THE TALE OF FANTASY PAINTERS 2008-2009 MONTH 7

Hello chaps,

Even if you have used two jokers you should now have 1000 points and be half way through the project.
If you have not used any jokers ... firstly well done you but secondly at 1,400 points approx i am looking forward to some great army shots.

Lots of great stuff posted again last month. Apologies AGAIN I have had so little time to make a fuss of everyones work. Big month for me last month applied, interviewed and got a new job, wifes birthday, valentines day, Studio Open day AND painted 200 points for three armies to stay in this!

Great to see the rest of you offering so much encouragement and support. However we seem to have lost a few around the half way mark. So those of us left in this thing must try even harder to encourage each other to see this through.

This is the thread on which you post your work for month Seven. (The work you have done in the month of FEBRUARY).
Please make only one post in the first week.

Your post should include:

1) The description and points of the unit AND YOUR TOTAL POINTS SO FAR.
2) Any additional information you care to share with us about your painting.
3) Up to four photographs of your months work and the army so far.

A WORD ON PHOTOGRAPHS

You can use up to four photographs (the maximum allowed in a post by warseer). To show us your months painting and the 'army' so far. The best size for showing your work is 640x480 (It can be smaller or you can use ‘thumbs’ which link to bigger pictures but they must not be bigger or it takes too long for the pages to load). The best thing to do is to resize them, wherever you are hosting your images, and then drag and drop the ‘img code’ directly into the text.

THIS MONTH (MARCH) WIP THREAD

AFTER THE FIRST WEEK ... This thread will become the 'normal' ... comment and crit’ of others work, Work In Progress (WIP) pictures of your work as it develops, how you are getting on, seeking advice and encouragement for your ideas and your painting and generally chatting about the project, life and the cosmos.

However, please continue to only post your work for the first week. This is to give everyone a chance to post up their finished work before it gets lost amongst a sea of chat and WIP shots.

The MONTH 5 Thread will remain open through-out this week so folks have somewhere to continue to chat about the Tale.

I hope everyone has had a great months painting.
I look forward to seeing everyone’s work.

All the best
Harry

I WILL TRY AND GET THIS UPDATED ASAP

WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT?

The aim of The Tale of Painters (TOP) is to help motivate those involved to start and complete an army in the next twelve months.

We made a decision early on to split the Tale into two separate 'halves' one for 40K and one for Fantasy. They have continued to evolve in slightly different ways but this is how the Fantasy Tale works.

The painters involved have made a commitment to paint and post, by the last day of each month, approx 200 points of their chosen army. They do this each month for the next 12 months. Starting with their first post on the last day of August 2008 and finishing with their last post on the last day of July 2009.

However, because people have real lives with exams, holidays, honeymoons, new babies etc, etc. They get two 'Jokers'. For two months within the year you can ‘play a joker’ and rather than post an update they can post "sorry guys couldn't get it done this month. Real life got in the way." But the other 10 Months they have to come up with (approx) 200 points of painted and based figures. That is 200 points for 10 of the next 12 months.

At the end of each month a new thread will appear for the painters to post your previous months painting.

In twelve months time we will all end up with a finished 2000 point army.

THIS MONTHS PAINTING:

CHARACTER/UNIT: Cauldron of Blood with Death Hag

BUILD/CONVERSION: Straight out the box.

PAINTING: For the Cauldron itself, I painted the whole thing in Shining Gold, washed in Badab Black and Sepia and highlighted up gently to Burnished Gold. I then moved on to the black and added some effects with a mix of black/shadow grey.

The Death Hag and crew are done in the same way as my Witch Elf unit completed in Month 2 of the tale.

BASING: Same as previous months.

STILL TO DO: Add some water effect to the blood to make it shiny and give it depth.

HIGHS AND LOWS: The crew are very nice models and I enjoyed painting them up. I wasn’t a big fan of the Death Hag model before I started but it’s really grown on me. The Cauldron itself is painted up fairly basically. Annoyingly it doesn’t sit right on the base (it leans to one side). Must be French!

Overall I’m very happy with how the army is coming along and still have lots of motivation to get it finished. I’m even thinking about carrying on the Dark Elves for the next tale to boost it up to 4000 points. Time will tell!

POINTS: 200 points. Current army total now stands at 1420 points.

PLAN FOR NEXT MONTH: Some of the most beautiful models in the whole Warhammer range – a unit of Executioners.

THIS MONTHS PAINTING:

Unit: Snotlings, Savage Orc Great Shaman, 3 Fanatics, 5 Savage Boyz, 8 Boyz

Build: Snotlings are "home-made", all else is straight from the box.

BASING: Some of its done...

STILL TO DO: Base my entire army, and paint whats left (last picture.

POINTS: Around 2400

Plans forward: Finish whats in my last pic, and base the models.

Almost done with my entire army. (Theoretically Im done, as Ive painted over 2000 pts, but Ill continue as long as I have models to paint)
BTW, 2 units of spider riders and 4 Leadbelchers are not included in the pics.

What I've painted so far in the Tale:
3 fanatics, 2 spear chuckas, 2 snot swarms, Wolf chariot, 9 characters, 15 squigs, 18 savage boyz, 25 Black orcs, a total of 50 boyz, 5 savage boar boyz, 4 leadbelchers, and 2 units of 7 spider riders. So the grand total: 1746 points in units, and a minimum of 631 points in characters - pretend all are heroes. In addition comes equipment, command groups, magic items, wizard levels etc.. 2377 points in total without any upgrades.

UNIT: 10 Wardancers incl. Champion & Musician

STILL TO DO: Varnishing.

HIGHS: These were a breeze compared to that darn dragon.

...LOWS: I did a lot of sitting on my behind and doing nothing this month. This resulted in me not posting a list of comments in last months thread, which I'd like to apologize for, and not being as far along with my painting as I'd wanted.

The Raven Host

Units: Chaos Sorcerer Lord of tzeentch

Backround/Theme: The chaos warriors from the game Warhammer Online: Age of Reckonning.

Build and conversion: The basic model I used for this conversion was Ahriman fromthe 40k range. I cut the gun away and replaced it with a sword from the chaos knights. I also had to shave away the part were the back pach was. I then GS'd a Hamunculas on his back. The disc is made from the base that came with Ahriman model. I added a lot of GS to it and plasticard for the stuff sticking out from the disc.

Painting: Same as others.

Basing: Same as the others.

Still to do: Not a thing.

Highs:Finishing this guy and passing all my classes.
Lows: I used a **** load of GS on this thing.

Well... been a busy month, with an important exam. That's done now, just hoping I got a good enough grade...
Sadly, not much painting time. Only got 4 boyz done. But with the spare points from last month, that's fine.
And not to forget, I've been working on my wolves (they've already got some greenstuff now!), spiders and goblins. Just nothing finished...

@ Harry: I played a joker in month 5, so this bit and the extra points of month 6 should be fine for now. I'm actually still 68 points ahead of my schedule :)
Note me down for 6x painted, 1x joker.

TOMB KINGS

POINTS THIS MONTH: 200

POINTS TOTAL:1535

THIS MONTH'S PAINTING;

20 skeleton warriors

BACKGROUND; The skeleton warriors represent the vast hordes of mercenaries that flocked to Thumu Ra's palace, seeing it as a reward for a lifetime scrounging an existence in the deserts of Nehekara. To discover the fortified city itself was quite a feat, concealed as it was by mountains and the lush forests that grew around the inner sea. Service under Thumu Ra's rule was resolved in much bloodshed, conquering the tribes and monsters lurking armound the inner sea, buyt with each successful campaign came wealth beyond imagining, as the Sun King would impart part of his great wealth upon his loyal subjects.
At the time of Nagash's invasion, almost noone fought with as much determination as these warriors, who saw Nagash as an affront both to their sun god Ptra as well as their idyllic new home land. Although ordered to retreat, they only relinquished their position with bitter curses on their lips, obliterating any undead minions that dared approach to close during their flight.

In death, the warriors of Thumu Ra harbour only bitter resentment for the heirs of Nagash. On their long march back to the inner sea, they were unprepared for the wasteland that awaited them. Although few records exist of the occassion, it is said that upon returning to is desolation so great was their grief and anger that the undying soldiers let out a shriek of immortal rage. So deafening was the noise that the new greenskinned occupants of Thumu Ra's palace fled rather than face this supernatural enemy.

Restless in death, the warriors of Ptra do not lay dormant in eternal sleep, instead scouring the plains of the sour sea, ever vigilant, ever ready to reap justice against the great necromancer

BUILDING/CONVERSION; nothing special, just used a charioteer body to make the champion stand out. It’s probably worth noting that I modeled my skeletons with spears even though in games they will use hand weapons and shields only. I just think the spears look cooler.

PAINTING/BASING; Same as always, although I found this month that a light wash of devlan mud on recessed areas like the ribs and skulls before the full model gryphonne sepia wash helps to make the individual bones stand out more. It is a process I will continue with for the rest of the tale.
To avoid confusion, my decision to paint the warriors shields a colour other than purple was to distinguish their lower position in the army. That’s why there are only hints of purple as opposed to the tomb guard and charioteers.

HIGHS; With this month’s work completed I can field a 2000 point fully painted army, so that was very exciting.

LOWS; got another 20 warriors to paint next month…lame

STILL TO DO; Nothing for these guys, I managed to properly base my miniatures for once!

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g124/toBIASFTY/IMG_0997.jpg

And since I won’t be posting it as an entry for the tale, here is a casket of souls I painted a few years ago;

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g124/toBIASFTY/IMG_0998.jpg

And to answer some questions I didn’t get around to last month, being the lazy soul that I am;

Interesting colour scheme, and a proper paintjob as well. I'd be interested in your recipe for the metals, aspecially that one sword on the top guy looks interesting.

Thanks Darnok, for the bronze swords and such I start with tin bits first, then paint dwarf bronze over the top followed by a devlan mud wash. For characters I then dry brush the blade with shining gold and for the blade edge I use a 2:1 mix of shining gold and mithril silver. As a final stage I wash the lower part of the blade with chestnut ink. It sounds more complicated than it really is, those steps don’t take long at all to complete.

Nice stuff. How did you a) paint the purple and b) paint the bandages on Khalida? (can never find a way I like painting these)

Thanks for the nice words Doi, love your giant BTW. There are two recipes I have for purple at the moment. My earlier one that I used for the prince models is fairly straight forward, just liche purple, then warlock purple, then watered down tentacle pink. The purple I used for khalida is liche purple for a base colour, followed by a 2:1 mix of liche purple and bleached bone drybrushed over the top, followed by a 1:1 mix of liche purple and bleached bone drybrushed over that.
The bandages were fairly easy too. I started with graveyard earth as a base, then picked out the individual bandages with bleached bone, and highlighted some raised areas with skull white before washing the area with gryphonne sepia.

Ass-shot? Well… nonetheless those are some great models!

Don’t pretend you don’t love tomb king booty…

Respect to anyone who can stand painting undead in any great number. Is Khalida actually wearing high heels or are my eyes deceiving me?
Haha, thanks Avian. I didn’t think painting a hundred odd skeletons would be a problem, but I have to admit the monotony is starting to drive me crazy. And much to my surprise Khalida is in fact wearing high heels. She towers over most of my other models, even my dark elves!

So thanks to everyone that said lovely things about mine and other armies, I'll see you all next month for more skeleton warriors.

Crappy picture of the army so far:
http://i350.photobucket.com/albums/q438/tarjeiaasen/Warriors%20of%20Chaos/P3020204.jpg

Background: It has been a busy month for my general, Barack the Bringer of Change. He has revealed his ambitious plans to reform the army, which the previous general, George the Lesser, had made a dedicated effort to wreck. One of his proposals was that the heroes and sorcerers would help pay to equip the Marauder infantry with proper weaponry. Naturally this caused some indignant protests from the Slaaneshi characters, who had been busy grubbing together what riches they could grab during George's reign. "Why can't the poor just hit the enemy with blunt sticks?" they cried. "Why should we pay to equip them with great weapons and flails? Besides, Slaanesh doesn't mind his followers getting a thrashing." When they heard about the proposal that they would also help fund a corps of battlefield surgeons who'd stitch together those not lucky enough to be granted Chaos Armour, they became even more indignant and started a PR campaign to convince the arrow fodder that it was against tha Slaaneshi Way that they should have any reasonable chance to survive a battle. Stay tuned next month to find out if they were successful.

