Having not completed an army above 1000pts, a necro/gorkamorka gang or Bloodbowl team since the turn of the millennium, I've decided to pool all my work here. Hopefully having a thread to update will motivate me to finish greening and painting my three current projects:

-An Imperial Guard Storm Trooper Company that is being completely stripped and repainted to more 'spec ops' theme.

-An Angels of Redemption Marine army that was started summer 08.

-A goblin Bloodbowl team that's been relegated to the back burner, more than likely because painting this many different shades of green outside of an Ork army is quite frankly, ludicrous.

Updated 27/5/09, WIP pics of the IG and SM armies:

Storm trooper army being as unpainted as it can.

Angels of Redemption marines.

The test mini for my Storm Trooper army, the whole lot are going to be stripped and redone in this OD colour scheme.

The higlightings quite weak but i'm happy with the way the grenade launcher came out. Usually I'd go ******* with boltgun metal but figured an elite group of spec ops wouldn't want a big ass shiny reflective gun.

Cool beans, I love the last edition version of Storm Troopers (I don't know why they replaced it with those ugly as Kasrcraps).

24-04-2009, 00:15
Looking good mate, you can do it!

Cool beans, I love the last edition version of Storm Troopers (I don't know why they replaced it with those ugly as Kasrcraps).

The old skool black beret stormtroopers are still the coolest stormtroopers GW has made. Shame the plastics only came in one pose :(

24-04-2009, 22:51
Plastics + special & heavy weapons. Well, and the officers.

I remember seeing the all storm trooper army in WD ages ago... with all berets, in their sleek as black jump suits and big as back packs.

I loved the old plasma guns back then, they looked like plasma 'rifles'. Today's guns look a little bit like zap cannons lol; but I do love the Cadian plasma gunners, they look like they mean business (good to see proper scaling of weapons between IG and Marines as well).

Anyway, enough off topic nonsense.

Also a big fan of the older storm trooper models, good luck - think the sentinel squadron will make a nice accompanyment for a small elite, forward detatchment type thing.

As it's nearly as satisfying interfering with other peoples projects as doing your own i'll bung in some suggestions:
-If you can be bothered i think it would be worth using some wire to add cabling from the guns to the power packs, have done this on a couple of models and it's pretty simplebut looks good.
-Wondering if you'd thought of doing a dot camo on the green as it's quite a dark scheme and would help the material stand out from the black bits.
- if the sentinels are open topped you could try ordering some seperate gas mask type heads (think westwind and others do them fairly cheaply) to keep the theme - alternatively you could armour the crew compartments with plasticard if you fancy the challenge.

27-04-2009, 02:40
So there happened to be a bottle of dot 5 kicking around, the first squad were stripped and i got round to painting two of them due to my ridiculously slow painting speed...

@Colhodg... I don't think i could bring myself to modify these storm trooper models, I also really like the fact they're not carrying around massive power packs for their Hellguns. I've always thought the idea of having a portable generator to make a better Lasgun was a bit ridiculous (40k ridiculous? never ;)) when surely the same effect could be achieved with tighter focus rings and hot shot or just plain more efficient power packs. Or something like that! I've been tossing the idea of doing a marpat style camo scheme in the vein of Gropius' frankly awesome Flectarn http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=76981 , but I'm loving the plain old OD for the moment. Since i heard of the Plastic Valks I've had a whole Apocalypse Now theme going round my head (as i guess most of the Guard playing world has) and the OD fits right in with that. As to sculpting sentinal pilots with gasmasks, the next thing on my list to strip is 3 of these...

I don't think I've ever really been a fan of GW's face sculpts, so more gas masked troops :D I'm worried about stripping these guys because it took me an age to green the berets, goggles and masks...

Does anyone know if Dettol will dissolve the green stuff? And to mix things up abit, the blood bowl team thats slowly being painted and greened...

12-05-2009, 15:14
Small update time...

