Hi all. After finally moving in together (Silentsmoke, Alex_H, Wulfenkind) we have begun to constuct the gaming table that we always wanted.

MDF Board (L)2440 x (W)1220 x (T)12mm 2 £27.96
Sawn Kiln Dried Timber (L)2400 x (W)100 x (T)47mm 14 £48.58
Sawn Kiln Dried Timber (L)3000 x (W)75 x (T)47mm 2 £7.60
Hex Bolt Zinc Plated 10 x 150mm 32 £39.36
Abru Mini Bracket (L)40mm x (W)20mm x (H)40mm 20 £19.00
Hex Nut Exterior AVF-852954 Pack Of 10 (W)M10 4 £7.40
£149.90

What you see above is the cost of one 6 x 6 ft gaming table. We plan to have three of these in total.

http://i594.photobucket.com/albums/tt29/silentsmoke13/Randoms%20Krieg/DSC02571.jpg

The idea of the table is that we each want to build a 6 by 6 theme but at the same time it will enable us to combine all three together to make 18 x 6 ft table!!!

The top of the table will be modular so we can chop and change terrain and the like. One end of the table will have space for our painting stations.

We should have the first table built within the next two days as I have not painted for a month and it is driving me mad!! Both the the guys want to stick stuff together and paint!! We are all looking forward to having this one completed.
We will keep this updated.

FYI, I'm planning to build an Ice World table, whilst I Silentsmoke is wanting to construct a Siege table and Wulfrenkind will be building a CityFightBoard.

That table is massive, 3 of them is epic! Looking forward to seeing this finished, but looking forward even more to seeing a battle report for the first battle where you use all 3 tables!

The key to success is making each of the boards transist from one theme to another...if done well the table sounds like it'll be absolutely beautiful!

Can't wait to see the results!

The individual boards will look quite different (mine will be winter based vs the other will be different seasonal) however I expect we will all combine on enough terrain for the epic 18 x 6 table.

However I have found that less is more on apoc sized boards.

This evening saw the three of us get down to some serious wood work. I sat down and measured and calculated all the drill holes required. This was in turn passed on to SilentSmoke (with his shiny new toy) to drill the holes which finally was expertly sanded down by Wulfen_kind.

After 3 hours hard graft the table began to take shape.

40 mins later we had a completed frame, although tempers were beginning to fray.

Since Silentsmoke "won" the fight, Wulfen_Kind had to be the board holder.

With Silentsmoke beginning work this morning at 6am left just WulfenKind and myself to continue work on the table (although Wulfenkind was called into work at 12). Firstly we put the sheets into place to discover that it didn't quite fit which resulted in about an hour of sanding/planing to ensure it fit snugly in.

The MDF sheets are been held in place by the table legs and 5 rests (this might be a little bit of overkill but we want to ensure the table doesn't collapse when we have a number of armies in place)

This are being held in place by a number of L brackets, which resulted in myself having to screw in 120 screws. My right arm is already shattered.

What do you mean working on the table? Using it as a gaming board or making the terrain? Personally I expect the table to be used pretty much most nights for a game of one kind or another / miniature painting (If you look at Silentsmokes personal army log you'll see that he is a RAPID painter)

In terms of terrain, I'd expect some quick work on this as well. I am currently unemployed so my only limit is funding.

Hahaha, you guys seem to be having a lot of fun!

We work as we play. We're a very chilled out bunch of gamers.

It is very solid it supports my weight and i'm not a small guy. As for terrain, I have some ideas. Before I really begin I want to re-watch the TOP gear Polar special for ideas.

Now 120 screws later, 3 bloody knuckles and some gratefully received help from a friend, (Thanks Wolfen)

Not bad for the same monies as a realm of battle board.

The green tiles are from Silentsmoke's old gaming board and show here to be 6ft x 4.

Silentsmoke also brought some display cases for his armies,

This week we have been mostly building and gaming.

Wulfen_Kind has built and finished his space marine battle company. Silentsmoke has been constructing his Reaver (see his log) and I have been constructing my Tyranids. (See my Log)

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/Hodes101/40K/DSC00799.jpg

In between this, Wolfen came over and joined up with the battle company to take on the Tyranid Horde. We decided for the opening battle to christen the table we would have a 6,000 a side Apocalypse game.

