Ok guys here's the obligatory workspace shot. Mine's the top half which (though you can't see it) is liberally splattered with yellow.

I'm currently working on three armies and have a forth buried in a box. The Green skins shamed me once too often, but then the new bikes and trucks do look mighty tempting . . . no must stay focused, three armies are enough to be getting on with.

Here's my 'Fist which I started two years ago . . .

It was going to be a 500pt force to enter with Fold's Tau in the Doubles tournament (That was before they changed the allies rules), it kind of grew and will eventually be the full 5th company with support vehicles, Space Wolf and White Scar allies. (More on those later)

Next is my Daemon hunters which I started (bought the mini's for) ages ago but somehow never got round to painting until recently.

Finally my 'nids. A project I started about 6 months ago on a whim after seeing an awesome (and simple) paint scheme on here.

Close ups will follow. And now onto this months vow: (In competition with Fold's vow which can be found here: http://warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=199728&page=4)

2x Rhinos
2x Vindicators
10x Tactical marines
1 Techmarine
4x Servitors
1 Special Prize (Buying me this was Fold's punishment for failing last months vow)

I recon I'll have a lot to be going on with here. Close ups will follow.

Nice looking armies you have any chance of some closeup's of the Fist's.

03-06-2009, 19:04
Cool stuff. Any chance of a few close up shots of the 'nids?

03-06-2009, 19:08
Thats a hella lot of painted models. You make me feel ashamed at the amount of painted models I have.

03-06-2009, 21:13
I like the look of the daemon hunters force you've done could you possibly put some pics up of the stormtroopers?

only joking...
03-06-2009, 21:18
Looking very nice but as the others have said: close ups!

03-06-2009, 22:02
Nice stuff. Now give us closeups :D

03-06-2009, 22:48

how did you make the snow for the bases?

04-06-2009, 01:22

Cheers for the possitive comments guys. As requested here's a few close ups:

My Captain and HQ:

My Chaplain (Which I recently noticed doesn't have a Fist painted on yet)

My Grey Knight Terminators (One of the most recent squads I've painted and one I'm quite chuffed with)

And lastly my Storm Troopers. These were scratch built and I may do a tutorial if enough people are interested next time I build a squad.

The bases are mostly made out of layers of miliput moulded to look like stone with snow topping. For snow I've used PVA glue mixed with white paint then bicarbinate of soda over the top. The white paint adds a greater depth of white that PVA glue on it's own just doesn't achieve.

Ha ha, yes it is a basil plant, and a sorry excuse for a basil plant too

Close ups from these armies are coming guys. And don't worry, I too despair at the rate at which this mans painted armies grow. I made what I thought was a pretty ambitious vow this month with not one but two tanks on it, but someone has to go and put four tanks on their list. Jeez...

In the meantime, perhaps check out the battle report featuring these Imperial Fists (http://warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=203116) I just posted ;)

OK here's a couple of close ups of my troops. I'm currently working on adding two more Rhino's and another squad of 10 to this, after which I'll have a fully mechanised tactical force!! YAY!!!

Some work in progress shots will follow.

Here are some close-ups of my two dreadnoughts. The first is just a standard one with very little conversion work, just some extra armour, and some free hand work.

The second is a venerable dread I've heavily modified. The front has been made using plasticard, and left over marine bits. The heavy plasma cannon is converted out of a redeamer's flame cannon. The autocannons have been built using leftovers from the predator kit and landraider redeamer kit.

Fast Attack and Heavy Support

Last shots for now of my fists - Heavy support stands at two full devestator Squads, a vindicator and a whirlwind.

For Fast Attack I have two full assault squads. I'll be adding to this with a few squads of White Scars to expand the Crusade. What can I say, I wanted something easier to paint than yellow . . . . wait the only colour more difficult to paint well than yellow is white . . DOH!!!

Very nice - always good to see another take on the 5th Company! What made you opt for the snow theme?

'Nids close up

Here some close ups of my 'Fex. Really quick, simple paint job that looks very effective. I stole the scheme off someone from here as it looks awesome so full credit to who ever that was.