And then there are the Knights of Inconsistence. Despite it being generally reckoned that Chaos Knights were essential in a Chaos army, the Reapublican army had long been against them, arguing that knights were too expensive and that it was better to send heaps of under-equipped Marauder foot troops at the enemy - eventually the laws of chance should favour them and they would win a great victory. For the last half-dozen years, however, their enemies had only gained in strength while the Reapublicans had only really managed to get their own guys killed.
Barack the Bringer of Change was by no means rich, but he managed to muster a force of Knights by very unusual methods. Instead of relying on a few very rich warriors who could manage to pay for the horse and weaponry of a Knight of Chaos, Barack asked his supporters to only pay very small amounts each, enough to pay for a knight's pauldron, or a greave, or even just a stirrup. This ingenious plan let him get together a very powerful unit of Knights in a very short amount of time, without having to suck up to the lords of Slaanesh like George did.

Modeling: Standard models, with some High Elf bitz here and there on the champion and standard, while the musician has some bitz from the Warrior kit (I wanted a horn blower without a helmet, so he wouldn't look so ridiculous). Flames on the standard (to make it fit the description in the magic items section) were made more or less after a tutorial I found on TWF.

Painting: The yellow was a paint, being built up in 5 layers from Flat Brown, through Yellow Ochre to Flat Yellow. Broze is Tin Bitz mixed with a little black, then highlighted with Tin Bitz by itself. Other parts are painted in my usual mixes of browns and greys.

Highs this month: Finally getting decent green stuff flames after a couple of failed attempts.

And lows: Most of the actual painting! Five guys with hero-level detailing almost drove me crazy. Especially the yellow!

Yet to do: I'm not happy with the symbol on the banner and may go back and redo that. I might also put in a bit more work on the weapons to make them look more magical.

Next month: I'm making an effort to get all 20 Marauder infantry done. We shall see how that goes, but it should be possible to get 3 colours on each at least.

Army: Dwarfs

Unit:Thane BSB
90 pts

Unit: 10 Quarrellers, st,mu,ch
145 pts

BUILD/CONVERSION:
The quarrellers are pritty well out of the box with a few weapon swaps. The BSB has been completely been remodled. I started off with a Quarreller and bits from the standard sprew and lots of green stuff.

PAINTING:
I wanted the quarrellers to have a experanced look with these guys, unlike the young beards from the thunderer unit. As for the BSB I was going for a more royal look, this was also my first attempt at painting NMM brass.

BASING:
Pritty stright forward sand with patches of grass. Ask if interested in details.

HIGHS:
I really enjoyed building these guys. I really got a chance to get creative with the BSB and I love the varity of poses possable with the quarrellers, espically compared to the BFSP dwarfs.

LOWS:
Over all this was a good month how ever it really annoys me when im working with GS and i have to stop to wait for it to harden to continue.( Dam finger prints)

First of all, thank you so much for all your appreciative comments from last month! I'm so bussy and trying to keep my head into warhammer and out of the water (I'm in the US right now studying marine bio) is turning out to be quite hard. Unfortunately this month I will not be able to present a fully painted unit, or even model. But I instead bring you my two main projects that I'm working on. Hopefully I'll be able to make something out of them before I leave here and go home, but I'm not entirely shure. Both of these units adds upp to about 600 when I'm done with them and soo will hopefully count towards something during the comming months. If that is not enough, I got some other stuff to handle as well, these can be seen in the end of the post. I believe sallies and croxies are on the way too...

Second - that list with names and jokers and points looks sort of wierd on my posts. I have posted a minimum of 200 points each month (although I have not presented any numbers due to lack of armybook untill now) and I have so far used no jokers. I understand that my lack of typing numbers and figures have affected this. But it would be great to be shown on 7 full now, with this post.

THIS MONTHS PAINTING:
Not much, mostly spraying and some washing.

CHARACTER/UNIT:
2 Units of 24 strong spear saurus with full command.

BUILD/CONVERSION: Oh yes! If you want more detailed pics of the conversions, please ask! Most of them are greenstuffed and cut to pieces (at least in the unit shown as blue). The other ones have simple gotten the other units shoulder pads and now look badass and bulky.

PAINTING:
White spray, asurmen blue wash with some tint of hawks torqoise on the back.

BASING:
Not much, cut up the bases and made glue-water as shown in earlier posts and greenstuffed the other one to resemble a dino skeleton. Will show more when painted.

STILL TO DO:
A lot! But as most of the painting is washing and dipping, it might actually take shorter time than anticipated.

HIGHS AND LOWS:
Conversion is fun! But when the ranked up unit without the massive conversions turned out so nice, it was kinda sad to see the other unit... I like stuff from the box too. I will try to do more stuff from the box I think...

POINTS:
About 600 when done. I will later post an armylist in this post to try and figure out where I'm aming with all those lizzies.

PLAN FOR NEXT MONTH: Go to New York for spring break, club-dance my ass off, go iceskate-dating in central park and buy kroxies wehew!

Done. Apologies. Just me struggling to keep track of whats going on.
Please see other thread where Braads records identified you for special mention.

I had to laugh at your plans for next month. Top quality plans. :D

This months post is fine.
it is just the same as someone painting a greater deamon or expensive character over a couple of months. You are half way through a big unit.
No one expects you to paint the first ten and then another ten. 50% of 20 one month and 50% the next month give shte same result ... it is just harder for me to keep track of.

PS What IS your total points so far???? :D

DWARFS

THIS MONTHS PAINTING:

UNIT: Flame cannon and 5 thunderers

POINTS: 210 (1469 points total)

BUILD/CONVERSION: Nothing

PAINTING: Various shades of brown, off-white and orange.

BASING: Sand washed with the old GW brown ink. Highlighted from Graveyard earth and bleached bone to pure Bleached bone. Fianlly I added some static grass patches.

STILL TO DO: Nothing.

HIGHS AND LOWS: The thunderers and the crew are the most fun I’ve painted in years. There are loads of details on the thunderers and the minis are excellent. Now I only have 13 more to do…

Looks like a good month for Dwarves! I think this is also only the second time I've managed o e my painting up within the first week! My school planning probably suffered a bit, but I've got through the first 3 days of my placement unscathed and keeping up with the paperwork as well. I want to say well done for all those who've been organised to keep up with everything and who haven' used a joker ye, very impressive stuff. I'm chuffed to bits that I found a sneaky bit of time to paint again, and although he majority of he army is sill only a a basecoat stage (he army is suffering from blackbeard syndrome a bit), it's starting to take shape like so many of the other armies on this tale and the previous version! I have posted an example of the eventual standard I'm aiming for, but really need to take photos a a more sensible hour!

THIS MONTHS PAINTING:

CHARACTER/UNIT:
10 Thunderers, 2 miners (including a champion), and somewhere between 12 and 15 warriors.

BUILD/CONVERSION:
The models already came assembled as an ebay purchase, so haven't been changed apart from being rebased.

PAINTING:
Warriors are in line with the previous batch, please let me know if you want more info.
BASING:
Again, same as in other months. I'm hoping to et a test snow base done at some point over the next month, so you might see a change in bases in April.

STILL TO DO:
Fix some models (some sill without arms/hands/shields), and tidy up current basecoats. If I find the time, I'll start improving the look of the units already started.

HIGHS AND LOWS
Highs- makin sure and steady progress! I didn't think I'd be able to keep up wih the tale, but this month has got me back into the spirit of it. I also think he scheme is beginning to tie units together, particularly the 'finished'(ie, with beards!) models. Also realising I'm only about one month behind now!!!!!
Lows- not getting everything beyond a minimum for the tale, and not taking good photos!
Oh,and typing this with my broken laptop keyboard, where the t and g buttons don't work, takes forever to type anything!
POINTS:
Thunderers 145, warriors ??, Miners 32.

Total for the army : 1138

PLAN FOR NEXT MONTH:
Not sure yet, but I think I'll round out the miners a bit more (up to 15/20) and the other warrior unit. I've also started work on a new slayer, as can be found in my new blog.

HIGHS AND LOWS:

The two warriors arms are fromthe plastic marauders with the fail tops removed. Death rocket mix of BFSP cannon, Grudge pony cart, Plasticard, and a standard from the chaos marauders. The rocket is from the 40k storm boyz or something like that.

All Mounted Goblins (and two giants)

Units: 3 Wolfriders and a Goblin Big Boss on wolf

Backround/Theme: Still working on this one

Build/Conversions: A couple of goblin chariot crewmen made it as wolfriders. The Big Boss is converted from the goblin box and a skaven torso, an Ork boy axe and a nail (axe shaft)

Painting: Same as others.

Basing: Same as others.

Highs: Geting something done

Magos Explorator's High Elves of Nagarythe
(~1,000 points: 5 months painting, 2 Jokers)

I had planned for this month of the Tale to paint a battle standard bearer and another archer regiment. However, only the character got finished:

http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh255/andy_sayer/high_elf_battle_standard_bearer.jpg

http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh255/andy_sayer/high_elf_battle_standard_bearer_bac.jpg

The model is a 1990s High Elf musician with his right hand removed and replaced with the new plastic banner pole from the High Elf Prince box set. The paint-scheme is the same as before (and the lighting in my room perhaps gives the banner more highlights than are really there), although I tried to work in a little more blue.

This guy is finished and was fun to build and paint, although the join on the swapped hand is a little weak.

For next month I want to finish off at least this unit of Archers, if I can! Still this guy approaches 200 points so I have about 1000 done now.

Army- VC- The Dead Of Winter

Unit- Winter Wraiths and Banshee- 225pts

Total Painted- 2 jokers 990 points.

Background- The winter wraiths are cold spirits emerging from chill winter winds, the cold howl of the banshee freezing mens hearts in the bitter bite of the unnatural blizzard..

Painting- stupidly simple- white uncoat- heavy layered blue wash- drybrushed up from space wolf blue to white.

Highs- Still in the Tale!
Lows- perhaps too simple a scheme- felt they deserved more but haven't had the time/focus/energy at the moment.

Jimjim: Someone slow that man down! That’s an impressive amount of stuff you’ve painted up there. Looking forward to seeing how it all looks once based up. If you’ve not already done so you might like to consider making a PLog if you are flying through this much work.

Ego Ninja: Lovely models and lovely paint job. You’ve captured that nice Chaos look with all the browns and dull metals. I know exactly what you mean about the banners. I can never think of anything suitable for my units either.

EmpororNorton: Very nice. Those bases really look good with some of the crazy poses on those models. I like how you kept all the colours quite neutral – it makes the green stand out. These guys (and gals!) clearly belong in the trees.

Dino: I already commented on this beautiful model in your PLog. Excellent greenstuffing and conversion work, as is standard with all of your stuff I’ve seen. I look forward to seeing your next lot of goodies!

Braad: Or should I call you Mr Spreadsheet :D Those Orcs are coming along nicely. Looking forward to seeing how the gobos come out in the next few months!

StormCrow: That one very impressive looking army you have there. I love how you give less colour to the lower ranked units. The weathered shields look really good and give the unit that “battle hardened” look. Like it!!!

Bluesabre: Fantastic work. Those corsairs are very nice, particularly the freehand on the banner. All of that gold in your army shot looks brilliant, although I’m a bit worried about the 4-wide ranks! Love the colour scheme on those Harpies too – you’ve make them look very nice, which is a massive achievement considering how awful those sculpts are!

Avian: What a stunning paint scheme. Your work continues to amaze me – very crisp and clean with huge attention to detail. I tip my hat to you sir. I’d really like to see a closeup of the banner. The flames and freehand look incredible.

Kraal_Lord_Of_Blood: It’s a shame to see you drop out at this late stage. I hope you get some motivation back soon.

Digital_Punk: Those Dwarves are coming along nicely. That beautiful banner has almost overshadowed the gyrocopter as the centre piece – I’m not sure if this is a good or bad thing! Your army looks great, although a little inconsistent with the different bases across the units. Was this your intention?

Leonathion: Looking forward to seeing how these guys turn out. That’s quite a quick and effective paint scheme you have there. And I have to agree with the new book- I’ve had some very fun games with my Lizards lately.

Saltpappa: Bloody brilliant! You have captured the Dwarven look perfectly. I really can’t fault your work at all, it’s amazing.

Sparks: Good to see you are back and full of energy. Long may it continue! I am keen to see how your snow bases come out. They should brighten things up a bit and make the models stand out nicely. What is the plan for the banner? Do you have something in mind?

Chicken Pig: More great work, as we have some to expect. I really like the Cold Ones, they certainly look like fear causers! I wish your wife luck with the job hunting – it’s tough out there at the moment but you’ll be back on track in no time.

Dino: The bad boys are back! More fantastic greenstuff work. Something creepy is going on with your camera – what’s with all the blue in the army shot. They look very black in the other photos!

Doi: More characterful stuff from you this month – I love it! Is that some Dark Elf bits on that banner I see? It would be good to get a side-on shot of this guy. Two-up goblins on a single wolf is classic!

Magos Explorator: Incredible work on the banner. You won’t be able to hide this guy in the army!!! Looking forward to seeing the archers and a nice army shot.