Below are some pictures of the deployment showing off the Nid and Space marine hordes. After 7 turns, although the Tyranids were reduced to less than a 10th of the starting horde they were able to hold three objectives to the marines one.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/Hodes101/40K/DSC00815.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/Hodes101/40K/DSC00807.jpg

Other events include a guest coming over and bringing his scummy Eldar army, defeating both the Tyranids and the Dark Angels. Today The Dark Angels and Tyranids then fought a very much a one sided victory game, with the Tyranids being 'tabled' at just the cost of 1 Terminator and 4 Sternguard.

All the while Silentsmoke continued to build the Reaver.

Hi all, I've updated my Krieg thread - Reaver...

PS I yet to play on the gaming table, but I am biding my time..........

Alex_H

Today saw Silentsmoke continue work on his Reaver. Wulfen_Kind built more scouts to expand his bolter squad. I worked on my greening my Hive Tyrant and then went and brought some materials to begin work on my winter table.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/Hodes101/40K/DSC00843.jpg

The evening brought a battle. Silent_Smoke had yet played on the table, but did not want to use his Krieg without his Reaver. So Wulfen_Kind agreed to team up and take on the Nids in another 6000 point game (Red Scorpians and Dark angels combined taking a force organisiation each). We agreed not to make this Apoc, but because of the force organisation charts and inexpensive Nids, I was 400 points short. However the two guys kindly allowed me to take a Trygon to make up the points.

The battle began at 8.30pm and at the time of writing I have just finished my turn 3. (Game is pitched battle/Seize ground I have first turn 5 objectives. 1 in my deployement and the other 4 in the marine deployment zone)

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/Hodes101/DSC00828.jpg

First picture shows the initial deployments, and on seeing the amount of fire power the marines had at their disposal (3 Land Raiders and 2 Vindicators, and a Master of the Forge with a conversion beamer FFS) and seeing drop pods fall in my deployment l I felt I was facing a mountain to climb.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/Hodes101/40K/DSC00833.jpg

Wulfen_Kind had just one objective - Kill as many tyranids as he could and he made sure his Dark Angels understood.

Ok, so its probably about time that I posted on our thread!
So we have now finished the game with Alex_H rolling a 1 to see if we went into turn 7 resulting in a hard fought win for him.
Today saw us playing turns 3-6 of a terribly difficult game for both the Tyranids and Imperial forces. The Major points of fighting being for bunker based ojective in Alex_h's Deployment zone and the two objectives in the corners of mine and Silentsmoke's deployent zone.

Out of TWENTY NINE possible troop choices combined at the beginning of the game only FOUR were left on the table. The notable mentions, both good and bad were:

Imperial commanders forgetting to employ the prometheus comand tank's reserve re-roll thus totally mis-coordinating our attempt to siege the objective in Alex_H's deployment zone.
The Trygon deep striking only to do die under a hail of Sternguard bolter fire before achieving ANYTHING.
And the Vanguard unit getting raped by a unit of gaunts in one round of combat.

The remainder of forces committed to controlling the objective in Alex_H's deployment zone.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/Hodes101/40K/DSC00852.jpg

The winning Tyranids holding the only captured objective and the deciding dice roll.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/Hodes101/40K/DSC00853.jpg

A hairy moment for the Imperials at the beginning of the day and turn 3.

What was left of the Dark Angel meat grinder by the end of turn 6.

I have to admire the time and effort you guys are investing in the hobby. Are you ever going to be able to move that table or will it stay where it was built? It looks v. heavy and too big to get through a door!

The table will be easy to take apart, its only held together with 120mm bolts. What we would do in a smaller house I don't know, and remember we are going to build a second in the near future.

Now after several hours painting and drying I have 12 2X2 foot boards coated in PVA (for strength and protection) ready to go.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/Hodes101/40K/DSC00858.jpg

Whilst this was drying I set about testing how I a going to paint/texture the board sections.