The planets aligned and i finally got hold of some plasticard and a plastic Valkyrie, so was able to make a replacement canopy and landing struts for my Vulture:

Struts attached:

I also started work on a base for the flyer, very bare for the moment:

Work on painting the ST's is going slow, got 7 out of 33 painted, and two of the three Sentinal's are halfway painted. Pic's coming once i finish the whole squad of ST's and squadron Sentinals...

13-05-2009, 17:05
I like those gas masks

In my experience, Dettol weakens greenstuff, so its pretty much a given you'll have to redo the sculpting work.

I'm liking the colour scheme on those Storm Troopers, looks suitably spec ops.

18-05-2009, 17:47
Good Stuff mate, although id probably leave your older squads as is rather than risk the Greenstuff sloughing off! Different regiments ftw.

Good to see the Vulture in progress too, although im suspecting AA may be a wise investment next time we play big apoc!

20-05-2009, 15:12
Shame about the green stuff, might just cut the heads off and strip the body's then, I all ready need to re-sculpt the carapace on their legs.

Do marines have anti air Noserenda? Not that I imagine that the only army your playing at the moment, i was thinking about getting a Hydra too after seeing your blogs pics ;)

Vulture has finally had a colour put on after almost two years of shelf sitting:

Lots left of it to paint, though seeing it half done has given me the push i needed to start the Valkyrie.

21-05-2009, 00:05
Cool beans mate, Air Cav looks pretty :D

No AAA tanks at the Moment, but in the TF packs missile launchers can be upgraded to AA which is a nice placebo (They always mess it up...).

Hydras are fun, but it may be worth waiting to see if they are in the IG Wave 2 which is out August apparently, the FW ones are subject to Epic barrel warp!

27-05-2009, 18:56
Another week and very little progress, Fallout 3 is robbing me of all my free time again, damn weak will...

Whilst painting wear and tear on the Vulture today I got so bored that I started looking for something else to paint... The storm troopers now have the beginnings of a psyker battle squad.

After looking through the Guard codex I found i needed an Overseer for them and just happened to have the preacher kicking around, all ready painted, this dude is one of my favorite models GW have ever produced. So i had an overseer and a colour scheme for the Sanctionites...

24-07-2009, 17:11
Finished painting up the Vulture and Sentinel's to table top standard, no markings as of yet because I'm still undecided about unit numbers, what to use as kill markings and the regiment insignia.

Progress is slow due to running out of black spray and money this month... still, got Big Chill tickets :D

So My FW order of a Stygies VIII Vanquisher turned up a few days ago, never been a fan of the Leman Russ model so i searched the hell out the internets looking for inspiration* to help me build something I actually liked out of the kit.

*read 'ideas to steal'. ;)

Now I saved all the cool looking conversions and kit bashes into a picture folder on my desktop instead of bookmarking the OP's, big mistake because now I can't redirect anyone to or credit the guys who came up with the ideas first. I think a few ideas came from the Tread head thread on here (not feeling up to going back through that epic thread at the moment!) but other ideas definitely came from another forum, if you know where let me know and I'll put some linkage in :)

So here's what i got so far:

C&C most welcome!

12-08-2009, 16:57
Vanquisher has been built, although I still need to add some GS rivets onto the plasticard plating. Putting this together has been quite fun, can't wait to get started on a 2nd now. Onto pictures!

The tank looks great, really nice bit of work there.

25-11-2009, 14:32
Super Dynamic Picture Time, or something.

After a couple of months of Gee Dubya inactivity due to a combination of boredom, not being able to game at my LGS and Borderlands (gotta get those oranges...). I decided to prototype a couple of colour schemes for repainting my SOB allies.

These two also served as an experiment in using washes after reading Big Squig's thread: more fun with washes (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=209588) Although not having any washes to hand, I just used very, very thin GW paints.

So far I'm leaning towards the red version, mainly as the scheme's more complimentary next to the Angels of Redemption and the Guard force. Also if I ever get round to making it (SOB) a full force, I know I'll regret having to paint purple vehicles.

Thanks for the compliment Explodingboy. The Vanquisher has had a slight overhaul. Decided the Chimera tracks were, well, too Chimera-ee. So set about with my original (yet more time consuming) plan of extending the original Russ tracks. Got one almost done, just needs green stuff to fill out the gaps.