Silverstu: Simple but effective. What goodies do you have in store for us next month?

@ derv – Looking great! Would maybe look even greater with a scenic base though…

@ Jimjim – Is there no end to your tide of green?
That’s a good thing ofcourse… keep ‘m coming!

@ Egoninja – Good icons? Dunno… But I’ll give it a thought. Still an excellent bunch of knights!

@ EmperorNorton – Looks very nice! The green loincloths give a very nice contrast to the rest of the model.

@ Dino – Excellent conversion! I love it. Nice how you embedded the Tzeentch icon into the shape of the disc, and the ‘thingy’ on his back looks very sweet :D

@ Braad – Looks terr… o wait… that’s me…

@ Stormcrow – Nice bunch of skellies! Sweet. And the armyshot is starting to look quite impressive with all those chariots around.

@ Bluesabre – They look terrific! Nice paintjob. The corsairs are the old ones, but Lokhir is a new model, right? They seem to fit in perfectly with each other still.

@ Avian – I got to say, the paint scheme you’ve chosen is very daring, but it turned out great! Also you’re flaming banner sculpting worked out very well.

@ Kraal – NOOOOO!!!! You come back here, right now!

@ Digital~Punk – Well, you’ve done a fine job on the BSB. Great work!
The only thing I’m a bit uncertain about is the beard of the middle guy in your quarrelers unit. It seems to be dirty, due to the brown and white…

@ Leonathion – Sad? You mean the way the one unit looks a bit more disorganized then the other? Personally I think radical reposes work best on those armies where you more or less expect them, not on the more elite troops of armies like HE, Empire or, like these, lizardmen. But still, they look fine, so I wouldn’t worry too much about it.
Looking forward to seeing the whole bunch painted up!

@ saltpappa – Love them! The dwarf with the pipe is my favourite :D He reminds me of a Russion or something….

@ sparks – Well, I think they already look very decent, even though they are not painted to the final standard yet. So that means its only gonna get better, especially when I see the completely finished warrior.
Keep up the hard work!

@ chicken pig – Very nice! Maybe we can still get a pic of the cold ones taken from the side, that we can have a better look at those?

@ Dino – I gotta say, like with the others who do this, I impressed to see how you manage to paint up to armies at the same time, and to such a standard. Great work!
The conversion work is great, I can tell you that.
Did we already mention making the bases in each unit in such a way that the patterns connect?

@ Doi – Nice conversions! One thing about the side shot of the wolf: I found it looks a lot better if you fill the gap and sculpt some fur. Maybe a nice idea for future models?

@ Magos Explorator – Haha, nice. That’s a banner and musician in one. Since he’s a character, you can consider him a champion too :D Great conversion for sure, looks very dynamic.

@ Silverstu – That’s very… euhm, white… But they look fine, especially when put next to the rest of the army. The winter theme really ties the whole lot very nicely.

That's it already... Not much for the first week this month. But still several weeks to go, so keep painting, ye all!

@ derv
Mr Spreadsheet? Hmm, it doesn't sound like a very heroic title...
You can call me Mr Master. I just finished my MSc study at university :p
In case you haven't noticed, I've done a lot of data analysis for that. Its a shame I don't have the right programs at hand, otherwise I could start doing statistical analyses on those painting data...

@ jimjim – that army is looking damn impressive & a decent amount of painting done this month

@ ego ninja – very nice knights

@ EmporerNorton – they do indeed enjoy bouncing off trees, glad to hear that you had an easier time of it this month

@ Dino – that sorcerer is excellent, really nice converting & very good painting yet again

@ Braad – good luck with your exam results dude, look forward to seeing some more miniatures from you next month (says me who hasn’t put a paintbrush to any of my fantasy models yet!)

@ Stormcrow – very nice skellies, thanks for the recipe for the bandages too, I’ll be using that!

@ Bluesabre – impressive amount of painting & a very high standard again. I guess you’ve had those Corsairs a while too which is why you haven’t used the new ones :p

@ Avian – very nice looking knights, that bold yellow scheme look is very impressive

@ Digital~Punk – cool looking Dwarfs again

@ Leonathion – shame that we don’t get to see any fully painted stuff from you but looking forward to next month for sure. I’m sooo jealous of your degree!!! I’ve just booked to go diving in Egypt & I can’t wait. The new LM book is good but you have never read a book with so many typo’s!!

@ saltpappa – gorgeous stuff again & glad you’ve enjoyed the experience as I’m looking forward to seeing more from you

@ sparks – very nice Dwarfs (the quality of Dwarfs in this thread is amazing, there’s some sort of stunty conspiracy going on here I’m sure of it!!)

@ chicken pig – excellent stuff again, nice conversion too. Any chance of an army shot? You’ve certainly got an impressive amount of models done already

@ Dino – good to see the CD’s back & some lovely stuff again, the army is coming together very nicely & looking very good

Well, actually, I made it! So no more studying for me, and of to find some work. Put first: Goblins! I got 4 done, and the standard bearer just needs the bannertop done. Also started on the goblin for the single spider I got, and already did the wooden parts of my goblin chariot.
I'm not planning much to do today, except for an hour or 2 jobsearching, and plenty of painting!

Doi: More characterful stuff from you this month – I love it! Is that some Dark Elf bits on that banner I see? It would be good to get a side-on shot of this guy. Two-up goblins on a single wolf is classic!

The banner is actually made from HE bits (as I thought the gems on the bottom conveyed a better sense of movement). Since you're so intrigued with the banner bearer I'll point you in the direction of the rest of my army as doubled up goblins on a wolf is quite common. And you're not getting a side shot until I finish the banner!

@ Doi – Nice conversions! One thing about the side shot of the wolf: I found it looks a lot better if you fill the gap and sculpt some fur. Maybe a nice idea for future models?

That was something I had planned to do from the beginning, but I got sick of it after a handful of wolves (or just plain lazy ). Did plan on doing it for characters though but I forgot on this guy.

@ Doi - excellent stuff again, it seems we’ve upset you though judging by the brackets after ‘All Mounted Goblins’!!

Upset? Me? No, it has been there for a couple of months now in an attempt to keep the TOFP threads on track by stopping the discussion over wether my army is all mounted or not. Though as you and I got involved in that debate again in the month just past you can see it hasn't worked :p

@ derv: An excellent Cauldron. How did you paint the purple robes? Would have asked for the gold too but you answered that one already

@ Jimjim: Wow that is a lot of O&G painted up, great job. How did you paint your green skin and the blue skin on the squigs?

@ Ego Ninja: Great stuff. Not sure as to what to do for the banner though. Only thing that comes to mind is just a symbol of tzeentch

@ EmperorNorton (WE): Now if you had painted that dragon first up the rest of the TOFP could have been a breeze! The bases really suit the wardancers (paticularily the one standing/leaning on the big log)

@ Dino (WoC): Fantastic. The Disc is just pure inspiration. How difficult was it to GS all of it?

@ Braad: Well that's a change. 400pts last month and 4 guys this month. But having just got your Masters of Science I'll let you of the hook :p. I've just started a Bachelor of Science myself. What field have you specialised in?

@ StormCrow: Great skeletons. Thanks for the paint schemes too, much appreciated.

@ Bluesabre: Very nice. I hadn't realised you'd painted so much already. Lokir looks especially well done.

@ Avian: Well your opponent surely wont miss that unit on the table! The GS flames you did on the banner turned out fantastic, provides some nice contrast to the yellow

@ Digital~Punk: Nice job. I really like the Thane BSB

@ Leonathion: Hhhmm, I'm not sure wether I prefer the ragtag or unifrom saurus more. I look forward to seeing them painted.

@ saltpappa: Very nice. How do you paint your skin?

@ sparks: Where are all of these dwarven armies coming from? I don't even remember there being this many in the TOFP :p. Great work, any plans for teh banner on the warrior unit?

@ Chicken Pig: Nice work. Sorry to hear about your troubles, hopefully you can find a way to continue on.

@ Dino (CD): Great stuff once again. I like the addition of the CSM helemts.

@ Magod Explorator: Wow, that banner is excellent. Too bad you've got a weedy Asurian carrying it :p

@ silverstu: Nice job. Nice not havng to paint something worth so little points like the zombies? I can't help but laugh at the wraith working out on the left though :p!

OK sorry guys but it looks like I will have to use my second Joker here.

I was soooo close to finishing this month but I would rather just get them done and add them to next month's entry.

So expect a super large one (points wise) from me next month as it will be me buying back both my jokers!

Sorry, I have to spend my second joker.
I couldn't stop adding models to my todo list and now have a lot primed and half painted.
With just adding some more infantry and an army standard bearer I will hit the 500 points mark.
So, once I got them finished for next month I will have enough excess points to get both jokers back.
Well, lets see if it works out:D

@ derv: Thank you very much. I think a little extra attention to detail in a few key places goes a long way. Here is a close up of the banner. The freehand is really nothing special and I'm only moderately less unhappy with it now I've done some touch-ups.
http://i350.photobucket.com/albums/q438/tarjeiaasen/Warriors%20of%20Chaos/P3070211.jpg

@ Braad: Thanks. The GS flames did in fact turn out quite well. When I get my talons on the plastic daemon prince I'll have a go at making some more. :)

@ Jonahmaul: Thanks, the yellow was a huge pain, so I'm glad it turned out okay.

@ Doi: Thanks, I keep resisting the urge to bring in more colours and so far I think it's working quite well. Blue and yellow it is.

Comments on other people's work

Page 1:

derv: That army is starting to look mighty impressive. Have you considered adding this (http://www.crocodilegames.com/secure/items/Bubbles1-web.jpg) to the Cauldron?

Jimjim: Presumably you have some Oompah-Loompahs in the basement. How else could you have gotten an army with that many models done to that quality in such a short time! Very good work.

Ego Ninja: Almost the exact guys as I have (down to the problem with finding a symbol for the banner!). I suggest doing a large eye with tentacles or arrows growing for it, or just an icon of tzeentch. I see that your musician has no way of blowing his horn, though. ;)

EmperorNorton: Good work on the Wardancers. How do you get the miniature leaves to stick to the base properly? I have some here and there and they keep falling off.

Dino: Cool conversion. Gotta love that Ahriman model. A friend of mine did a similar conversion and the staff kept falling off, so I hope you have pinned yours. How did you do the feathers on the Disc? Shape some GS and then trace lines? I want to add something similar on the DP when I get one.

Braad: Hope to see more stuff next month.

StormCrow: I continue to be impressed with your undead. You mention that you have started using the sepia wash, how do you like that colour? Which things do you think it goes well with?

Bluesabre: Nice work on the Corsairs. Does Lokhir actually rank up with anything with his swords held like that?

Digital~Punk: Nice stunties. I have the exact same problems working with GS, and I'm slowly teaching myself to do it in portions and wait for each step to cure before continuing.

Leonathion: Looking forward to seeing that dino skeleton.

saltpappa: Seriously impressive Dwarfs there. Two thumbs up!

sparks: A little phot tip. Try placing a white screen in front of your lamps. I use a sheet of paper and that really makes the light less yellow.

Chicken Pig: Really sorry to hear about your wife. Hope things turn out well for you. I see you found a clever solution to the problem with the flying cape. :)

Dino: Good conversions. I would go crazy sculpting all those beards.

Page 2:

Doi: Nice use of the chariot crewmen.

Magos Explorator: Seamless conversion and nice pose. Hope you don't get any problems with the join.

silverstu: Some really funky faces on those old barrow wights :D

BACKGROUND/THEME:
Sort of a lord being turned and his loyal retainers have risen from the grave to serve him in all eternity.
Either that or he just leads a load of dead people...

BUILD/CONVERSION:
Straight out of the box (or blister in this case).

PAINTING:
I use the Wargames Foundry Paint System so my colours will be a little different to the GW names.

BASING:
Using a mixture of bases from Back-2-Base-IX (dirt) and Foundations of War (battle debris). Undercoated black, drybrushed with all three drab colours, with the stones picked out with all three granite colours. Varnished (dullcote) and static grass added. Drilled, Pinned, Glued & Magnetised!
Have used cotton wool on the ethereal models to try for that "ghostly" effect.

STILL TO DO:
Banner on the skellies & grave guard. Give some attention to the "statueness" of the wraiths.

HIGHS:
Found some cheap zombies on ebay!

LOWS:
None really, other than the length of time to complete the zombies.
Only another zombie unit to go (damn ebay & silly prices...)

NEXT MONTH:
Am going to complete another unit of skeleton warriors (yep, ebay again) and am close to finishing the first Blood Knight. Also the Necromancer is close to completion so he might make an appearance as well. Am working to a big finish!

Think that the entries so far are brilliant! Will do more detailed comments later.