I originally was just going to paint it just using Gloss paint (MIDDLE), however Silent_Smoke gave me the idea to use some poly filler to give some additional texture, (RIGHT) and I also decided to mix some sand/small pebbles in with the paint to see what result I got out (LEFT). First thing I learnt is that cheap Gloss means that I will have to use several coats.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/Hodes101/40K/DSC00860.jpg

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/Hodes101/40K/DSC00861.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/Hodes101/40K/DSC00859.jpg

After viewing the early results this morning I have decided that its poly filler all the way, so after grabbing a quick shower I'm off to coat the other 12 boards.....

aenimosity

Sweet! Progress. I'm looking forward to seeing this board under way.

I can't say that I'm a big fan of the pebbles in the polyfilla. I think it looks just fine without them.

Alex_H
10-07-2009, 15:41
More progress has been made today. This morning I plastered the boards only to discover that 1 litre of polyfiller will only cover 6 boards. I will have to get some more at a later date. At least I have enough to create a 6ft x 4ft table.

So today has been a day for all of us to get on with some building/painting etc. and thats no exception for me. "Today I have been mostly building DEATHWATCH/STERNGUARD". I wanted these guys to stand out from the rest of the DAs 5th Company so I thought that Deathwatch would be fitting as they will mostly be fighting crunchy Tyranids or gooey DKoK! and to use a whole bunch of other wise spare bits they could all be in Mk6 legs, helmets & the pre-heresy breast plates. Im rather pleased with their converted melta-bolter combi weapons, I wanted them to have these after seeing Silentsmoke's Sternguard perform very well against Alex_H's Trygon the otherday...
Here is some pics:

So after a good 36 hours drying I felt that the 6 boards (out of 12) that I have textured and painted were dry enough to game upon. (Especially since Wulfen_Kind was home and wanted a quick 1,500 point game and I felt I would try a unusual army - No Carnifexs or Genstealers.

As you can see I hate gun lines.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/Hodes101/40K/DSC00896.jpg

The game was pretty much always going to be a draw as soon as I rolled Capture and Control. After the game, I felt impressed with the board, its certainly finally proving my theory that my army would look suitably evil swarming across a white background. However we both felt that it felt a little bit odd rolling dice. This I hope will change with a few coats of varnish.

Today I brought myself a skyshield from Cambridge GW after seeing the modified one in this months White Dwarf. I felt it would be a good centre piece for the board I am slowly beginning to construct (and it goes well with all the ideas I have in my head) Also the size is good for our HUGE table.

It also allowed me to finally use the city fight terrain I have had for a couple of months now.

First task was to collect all the bits I needed.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/Hodes101/40K/DSC00904.jpg

Then I began to clean up the city fight tiles and put together the Skyshield.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/Hodes101/40K/DSC00905.jpg

By the end of the evening I had done enough to begin to put sections of buildings together.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/Hodes101/40K/DSC00912.jpg

Whilst this was all going on Silentsmoke began to air brush his titan. But no doubt he will tell all on his private project log.

Right, so today saw another bout for my Dark Angels against the never ending Tyranid Hordes of Alex_H. I would firstly like to point out that a couple of weeks ago another such engagement took place resulting in a crushing victory for me, removing every single on of his models from the board, today's game was not as easily won, but not far off!

Today's game was: Seize ground with x4 objectives with standard deployment.

Victory to me, holding x2 objectives and Alex_H holding none..

Here are some pictures:

The last few days has been busy for Wulfen_Kind. Last Thursday he went and brought some more terrain for our developing gaming table. He treated himself to a Shrine of the Aqulia and on the roll of a 4+ an Imperial Strongpoint.

After several days clipping from sprues and cleaning the mold lines off we have the following results.....

As both Wulfen_Kind and myself were both off today (and that Wulfen_KInd had clean the SafeHouse) we decided to reward ourselves with a battle. We rolled a D6 to determine the number of points, and I rolled a good old 6, so we decided to make it an APOC game but changed some of the rules to make it attacker versus defender and no random set-up zones. (since Wulfen_Kind wanted to ensure that he could use his shrine of the Aqullia to his full advantage) I liked this as I could use some of my big gribblies.

This is our initial deployment. Notice some PDF men being play tested (need to be stripped) helping the Dark Angels.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/Hodes101/40K/DSC01048.jpg

Turn one saw the two Hirodules charge forward, the Sythed killing 7 Sternguard from its Acid Spray, whilst the other had some poor shooting only managing to immobolise the Land Raider. Wulfen_Kinds turn saw a massive amount of fire being shoot back at the two Hirodules, with the Scythed being brought down and the Barbed being reduced to two wounds.

