Hey everyone! I am looking for a new army (right now i play guard and im building an alpha legion army from my old chaos minis) and i have come with two choices for my next army (the two in the poll, duh). I want a fun army that doesnt have to win. So far im leaning heavily towards harlequins but most of my friends are telling me to do witch cult because they are much cheaper points-wise. I personally dont care about points cost (obviously, since im gonna do harlies) but i do want an army that can win, not one that has absolutely no chance. No one in my area plays eldar anymore (i was the resident eldar expert with my biel-tan until i turned to the guard). The main reason i want to do harlequins is the fact that i will use storm guardians to represent them and it will be much cheaper to do a harlequin army, and the harlequin army will fit in one GW plastic case (right now i carry two cases and a shoebox for my tanks) and the space that my army takes up is also a big factor. I was thinking of sticking with my army until the new dark eldar codex comes out, but i heard that its almost two years away so im just going to start now.

Both armies will be all-mounted, and i already have models for the great harlequin and solitaire and death jesters i will use, but i need to buy the whole wytch cult army so it will be much more expensive (as mentioned above).

Thanks for any and all help!

Wych cult is based off an official addition to an existing codex, no one can quibble about balance with it . They also stand a fairly good chance of winning .

Harlequins is still an experimental list from the citadel journal . Its not tourney official, lacks balance and just plain can't win against armies with plenty of models and template weapons . In order to win you often need to field horrendously expensive characters, most games i've seen with them, people only tolerate them because of respect for the models and fluff . If you were just gonna use storm guardian models, it strikes me as lazy and cheap, and people will be less tolerant of such an unbalanced army . So i'd say wych cult, as a better all round army, can wins more, and will get you less grief from other players .

Can't harlies ally with DE? Seems like an obvious solution presents itself...

Yeah i know....but i dont really feel like buying tons of people. I probably will just do that though...take a harlie army with a squad or two of wytchs

If you don't want to buy loads of new models, don't start a new army . work on doing something different with one you already have .

no can do, the harlies ally to the wyches . so the wyches should form the majority of you army to make it worthwhile.

I vote wych as harlequins will just break your heart. Harlies were a weak army in 3rd ed. but the 4th ed. changes hurt them even more. The new rapid fire means they get trashed without a blow struck in combat. They're meant to be CC gods but really aren't that good now that everyone has hidden unit characters and the 2" fight rule. Used to be harleys were the only ones who got all attacks at 2" and they needed it to turn the tide. Also making bright lances heavy instead of assault really puts the hurt on death jesters.

They are still quite fast, have nasty characters, and the omnipotent wraithlords with 4+ cover save.

Why not just do up a Wych Cult but convert them up to be Harliquins instead? You get to use Harliquin Models and an Official Rules Set.

Harlequins. You don't have to buy many models. They as has been previously mentioned can be allied with Dark Eldar or Eldar. In this aspect they are very flexible. Harlequins are also a bit more survivable than a whych cult anyway. Both are specialised but Harlequins I find can pack a real punch. If you have not read the trial rules I suggest you do so. Interesting elites such as the Solataires always make people smile or in the case of the opponent grimace.

check out Ebay for your options, DE models are cheap and a plenty and the harlies often turn up as affordable

Do like Agis Neugebauer...
He has a Dark Eldar Wychcult painted up like Harlequins because they had such respect for them that they wanted to emulate their ways...

Hope this helps! :)