Enjoy!

You must love the colour green. Look at little green beasties and work and paint little green beasties at home :p. I'm heading towards a zoology major myself. Too bad I can't really specialise my subjects until second year, I'm stuck doing general chemistry and biology for now :(.

@ Avian: Wow, the flames look even better up close. How did you paint the yellow? I'm expecting your favourite Burnt Umber to make an appearence somewhere.

Silverstu: Simple but effective. What goodies do you have in store for us next month?

Hmm- yeah felt like a bit of a cop out doing something so simple- next month will either be a vamp and some zombies or the graveguard- I'm pretty pushed this month but you never know..

@ Silverstu – That’s very… euhm, white… But they look fine, especially when put next to the rest of the army. The winter theme really ties the whole lot very nicely.

.

Yep- dead simple! Perhaps too simple- maybe redo them at some point- but at least they fit with the rest of them.

@silverstu: Are those the old Lord of the Rings Barrow Wraiths? They look lovely.

/Fredmans

Yep- they are the old ringwraiths- "85 vintage I think..

[B]

@ silverstu - excellent stuff, the army is looking amazing

Thanks- just a case of staying in the tale this month..

@ silverstu: Nice job. Nice not havng to paint something worth so little points like the zombies? I can't help but laugh at the wraith working out on the left though :p!

Doi

Yeah- that wraith was a champion lifter in his past life! I actually loved doing the zombies- they were quite fun. These guys where just quickies to stay in the tale- work is hectic at the moment- once I get this month over things will be a lot easier and normal service will resume with a bit of luck..

silverstu: Some really funky faces on those old barrow wights :D

Yeah- thought it would be a shame not to use them though! Might do a unit of the current wraiths at some point- I think they are great too.

Apologies for being very slack- i'll try and get some comments up soon. This month I'll not be up to too much- I have a bunch of deadlines to get through. But April I will be back in full painting/chatting form.

Suavelydunn, you're going to have to do more to show the barding on those black knights and wight king, and you'll need to add even mroe to the wight king so that he stands out. (As it is right now I'm not sure is it's the old school guy or the one with the big helmet...)

@ Avian: Wow, the flames look even better up close. How did you paint the yellow? I'm expecting your favourite Burnt Umber to make an appearence somewhere.
Burnt Umber probably wouldn't work very well since it has very little yellow in it. I always start with a brown with a decent amount of yellow if I'm going for a yellow finish (similarly I start with a brown with a decent amount of red if I'm painting red). The gradually I add in increasing amounts of some sort of yellow - the banner used a colour called Goldbrown, whereas the armour plating used Yellow Ochre, which is a harder colour (less red in it), making it more suitable for armour.
After the final layer of Goldbrown alone I then added in a little Flat Yellow for the final highlights.

Large, smooth areas can be quite tricky to highlight in a convincing manner, and you can quickly end up with too sharp transitions if one layer covers too much of the previous, which also leaves areas which should have highlights without them. It can be very tempting to do this if the colours in the different layers aren't close enough to each other, since you can shove all the "jumps" in colour (where one colour isn't really close enough to the previous) over to the marked creases where they are less noticeable.

I'm trying to get away from that and instead let the "jump" be where it is in plain view and then later go back with a "half-step" colour and try to smoothe out the transition. I'm not really used to these large, open areas as my other armies have much more texture to them and thus you can use washes and drybrushing much more than here.

Hi Malorian, I know what you mean over the barding, but the proper Black Knight models have no barding on them either. I am afraid that I am not a sculptor so cannot envisage putting barding on them. In the group that I play in we are not fussed over WYSIWYG so it doesn't matter too much. I agree over the wight king, but until I drag myself to buy the proper one then the old school one will take his place! In the long term, he will be demoted to Hell Knight.
Thank you for taking the time to comment, it is appreciated.

@ SuavellyDunn - gorgeous stuff again. I know you say you use Wargames Foundry system but can you give is some more details on the paints & washes you use as you're getting very impressive results yet still get lots painted each month

Thanks for the comments and here goes.

Zombies are as follows;
White undercoat
Drab 12 ABC & Rawhide 11 AC - clothes
Spearshaft 13 B - wood effects
Flesh 5 BC - flesh, surprisingly!
Dusky Flesh 6 A - boots
Metal 35 B - all metal areas
GW Bleached Bone - revealed bone, teeth
Nipple Pink 16 A - tongue
Bright Red 15 A - exposed guts & stuff
After that, the whole model was painted with army painter, which provides a lot of the shading effects and also hides any defects!

Black Knights;
Skeleton Bone spray
Black 34 A - lance shaft
Metal 35 B - armour & all other metal areas
Gold 36 B - ornate parts of armour
Spearshaft 13 B - wood effects on shield
Bright Red 16 A - red cloth & lacquer on shields
As above, the whole model was painted with army painter - strong tone.

The bases are a mixture of foundations of war and back-2-baseix. Black undercoat with drybrush of Drab 12 ABC (earth) and Granite 31 ABC (rocks). GW scorched static grass on the base.

Matt varnish over the whole model.

Phew!

Still to do : paint the bases(I'll do that at the end) apart from that pretty much done

Highs and Lows : just 12 more horses to do wahoo!! A big plus getting to paint some rackham stuff shame I had the shortest month to cram in a high model count well for me any way

It's not that many actually... 8 gobbo's, a spider rider and a gobbo big boss + 40 spare points from last month... But it will be more. At least 13 more gobbo's (3 halfway at the moment).

BTW, we still need 11 more painted entries to get to the expected value of painters this month!

@ Harry - I’m still here - I promise! I had painted 850 and used both Jokers at the end of January, but I’m posting 400 points this month to buy one back. So my painting record at the end of February will be 1270 points painted and 1 Joker played.

@ Everyone else - I’m sorry for my lack of input intot the Tale. Between weddings in Switzerland, decorating, work and all the other things, I have had hardly any time to paint or post. But I’m determined to finish this army (especially as we’re over the half way mark). To get back the second joker I used last month, I’m double posting roughly 400 points this month, but all of it is looking rough as I have only met the 3 colours + basing minimum.

THIS MONTHS PAINTING (PART 1):

UNIT/S: 2 x Great Cannon and crew

POINTS: 200

BACKGROUND/THEME:
Two cannons and crews. The plastic cannon crew has been painted with Hochland colours. The metal cannon and crew have been given a fancier scheme, as I wanted them to represent gunnery experts from Nuln - so the have black, red and cream clothing with some gold trim on the ‘engineer’.

BUILD/CONVERSION:
As they come in the box, a couple of headswaps is all.

PAINTING: Greens and reds to match the Hochland units. Metallics use Badab Black and Devlan Mud washes and a second highlight of metallics.

BASING: Same as usual.

STILL TO DO: Ugh - Real Life gets in the way again. Like my state troops in the next post, these guys are done to the minimum 3 colours and based.

HIGHS: Getting the metal cannon on eBay - I really like the pose and outfits on the old crew members.

LOWS: Not having enough time to paint anything but the minimum requirements.

BACKGROUND/THEME:
These will be ‘Gerhardt’s Greyfeathers’ when they are finished, the core units of professional soldiery that is Marshal Schoendorf’s household guard. And less excuses from me next month! I’m put to shame by everyone else still in the tale - the standard of the painting remains consistently high across the board and I’m the only one dragging my heels to get 200 points done.

Keep up the great work guys!

Well, paint is paint, so nicely done.
I note you down for a joker in the 4th month and a grand total of 6 months painted.

@Braad: I should be able to make a stronger showing this month, my giant is close to being done and if I have time I will paint up some Boyz to get back on track. Big assignments have been kicking my butt the last few months.

Great to see so many continually knocking out the 200 points required!

HOWEVER!

I for one am disgusted, disgusted I tell you, that Harry hasn't managed to keep up to speed with the (god knows how many) painters on this thread. Prince Sairion . . . 4 months painting . . . Ney lad! This be my 7th I say!

And here it is - or, rather, the whole army.

Unit: 10 white lions with command
Points: 180
Highs: Ending the ordeal of painting them.
Lows: How long have you got? The faces are all mashed up by the mould on one side, the poses are rubbish, I was just happy to get them to the 'from 2 feet away they don't look half bad' stage and move on.

Total army points: 7 months - 1429 (no magic items)

What's next?: A character. I have one in the army so far, I need another two imo.

Happy painting all!

first of all for the greenskins:)

@JimJim: the army starts to look really great, my favourites are the squiqs and the savages. Any chance I could get a close up from those?

@braad: the orcs look fine, did you consider to mix it with Ork weapons? Could add even more variation to the units.

@doi: the goblin with the great weapon looks great, I hope you don't use it as a GW

The rest:)

@ derv: nice dark elves you have there, the cauldron looks good.

@ egoninja: Nice looking chaos knights you have there.

@ EmperorNorton: Nice looking wood elves, it is an army I don't see to much around here anymore. I really like those bases.

@ Dino(chaos): I like that disk, but I think that the feathers could use one more highlight.

@ Stormcrow: Nice looking tombkings, may I ask you how you did the grass on the bases?

@ Bleu sabre: LOkhir looks really great, it is one of my favourite models from the new dark elves.

@ Avian: The chaos knights look great I really like the ochre? color on the knights.

@ Digital punk: That bsb has an awesome beard, my goblins would love to shave it off. But great army so far.

@ Leonathion: I really like that blue on the skinks.

@ saltpappa: Those dwarves are stunning sir. I really love that classic flame cannon.

@ sparks: wow even more dwarves, the look good but the pic's are a little dark.

@chicken pig: Those cold one knights look really nice.

@ dino(chaos dwarves): Good to see some evil stunties here. They look good, keep it up.

@ Magos Explorator: The bsb looks amazing, I hope he doesn't attract cannon balls.

@ Silverstu: I like the wraiths, the rest from the army looks also good.

@ SuavelyDunn: Nice looking black knights, good to see that someone use the original models for them.

@ firestorm Falcon: Original idea for wraiths.

@ nagged: Nice army you are collecting there.

@ GalenArtorius: I really love that classic empire cannon, it looks better then the plastic one in my oppinion.

@ Prince Sairion: Pretty big elf army you have standing there. I like the use of red on their robes. Much more original then blue.

@Joseph Vintila: Nice lion chariot, no pick up that paint brush.

11 savages full command and more snotlings

Good for 180pts, which brings me on 987 points. I'm getting behind:o, but I will try to catch up this month or next month. And next month I will include a group shot from the army sofar, cause the pumpwagons are in my local club.

Don't worry too much. I had you noted down for 0 jokers and 6 (now 7) full months of paint. I'll send my file to Harry at the end of the month so that he is up to date completely.

@ Joseph Vintila
Just making the painting effort and getting stuff done is more important then actually sticking to the rules. So no worries!

@ Warlord Ghazak
Well actually, my last bunch of orcs (10) are converted from the Ork plastic box, indeed for the sake of variety. They look great, but they won't feature in the tale (except for 1). But they'll pop up in my blog probably somewhere later this year.

Well, due to some hectic things at work, it will take me a few more days before I can post any work, but rest assured I am still not out yet (and may even have more time on my hands, unfortunately, to get things done).

However, I must comment on all the marvelous work I see, since I have failed to comment for a few months, and everyone is doing a great job (also, sorry for any and all spelling errors....I am finally using IE again and not Firefox).

First off, Team Green (minus Harry...those wolves will never get done :p).

Jimjim: Quite the horde you have going there. Right now you are a painting machine! I really like what you did with those Savage Orcs, as it gives them so much character. I never thought of doing Squigs in that color blue, but I have to say they look amazing, and I may just have to steal that idea. Don't stop, even if you above the points!

Braad: Yay, more Greenskin goodness! I am actually glad to see just a few models than the typical Orc unit, because it really gives us a chance to see the detail that much more (or I am just mentally lazy). I must say that your Orc boyz are looking quite great, and perhaps my favorite thing you have done thus far (which is saying something, because the rest is great as well!).

Doi: Hey, that Giant actually had a chariot, even though as a weapon, so I still think this counts as 'all-mounted' :D. Interesting conversion you did there. I have been hesitant about painting up my own wolves, but you really seem to be able to put a lot of variation out there to keep the units from looking monotonous. The chariot crewman with the sword is just great, especially with the expression on his face. Very well done.

Knighta: You know how long it took me to realize that was an AoW model!? Then I read your post after it finally clicked. However, I was only staring at the model that long and not reading because it looks ace! Very effective and muted tones, and it really just looks wonderful. The dark red really helps to give this model some extra character. Nice.

Warlord G.G.: The Savage Orcs look great, but I really want to see those snotlings close up, they look awesome from this pic! The mushroom really gives them a great feel, and is a nice eye-catching element to the unit. Really, really cool. Also, don't feel bad, I am more behind than you are!

