View Full Version : IncrediSteve's Other 40K Log [Orkz, Eldar, Ultramarines, Etc]

14-09-2008, 04:45
Well I did threaten I do other logs along time ago, time to make good on it!

If for some reason you're seeing this before you've seen my Dark Mechanicus log (http://warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=130419), go look at it first! It's my main log for now.

This will be my other 40k log, for my normal armies that aren't quite as extreme as my Dark Mechanicus as far as every single model being a conversion goes. I'm a conversion fiend nonetheless though, so there should still be some cool things worth seeing pop up!

Ultramarines 3rd Company [red shoulder trim, Master of the Arsenal] were my first army back in 2000, and have been almost completely sold twice, though I shouldn't be selling off any of the 3rd generation as their paint scheme is acceptable though not my current best. They were also my first serious attempts at conversions,so there are some goodies in there. They'll come later though, when I get back into the Space Marine swing, most likely in October when the shiny new codex comes out and I can finally use combat squads without a squirrelly Dark Angels codex.

Eldar have always been one of my favs, and when the new codex came out in '06 I sold off the bulk of my ugly old Ulthwe stuff and got gobs of new stuff. I have about 3000 points of Eldar that need done. My conversion skills aren't mad enough to deal with the smoothness and curves of the Eldar, so really they'll just be shown to track my progress. They will be magnetised though, and I do have a commsioned Farseer on Jetbike done by Hortwerth (http://warseer.com/forums/search.php?searchid=946097) as a bit of centerpiece.

But the note I will be starting on is Orkz! I'd been itching to do Orkz ever since their last update, but vowed I would wait until Assault on Black Reach came out back when its contents were still rumored.

I've been working away on that, and as excited as I am about AoBR, we've all seen the pics a million times, so I'll only post things I convert and/or finish.

This one isn't my idea, and I can't find the original thread to give credit where due, but here is the infamous scratch built Killa Kan from paint pot:

A stashed away dried out bottle of Jade Green was my last old style paint pot; I've got some dried out newer style pots but they don't look as good, may look decent with a little extra work though. It's armed with a Kustom Mega Blasta, since with the Grot's BS3 Marksmanship I think it's the only place worth paying to upgrade the AP as it's otherwise just a Gets Hot rokkit launcha. It still has a rokkit in there though should I be tight on points, and the whole gun is magnetized so I can make more more weapons later.

Minor AoBR conversion to come include Big Bomms and a Buzz Saw on the Deff Koptas. I also vowed I wouldn't buy any Ork Kits until my Dark Mechanicus were built and painted up to 1500pts... so I'm sure you'll see a looted wagon and a scratch built dreadnought show up soon :-P

Comments welcome as always, and thanks for looking!

I like the idea, but you must paint at least a small part of it Jade Green.
I would add more stuff to the feet. They seem a little too small as is.

Yeah or give it trakks or wheels... I think with custom dreads, the major issue comes not from the chassis for the body, but from the 'legs' that make it so stompy!

hmmmm very interesting idea, I've never seen anyone do this before...
I really dislike the official models so this might be the way for me to go...
**starts drawing up plans**

i'm makin one right this minute and its because i cant afford 36 quid for three with little options, i'd rather habe the 33 boys or 2 trukks.

Yeah, I feel ya there. It's so tempting to want to just swing by the LGS and grab a box o' boyz, but I'm in a money crunch right now.

As for the feet, I'm thinking of adding some plastic rod to each toe, to give the impression of pistons, and maybe some squares of plasticard to make the feet bigger?

GF ran off with the camera, so no pics for a couple weeks, but I'll see what I can do to liven up the stompy bitz :chrome:

Okay, so after 1.35 years, you'd probably expect more than a single Ork as an update.

Well, lower your expectations, cuz this is IncrediSteve we're dealing with here! I figure I needed to post this because, if the date modified values on my photo dump folder are anything to go by, this is the first thing I've painting in 21 months and a day.

First, my paint collection needed dusting off, violent shaking, and some de-gunking:

Holy cow! Taller'n a Ork! That's enough paint clumps to block line of sight to an Obliterator! [on that note, maybe I've just made some colorful terrain...]

Now to the actual Ork. I'm no pro, and super rusty, so I'm happy with a drybrushed tabletop standard. He looks mighty nice in person, my gimpy photo rig doesn't do so hot when color gets added to the equation.

So that's my sudden burst of productivity, hopefully I can keep it up! My new work schedule leaves me with 3 day weekends, maybe I'll get some serious business done...

Oh and somewhere in there I upgraded the Kan to have a Grotzooka:

Still have yet to sit down and figure out what I'll do with the feet, most of my work goes to tinkering with the Dark Mechanicus [link in my sig, with my newfound time they should be getting an update before too long].

And here comes 2010 single miniature number five! Yeah! One model a month baby! :cries:

I got inspired to dust off the Eldar when the mighty Sheep (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59410), in his infinite amazingness, painted my converted Farseer [commissioned by Hortwerth (http://www.warseer.com/forums/search.php?searchid=2061211)] as a way of thanks. You can view it in his Xenos (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=250702) Log here (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=250702&page=2#30).

Thanks to Sheep all I need to have a playable Eldar army now is one more painted troops choice. No Eldar Army should leave home without Dire Avengers, so here's my first:

The rest of them are undercoated, so hopefully I'll knock the unit out in a few days, and finally have something besides Space Marines to take out gaming!

Just found this log mate :) Looking good, the paint pot dred is fantastic. I agree with Tommy, the feet need abit more. They're alittle bit small atm.

Thanks Sheep! Yeah, stompin' up the feet is on the agenda, but decidedly on the back burner ever since the lovely new plastic ones came out, relegating this guy to an Apocalypse-only gag unit.

Haven't quite gotten it together yet to assembly line the Dire Avenger, but I did sit down and finally dust off these Fire Dragons that have been mostly done for the better part of 3 years:

I have mixed feelings on the banner. It's fairly clean, but looks a little plain. Straight lines are an incredible challenge for me, so I might replace it with a paper-thin plasticard rune and then paint over it. What are Warseer's thoughts? Decent? A feeble-handed disaster forever scarred upon the mini's surface?

I plan to give banners like these to all the Exarchs, carrying the theme throughout my army. Each Dire Avenger squad comes with an extra one, so this should be easily doable.

Oh japanese cons, very nice, saw those in the jes goodwin concept art, and have wanted to see some one do on, looks good mate.

I don't think you need to redo it, it looks good to me.

20-05-2010, 01:15
Thanks Sheep! I found it was acceptable, but lacking, so I added some details [Flame of Asurymen] and tried for something more complicated on the other side. Also changed the helmet gems from dark green [hard to see] to Orange [a bit more thematic]:

Well there, I've used up the last of leisure posts, the next 2 have to be special. Time to get to work, keep my DarkMech log locked... :chrome:
