For fun as a side project I am considering writing a mini dex for the death guard legion (post heresy). I dont really plan on people letting me use it, but I see it as a fun side project. The idea is to create a mini dex to represent the death guard legion. By this I mean full on cult troops and plaguebearers and those precious little nurglings. The reason I am posting this in 40K background is in terms of fluff, what do you fellow warseers think should be logically included and excluded from the mini dex I create. For example, do you think that raptors and bikers would be an adequate thing to add to a death guard legion list, or do you think that mortarions tendencies would have lent them to be non existant. Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated. As of what I was considering for units for this army.

Chaos Lord
Chaos Sorceror
Daemon Prince
Great Unclean One
Nurgle Cult Terminators (ala same rules as plaguemarines with increased pt cost)
Plague Marines
Plague Bearers
Beasts of Nurgle
Land Raiders

Things I was debating Including, but not sure if the fluff really allows for it
"Plague Marine" Raptors - i feel that even though mortarion preferred a foot assault, he wouldnt have comepletely ignored the effectiveness of these squads
"Plague Marine" Bikers
"Plague Marine" Chosen
"Plague Marine" Possessed
"Plague Marine" Havocs :again, not sure about these, the never really talked about death guard havocs, though if I made these a unit I would allow them to take heavy bolters. I mean cmon, one of the DG's most iconic artworks has a guy carrying it right up front and center!

Looks like a good list but I wouldnt add bikers or raptors, they just dont fit the theme in my opinion, chosen work but maybe with counter attack rather than infiltrate? Posessed work as well but I'd alter the table a bit, maybe giving them slow and purposeful to offset the increased toughness and feel no pain? Havocs are fine but I'd limit their heavy weapons options and let them take four meltas, plasmas or flamers instead.

definitly include some of the gear from the old chaos codex and maybe some of the DG rules

You could easily allow Havocs! Just only allow them to carry special weapons. What about Dreadnoughts?

Here's a question. Do you think obliterators should be included in this fan codex. Technically the obliterator virus is a virus, so could be considered under the purview of father nurgle. But I could also see the argument that the technovirus is a tzeenchian change and not so much a virus as it is a mutation. Do you think I should allow them to be included, perhaps as a 0-1 choice to represent the limited numbers they would have. My thoughts were that if any were to succumb to the obliterator virus it would have been the legions techmarines, but they wouldnt have had very many of them. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

i'd stay away from bikes and jet packs, as these items are very rare in the EoT and hard to maintain when they're NOT rotting and filled with slime and the occasional nurgling.

I just got a mental image of a nurgling wood chipper with that jet pack comment haha.... I think im going to stay away from the bikes and raptors, as I agree they are not very fluffy. I was also thinking of not including chosen. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I feel like the chosen of nurgle would be their plague champions and plague terminators. Do others agree with this, or do you think a unit of chosen would be necessary. To be honest I don't really see nurgle forces inflitrating, they are a little more blunt.

I've been slowly working on this list for a while now. I decided not to include obliterators, as like the raptors, they are a cult. I felt that it was unfluffy to put obliterators into a death guard army. This is somewhat upsetting as using blight drones to represent them would have been awesome. I did this little bit up when I got bored writing up rules... Let me know what you all think!

I have a much larger file if anyone is interested...

careful. gw lawyers have gone after people for less, although yeah id love to see a legion codex (im a death guard player myself)

I would allow Havocs, but maybe change the way they work. Let them take heavy weapon but limit them to maybe 2-3 instead of 4.

Yeah, Havocs should be more about special/assault weapons. Give them heavies, but a limited selection and maybe only the option for two.
