View Full Version : Pouk's Log ---> Iyanden, Blood Angels <---

Hello and welcome!
Since the last opening message was a bit too random and quick I decided to redo it...
I finally decided to start a project log so that I actually push myself to finish armies (because I have a lot of them!).
My first army to be finished will most likely be my Iyanden Eldar.

And that's about it. I will be posting posts with every unit later on.
Now, other than that I am also starting a Blood Angels (?) army. I can't post a list of contents right now, because I don't know anything.... I don't know whether I will use the Blood Angels list, or the new SM codex. And I don't know if they will be Blood Angels or a succesor chapter. I was thinking of borrowing bits from the Black Templars. So, question of the post:

---> What should I do with the Marines??? <---
~> Use Black Templar Bits?
~> Use BA codex?
~> Use new codex?

My main problem with using BT bits is that I wan't be able to use most of the SM minis for veterans and such...
What say you??

Ok, so I decided to do nice little step by step minis, if not for anything else, to remember the colours I use!
So, first things first, I never actually plan to use Yriel, since I generally avoid using special characters in non-apocalyptic battles, but I decided that it was a shame not to have the only Iyanden special character out there, even if he didn't existed 3 years ago!
I wanted to use an actual Iyanden colour scheme, not the corsair-y black gw gave him, so prepare for lots of yellow!

Step 1:
Well, it's flat colours time! I used Iyanden Darksun on the cload and armour, Mechrite Red on the nid part, Dheneb Stone for the flesh, Fenris Grey for the hair, Mordian Blue for the backpack and Iyanden flag and Chaos Black on the spear and cybernetics.
After that I painted the cloak with Vomit Brown, since otherwise the whole mini would have the same quality of yellow all over and wouldn;t be all than nice!

Step 2:
The hardest part with Iyanden is the yellow! I started layering on the cloak from vomit brown to sunburst yellow, and then highlighting with skull white. After that it's sunburst yellow over the darksun on the armour.
I left some parts out (like the shield) since they will be painted with a gold effect.

Step 3:
After the yellow is finished I go for the blue parts. It's enchanted blue over the mordian, leaving mordian only in the recesses. After that, layering with icy blue and highlights with skull white.

Step 4:
It's detail time. First of all the head is painted by adding white to the dheneb stone. liche purple on the eye and a purple wash glaze. That was inspired by the warlock pick on the 4th edition rulebook. They seem more alien-y this way !
I decided to go with blue for the details so it was mordian blue to all the raised areas in the cloak and armour, followed by devlan mud wash near the raised areas (to cover any mistakes!)

The gold effect is mud wash, and then layers with darksun + white till pure white. It's not the best effect, but it's quick, easy and looks good tabletop!
The hair were washed with asurian blue and the drybrushed with shadow grey and space wolves grey.

Okay, I jumped a step or two!
The black is highlighted with codex grey+chaos black, pure codex grey, pure fortress grey and some pure skull white. The blue details were picked up with space wolves grey and swg + white. A mud wash was applied to the parts where the armour touched the cloak. The banners have the same gold effect described above. Last but not least, the nid part wash mechrite red + rotting flesh for the fleshy part and mechrite red + bleached bone for the bony part!

All done! I must say that I quite like him this way! I admit that I rushed him and it shows in some parts but as a whole I believe that I did him some justice!
Now even if you don't like my painting scheme your time wasn't wasted, since you now know that you don't like Yriel painted yellow!

Yriel with his buddy! Most likely bossing him around, being the supreme autarch and all that!

Something wicked this way comes! A cookie to the first one that recognizes him!

So, I hope that you liked my first try at doing something organised! If you liked it stay tuned cause I plan to make more of these!
Criticism is welcome!

hey poukis

nice eldar, i really like the exarch
as for your questions about your marines -> i see no problem using BT bitz, even if you do reg marines or BA, just carry the theme through and use the templars insignias as part of your armies crest/honours/awards/etc.
thats just my input

also is that a carnifex moving to yriel and the exarch?

Heh, nice guess, but he's not! I just can't bring myself to paint tyranids :D
But what's coming is horny none-the-less :D
About the marines... I always said that if I ever decide to paint marines I will do something that will include many things from the range and it seems to me that a custom chapter will most likely be the way to go!