And to the rest of the talented team:

Derv: It has been a treat to see this army expand, and you have quite the force there now! The Witch Elves are my favorite in this entry, and are very well done. The Cauldron itself is great, and I love that you went with a limited pallette while painting it. Especially since those Witch Elves will provide a nice contrast to the entire unit.

Ego Ninja: Those guys are ace! The shields really help give them individuality, and the use of different colors really help them to stand out. I think I like the one with the 'eyes' shield the best, but I am a sucker for purple on minis. Perhaps something crazy like that on the banner, and just make every banner in the army distinct?

Emperor Norton: I love those Wardancers! The bases really help give them character, and they work so well with their poses. Awesome, awesome job. As usual, the colors work really well together, so keep up the great work.

Dino: That is a great conversion. Great job on the GS creature on the back, very creative. Very dynamic with all of the added elements you have thrown in there, and the paint job does not disapoint at all!

Stormcrow: I agree, there is nothing cooler than Skeletons with spears. Perhaps because the hand weapons get lost on the model with all that bone. Really love the basing on the models, but I really, really love the color scheme you have for the army. Those shield are fantastic, and I may need a recipe for when I get off my bum and start working on my TKs.

Bluesabre: The freehand on that banner is both creative and well done. It is nice to see something other than the usual rune or such as the swords actually represent something about the unit. Good job! That is quite the army you have built up there, but I think out of this entry, the harpies are what I love the most.

Avian: The painting is ace as always, but I think the subtle use of the bitz are what help these guys stand out. I must say, I never, ever, would have thought to paint Chaos with yellow (or, well, any model for that matter), but you have convinced me with the use of your palette that this is a very effective color scheme. Great job, especially since you tuned in just a few months ago!

Kraal_lord_of_Blood: Hate to see you leave, as you army was coming together with some great conversions, but hopefully you will continue your log with some new Chaos goodness!

Digital~Punk: Those Quarrellers are great! I must say, you have more patience than I do, because I started a unit months ago and haven't touched it again. Something about those crossbows I could not stand. The beards look really good, but I perhaps the blonde beard could get a wash? At the moment, it just seems to have an extreme contrast, while the rest of the unit has just the right amount. Great job with the BSB. Conversions are my real love, and I have to say this one does not disappoint!

Leonathion: Can't wait to see the rest of the Lizzie goodness get painted. It looks like the WIP is going well, so I imagine they will look great once they are painted up.

Saltpappa: I must agree that some of the older Dwarfs have an insane amount of detail, and you have done a wonderful job bringing that out. The little spots on the cannon crew really help to show the level of attention you are giving these guys, and I must say they are hands down wonderful. Nay, perfect. Awesome, awesome job.

Sparks: That is a great idea to use the cannon/engineer bitz to make a champion for the thunderers. It really looks right at home. That army shot shows that you have quite the Dwarven throng on the way, and I have to say I really like the color scheme you have going on. The metal in particular is well done. Keep it up!

Chicken Pig: I really like the pose you achieved with that Dreadlord. At first I thought the legs were too far spread, but then it gives the impression that he is eager to take the fight to the enemy. The Corsairs look really, really good with your color scheme, and gives them a proper feel.

Dino: I can't comment about the rest of your entry because you included such an awesome Death Rocket, and that is all I can think about now. That is a very effective conversion, and I must say that I in fact like it more than the original (which is saying something!). Awesome entry this month, and keep it up.

Magos Explorator: Very creative use of the older model in the conversion. I never would have thought about anything like that, but I have to say it really works. The painting looks fantastic, even if 'false' highlights are added, I think there are still enough real highlights there to make this thing great. This will be a wonderful centerpiece, I think. Great job.

Silverstu: At first I thought this really was too 'simple' of a color scheme, and did not work that well, but I realized that is because this is the color most normally paint them, and I am used to you models using these colors when others don't. Did that make sense? Basically, they work really well once they are shown with your army, and as such they are yet another great entry from you. I really like seeing this army shape up, so please continue!

SuavelyDunn: A big entry this month. Those zombies are looking really great, and properly gross which is a good thing. Quite a few zombies you have churned out, it makes my 'orc horde' feel much less like a horde now :D. The Black Knights are looking nice as well, and your color scheme is really being established now with all the units you have churned out. Great job.

Firestorm Falcon: Love seeing this army expand considering the theme, and I have to say you have done an excellent job with the Pheonix Guard. The green weapons was the more effective choice, as the others (in last month's tale) just would make the models a little monotonous. Now they certainly pop out at you. When shown with the rest of you army, I have to say this was perhaps the only way these guys should have been painted, because they look great.

nagged: Very effective conversions, and I think the use of the goblin shields really help to give these guys some flavor. Those bases are simple awesome, and give them a mini-diaroma feel. The mounted yeomen look great as well, but those banners really make them stand out. Very well done.

GalenArtorious: You consider those to be 'minimum requirements'?! They look great now as they are, can't wait to see when you get the chance to flesh them out then! I love the older Cannon crew, and they look great with your color scheme. Must say, the greyfeathers are my favorite out of your entry, though. Those are ace, and will definitely 'look the business' when you are done with them (although, they kinda do already!).

Prince Sairion: Don't you have a log to update :p? From two feet away, those don't look that bad! Already, in all seriousness, these guys are looking great from what I can see, although that is to be expected. Love seeing the color scheme is still being implemented, which adds loads of character to your horde, I mean army. By the way, how big is your HE army now?

Joseph Vintila: Hope you get to stay in for the Tale, because that is a very creative use of the HE chariot there. I must say, I think it would look better if both crewmen were more 'chaos' than High Elf, but the paint scheme works really well to establish what it is. Personally, I think the Lions are the best part of the whole unit, as the purple and black just works so well with them.

Now, if I missed anyone, I apologize, I was logged out halfway through and my post-per-page is set higher than normal Warseer settings. Just yell at me so I know! Amazing work everyone, and hopefully I will be able to join the rest of you over the next few days.

On a side note:

Silverstu: Those Grave Guard are looking amazing. I can't believe they are WiP aside from the bases! Looking great, can't wait to see them when they are finished!

Sorry guys, looks like the Sigmarites are out.
I've been really busy lately. Works been busy, getting ready to move house, havent had much time in the evenings (Some nights, by the time I get home, I need to go to sleep already).
I tried a last ditch effort to get another 200 points painted, but in the end I couldn't manage to get them done.

So best wishes to everyone who's still in the Tale, hope you guys manage to pull through and make it. I'll also give a big thanks to anyone who commented on my work throughout the tale.

So for now, we shall part ways. But hopefully I'll be back come July again when the Tale restarts again.

okay guys comments for those of you on page 1

Derv; special punctual award going to you , always amongst the first to post , really neat and crisp painting and great job on the eyes something I really struggle with, an impressive army you have there.

Jimjim; loads of really nice detail in your force tying all your units together brilliantly, great skin tones, a really great army

Ego ninja; great unit of knights, I’m always worried by having too much metal but you’ve done a great job of shading yours and especially love the shield with the eyes

Emperor Norton; another top notch entry from you again and fantastic bases really making your models stand out

Dino : fantastic conversion and well worth the points and the effort congrats on the freehand on the bottom of the cape

Braad; your entry maybe small but perfectly executed especially the faces which look brilliant

Stormcrow; another great army and your skeletons really seem to have a dusty (as opposed to bleached) feel that really suits tomb kings and the purple kicks ass

Blue sabre; superb freehand on the banner and great tones on the armour and another fantastic army gathering

Avian; great work on the knights I really struggled with the nobbly bits on the horses neck armour you’ve finished them superbly and now thinking about trying to match what you achieved

Digital~punk; loads of great detail popping out each time I look at your units but congrats on both the standards really are both done very well

Saltpappa; if I say great skin I’m talking about your dwarfs but also really love the way you’ve done the clothes, your army has a great look and is finished very well

Sparks; I see keeping the dwarf entry up to a high standard great work on the thunderers and I would love to face an army that well painted

Chicken pig; really striking shade of blue and very neatly and crisply painted army also beginning to appreciate the ranking up of units which you’ve done brilliantly

Dino; bags of detail and loads of conversions I keep noticing each time I look and a very character army, can’t wait to see your army at the end

yeah, I think I'll have to pull out as well. I tried to push it last month, as I joined late and am way behind you guys, but the last nail in the coffin came when I not only failed the push due to work, but also got an almost complete, fully painted High Elf army from a friend that needed cash. I have a tournament end of this month, and need to work on the last few models of that army so I can take it. That will put me irretrievably behind, with no chance to catch up before the end of the tale. I look forward to joining the next one, but for now I think there's nothing I can do besides leave.

Have fun guys.

Wow, a sudden wave of wash-outs... That's no good.
Can we still try to convince you guys of staying? Maybe by allowing you to paint a few points less? Harry said it was more about giving people motivation rather then actually painting those 200 points a month...

...

Hmmm... Seems we are currently at the expected drop-out ratio for this month. So no more quiters, you all hear me?!?

Well, I don't know about you other guys, but I'm pushing forward with my models for this month. Luckily I'm currently ahead of schedule, so even with only a little over 100 pts for this month I am still on track. That the little over 100 pts are actually 20 guys is a bit depressing, but the Marauders are at least fairly quick to paint. I'm doing about 5 a week in between work and other things, so I should be done by the first week of april.

Here is my first batch, consisting of models from both units:

How are you guys doing?

17-03-2009, 21:13
Well, I just finished 3 more goblins. Just need to glue on some bits and put grass on the bases.

Then 3 more.

And another 3...

And 3....

Dreaded.
Next time I'll make a bloodthirster army. 4 models and I'm done.

@Someone2040 and Astromarine: No, don't go yet!

I hate to see you guys go, but I understand fully myself. However, as Braad stated, perhaps try to see if you can get some points done this month, and make it up as you go? The month is still (kinda) young!

@Avian: Those guys are shaping up nicely! The hair will work well with tying them into the 'yellow' in your army, and that was a really good call.

I am still in, but due to this work issue (which I really should have resolved yesterday, not tomorrow), I won't be able to post for a few more days.

The good news is that the Black Orcs, which would have been my month three entry, just need some repainting, and I think I have a scheme, so I may be able to post at the beginning of the month this time!

Astromarine
18-03-2009, 08:18
I'd love to stay, but I joined the same time Avian did, but never managed to get my points up beyond the bare minimum for that month. so I have at this time something like 500 points painted. I'm not lacking in motivation at all, but it just doesn't make much sense to share the same thread where you guys are gonna post your 1200 points. :D

I didn't stop due to lack of motivation, I'm doing a lot. Just on another army :) I'll post it in my own plog, and will rejoin the next tale. But unless I can finish my High Elf army this week, then paint at least 400 points of DE next week, I'm out of this one :D

@ nagged - awesome army & this months models are excellent. the new marauder horseman are amazing & those celts look awesome too

@ galen artois - excellent cannons & infantry

@ prince sairion - well done for keeping the pace & very impressive army shot

@ joseph vintilla - cool colours on the chariot although personally i wouldn't have gone with the lions to pull it (although i am planning on doing a chaos lord on a lion when i eventually get round to doing my chaos army!)

@ knighta - such an awesome model & very nice painting too. i really enjoy seeing your posts & seeing how much you've improved since the start of last years TOFP (although i'm once again a little disappointed at not seeing loads of minis for u!)

@ Warlord Ghazak - excellent SO's & snotling bases

@ silverstu - looking amazing so far, can't wait to see them finished with your mates

@ someone2040 & astromarine - please stay if you can, we're at that point where the rules are somewhat relaxed so if you can just get some characters done or post extras over the next month or so you can keep in it

@ avian - glad you can stay in

@ braad - u paint goblins in 3 - you crazy half man/half orc thing!

Although i'm only painting 5 models this month i'm still running behind but should get them finished tomorrow as I got a day off work & posted in the evening. Well done to everyone on all the comments too. I had a dig at people over on TO40KP earlier because they don't seem to post anywhere near as many comments on work or random musings to keep people motivated as we do over here so well done TOFP's

Braad

Yes, I paint them by 3. Is that bad or good?
If I paint less, it feels like I'm going too slow, if I paint more, it takes too long before I see results and get demotivated. 3 is good.

Ow, I usually do batch paint 20-30 up to the point where they are green with teeth, nails and eyes and all other bits that are the same colour, like black night goblin robes.
It's just all the bits that are different that go in bunches of 3 or something like that.

@ Braad - it's neither good or bad, it's whatever you feel comfortable. I personally find painting 3 at a time too few, especially when you want big units like goblins done. I always paint in batches of 5 (any more becomes demoralising!) but as I said it's personal preferance & if you're happy with 3 then that's cool

@ rkunisch - nice looking Khalida & an excellent way to buy back a joker!