I chose snow bases just because that's what colour our gaming table is. Also the white snow makes really complements the paint schemes I've used .

The 'Fex is magnetised so all it's weapong are fully interchangable.

More 'Nids

To paint these I spray white. Paint white in any gaps missed by the spray. Then I use foundation paints -gretchin green on the plates, calthan brown on the bony/clawy bits and mechrite red on the fleshy bits. Finally I wash the whole thing with devlan mud.

I went for the classic weapons combo on the tyran even though I don't think it's very effective in game terms.

The Broodlord was converted out of a tyranid warrior using a genestealer head. I like it but I think I'm going to have to sculpt some feet as the hooves just don't look right.

The warriors are all armed with devourers - lots of shots! but I don't think these are that effective - any suggestions?

The Vow: Progress today

I was very excited yesterday finding out what my miniature from Fold was going to be. We visited our local GW and annihilated some poor kids army! Then Fold bought me a lictor as punishment for failing his vow. Despite having reports to write I couldn't resist getting stuck in.

Stage one, pin assembly, mount on a temporary base for painted, spray white.

Stage two, rebase as old base was too flimsy (Doh!), then touch up white and paint plates green.

Stage three, paint red.

Stage four, paint brown.

Stages five (Wash devlam mud) and six (make base) have been done but I'm waiting for the washes to dry. Those washes are exceptional but they don't half take an age to dry!

Lictor latest:

Ok here's the final finished lictor. Just a light dusting of snow needed on the base when it's fully dry and I'll be able to cross it off my list.http://warseer.com/forums/images/icons/icon10.gif

Nice tyranids but I must say Wow! Those fists are amazing! I am humbled when looking at my own feeble attempts.

How did you do the yellow?

The Vow

Ok here's how the rest of the vow is progressing. For those of you that have asked about the fists I'll include a brief guide as to what's been done so far.

First I start of by spraying the mini white then I paint with several thin layers of the Vellejo equivalent of Golden Yellow, as shown with this vindicator.

Then I layer over sunburst yellow equivalent leaving some of the golden yellow showing underneath. You can't really tell with this tac squad but it's there.

After that I outline the mini with devlam mud, placing it in the groves and cracks where I want the deepest shading. As shown on this Rhino (One of four tanks I'm painting this month)

More updates will follow!

The vow: - updated

So far I've done 5 marines, nearly finished the rhino and have started the Tech marine. Here they are:

I've had the techmarine almost two years now, needless to say it's about time I got round to it. I'm not 100% sure about the job so far. Any thoughts?

13-06-2009, 14:50
That's a lovely crisp painting style you've developed. The Fists are particularly impressive. Do us some close ups of the Stormtroopers!

Yet another Fists army, awesome.

All your Army's are looking great.

Thanks, I think the photography helps. I'm going to include some stormtroopers in next months vow. I'll include a step by step as to how I make them too.

15-06-2009, 11:53
They all look great! Nice Fists.
But I'm still busting to know how you did the Storm Troopers. I recognise the heads, but I love the shoulder armour. Any close ups?

15-06-2009, 15:24
The techmarine looks a bit orange to me. That may be the lighting though. Orange does make a good basecoat for bright red, if that's what you're going for.

It is just bright red and the lighting makes it look orange. I'm still not happy with the colour scheme though. He just doesn't fit in with the rest of the force.

I've still got three tanks and 5 figures to paint before next Tuesday or I'll fail my vow . . . best get on then!

05-07-2009, 11:43
wow, very very impressive armies, i love the grey knights and the venerable dread in particular. the gold trim on the knights stands out so respendantly and just makes the paint job that much more impressive. The dread is a great conversion too and again fantastically painted!

05-07-2009, 12:21
This log makes me so excited every time I see it updated. I always know I get to see beautifully painted Fists (the best chapter) or beautifully painted 'nids, and I always get to look forward to seeing them in action on a beautiful table against an equally beautiful opposing army. Keep up the wonderful work, you guys are really exceptional.

Oh, and I dunno about anyone else, but I'd love to see a WIP of those stormtroopers
