Personally I have much more fun when I have a teammate when playing 40k. I like how it changes the dynamics of a game, 1000 points of marines and 1000 points of gaurd against 1000 points of chaos and 1000 points of daemons makes for some interesting and fluffy battles.

Working out a plan with a teammate and actually implementing that plan successfully can be a challange and it think it adds something to the game. The implementation of units from different armies on two seperate FoC's also makes for some great situations that you can't replicate in a 1v1 game of 40k.

I know alot of people in my group of friends simply hate 2v2 games, they like have complete control of their side of the table and do not enjoy the limitatations 2v2 presents.

What do you think? 2v2 yay or nay?

I think it depends on who you play with. From my experiance playing with friends, it kinda of becomes two 1v1 games going on at the same time, and in honesty is boring. With long drawn out turns of shooting..assulating and the like.

But, if it were to be some kind of fluff battle, or some other special scenario, then I think that would be alot of fun to play, but for me regular 2v2 seems..boring.

Me and my cohorts regularly play in 2v2 games and really enjoy them. Its a random roll to see who is paired with who (this throws up some crazy combination's of armies) and then let battle commence.

I find them really fun as the tactics have to adjust on the fly when you realize who you are up against. And you have to take into consideration your teammates units and what they would be good for. Also the banter between yourself and your teammate is often great.

I can understand how it can quickly deteriorate into 2 1v1 games, but for our gaming this isn't a problem since we try to mix our deployments up. So that it isn't simply 1 army facing another army. More like parts of armies facing off against a similar line up.

If executed properly 2v2 games are very enjoyable (personally I wouldn't go anymorep layers per side unless you inted to play apocalypse) - the real trick however is to stop 2v1 matchups.

It also heavily promotes tactical understanding - if both players on a team understand how they can combine their forces to maximise strengths (a obvious matchup would be DE and necrons on a team - they basically cover each other's weaknesses) then games can be played insanely aggressively.

I enjoy the odd 2v2 game here and there, but it certainly couldn't replace 1v1.

I like 2V2 as well. We also do 2V3 (1500X2 VS 1000X3) or whatever works for people that show up. Yes they make for long games but they can be quite fun. Sometimes you need to do things like throwing your entire close combat army at the emeny as a speed bump to win as your ally sits back and shoots safely from cover but a win is a win.

2v2 games is where it's at, as long as you have the proper sized board and some terrain to go with it. If you dont have those then larger games are just not worth it. However if I do a 2v2 I like to field 2000 pts per player and have a large scale game. A 2v2 game is also good for getting new people involved or those with smaller armies. Have them field a smaller amount while you do larger and the game will still work.

Big yay from me. I personally love multiplayer matches very much. Even if they are rarelly fluffy in my neck of the woods, the additional challenge and teamwork more than makes up for it. We often play 2vs2 or 2vs1 (lone player gets 2 force org. charts) and I've come to prefer having a teammate to playing alone, multiplayer match or not.

I've been playing with the same friends for many years and now with school, work and GFs sucking our time we rarely get to meet each other and when we do we usually play warhammer, so being able to see more friends on those occasions is a damn good excuse to play multiplayer games.

2v2 can be very fun. Depend on the players and armies, in my experience. Heh, back with the Eye of Terror codex, my friend ran an Ulthwe strikeforce army. Bascially the game was a 2 on 1 with Ulthwe's ally screaming "OH SWEET MERCIFUL FATES! HELLP! RAPE! FIRE! OW!" until Ulthwe jumped in and unloaded in one nasty turn of shooting and saying "alright....let's play for a draw!" ahha. Dark eldar(not using webway) and Ulthwe....not necessarily the greatest combo but it was fun.

2v2 games are excellent, and can be good fluff wise too, as Ubermensch Commander said ,when the EoT codex was out, you got some pretty cool combos going on.

I used to really like playing a variation of Space hulk with 2v2, it was fun :D

I've played many games of 6 or 7 to a side with no problem. The trick is in limiting the units on the field. rather than each player bringing 1500 points or so, we allow then to have certain items. For example, whoever is the HQ player on each side gets his HQ slot plus a command squad, or escort. The other players have 1 or 2 troops, or a couple tanks, 3 assault squads, etc. That way, it's like having a 4K points single army on each side, but with players actually taking the roles of the unit commanders, rather than the whole army concept that 40K is designed around. You also need at least a 4X8 table.

It's quite enjoyable, and not really much longer than a regular game. It's especially useful if you have players with differing levels of experience, that you have someone act as an umpire who is well versed in the rules.

to avoid the 1v1 battles make sure that both forces are spread across the deployment zone.

guard in front laying down the fire and some marines behind waiting to take on the H2H

or marines doing what they do and the guard having the tank backup.

it cn be fun if done in good spirit

:skull: I've had very good success with 2 vs 2 games. They're every bit as enjoyable as 1 v 1 games. :skull:

Last night I filmed a 3700 point Team Orks vs. Team Imperials (BA/SoB) game, 1850 per player.

It was awesome and the guy who arranged it said they would do it again in a few weeks. Should have it on YouTube soon.

Whenever we have 4 players at one table we usuallly play the Carnage scenario that appeared in WD several years ago: 4 players deployed deep in their corners with the goal of having the most modela at the centre of the table at the end of the game. The rules could use an update for 5th. but it's fun as is.