Turn two saw the Barbed Hirodule charge forward, fail to kill anything with its guns and then charge and kill most of Wulfen_Kinds second Sternguard unit. My Screamer killer Brood wiped out a Combat squad and 2 men from a command squad with focused bio-plasma. In return fire from the Dark Angels the last Herodule was brought down on the left flank, and without the cover fire of the two beasts gone my casualties began to mount with the loss of 11 genstealers, a carnifex, two Tyrant Guard and a Zoathrope (and two lictors falling to the sword of Cato Sicarus)

Turn 3 saw a quick interlude before beginning and being the modern gamers that we are, the two of us made Fish Cakes on mash Potatoes with Hollandaise sauce

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/Hodes101/40K/DSC01056.jpg

So after the eating of awesome food, we continued the game for turns 3, 4 & 5.

Turn 3:

Alex_H immobilized a vindicator with a spore mine and pushed back a unit of storm troopers with some rippers who eventually exited the battle after failing to regroup.

I however had much more interesting/frustrating turn. One unit of Assault terminators deep striked off of the table edge and rolling a 3 on the mishap table Alex_H deployed them behind my lines on the table edge. Meanwhile a unit of shooty Terminators sucessfully deployed behind the tyranid's lines only to open fire and REALLY **** off a large group of wing warriors!
Then I managed to wipe out both retinues for the hive tyrants and a unit of genestealers then to lose sicarus in the assault phase to an overwhelhimng horde of 'stealers.

Turn 4:

The Brood lord decided to make an appearance and immediately destroyed a vindicator, a bunch of ravenors deep striked and the group of screamer killers threw up on a bunch of my marines defending the shrine of the holy aquila, they died...

This turn saw my storm troopers finally come into action defending the rear and flanks of my army one unit rapid firing into the brood lord and his retinue wiping them out and putting the gribbly mother F**ker down to one wound.
Another two units of storm troopers fired at the newly arrived ravenors and wiped them out in one fell swoop of las and plasma fire. Finally the assault terminators assaulted a unit of rippers and messed them right up.

Turn 5:

As it was getting late I forgot to keep taking notes, my memory is a bit blury at this point. I managed to wiped out all of the tyranids on my left side of the board except for a carnifex who was assaulting my Crusader and a bunch of Marines died on my right hand side including a techarine managing to blow up his own Thunderfire cannon firing it at point blank range and scattering badly. A unit of deep striking assault terminators mishapped and were destroyed whilst the winged warriors ate the shooty terminators and another unit of terminators teleported onto the field successfully. and I bought down the brood lord whilst a malanthrope ate a bunch of marines and storm troopers.

Turn 6:

What was to be the final turn saw more termintors and space marine vehicles being eaten and, and some nice shooting from my snipers killing the lone genestealer holding and objective on my side of the board resulting in a win for ME YAY!

Final score

Alex_H : 1 captured and 1 contested

Wulfen_Kind: 2 captured, WHOOP!

Overall a challenging game and hard won.

With the 6 x 6 table, do you have any problems reaching the center of the table?

To be honest I do find that sometimes there is a bit of a problem but its nothing that would ruin a game, I think its only really when your trying to work out who is under the pie plates.

Hrnk! house ... gaming table ... so ... cool ... want! :)

Serious though nice job on the table it looks sturdy as hell.

Just one question: when are you going to paint your terrain & boards?

& one suggestion: dont do winter scape it gets old & manky looking very quickly. I'd suggest going for shades of grey city fight style board with some scattered grassy flock/static grass sections (This colouring scheme is an ideal compramise between 40K & fantasy, and is quite hard wearing). Just a thought ;)

Our first massive game on both tables. This is a 16k game with Imperial Guard and Dark Angels versus Tyranids. We decided that the Imperial forces have to protect the "landing pad" entrance to the underhive, while the nids have to get an HQ unit and assault it to enter and win the game. The nids have without number for EVERYTHING and the imperial have to hold off for a weekend or try and take out there sporning point with a Krak grenade!!

The massive game ended in an imperial win, BUT only just. With my apoc explosions happening here and there which cleared all the bulidings on my left flank. The Reaver is NASTY, took out lots of nids, but have issues as it's engineers tried to fix all the failing systems and shields.

