View Full Version : Fluffystuff paints stuff ( orks and smurfs )

30-08-2008, 18:31
Hi everyone. So here I am again and it's time for another plog, and this time it's 40K. With the imminent release of AOBR ( and the TO40KP ) I've decided to start painting some 40K stuff. I haven't actually played since 1st edition and I've only got back into painting again this last year ( after a 5 year break ). For this years tale I'm painting 1000 points of Orks,( and 2000 points of VC for the TOFP ) and I've had a really good start and finished 2 months worth with a day to spare. Anyway, you don't want to hear me waffle on, here are some photo's.
I present my Warboss.........Ork Warlord Ghazghkull Thraka.

Holy crap mate, that's a really nice 'eavy metal style paint job.

Argh i remember when you started your VC log. Sorry i didn't follow on watching as i'm usually only in the sci fi logs :p

Really great paint job man! Really looking forward to some marines so keep it up!

I love how rusty the metallics are, so awesome :)

31-08-2008, 07:32
Stunning, simply stunning!

31-08-2008, 12:35
Thanks for the comments. Marines will come eventually, after the tale is finished in a years time probably:D
This is the first ork I've painted in about 15 years, I just hope that the boyz turn out just as well.

For a 5 year hiatus, you suer as heck did not lose any of your skills! Top stuff, and I can't wait to see more!!

PS: You will LOVE the new set! I don't play Orks myself, but I am having a jolly good time with the models in the new set (which I get to paint a bit early for a store! :P)

Thanks for the comments everyone. I'm very busy atm and struggling to get real life sorted aswell as my painting, so here's a quickie from this month so far.

Got 4 deffkoptas made, here's 2 of them ( made from totally butchering 3 bikes )

and a few boyz.

16-09-2008, 10:15
the deffkoptas rock! would love to see them painted, btw, nice painting on the boyz, guess your warboss will not stay a one-hit-wonder then!

Excellent painting here. I do not envy you having to paint a whole army of orks to that standard.

18-09-2008, 13:33
wow! fantastic job there! very clean! I think the only think I don't like about it is the green rim on the base, but I personally have never liked it. Everything else is stunning. This is going to be one incredible green tide!

Beautiful stuff here as usual Flufflystuff, loved your VC and loving your Orks, did you know Eavy Metal are looking to hire?

Thanks, and yes, just had an email off their group on facebook. Although I don't think I'm as good as the 'eavy metal team, and Nottingham is a bit far to commute. If I'm lucky I'll get laid of in about 6 months, but I can't see this happening tbh because I'm allegedly a key member of my team ( tech engineer). I also can't imagine that the 'eavy metal painters get paid a huge amount) ( that's not patronising them of course, it's a niche job ).
Besides, my dream is to become a tatto artist, but I think that unless I get laid off it will soon just become a pipe-dream.

Anyway, enough rambling. Still not finished the next 5 boyz ( only get to paint about an hour a day, and I try to never rush a job). I'm starting to regret doing 2 armies for the tale aswell. Looks like I can survive up to month 6, but then may have to drop an army.

BTW, marines will come in about a years time. LOL. I've decided on an Ultramarine army in a variant colour scheme Liche/Warlock purple with blood red edge highlighting and copper trim instead of gold. Just have to wait untill I've painted my ork horde, which TBH is probably over a year away.

Subscribing to keep track of this!

If you need any spare skin to practice on give me a shout :)

Good luck with the tale this year.

Ooo a tattoo artist! Why do you want to become one?

If you don't mind sharing it with us. What is the recipe for the ork skin! It really will make the horde bright and colourful :P

Because I love tattoo's, it's just another art medium. Here's a pic of my back from about 6 months ago ( it's even bigger now and some bits have been re-coloured.
I can actually tattoo ( to a degree ) and I can even build and tune tattoo machines ( being an electrical engineer is useful ), but I simply don't have time to develop it as a full time profession. It would involve me working unpaid for a number of months, which doesn't pay the mortgage or put food on the table.

Ork skin is virtually identical to the 'eavy metal method. Each layer is thinned, this is vital to get the paint on smoothly, and each layer has at LEAST 2 coats.
Base - Orkhide Shade (foundation)
Main Highlight - Knarloc Green (foundation )
Highlight - Knarloc Green/Goblin Green
Highlight - Goblin Green
Wash - Thraka Green (wash)
Highlight - Goblin Green ( again ) in straight lines to simulate muscle
Highlight - Goblin Green/Rotting Flesh ( 2:1 mix )
Highlight - Goblin Green/Rotting Flesh ( 1:1 mix)

The next 5 I've finished off with a wash/glaze of 1:1 thraka green/water, and they look a lot brighter.

I'd recommend reading the new WD on how John Blanche painted his orks, it's a very different approach using a very limited pallette and the new washes.

So we tanned his hide when he died Clyde, and that 's it hanging in the frame beside the fireplace! (apologies to you and Rolf Harris, but I could not resist)

Your orks are brilliant mate-the skin in particular is great- strong and vibrant- almost tempts me to start orks myself..and the defkptas look mean- looking forward to seeing you get them done.
Nice tat as well- I have a few myself- that must have chaffed a bit going on!! 'Eavy Metal painter or tattoo artist as possible future career paths...?? hope you get to chase one of them- lifes too short mate- mine you it's abit weird wishing someone the best with getting laid off!

22-09-2008, 15:01
Woah that is some wicked tat :D

Yeah well our WD over in Oz come out the first wednesday of every month or a few days before that if your a subscriber. Going to try out the colours this week since i got a heap of orkz to paint ;)