Braad

Yeah dunno... As I said, night goblins work fine in larger batches, but especially clothes and stuff are so raggedy and random in my army that it doesn't really cut down on time to paint in larger batches.

Avian

I tend to paint my units in two or three batches (with the number in each batch then depending on the total unit size) for normal sized units. Really tiny ones are done in just one batch. I don't think I could get myself to paint a unit in more than three batches, it would just be too depressing. ;)

and comments for the rest of the collective "studio"

Doi; another consistently top notch entry from doi this month brilliantly subtle conversions very well painted and based

Magos explorater; great standard bearer superb banner and love the armour great to something other than silver and still fits in

Silverstu ; nothing to say really bit speechless favourite army especially love the grave guard can’t believe that’s a wip!

Suavely dunn; great army would really enjoy facing an army like that the banners are looking really effective in the army shot

Firestorm falcon; great army, and great theme brilliantly carried out and looking forward to see it at the end

Galen Artorius; nice work on the canons and the crew , great to see you’re still in and still painting well

Prince Sairon; another of those entries I’m starting to look out for and glad to see still in nothing worse than having to paint figures you don’t enjoy doing but your army looks great

Joseph vintalia; unusual piece but well executed the manes in particular look good shame there no army shot but good luck with your bases

Knighta; great shaman really well weathered and shaded and the details have been finished off brilliantly

Warlord Ghazak Ghazhkull; although it’s a difficult angle the savage orcs are amazing especially the waagh paint

Rkunisch; awesome job on khalida love the cloak , nicely blended

and a well done to all those who have made this far hope you've got out of it what i have

See, it is depressing for me to paint 30 orcs in one batch-style. Helps to have a limited pallete and just alternate the colors on the models, but man, it can get old. Takes the joy right out sometimes, but it at least insures that I completely finish a step.

The thing that I hate is 'excessive details' that are in some of the models, and that slows down my painting. I think I am of the 'Gordon Ramsey/Marco Pierre White' school of thought- keep it simple and let the sculpt speak for itself. Painting 30 orcs is one thing, painting 30 orcs only to get bogged down by what may be a pouch, may be something else/won't know until it is painted really makes batch painting a pain. Details are nice. Complicating the model makes it too busy, IMO.

Oh, and pics may indeed follow tonight, of something Orcy yet not a huge unit!

Sorry guys, did not mean to double-post. Guess I have been on when there is little activity!

ARMY: Orcs (White Orcs, of the Once and Future Git-maybe)
TOTAL POINTS SO FAR: 949 (just shy of five months and two jokers)
MODEL COUNT: 82

THIS MONTHS PAINTING:

UNIT: Orc Shaman on Foot, plus 'random unknown' Savage Orc Shaman on Boar, neither upgraded so I can paint more for the Tale!

BACKGROUND/THEME: These are the fabled White Orcs near Crookback Mountain and Mad Dog Pass in the Badlands. They are of a lighter skintone, but not at all White. Instead, they paint their faces with a greenish-white Skull, giving to their true tribal name.

As such, they are being led by one who could be The Once and Future Git (they don't really care either way, so long as the Waaagh! is flowing), and as such have their ranks suddenly bolstered by an reclusive nutter- a Savage Orc Shaman who rides to battle on a boar. He remains nameless, but unfortunately the tribe is down to just one other Shaman now, yet they have an amazing assortment of angry squigs.

BUILD/CONVERSION: The Shaman on foot may have had a sword removed, as I got it in an e-bay deal a few years back, but the unnamed Shaman on boar is straight out of the blister. Unfortunately.

PAINTING: Started with Black Primer, then the mark II version of my Orc skin. For the Savage Orc, since they are supposed to be in the sun constantly, I decided to start with straight Catachan green, and then only highlight up to the basecoat of my regular orcs. His scars were done as the highlights on the other orcs to make them standout, and his boar has a Skull as Warpaint to make him fit in. As well, although the pics are bad, all the colors are the same as used throughout the army, except I used the new 'chocolate milk' looking recipe for Scorched Brown/Khemri Brown as the basecoat on the bottom layer of rags, backpack, and straps for the Shaman on foot.

BASING: No yellow static grass this time. Unfortunately, I just ran out of the older rocky basing that Citadel did, and did not know that the 'new' mix contains absolutely NO SAND, so the bases are somewhat flat. I really liked that orangish sand, too. Darn it.

STILL TO DO: Small details here and there. Maybe some warpaint for the Savage.

HIGHS: Everyone says characters are supposed to be a way to 'treat' yourself. Started out with the Shaman on foot. Everything was dull until I tried the new recipe, and then found myself mixing more and more paint and continuing to do highlights, and it was such a welcome relief! That model is a wonderful model, even if it does have a few 'extra' details (just a few though). I really had a high this month with these guys. Well....one of them.

LOWS: I said I hate useless details. Like how a Savage Orcs head is horribly out of proportion. Alright, I got past the extra teeth (everywhere), and I was ploughing through the Savage Orc....until I saw the fish. Fish. Seriously? At that point I just lost all faith in the model, which sucks because I was really waiting to paint this up.

Of course, there is also all the personal stuff that has made things very hard. But I am still in it!

POINTS: 151 (Next month will be black orcs, which will be enough for next month and the remainder of this one if that is okay!).

Next month:

15 Black Orcs, full command. After that: (loose schedule)

May: Big Uns (see those gutplates? Yeah, they will be used in some way!)
June: Black Orc on Chariot
July: 30 Orcs w/hand weapon (may need to do 25 to keep points down)
August: Da Once and Future Git-maybe!!! (unless plans change).

Sorry about the pics. They aren't horrible, but they are not the best. May need to get some better ones.

Thank you sir! It was odd, the Shaman on foot was so fun to paint, the most fun I have had besides the Sp.Orcs. That model has really held up well, and after painting the 'unnamed' Savage Orc, I think I am ready to paint up somemore on Boars (seperate from the Tale, though). Those are just fantastic models.

Sadly, those rules are gone... And they were so cool.

Aye, it would have been nice if they had included some version of him in the new rulebook. That is why he is 'unnamed' at this point: He is in the shadows watching to see if Da Once and Future Git is returning, so at least his absence from the rules helps with the mystique I have going for him.

I am not going to lie though.....after getting so frustrated with the model (fish!?), I was tempted to paint his squig on the staff to resemble another *creature* that is constantly emmitting electricity, but I did not want to sculpt a lightening bolt tail, and I think the yellow would have clashed :D.

@Magos Explorator: Thanks again! I was hoping the browns would work, and they do, but at least I can see how I could have made it pop a little bit more. If anything, the Tale is not only getting my models done (after 13+ years of collecting), but seeing all of this great work put out by everyone is really helping identify areas I need to improve upon, and color theory is one of them.

And, the Standard Bearer was pretty pimp. A simple conversion, but you pulled it off very well. I never would have thought to have used a musician as the base model, but it looks really sweet. Might need to steal that idea when I do some of my other armies!

Braad

But you say "not upgraded"? Why's that than? I would at least think you'd make him a savage orc great shaman, level 4, with a full load of magic items.

Something like the Skull Wand, the Kickin' Boots, Power stone and Collar of Zorga. This will be a Troll/monster killer (since they cannot use the generals leadership and explode on a single failed test...).

Remember that it's no problem at all to paint more points, so upgrading him just for the sake of it won't stop you from painting other stuff for the tale.

Yellow squig with lightning bolt tail? No... that's bad... Rather take a duck and give it a leek stalk...

Well it's about time I posted again. All of you who say Uni doesn't suck up all your free time having been lying through your teeth :(. I'm actually posting this at Uni on my shiny new laptop on their wireless internet (which it took me nearly an hour to connect to as their instructions were missing a vital step). In a bit of a rush so I'll post comments on other people's work tonight.

I'll have to try this out when I paint my second giant, might solve the contrast issues that you lot have all commented on.

@doi: the goblin with the great weapon looks great, I hope you don't use it as a GW

I do use it as a GW (well it is on the list as such, haven't played a game with these guys yet). Why wouldn't you use it as such?

Doi: Hey, that Giant actually had a chariot, even though as a weapon, so I still think this counts as 'all-mounted' :D. Interesting conversion you did there. I have been hesitant about painting up my own wolves, but you really seem to be able to put a lot of variation out there to keep the units from looking monotonous. The chariot crewman with the sword is just great, especially with the expression on his face. Very well done.

Well technically he still has his chariot :p. As for keeping my units from looking monotonous, it is the conversions only. Very little variation in my painting :p

Sorry for the double post but here is this months entry too

THIS MONTHS PAINTING: A Level 2 Mage with a Darkstar Cloak & 4 Crossbowmen

POINTS: 200

BACKGROUND/THEME: Yeah, still not worked this out fully but based on D&D Drow

BUILD/CONVERSION: Straight out of the box (the mage is Guild of Harmony)

PAINTING: Same as the rest of the stuff

BASING: Same!

STILL TO DO: Nothing

HIGHS: Not having to pull another joker/drop out of the Tale

LOWS: Umm, it's almost April! Also I went for the black/turquoise mix on the sleeves/boots of the mage but because there's so much skin they don't contrast enough for my liking, might go back & change this

NEXT MONTH: A Bolt Thrower & 5 more Shades, plus I'll do an army shot

@ Jonahmaul
How much points are you up to now, if I may ask?
Nice 'dark' elves btw. I don't think I noticed before that they are actually dark themselves, as most of them don't show much skin... but on the sorcerer its quite obvious. Good to see some variation to the standard light skinned elves.

@ Doi - what degree are you studying? I had loads of spare time on my undergraduate but then I did Sociology which is a bit of a mickey mouse degree! (8 hours a week for first 2 years, 6 hours a week in final year!)

I'm doing a Bachelor of Science (Zoology major). 16-22 hours a week of classes depending on if I have pracs. Add on about an hour and a bit of travel each way 5 days a week and then homework etc. Then I work an 8 hour day on Saturday so I'm not left with much time for warhammer. At least not until I figure out a lighting set up in my room that lets me paint at night without damaging my eyes :(.

@ Firestorm Falcon: Very nice wraiths. The green edged halberds were an excellent choice.

@ nagged: The archers are quite impressive. I notice that some of your yeomen however have had a bit too much to drink and are falling over :p

@ GalenArtorius: That's a lot of Empire from you this month, well done. I'm looking forward to seeing Marshal Gerhardt Schoendorf next time.

@ Prince Sairion: Nice stuff, too bad about the bad casts though. I know it isn't part of this months painting, but the freehand on the banner of the archers behind the white lions is ace.

@ Joseph Vintila: Good job, I'd suggest making the helmet on the crewman a colour other than black though

@ Knighta: Great stuff, the AoW shaman is a great model and you've done it justice.

@ Warlord Ghazak Gazhkull: Nice job. Did you GS the mushrooms on the snotling bases or did they come from a kit?

@ silverstu: You've really got to stop putting as all to shame with efforts like that and calling them a WIP. Can't wait to see the unit finished

@ rkunisch: Very nice, even if the flash makes it a bit hard to make out the details. How did you paint the gold?

@ Nephilim of Sin: Excellent stuff. Though I hope you know that if you add the magic items on to your total your final points total in the TOFP will be higher and much more impressive ;).

@ Jonahmaul: Great stuff from you again. I think I need to get that Guild of Harmony sorceress for myself.

Thanks to everyone who has commented on my efforts this month, it really is encouraging. Like I said, I will go back and finish these guys in the future, and I'll post pictures when I do.

Marshal Gerhardt is on track, and I have assembled and based the next 25 swordsmen so I can get a head start on them. Looking at my plan (which is almost as I wrote it at the start of the Tale) I only have this large block to paint and a large block of Greatswords (they will be the last to paint, as I am waiting in anticipation for the new plastics to be released). Other than these big units, it is a small unit of Knights and a detachment block - so I would be shaming myself if I didn't stay in to the end!

Yes its a lot of hours :(. Between class, gaps between classes, travel and study I don't get much time to myself anymore. I miss the 3 months of nothing between finishing secondary and starting uni :cries:. Should have done an arts degree. 12 hours a week max and their homework just consists of reading the equivalent of 2 small novels a week. I could do that on the train alone. Too bad I like science :p

It has ruled out any chance of me undertaking the next set of Tales with two armies though. And potentially out of both. I shall have to find a way to get free time. The TOFP has let me get so much stuff done.

Don't you get that topic off the ground...

I'd like to finish uni some way or another over the course of the next Tale. And I'm torn between doing two armies, only 40K, or nothing.

Fantasy would mean oldschool Chaos Dwarfs (not that oldschool, just big hats - oh I love 'm), or undead Brettonians, or Araby. Got lots of models for all of them, and would have another of those "got them for years, didn't paint a model" projects done. Just as the Zombie Pirates now.