A very good game and good laugh indeed!

Unfortunately, its been rather quiet on the posting front due to all of us pushing really hard at work; Alex_H is doing something that involves sitting in a chair all over the country (he's never here).
Silentsmoke is part of the management team in one of the most successful sites of the company he works for.
And I have been promoted to holding manager of my bar which is hugely successful right now in terms of business growth, so I'm pulling ridiculous hours each week. Don't forget that its also the run up to Christmas now, so for people like Silentsmoke and myself who work in our industry, its our busiest time of the year.

However, there has been some progress made, if you check out Silentsmoke's Krieg Log you'll see what he has been doing and I have been working on my
Dark Angels 5th Battle Company which is about 2/3 done now. I will share pistures of that when it's complete, but as things stand with my job I'm aiming to have it completed by the end of January.

In addition a few game shave been played.

Wolfen and I pitched my Dark Angels against his Space Wolves & their shiney new codex with a Victory to him. 3000 a side non apoc Take and Hold.

Wolfen's Space wolves then squished Alex_H's Tyranids. 3000pts non apoc seize ground.

Silentsmoke's 'Guard beat Wolfen's Space Wolves. 2000pts Kill points.

Hi all. After been thinking about this for some time I have started to make my ideal battlefield for my army.

At the moment I have made a section which contains GW craters which I have stunk into the foam. Each section will be based onto a sheet of MDF.

Hopefully in a few days when the PVA glue has dried I can start adding other details before adding texture. The craters have weights on them to keep them as low as possible as the glue drys.

Hi all,
today was a rather unusual day as both Silentsmoke & myself both had the day off with nothing in the way of commitments. Wolfen was in the same situation up until yesterday when he had family commitments were sprung upon him at the last minute. I had arranged with Wolfen to play a game whilst Silentsmoke would be looking to continue work on his board.
With just the two of us around we decided that as we have yet to play against each other since we moved into the Safehouse that his would be the perfect opportunity.
We started off deciding to play a 2000pt game, Guard Vs Marines.
We then set up our board by placing a marker in the very center and one in the middle of each quarter and then rolled x4 D6 and a scatter to determine how far and where the buildings would be from each of the x5 markers, then an additional scatter was rolled to determine its position. Then we rolled x3 D6 and a scatter to place several smaller pieces of terrain from each of the x5 markers. We then rolled for missions which turned out to be Seize Ground with Table Quarter deployment and x5 objectives rolling a scatter and x2 D6 from each marker, resulting in quite a nice table. I then rolled highest and took nominated Silentsmoke to deploy and play 1st.

Turn 1 saw not much happening with the guard moving around a bunch with and infantry squad wondering into the field of fire for one of my trusty thunderfire cannons which then inflicted x19 wounds, totally annihilating them. The only other event for turn one was one of my Venerable dreadnoughts spotting a sneaky unit of infiltrating storm troopers guarding an objective and killing x2 of them with his Assault Cannon.

Turn 2 got more interesting with one of the Vendetta Pilots spotting the storm troopers under fire, and helped them out by firing at the Venerable dreadnought immobilizing it and shaking the crew, my marines failed all their reserve rolls, the other Venerable Dreadnought killed x2 storm troopers from another unit across the board and my ability to guess ranges left me totally thus not using one of my thunderfire cannons for the turn.

Turn 3 got messy with the guard destroying the 2nd Venerable dreadnought with lots of lascannon fire from the vendettas, one of my vanguard units messed up their deep strike and were destroyed whilst the other landed successfully and proceeded to assault one of the x3 leman russes with no effect.

Turn 4, the guard decimated the useless Vanguard unit under a storm of las rifle, heavy bolter and multimelta fire. The combined fire from my remaining Venerable dreadnought and a thunderfire cannon destroyed most of a x20man infantry unit that were sitting on an objective, my x10man unit of shooty terminators with chaplain made it onto the board and fired into the leman russes from behind which had turned around to kill the vanguard unit, they immobilized and destroyed the battle cannons on two out of the three tanks.