C+C most welcome :)

25-11-2009, 15:31
Looking good mate, Id probably go red for sisters, though they both look good!

Also should be down Thursday!

26-11-2009, 19:08
Vanquisher XLII is almost ready for painting, just need some green stuff now.

30-11-2009, 20:06
So both my brother's Xbox360's got the RROD in the past week, hence mines been in demand for their COD fix. Decided to use it as a good reason to get some stuff painted and finish putting the Vanq together instead of bustin' caps in zombies all day.

Need some suggestions on the Storm Troopers. The army list I'm running has three squads of the ST models, two running as Vets and the other as ST's, and I can't figure out a way to differentiate the ST's. I want to keep all the fatigues OD and I was thinking of painting their vambraces half white, half red, the same as the sisters but I'm unsure...

C+C most welcome :)

30-11-2009, 23:22
Played around with some markings on the Vulture this evening. Remembered reading a tip somewhere about using a pencil to sketch out what you were after on the model, and it worked like a charm (i think).

Cookie to anyone who can name the famous sci-fi vehicle the slogans from...

01-12-2009, 01:45
haha, love that Valk.. very nice.. and the Vanquisher looks great as well.. nice job on extending the tracks.. looks like a mean lean fighting machine...Keep up the good work

01-12-2009, 02:44
Cookie to anyone who can name the famous sci-fi vehicle the slogans from...

Would that include a cookie, and possibly some tactical smart-missiles, phased-plasma pulse-rifles, RPG's, sonic electronic ballbreakers, nukes, and/or knives and sharp sticks?

Aliens is such a good IG motivational movie.

Everything is looking good. As far as distinguishing Vets from STs, perhaps a combat stripe on their helmet/armor to distinguish them? Maybe a red/white shield on the side of their helmets? Different colored armor, but maintaining the OD clothing underneath? Just some ideas for ya.

The LR Vanq is looking beastly.

01-12-2009, 11:56
those tanks are looking amazing. crazy amazing in fact. well done!

07-12-2009, 23:39
Love the Vulture mate, youll have to get em all down the shop sometime in the flesh :D

For stormies, maybe a stripe on the back of the helmet? Im guessing theyd be a special/veteran unit from the same regiment, so given the generally realistic look they have, something subtle like that would probably work better. Shame they lack shoulder pads really, they make unit designations a doddle!

Then maybe something re coloured on the guns, they are after all packing more kick :skull:

09-12-2009, 14:58
interesting work and some good conversions. Looking forward to seeing the finished noise art.

12-12-2009, 16:10
Wordy update unfortunatly

First of thanks for all the compliments posted on here, ince to know what I'm working on isn't going to be laughed at when i finally get a game in!

Got hold of my LGS order finally so i'm working on an armoured sentinal and a 'Bungaroo Chimera', which just needs a shiney FW turret and painting. All the suggestions for distinguising the Vets have been quite helpful, I've got a plan. But before I take the plunge, repaint their helmets, and customize their hellguns I was after some more advice...

I've been looking at Elysians, and thinking of getting a few squads to act as Veterans in the army. Mainly because I love the minis, but it would also mean I have 3 storm trooper units to play with. What I'm getting at is, do people think the Elysian models will outdo my current Storm Troopers in terms of the 'Spec Ops' look? Or even for that matter look good alongside the ST's...

12-12-2009, 20:22
Hey dude, thought i'd return the favour :)

First up, I love those sisters, the red and white work REALLY well together. Half-half schemes rock!

That leman russ is ace, might even have to try it out myself! The vulture is awesome, especially the weathering, not too much and not too little.

On the Elysian note, comparing the two the Elysians are kind of minimalist with their equipment and the STs certainly aren't. Personally i'd use the Elysians as the veterans but give them the heads with respirators and give them the extra equipment packs, just to reinforce the fact that their veterans and better equiped than the rank and file guardsman. But to be completely honest, if you still have the cadians with the goggles and gas masks that you posted in your second post then they'd fit it a bit better with the look of the STs.

Hope some of that helps!

