I don't know if this has been posted before so if it has can someone give me the link:)
Well i just want to ask the people on warseer how they prefer to arm their Hierodules Barbed or Scythed? and why?

I think the barbed would do better in gameplay, but the scythed ones are way more tyrannid-ish!

Barbed. I haven't gotten around to doing the conversions (or finangling my way into an Apoc game around here), but the Scything seems kinda bad. You're gonna get more chances to use those guns than the extra attacks, I think.

The Scythed might be worthwhile with a Mycetic Assult Storm formation, though.

Scythed. Looks a lot cooler.

My vote for the barbed hierodule... those cannons are really useful against anything your oponent throws at you.

Barbed...'cause now (5th) guns matter :)

The barbed hierodule is better to start of with as its guns are good vs everything (i have 1), but i plan to get a scythed later on to use in the meismatic spore cloud formation as it can deepstike into close range and use its bio acid spary strength 6 ap3 hellstrom which will own troops; But get the barbed first. (can't afford scythed yet :P)

the apocalypse datasheet variant dishes out an absurd number of str10 shots and the FW rules set gives it mass points and I prefer the model

A scythed version may however make its way into my hive fleet too.....

Barbed one can deep strike in that apoc reloaded formation. least i think so.

Barbed has mucho dakka.

Barbed. It doesn't need to reach combat to do some damage.

scythed, much more useful w/ the new apoc deepstrike rule

Why not get one of each? That's what I have... ;)

I like the Scythed better as it is great at ripping through tanks, but the Barb's guns sure are useful as well...

sythed because his carnifex mates can get i think 16 st 10 attacks with him in apoc but if you use both like me also use mytoioc(sp) spore and drop them by enemy armour and watch them get upset.:)

Scythed, CC is tyranid-ish, guns are not (and I'd go so far as to say that the Scythed heirodules flamer attack is too much, but I just pretend its spitting bio-acid...)

Scythes has more style.
Speaking of hierodules, what is the point of putting an hierodule in the crusher brood? The special rules only affect the carnifexes.

I am getting a Trygon.

the neckbone

barbed is much sweeter cause the weapon is sweet and its still pretty sweet in combat

14-01-2009, 08:03
why not put him in a crusher brood? you can still mycotic spore them behind the opents gun line

i love the big nid gribbleys thats why i have 12 carnifex both hierdoules and hierophant. They are VERY good at dropping behind the opents dug in tanks or heavy wepons leaving a loads of empty chared broken tanks in your wake ;).

which draws fire from your big gribbly enough for him to sprint across the table and jump on the openets titan. :)

When you take everything into account the SCYTHED hierodule is the best

Scythed benefits:
1) cheaper points
2) more gargantuim creature attacks
3) the apocolypse large flamer template ap3 weapon (auto hits no bs needed)
4) the flamer template weapon can get over 30 models under it

scythed drawbacks:
1) needs to get closer to eneimies than the barbed (but gargantuim creatures move 12" anyway and the scythed hierodule can run and still fire his flamer template or run twice and not fire, then still assault, giving him upto a 30" assault)

Barbed benefits:
1) 12 str8 gun shots (but remember bs3 so not many hits)
2) is good far away and up close

barbed drawbacks:
1) costs more points
2) not as many attacks
3) 4+ to hit with weapons

I hope that sums it up

Feel free to disagree but it clearly shows the answer