Turn 5, the mostly destoyed x20man infantry unit rallied and shot down a marine from a unit moving up to take what was previously their objective. The Hellhound's multimelta destroyed one of my Thunderfire cannons, with the techmarine survivng and charging towards it to punch it in the face.
Another fine turn of shooting from the remaining Thunderfire cannon resulted in the destruction of another infantry unit sitting on an objective and the big mean terminator unit charged the healthy leman russ hitting it with x12 penetrating chain fist attacks, BOOM it went...

Turn 6 saw the death of x2 terminators and some nicely coordinated shooting from a thunderfire cannon and the terminators destroying x2 infantry squads removing them from an objective.

Turn 7 didn't happen as Silentsmoke rolled a 1 so the game ended.

All in all a very interesting game with both sides taking huge casualties but Silentsmoke prevailed with several units of infantry left, x2 holding objectives by either pushing units of marines off of them with the aid of ogryns or some highly mobile firepower in the form of vendettas, he also had x1 contested in the center of the board. I held just x1 objective with a single marine.

We both agreed that it would have been a different story if the terminators had entered play earlier and if the vanguard units didn't suck.

In the spirit of a news years resolution to play more games I played
my first game of planet strike against Alex_H last night. Naturally The Tyranids Attacked and my Dark Angels were defending.
After Alex_H deployed my heart sank as he did not deep strike a single unit and all but x5 of his units deployed on turn 1!
It then turned into a bitter fight with the Dark Angels slowly whittling down the black tide of Xenos monsters with the additional fun of my Crusader turning up from the Attackers drop zone to only be eaten by the late arrival of a carnifex on their turn 2. My x10man unit of terminator's Deep Strike was successful thus providing a second front of fire which helped to take out a couple of carnifex, a hive tyrant and a big unit of winged warriors.
By the end of the game both sides had taken large losses but the Dark Angels won the day with x3 objectives under their control and x2 belonged to the tyranids after a last minute bit of munching and crunching which destroyed most of my indomitable fortress.

It seems that Silentsmoke is also getting into the spirit of playing more games, we decided that we would do a little combat patrol from the 4th edition rule book for a bit of fast action on the uncompleted (but more so than Alex_H's) board.

Looking good, the table is esp. cool. Whats happening with Alex_H's table?

As for silentsmoke looking into new ventures, I'd recomend a world eaters amy as the FW models are awsome (I spend ages looking at mine) and judging by his painting skills could do them justice.

Hi all..NEWS FLASH...

..I have played the most games here this year! The most recent games where against Alex_H but I used Wulfenkinds marines to stand in as Khornate marines.

The next game I used my guard as a Khornate Daemon force. Both games where a 1k points aside with both being objective games.

The dice rolls using Khorne stuff are seriously in my favour, apart from losing a unit of Blood Crushed from a failed deep strike in the second game,

Won both games - Liking both Chaos marines (all Khorne) and Daemons (all Khorne). Going to make some more 1k lists and try different options...

Played Hodes with his new Tyranid list (this was a few days ago). This was 1000pt game, dawn of war with three objectives. I had a some idea of what was new due to studying Wolfens copy of the codex before the game and chat to some other guard players.

I went for a fast nasty force selection - Not going to give reasons (thats my secret which clearly worked). No heavy armour, just transports..

Used Yarrick for the first time and he did his job holding things up and killing them.

I used my two sentinels - still painting them! Amazed how good they were. They were armed with - one with auto cannon and hunter killer missile and the other with a lascannon. Works a treat.

The only thing I would of changed from my list would of dropped a vendetta and take two support sentinels.

Hi all been a while since I have posted on any of my logs. We at the Safehouse have tow new members who are good gamers and very good fun to be around - these two are from warseer and it has been good to play other players and their armies.

I played against Tau - Wicked game (ok I won - again with a slight modified list) but it really got me thinking about how I play which I am now only starting to enjoy.

Hello All,
I should now finally be able to post more as I have just invested in a new PC for myself so that I don't have to use Alex_H's or Silentsmoke's to do anything.
There a couple of games to report on, I actually had a Friday and Saturday off a couple of weeks ago so I played Wolfen's Chaos in a 3000pts non-apoc, kill points pitched battle game. Naturally Wolfen Prevailed, winning the game with 7 Kill Points to my 6 as the game finished swiftly on turn 5 -Emperor damn him!