But I like 40K so much more, and I actually play it every now and then. So more attention would be so much more fruitful. Maybe continue this years Daemons? Or my first and only real love - Orks? Maybe something else?

And beyond that there is real live...

I wish I'd not got it off the ground either. But I've got barely anything done on the warhammer front since uni started. I'm guessing it will ease up once I get a bit more settled in. Maybe I could just find an army I could paint up rather easily. My orks might not fit that criteria :(.

And you need to stay in the TOFP just so I can see those old school chaos dwarves :D.

3 fantasy armies? I only noticed 2 (DE+LM) for you up to now... did I miss something?

Well, I guess for now this will be my only tale, too. I simply don't have enough core to make an actual army when I'm done with this years tale.
Or GW should decide on doing plastic savages, but I'm not counting on that...
Or maybe I could do an army according to the rules for the scenario 'seven knights'... I easily got 2000 points worth of characters still to paint :)
But first: 4 months to go!

What? Someone say "dropping out"?:D

Sorry I haven't been about much- I'm up to my eyes with work- finished my big deadlines next thursday so I'll back on track after that I'm going to take a well deserved break and catch up on my painting.
Thanks for all the nice comments about the guard- just to point out that the front rank does have 2 models pretty much finished- the rest are WIP- those guys where my original testers.
I really want to get round to commenting on everyones stuff because, as ever, there is some great work there.I'll try on sat if I get some time.

Oh and on the next Tale subject- wait until you have finished this one- the euphoria of seeing your whole army done might make you think differently.. I'm thinking of doing another 2000 of dwarfs.. possibly stripping some my older models to give them a refresh and some extras for the bases.;)

No, not 400 points, not by far... But modelwise I easily surpass January. Its just that those dreaded gobbo's are a mere 4 points each, while the boar boyz weighed in at about 22...

In January I had 23 seperate models at 445 points, this month it will be at least 30 models at 231 points, or 1 extra (the chariot) for 63 extra points if I get it finished by the 1st of April...

And a big IF it is, on that chariot... I start getting a bit tired over painting at the moment... some kind of hidden feeling, wanting me to get a social life again :p
I'm currently jobless, as I only just got my diploma's, so I spend really a lot of time on painting, lonely in my room. If I didn't have this time, I would have been up to 4 jokers by now, though, so its not that bad.
I know... I'm a slow painter...
Though I do believe I pressed painting time on a common gobbo down to about 2,5 hours! That's like an hour less compared to when I started.

Next month I'm planning on painting my wolf riders, BTW. I got them all built, greenstuffed and undercoated at the moment, which also took quite some time this and last month, so they are ready to receive paint.

Plastic savages for da win, if they ever come... I'm currently really getting close to having like every orc there is, and need more... I think a year and a half or so, and I'll be done painting too.
Already thinking of converting the new night gobbo's into forest gobbo's and including gnoblars as they are greenskins just as well, just to be able to continue my love for the greenskins.

6 and 7ed that is:). Try to collect al 5th ed models to:p. I own all of models of the current editon except gorbad ironclaw and the mail order shamans, but soon I will own those to.

@ Warlord Ghazak
Well, actually... I don't really like the 5th edition and earlier models. And honestly, I don't have the new night goblins, since I already have the old ones. I should have said: "got nearly all my armybook's slots filled, except savage".
Ow, and i shouldn't forget: I also want' Ruglud's armoured orcs.

@ Jonahmaul
Indeed, gargantuan. Don't worry, I don't need encouragement on that one. All I need is some patience now and to get the money (and a job first) to buy it. The rest (conversion plans, rules) is all pretty much thought through and written down already.

My birthday next year, around that time I should have painted up more or less all the models I currently got (the number 1 priority I set for myself before buying it), combined with presents... You get the point. That's my plan.

Ow, and my conversion plans for it include a 'squig lobber'...

Come to think of it, my current experimental rulesset are at about 1000 points. That's half a Tale...

Doublepost, but hey...

Got a little sneak peek. Hopefully I'll get the whole thing finished, got good hopes, otherwise consider this a WIP for may.

Got the base done:

http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh299/Braad-82/Warseer/Wolfbase1.jpg

But what's that in the back... looks messy:

http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh299/Braad-82/Warseer/Wolfbase2.jpg

Sorry... I saw them at armorcast, and I just couldn't resist buying some of their road kills. And it was nice to paint a squirrel for a change, even though its a bit of a messy one...
Anyway, I actually made slight cart-tracks in the grass this time:

Good? Or not?

Nice roadkill.
Hadn't seen those yet, but I'm reluctant to order from Armorcast again. I got some of those cinematic effects from them and what they charged for postage was ridiculous.

I still owe you guys my comments, which I hope I will get around to on the weekend.

@derv: That Hag is sweet. I think this is my favourite part of your army so far.

@Jimjim: That’s a lot of stuff! Very cool! It looks impressive and I can’t wait to reach that point with my army.

@EgoNinja: Cool knights, my favourite part is the shield with the eyes.

@Dino: Interesting conversion, the disc is great. The way he holds the sword is a bit odd, though.

@Braad: Those four Boyz are nice, but I’m looking forward to seeing a bit more again next month.

@StormCrow: Good job on the skellingtons. As I’ve said from the beginning the purple gives your army a bit of a regal look, which works extremely well.

@Bluesabre: Another army over the 2000pt mark, well done. I especially like the sorceress. I’ve read that some people don’t like that mini, but I do and your paintjob makes it easy to appreciate the figure.

@Avian: There’s something about Knights of Chaos in Ferrari yellow that just works.

@Digital~Punk: I really like the hammer and anvil on your BSB’s banner.

@Leonation: Seems you have found a very effective way to paint your Sauri. Can’t wait to see them finished.

@saltpappa: Ah, the old flame cannon, such a wonderful model. Incredible what you have done with its crew, they look fantastic. And the red tint on that thunderer’s nose is simply wonderful.

@sparks: Solid work so far and your test model for the standard you want to reach is very promising.

@Chicken Pig: It’d suck greatly if you sold your army, you have done such a marvellous job with it. Again I really like the corsairs.

@Dino: The Death Rocket is fantastic, I actually wondered what model that was because I didn’t take it for a conversion.

@Doi: You seem to put so much character into every piece of your army it’s unbelievable. The sense of movement on your Big Boss is fantastic, the conversion just fits together perfectly.

@Magos Explorator: Great conversion, I might have to steal that idea.

@silverstu: The scheme for these might have been simple, but it works well.

@SuavelyDunn: Looking great, I envy you so much for being so far with your army.

@Firestorm Falcon: I like the blues, but I’m not so sure about the green edges on the weapons. Maybe if they were on a white background rather than black.

@nagged: Those bowmen are sweet. What kind of competition did you need them for? The banners on your yeomen are haunting.

@GalenArtorius: Nice artillery, the old crew are some very nice models. I think I’ll have to put the guy holding the book on my wants list.

@Prince Sairion: More orange goodness, always welcome. Can’t really say anything about the White Lions, but the army as a whole is top notch.

@Jopseph Vintila: Those are some trippy lions, that’s for sure.

@Knighta: The red looks very good. Next weekend I’ll go to a con and the only reason I’m going is the Avatars of War booth. Originally I had ruled out getting the shaman, but your take on it makes me reconsider.

@ Warlord Ghazak Gazhkull: Nice face paint on the savage orcs. I always shy away from doing something like that, but I guess I should try.

@rkunisch: I’ve never looked closely at that model before. It sure is creepy. Good job, especially the face.

@Nephilim of Sin: That shaman on foot is such a fantastic mini and your paintjob makes him look unbelievably good. I like the shaman on boar too, but it is a somewhat busy model and yes, the fish are definitely weird.

@Jonahmaul: I hadn’t heard of Guild of Harmony before, but it seems I’ll have to keep an eye on them. That’s a fantastic mini for a DE sorceress and you have done it justice. Any reason why three of the crossbowmen are pointing their weapons at her?

Thanks to everybody who took the time to comment on my stuff. My answers to some of those comments:

@ EmperorNorton (WE): Now if you had painted that dragon first up the rest of the TOFP could have been a breeze! The bases really suit the wardancers (paticularily the one standing/leaning on the big log)
Regrettably it did not stay as breezy, which is a little ironic as you will see in a couple of days.

EmperorNorton: Good work on the Wardancers. How do you get the miniature leaves to stick to the base properly? I have some here and there and they keep falling off.
Have you tried glue? :p
Nah, they don’t really stick properly to my bases, either. My carrying case is full of the stuff that has fallen off.

Emperor Norton; another top notch entry from you again and fantastic bases really making your models stand out
I like mixing in some resin bases in my units. While I have seen whole armies on those bases I think that’s a little much, both pricewise and because I don’t think that Athel Loren only consists of tree stumps.

Doi

No, not 400 points, not by far... But modelwise I easily surpass January. Its just that those dreaded gobbo's are a mere 4 points each, while the boar boyz weighed in at about 22...

In January I had 23 seperate models at 445 points, this month it will be at least 30 models at 231 points, or 1 extra (the chariot) for 63 extra points if I get it finished by the 1st of April...

Well after seeing Knighta paint 60 skaven slaves for 120pts in one month last year it doesn't surprise me how much other people cant paint :p. Have you got more goblins to go in the TOFP or is this unit it?

Come to think of it, my current experimental rulesset are at about 1000 points. That's half a Tale...

I'm sure we can find a way to make it count as the core choices you are currently lacking to do another TOFP as long as you promise to paint it in the first half :D

Good? Or not?

Well all I can say is that I wish I saw these things before I did my own chariots

@Doi: You seem to put so much character into every piece of your army it’s unbelievable. The sense of movement on your Big Boss is fantastic, the conversion just fits together perfectly.

Too bad the actually conversion didn't fit together perfectly :p. Making that axe was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. Axe head: check. Detail for bottom of axe shaft: check. Axe shaft: Massive problems. Only tube shaped object I could find that was of a size that I need was a nail. Clippers don't cut it, saw wont cut it. I had to use a pair of rusty old tin snips I found in the garage. Which not only struggled the whole way through, but took 3 attempts to get one cut to the correct length since they aren't exactly precise tools. Took me an hour and a half to do the axe shaft :p

So I've actually got some time to myself this week since I dont have any pracs for uni. So I might actually be able to get something painted for the April thread. Just dont expect 200pts :p

Alright guys! Great to see a bunch of people still into this! After walking in on a friend masturbating the other day, I actually thought that painting warhammer isn’t THAT embarrassing and so I told my roomie at UNI. He was all cool with it, he’s from London so all his friends used to play and now I feel comfy painting in our room with a locked door. That means that those units will get done (apart from mattvarnishing) while I’m here, which is great! There’s a lot of stuff going on so I don’t know when they will be done though. NY turned out to be great! I found the GW store and got myself three croxies =D I love the models they look so good!

