up a piece.

As for the smoothness, two words, Clay shapers.
I use firm tipped clay shapers for things like faces, armour and especially cloth and even rocks, they are definitely a must have in my books.

As for the hair, you're right I drilled a tiny hole in the back of her head, made some wire coming out of it and then sculpted three sausage like green stuff parts coming out. Once that was dry I then added a second GS layer over the armature and sculpted in the detail using a number 11 scalpel blade (though I've been told that it's best to use a number 15 or curved scalpel blade for hair)

I hope I got the numbers right. D:

I did actually resculpt the banshee, her left arm which grips the weapon was too thick towards the wrist and grabs the weapon in the wrong place making it look unbalanced. The binding on the weapon likewise was off so that needed a resculpt too.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v697/N-large/Bansheecopy.jpg

Ignore the central photo in that lot as that's just to show the detail on the blade and was taken before I made the changes.

As for other sculpts, life is busy at the moment but I am working on some other bits and pieces including a rotten Ushabti (based off the fluff of the Ushabti corrupted by Nagash' black magic). As well as some new sculpts.

Oh and this vampire below will be going to troll forged miniatures for casting along with the wight king.

Not sure, I'm sending them to be cast this monday though, so it all depends. :)

@Mireadur
Agreed, I was happy with the face and hair, but I think the armour, cape, pose and belt are too rough and the details not sharp enough.

@Chaos Puppy
Thanks man, hopefully some more bits and pieces to come soon.

21-05-2009, 14:08
Rikard, you are simply the guv'nor.

If you showed someone that banshee and said it was an up and coming Eldar release you found on the net, they would believe you.

Although I like the massive Kroxigor guy the most. Especially his mouth and teeth. They are exceptionally well done!

23-05-2009, 06:27
Sorry about ther lack of activity, I had a few other other bits and pieces going on, things that luckily have now drawn to a close.

I'm working on a couple of other sculpts so for test pieces (sculpts that will hopefully improve my sculpting), birthday presents and cast pieces.

yo Rich, TC from Brisbane here :p Great stuff with all ur work so far, would love to get my hands on at least 1 of ur finished sculpts. Where is the female commisar u promised me :D

Hey, how you been? I take it Flo hasn't passed on my email address to you yet?
Nakai will be availible from troll forged if you do want him (I've just got to paint up a copy of him to show on the site).

So a break down the sculpts to come so far....

Going to have a go at another Saurus (I know I don't collect lizardmen anymore but that one is a commissioned piece).
Ariel - Queen of the wood, going to try and copy the spell sping like pose for her.
An Ushabti and a Gotrek sculpt (birthday present).

Obviously more will be added to the list as time progresses (got a dark eldar and a warp spider exarch planned at some point).

@Chainsofsigil, thanks man, really glad you like them. :)

C-Coen
23-05-2009, 07:09
Not enough people have yet said how amazing that Eldar chick is, so I'll say it again: it's amazing. Even tough I pretty much hate 40k and I do love Lizardmen, I think it's your best piece so far.

That's quite an interesting list you got there, I'm especially looking forward to Ariel, she deserves quite a nice model for sure.
And what are you planning to do for the Ushabti?

Bluedestiny
26-05-2009, 08:06
Nope Rich, Flo hasn't passed it on to me yet.

rikard
26-05-2009, 20:25
Nope Rich, Flo hasn't passed it on to me yet.

Typical. :D

@C-Coen
Thanks mate, for the Ushabti I wanted an over the head pose, with a weapon ready to strike and a wide open mouth. I've had to put that on hold as I have a growing list of things to sculpt, mainly commissions (nothing for other companies though, except troll forged).

Current one in production (torso stage only at the moment) is a saurus with great weapon/halberd, in mid swing.

Ok so the photo is not great.... I will be getting a new camera soon, the canon I use doesn't even have macro and takes photos in a staggering 1.7 mega pixels! D:

Just a question, why do you send that vampire to trollforged, and not the other one (iirc, you had a much cooler version, no?)?

HiveTrygon
27-05-2009, 17:23
I finally got the stuff up for you:
http://trollsforge.com/lizardmen/azt.html

I did not do the best job cleaning them, just rubbed the flash off with finger, quick cut of sprue and pin, done. It gives you an idea how they look though. As for the sun god being a higher price, he is utterly HUGE! 5inches from bottom to top of weapon. In metal this guy would probably be $80+. Anyway, hope everyone is happy and sorry it took so long Rikard. I was sure the painter would do a better job than me, but seems we need to settle for me for now. :o

Anyway, here is a good shot of the resin, eye candy:
http://trollsforge.com/lizardmen/sungd1.jpg

I did get a few more pieces of his to mold and cast up but atm, have about 90 molds now to finish up with his in there, going to take me a bit, busy, busy, busy! :eek:

@soultaker87
Not sure how long they'll be before going to cast, but with any luck not too long, I'll keep you posted.

@Mr.chair
Thanks mate, glad you like it.

@Urgat
Did you mean the first one I did, right at the start of this thread? If so, I couldn't legally cast her as the IP is based of the 54mm version of Monique de Noir by Werner Klocke.

@HiveTrygon
Don't apologize, you've done so much work I don't think I'll ever be able to understand how you managed to fit it all in like you do, big thanks for everything. :D

@N810 Thanks for the vote of confidence. ;p

Nah, I seemed to remember another one, seems I'm mistaken.

eyeolas
27-05-2009, 19:17
Ya, there was the daemoness you did that seemed to go off the radar (it was a larger scale than 28). there was also the start of another vampire with 'bat shin guards' or something like that.

The only word that vaguely describes this is AWSOME. any hint as to what's next?

rikard
27-05-2009, 19:54
Nah, I seemed to remember another one, seems I'm mistaken.

Not quite, Eyeolas jogged my memory, there was one which got to lower body stage with bat knee guards, I think that one got scrapped as they details just weren't there.

The other was a demoness but she got scrapped too (with the exception of the head and the arms) she is going to be used again though. I was going to do a sculpt of Ariel Wood elf queen, I was going to try and bring her into a more recent design, so similar to the spell singers, floating off the ground.

@Eyeolas
Thanks for jogging my memory. :)

A weapon of that design is actually shown in the current Lizardmen armybook, so it's according to fluff if you want to field him in a lizzie army.
Anyway, those sculpts are still seriously awesome, great that it's now possible to have one of these.
Kinda makes me hope you will sculpt something Empire related in the near future. ;)
