hi

ive already posted this in another post and rather than push it and end up hijacking the thread ive made another post for this discussion.

has anybody thought about a possible conspiracy? these new forgeworld daemon engine, if they sell enough that may be seen as a green light to begin work on a third chaos book Codex: Dark Mechanicus? (i know writing books and playtesting them takes forever), hear me out, WHFB already has 3 chaos books (beasts, warriors, daemons) we in 40k have 2 (CSM and daemons) this leaves us with the possibility of getting either lost and the damned (unlikely) or forge of souls/dark mechanicus (likely with these new engines)

although i think codex dark mechanicus might be an epic undertaking, for an hq you will have to have a master of the forge type character, 2 or 3 elites, 2 or 3 different troops, 2 or 3 fast attack and 2 or 3 heavies

we already have a start with these new blight drones and slughterers

just an idea isnt it? after all if they sell tonnes of new daemon engines it proves there is a public demand so its only natural a company would want to capitalise on that by releasing a new book full of new stuff

The Imperium already has, what, 4 different faction codices and then a few individual ones regarding certain chapters. I wouldn't be surprised if they made a new Chaos faction, although I would like the Squats to be a faction...angry space dwarves! But I doubt they will make a new Chaos codex, since Space Wolves and Dark Eldar are dying for one.

Doubt it. We'd see a Codex: Mechanicus before a Dark Mechanicus book and it looks like Forgeworld is our best hope for such a list. Even then it doesn't seem like that project is on the horizon any time soon. The next FW book after the upcoming Vraks III is supposed to center on Elysians versus Orks, without even a peep of the AM so don't hold your breath!

Cant really see it happening tbh. I think of daemonic engine stuff being made by minions on daemon worlds under the watchful eye of marines or princes or something. Can't envision an entire army of them its far to specialised an idea.

You could easily do an IG army to represent such a force though! whole host of vehicles to choose from. blight drone = bane wolf for example.

id rather they included the soul-forge/cyber demon stuff in the next daemon codex personally.

if they ever had to release a new army it should be non-humanoid, fresh, new, alien and not have anything to do with humans, chaos or any other already existing faction. period.

Like there isn't enough chaos around there...

GW want to sell models, its a conspiracy! Call the CIA!

Forgeworld tends to release all kinds of random stuff, I don't think it should be taken as indication of GW's mainstream plans for the future, and I think its pretty much established at this stage that an AdMech/DarkMech army will be on the shortlist of possible new races the next time the Design Studio decides its time to introduce one.

@helicon: not sure if your trying to have a go or not so dont, maybe im just reading to much into it but it does seem like releasing 2 new daemon engines could just be to test the water and see what public demand is like before ploughing a lot of money into R&D

Award for most absurd idea goes to the OP! :p

In all seriousness though a new Chaos faction is way down the list of things I reckon GW are likley to bring out. If I had to choose a specfically Chaos codex for them to bring out it would be Codex: Chaos Traitors or something, basically traitor IG (but let's face it, oyu can already do that with the IG codex).

If you look at 40K at the moment you have:

The Forces of Order: Space Marines [I'll include other chapters here too], Imperial Guard, Daemonhunters, Witch Hunters, Eldar, Tau

The Forces of Disorder: Chaos Space Marines, Chaos Daemons, Orks, Necrons, Tyranids, Dark Eldar

Hey look, 6 codexes per side! Admitedly the Forces of Order are mainly Imperial codexes but the Imperium is by far the largest Empire in the 41st millenium. Plus the Forces Of Order are generally to be considered as "The Imperium, when aliens have thought it in their interest to help them" and the Forces of Disorder "Everyone else".

I doubt it. What I could see, however, are extra Daemon Engines being included when the time comes for the Chaos Daemons codex to be re-done. One for each God, two in Fast Attack and two in Heavy Support would be my guess. As it is, both of those FoC slots are a bit barren and could really benefit from some bizarre, techno-daemon contraptions.

Just an FYI, that Tempus Fugitives already have a Dark Mechanicus codex knocked up. ;)

Testing the waters...sure, possibly, but GW know already that it would be a popular choice, everybody knows that. I don't think this in itself is a particularly strong sign of future trends though, like I said Forgeworld release all kinds of random wacky stuff 'just because' and there's plenty of other circumstantial evidence for an AdMech/DarkMech Codex showing up at some point in the future.

Either way, calling it a 'conspiracy' is a hilariously alarmist choice of phrase.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is "testing the water" for interest in other Daemon Engines to be included in a future ForgeWorld army list. As Rampaging Ravenor says, a cult-specific daemon engine for each god, plus various configurations of soul grinders and/or defilers led by Dark Mechanicus and backed up by lesser daemons/traitor guard/chaos marines would make for a fun FW list - but I very much doubt it is part of a "conspiracy" with GW mainstream. At most, we may see the cult daemon engines appering as defiler substitutes if/when Codex: Legions gets released, but I'm not holding my breath.