Thanks a lot for all the comments! I’ll do my best to give you something colorfull to look at next month (although I might post a bit late). Croxies, chakax, stegadon, and templeguard are all waiting so there’s gonna be some nice stuff. I tried making an armylist the other day though and I’m sorry but why do lizzies have to be so da***mn expensive! I wanna have tons of models but can fit maybe half of them. I don’t think I’ll use the swarms in the basic armylist and not tehenhauin either. But I’ll have a minimum 2000 pts army done by august I promise you! I’m actually starting to think of the next tale. I wan’t to do more lizzies but my wood elves and elder are screaming for attention, and my eyes have started glancing at the lord of the rings range too…

Derv – sweet, I especially love the look of your army together, very coherent, very inspiring!
Jimjim – That’s quite a horde your got there! Love the blue on the squiggs, fits nicely. I think the characters would look better without the names on the base though, but maybe that’s just me. Keep it up!
EgoNinja – I love the new knight models and you bring out the best in them, nice work!
Emperor Norton – Nice! Gets me inspired to start with my WE. I could see them looking a tad bit better with some darker shades on them, maybe some watered down blackwash over loincloth and strings around arms?
Dino – A very good use of Ahriman! I would have preferred the GW disk though but it mostly comes down to that it’s damn hard to get feathers looking good while sculpting. CD nice as always, I’m longing for the old models though.
Braad – I realy like the oldschool look of those boys, nice job. To be honest though, the bases doesnät cut it for me. It looks like a lawn… it works on the smaller models but for your chariots man… sorry. If I where you id mix it up with another color and add some flock, paint, mudd, to get it more realistic.
StormCrow – Sweeet!!! I gotta say that the army looks amazong, it so great seeing everyones armies just forming up so nicely. Great job! Simple but effective color scheme.
Bluesabre – I just noticed your doing the army on the last edition models except for lokir and the cold one general. What do you think of the new available stuff? Nothing that suits your taste. I think Lokir fits very well with those corsairs.
Avian – Banner is a superb conversion! Great looking! I’m sorry but the yellow doesn’t cut it for me though…
Digital Punk – Very good job with the non metal gold on the banner there. I’ve never tried it, seems to be very hard.
Saltpappa – I love those old models! Man I dream every night that warhammer would just turn back the clock like ten years :) imagine being able to have all metal armies!
Sparks – Miners doesn’t really look as good as the thunderers, maybe some extra details. Thunders look great! Theres so many talented dwarf painters in here.
Chicken Pig – nice but you better shape up those photos. Provide as much lightning as possible. Place the camera on something to provide stability. I think your models look realy good but I would love to see some more detail.
Doi – I realt wanna see an armyshot now!
Magos – dude that banner bearer looks amazing!!! Love the mix of old and new!
Silverstu – nice and effective, army looking realy good.
Suavely Dunn – I love your color scheme, I love dipping too :D
Firestorm Falcon – I think they would look even better with some more highlights and maybe the same colour on the weapon as on the model.
Nagged – I realy start to like your style now. The composition gets to the tribe feeling of the chaos, which isn’t very pointed on in the model range.
Galen Artorious – Nice! I’d think some blue/green highlight on the black could work well, not gray though.
Prince Sairon – Nice look on the army, make some movement trays – they really help!
Joseph Vintilla – Sorry but even if you rule out the base, that model doesn’t look finished to me… I like the colors though, I bet you could do it the justice.
KNighta – Nice – could be better with more highlights though, love the model.
Warlord – Snotlings! Yeah! And mushies on that, great. Would love to see brighter pictures though!
rkunisch – I like it, good job. Is she really over 400 pts? Neat.
Nephilim – Lovely! Warpaint look great and army look to! I love whurzaggs mask
Jonahmaul – Nice look, where’s the sorceress model from?

After walking in on a friend masturbating the other day, I actually thought that painting warhammer isn’t THAT embarrassing and so I told my roomie at UNI.

I had some comments here, but maybe its just better to skip those.

If I do one, I need to do all to keep them in line. This would mean rebasing nearly 400 orcs, gobbo's and other green things = I don't think so...
I started basing them like that when I just started, and at the time I found out there where better ways for basing, I was already to far into this.
My first thought when thinking up the base is that there are places in the world (mainly rich cultured areas) that look like huge green lawns. My thought always was that my orcs were very busy plundering the Empire, so would run around their nice green meadows.

But if I ever start a new army (don't count on that though...) I'll do a more original base.

Also, when fielded it actually looks nice, as my orcs don't carry complete forests and mountains around on the battlefield, which I always found more odd than a nice lawn...

Guilty as charged:o - the wraiths really were done to stay in the tale- I'll maybe redo them when I get the time. The graveguard are my attempt to get back on track painting wise. Going to have to cram at the end of the week to get the guard done- they will be late but hopefully worth the wait;)

Well, since I havent found time to comment on everyones great work, least I can do is reply to others comments.

@derv: Thanks, the 4 wide ranks was a bit of a mistake with the movement tray, I will more than likely make a new tray 6 wide, since theres only 12 of them.
@Braad: Correct on the corsairs and Lokhir, and thank you for your comment.
@Jonahmaul: Yup since the last edition.
@Doi: I've surprised myself as well, but my other painting has fallen by the wayside due to this.
@Avian: he'd probably fit if he was stuck at the end of the file, but certainly not in the middle with these figures.
@WGG:Thanks.
@Nephilim of Sin: I figured with the banners I'd try to put what the unit's role is on the banner, something with a bit more meaning than a bunch of random runes and scratchings. Also give's me a chance to practice my freehand some more.
@nagged: Thank you
@EmperorNorton: When I've finished it should be close to or over 6000pts, with all the extras thrown in. I like this model as well, I still have another in it's original blister, possible coversion material waiting to happen.
@Leonathion: Nothing against the new models, when the last book was released I purchased the army deal that was available at the time. Since I never got around to finishing them all I figured now would be a good an opportunity as ever. I'll probly add some of the new stuff at a later date, maybe after the second wave of releases.

Wohoo! I ask, they come. Never thought I was that powerfull in my summoning abilities...

Well, I'm doing Zombies, might have to do something with it? :D

There is some flocking still to do, pictures will be done in about two hours or so. However, there is a certain person keeping me from posting them for the rest of the day right into the evening - so they might be online at a point when it is already April in parts of the world (read: late evening for me). They'll be done though.

On a slightly related note: anybody got some April's Fool model done? I know I have an Easter model in the works, so maybe there are others.

@ BigJon - better late than never & a very good entry too, awesome looking Ogre's, the skin tones in particular are very nice

@ Darnok - looking forward to the pics

A person? So... tell us more. Or better, tell us more afterwards... :p

Anyway, I decided to not include a 4th crewmember on my chariot (it doesn't fit nicely now everything is glued in place), so suddenly it is really nearly done. Just one gobbo to finish, and its only the banner he is holding that is not done yet. It's been a good month again, orc-wise.

Darnoks WHF Zombie Pirates - Painting of February 2009

First of all: apologies for being insanely late with this entry. Painting was done quite a while ago, but I wanted to show finished models - which means varnishing and flocking. Put making pictures on top of that, and my bad attitude towards deadlines (and the last day of the month is the ultimate daedline for this...), and you may get a glimpse of why it took me so long. Having a girl didn't help either...

Units:

10 Scurvy Dogs ... 100 points
1 Carronade ... 70 points
1 Bloated Corpse ... 30 points

This months painting: 200 points

Total painting so far: 997 points, two jokers used

Painting and Conversions

The dogs are not converted at all. They were just put on the appropriate bases, sometimes two dogs per base for better looks, and painted the usual way, using sepia wash and different shades of brown. I used wolve models from Mega Miniatures (http://www.battlefield-berlin.de/shop/index.php?cat=WG1091&product=MEM-40018), because the GW zombie wolves are way too big for my taste to stand in as dogs (no matter how rotten you are, you don't grow three times as big). I think the ones I found make for excellent "scurvy dogs", as they have the wolve look and are perfectly in scale for WHF dogs. So win-win!

The bloated corpse is a simple WHF zombie with a head from the WHF crypt ghouls, just like the four others I already have done. Usual painting, with a "recently alive" leg with flesh tones, and the blood trail I used for the other four corpses before. I now have five of these buggers, and think that is enough.

Now for the Carronade. I wanted to tell a bit of a story on that one, namely that of an ogre sailing the world, looking for treasures, then getting zombified. Wether or not he has found any treasure is up to your guesses, but you might want to check the (not so subtle) hints: gold on each crew gnoblar and the ogre itself, the treasure chest with golden inlays, the treasure map on his trousers (Here Be Dragons! ;)), and the leading gnoblar wearing a fur coat that is just too expensive for a bugger like him...
The models are from the GW ogre range (obviously), using parts from the WHF Empire cannon and gunners kit (powder apes for the win!). All models got painted like I paint my usual zombies, using a dark earthy green on certain cloth parts to mark them as part of the same unit. I imagine they travelled as a mercenary group for years, until having the bad luck to run into those zombie pirates and their very special methods of recruitment...

What next?

One thing I learned through the Tales so far: nothing ever turns out exactly the way you planned it. Right now I have the minimum core choices I need to legally field a 2000 points army (one block of zombies, two units of five dogs each); I plan to do a unit of zombies with guns - they are crap, but... zombies with *******' guns! Other than that a Big Bess is still under construction, and right now I'm painting a siren and another captain. There needs to be a Luthor Harkon at some point in the near future, or at least an appropriate "counts as" model - actually I don't want my army to be Harkons one, but one of my own. Well, we shall wait and see, right?

High Elves

This Months (and last months...) Painting

Models: Two units of 18 High Elf spearmen with Full Command and a Warbanner on one of them. - The Shining Guard and the Warriors of Iron Pass

Background: Prince Baralei of Yvresse began his service to Ulthuan as a humble spearmen, fighting on the frontlines against all who would oppose the Asur. Every battle was a struggle and every elf that was slain was a hard loss, the silver haired warrior held his greatest friends in his arms as they struggled to cling to life.

Baralei, as a Prince, has a great respect for these humble warriors of the Phoenix King, that is born from his days fighting alongside them. He will often lead his troops from where the fighting will be most dire as Baralei has long said that he will never send an elf to fight where he would not go himself.

These skilled warriors serve Baralei with courage for they know he is an elf they can trust with their lives and in many a battle they have beaten off greater foes with an unbreaking line of gleaming spears. It is with a heavy heart that Baralei sends these young elves into harms way but he knows that their sacrifice is not in vain - for every elf that falls, the Golden Dawn draws closer.

Points: 399 (close enough right?)

Building Conversion: Gave one of the units the banner from the archer box but thats it.

Painting: Making use of GW's spray gun thing really helped speed up this process, after they were old gold it was really just clear sailing.

Basing: Used the same method I have been since the start of the tale.

Highs and Lows: Major low was not getting these guys done for last month! I'd also like to buy back my 'joker' (which I was listed as using on that awesome table) Another low was completely screwing up one of the units standards, using the wrong arm so that it isnt raised... oh well! I'll fix it one day.

Still To Do: Just gotta do the designs on the banners and these guys are ready for the field.

Total Points Thus Far: 1510

Next Month: I should have White Lions ready to show... although dont expect them in the first week!

Also, forgive the not-so-great pics but I'll post some better ones tomorrow!

Manage to fit in a social life? I'm lucky I'm not a social person or I'd be quite depressed at my lack of a social life :p
Ah, is this the point where I tell you how many parties I decided not to go to so I could stay at home and paint for the Tale instead?

On a slightly related note: anybody got some April's Fool model done? I know I have an Easter model in the works, so maybe there are others.
Oh no! I fell for that on Talk Like a Pirate Day when I thought we were all going to paint a special model.
As a very somewhat not particularly wise man said: Fool me once, shame on - shame on you!

Oh, I wasn't complaining, in fact even if I had the time for it I wouldn't have a social life as I don't like parties and the like :p. Staying home and working on warhammer is not only more productive but much more fun :D. I have mates that disagree though and try to get me to go out. They haven't won yet :D

@ Darnok: Very nice, especially the Carronade. Though I don't think I want to bare witness to his dragon ;)

@ Alathir: Good job. Nice to see an Asur showing his true colours and hiding entirely behind his banner :p

And some stats:

We still have 41 painters running in the tale with 46 armies, though 6 armies are currently jokered 3 times and 1 is jokered 4 times.

The total number of shown armies this month actually exactly matched the amount I expected at the beginning of March: 33.
Though I was probably a bit lucky on that one...

And this is the list of everyone still in, with purple "joker?" ones not having said anything this month about what happened:

For those who care I've updated my pictures with far better quality ones.

A joker is not a shame, is it? Well, I have one...
Anyway, much better pics indeed. If your earlier banners are anything to go by, I guess the ones you still have to do will also be pieces of art in their own right...

Alathir

Haha no of course not, I'm just joking! (alert: fantastic pun :p)

Thanks for the comments, Braad. Yeah, I'm quite looking forward to seeing the banners finished - they take a fair amount of effort to get right but its really paying off I think.

@ Doi: Yes, well that cowardly elf was recently scolded by the unit's Sentinel and will be expected from now on to face the right direction...

@ Darnok - better late than never (even if it is really really late!) & some excellent additions to your army, the map on the Ogre's pants is a very cool idea

@ Alathir - also another late entry but congratulations on managing to buy back a joker. Some very impressive stuff again from you

@ Braad - my LM are at about 1000 points as well

@ Alathir: Beautiful Elves! With the first pictures I honestly thought "meh, what's that supposed to be?", but they look amazing when put on better pictures. Really well done, both for painting and photographing.

@ Braad: If you want to change it: my points total at the moment is 997. I PMed Harry about it already, but thought I'd let you know too.

Sorry for not posting until now, real life has been a bit busy and I haven't much time to get onto the forums.

Anyway, no Joker for me this time. I already managed to get to over 1400pts (i.e. 7 months worth) in month 6. I do have more stuff for month 8 though, will post when I get home and can take the pics.

EDIT: Just double checked, my total from month 6 was 1461pts

I didn't have a points value for you, so couldn't check. Added it now, and removed the joker. Looking forward to seeing your stuff again this month!

@ Reik, in the other thread... but I'm not allowed to post there yet :D

Well, your absence didn't go unnoticed, good to see you back. About your jokers, you say you painted 1466 points, and currently we should be at 1600 if no jokers are used, so you can claim one joker back! Hopefully that reduces your shameful feelings a bit...
