I ahve just finished my eldar and space marine armies and want to move onto a relatively evil army - Chaos Marines/Demons, Necrons, Nids or Orks. Could anyone sway me to choose one as I can not decide?

My vote is Orks or Daemons. They play a lot differently from Eldar or Marines, instead of more of the same.

People will tell you that Orks are one of the best armies in the game. It's true they have some great units if you want to build a powerful list, but they also have great character and fluff too, while still being a strong force. Daemons are a great choice for an "evil" army, but are more specialised with their unique deployment, it could take some time to learn how to use them in games.

NIDS ARE NOT EVIL , just very very very very hungry and very kool play dynamic :P

ORKS ARE NOT EVIL, just very very very very brosterious and tons of fun ;)

if you want evil go imperium

but serioulsy if you want a compleatly diffrent playing style try tyranids they are great fun nice models and have a new codex in the works. Orks are also great they are probaly the most silly and fun race in the world of 40K rather than your previous serious armys.

Thanks guys,
Suprised no one has mentioned Chaos marines yet... or is that because they are so similar to Space marines??

Exactly, if you want to play something different to the two armies you currently have then chaos marines are not the answer.

I'd wait for a new Dark Eldar codex that ticks the different and evil box.

Out of that list I think Daemon's would be the most radically different. Orks would be the easiest to do in terms of support (except for chaos) model wise and maybe nids fall into this too. Nids and Necrons are both 4th edition codexes I think so will probably be a bit overpointed and have useless options etc.

Forgot about Dark Eldar...problem is one of my friends aren't so keen to share:confused:
Looking at Nids, Demons and Orks then. Which one is cheapest money wise??

28-04-2009, 10:14
None of them are going to be cheap. If I were to guess I'd say Daemons would be cheapEST...

28-04-2009, 10:16
i reckon orks due to most most modles being plastic execpt special chacters closely followed by nids which are mainly plastic and few odd metal models and demons i would wait till stage 2 for the plastic options due to quite a few metal models at the moment.

there are good deals on tyranids around and hopefully with planet strike they will re-realse some of the great tyranid special boxes which are stupidly cheap :)

I guess i will wait for the new nids come out and check the models... if they look cool i may as well get them, if not most likely demons. Problem is though i have the nid and necron codex from my friends who didn't need them

Well if you go for Daemons, stick em on the square bases and you've got a free WFB army as well. And they are pretty different from Space Marines.

I have Chaos Marines and Necron.. and wanted another complete (non meq) army... A friend proposed to make a combined daemon army. He goes Tzeentch and I Slaanesh. In the end he got he Tzeentch army and my army consist now of everything except Tzeentch... :D
Daemons are very much fun. Strong if handled well but not broken (like lash oblit spam).
The best part is that it doesnt mather who you play the first 10 (or so) battles, you'll mainly fight yourself... Where to drop, what units are counter units of that army and what should I put in which wave.
Last, the fluff is great. You could go for a mono god list, dual god list or just mix everything. Slaanesh is, imo, the hardest mono god list, very rewarding when you fight with that.. and win :D

Ork's IMO
They are fun and different to your other army

With Orks, you can get a load of Black Reach models on the cheap and have a large amount of points for little outlay. CSMs are like a duller version of 5th ed. Marines, so they're out. Daemons will play completely differently to everything else. If it comes down to Orks and Tyranids, go for whatever you think is cooler. Don't go for an army just because you have the codex lying around and feel obligated to use it, as you may regret it down the line and with several hundred pounds worth of an army you don't really like.

28-04-2009, 15:17
How about traitor guard? Yes, it's expensive but it's evil and it's different from both marines and eldar. :)

If you want something cheaper I suggest nids, two battleforces and 1 hive tyrant (from e-bay) and you are sorted! :D

I'm personally a big fan of Chaos Space Marines, simply because the way marks work now, you can never really get bored and if you wanted to, not field the same force twice by mixing up what marks or cult troops you have in your army.

Also, since most every model in the army has high ld, or is fearless, they are pretty forgiving especially for beginners. Also, every chaos marine is equipped for assault as well as shooting, so it gives you a tactically flexible force that you can use to blunt an assault, shoe-horn someone out of cover, or stand back and hose 'em down.

That, and our color schemes can vary from the dour and sedate (Black Legion) to disgusting and unnatural (Death guard, night lords) to loud and vibrant (Violators, Emperor's children).

So my vote goes chaos, because they're the only really 'evil' army per se in the game, along with chaos demons.

I would say Daemons...They have a different play style and if you paint them you can have a spectacular army. A guy on our game club has a Daemon army also for Fantasy as for 40k (with square bases) and since he start paint it, it looks awesome.

29-04-2009, 00:59
not so sure at nids as i don't like playing huge armies aw well as painting heaps of guys, same with orks. Probably go chaos demons or black legion

29-04-2009, 01:02
I'd strongly advise against Necrons. They're extremely underperforming in the current edition, and with them being relatively close to getting a new codex, it would be wise to make a huge investment in the models just yet.

29-04-2009, 01:04
THey are getting a new codex either towards end of year start next year though. Models are retarded as well

29-04-2009, 02:24
I really like the Necron range ... the only things that I think could use a re-disgned are the Tomb Spyders and Pariahs (The artwork in the book looks great, but the pariah models are just a little too stumpy).

I'd say the Warrior, Destroyer and Monolith models are highly unlikely to be replaced. The likely canidates are all the metal ones, particularly the wraiths and flayed ones.

My personal theory (pure speculation) is that the Necrons and Tomb Kings will be released around the same time. It would be very convienant to design both of those armies at the same time, since both of them have the egyptian-undead asthetic going on. It would be very convienant to the design/artist team.