14-12-2009, 18:38
Now with pictures.

Thanks for posting Salvindogath, just pm'd ya, hope the sisters go well dude.

Still not sure what to use the Elysians for exactly, ordered a squad plus some weathering paints anyway. On weathering paints, Bungaroo's thread “DEATH’S HEAD” - 3rd Krieg Tank Division - Titan Hunter Detachment (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=126013) has been a major source of inspiration for both modelling and painting, guy blows me away.

Whilst waiting for a load of stuff to dry after priming, decided to sketch up a little bit of tank art for the Bungaroo Chimera, christened Tank Steedington. Seeing as I hadn't put any kind of army list up in this here thread, heres what I'm fielding for the time being too.

And Tank Steedington himself about to get painted.

14-12-2009, 19:26
I love your work

14-12-2009, 19:38
Nice Steedington there lol, first time i've seen a chimera done in this style with anything other than an autocannon :P

I have to admit, your list made me lol, and I extra-lol'd at the veteran squad with the demolitions and grenade launcher.. 'Jihad' priceless!!

14-12-2009, 23:13
@hur@n: Thanks for the compliment, however I'd feel a bit bad if I took credit because my inspiration has been drawn from other forum members (linked throughout the thread) loftier in skill than I! I'm glad you like my stuff though ;)

@salvindogath: lol yeah i'm fully expecing the demo squad to take 100% casualtys with the targets I have in mind for them... And for the time being Steedington will have a multilaser. However I'm lusting after a beefy FW Autocannon, although the more I see the ML its growing on me.

Well had a productive evening which I didn't expect to happen, watching/listening to Life on BBC Iplayer seems to be great for painting. After doing some more free hand tonight, I officially hate my GW fine detail brush. Might be because its a bit knackered, but damn was it trying its hardest to flay all over the model. Tank Steedington is ready for weathering and such, just need to get some oil paint (damn you Bungaroo, damn yoooou ;))

Right this photo's for Tom, who wanted to see what I did with the troop bay recess. Photo shows how horribly skewed my plasticard strip was glued on, the hull is actually straight despite what the photo wants you to think. Wish I'd found Bungaroo's thread before starting the conversion because he has a kick ass way of filling this gap.

15-12-2009, 07:49
How did thundercock go?

05-01-2010, 13:35
First off I hope everyone had a Great Christmas and New Year filled with toys and excess :)

Managed to finally get in a game over the xmas period against my cohort Toms pointy eared girls. Managed a minor loss and had great fun playing. Stand out moments being Squad Red Label annihilating a squad of Scorpions to Toms utter disgust, and the Vulture getting every bright lance in the vicinity pointed at it as soon as it showed its face (it did indeed die before firing a shot lol). Got a few pics that I may or may not upload at a later date.

Picked up some FW weathering powders, some HassleFree mini's bare heads and a squad of Elysians over xmas (shouts to my mum for not going completely spare at the price of some toys). Got some pics of my attempts at weathering (basically going ape-**** with the powder).

And the first Elysians with custom heads. By the way, I now have 10 standard Elysians heads kicking around, shoot me a pm if you're after any and we'll sort something out.

C&C most appreciated.

05-01-2010, 14:33
Good Stuff with the Elysians. looking quite badass!

Dunno about the weathering though, it looks Odd... But then im far from an expert on the subject! I _think_ its because some of the hull looks good and weathered, but other patches dont, and the tracks look spangly and new. Its something ive been looking into myself before we hit our little ordering hiccup (Ill explain Thursday!) and theres loads of good advice/guides out here :skull:

05-01-2010, 15:05
Yeah I see what you mean, when I get back from work I'll weather up all those pristine panels, also you've reminded me that I completely forgot to put a wash on the tracks, the tops of them are quite mucky but the sides and patches of them are damn pristine. Can't lie, I was totally rushing through everything so I could start slapping on the powders, really should look for a proper guide seeing as I have no idea how to use them. I'll buff it all off and start again proper :D thanks for the comment dude, I'll chuck some of the powders in a couple of spare pots and bring some down for you on thurs if you wanna have a play.