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s140/WulfenKind27/DSC01569.jpg

The Day after that Alex_H and I played an all out Apoc an a '10x'6 with the idea of me fielding all of my Army, totalling 7700(ish) points. Unfortunately Saturday's off are a real rarity and we did not get started until around 3pm due to looking at big TVs in John Lewis for too long , we played until our eyes bled and adjourned for the day with the intention of finishing on Sunday evening once I had finished work. However Alex_H came down with a nurgle like curse and was unable to finish the game - so I won by default as the game was (I felt) too close to call with up to 3 turns remaining.

Note Alex_H's enthusiasm as he has wanted me to field my whole army for some time...

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s140/WulfenKind27/DSC01570.jpg

So with another Friday off earlier this week I faced Wolfen's Space Wolves, but this time I took a Dark Angels army rather than codex marines as I wanted to field as many terminators as possible, after an interesting discussion on the relationship between our two chapters after their primarch's fist fight being one more of "Spirited Competition" opposed to a "Blood feud" we decided to include the narrative of the battle being more of a Simlation or "Astartes Paintball" the day after the chapters annual get together and "knees up".
So to represent this we re-worked our army lists to include our chapter masters, no tanks and as many terminators and dreadnoughts as possible.
We agreed to deploy with Pitched Battle with our forces starting up to "12 from the table edge rather than the centre, and take all three missions into account, so there were three objectives (the Quad cannons) two bases (Bastions) and kill points to take into account, 2000pts.
We had intended to take notes through out the game to produce an interesting battle report, but that went out of the window as we both got too excited from the terminator on terminator fun, along with anyone trying to capture any objectives.
Wolfen Kicked my ****, with me getting "Tabled" and Wolfen managing to have around 900points still going, it should be noted that it was nearly all characters that he had left, Damn Space Wolf characters are nasty.

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s140/WulfenKind27/DSC01589.jpg

I was really pleased with the way the board layout worked, but every one still wants more scenery, so I have placed an order for another Imperial Sector and another Imperial Strongpoint. With Alex_H Finally building his Imperial City we should have enough now to do a really convincing & dense City fight game (well at least on the '6x'6)...

Only just stumbled accross this (and a certain Krieg thread ) for the first time espite being a regular observer/sometimes poster for quite some time.

Haven't seen you guys since last FW open day and it is coming round to that time again so shall hopefully see you again this year.

What can I say, looks like you are both very happy in life at the moment and I am very pleased for you. My time on the hobby front is much limited in comparison so I am envious lol. Didn't realise you both lived so close (Bought my parents house off them, all but destroyed it and built my own little palace) so realy should see you more often (miss the good ol days).

I only wish I could paint up all of the stuff I own, and do all of the projects I would like to. Maybe one day.

Glad to see you enjoying more on the gaming front. I don't play anywhere near as much as I would like an with the GT final coming up soon and with me playing only once with my GT list since the heats I guess I won't be placing anywhere near as high as last year!

Anyways, good to find a way to keep in touch (If you want to of course), glad to see you are doing so well in life general and hope to see oyu at the good ol FW open day (perhaps I can enter something this year and regrain the painting trophy after a years break lol).

This week I have been mostly building (northfolk accent); BUILDINGS

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s140/WulfenKind27/DSC01594.jpg

Alex_H has finally built the remainder of his Imperial City box, so Silentsmoke and I decided to put it all out with all my stuff to see where we were as far as "Imperialgrad" is concerned, looking pretty good I think.
I'm holding off building the two new bastions in the Imperial strong point until I purchase another bastion so that I can combine the three to produce a super bastion to off-set my Fortress of redemption...

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s140/WulfenKind27/DSC01596.jpg

Unfortunately my new piece of kit turned up today, so I think I might be spending the next couple of weeks watching blu-ray and playing DOW2 on hardest difficulty...

I live with my wife only and while she's mostly understanding to my hobby, ( Even bought me a reaver for my christmas/birthday present! ) She doesn't like the mess terrain building makes. So the majority of the time I do whatever building I need done at my FLGS...Then donate the scenery to it so that others can enjoy as well. Quite nice!

The game was DOW with an objective each.

Wolfen took a VERY good Tyranid army list - infact it was the best tough nid list I have been against. A Trygon survived a whole game! Wolfen says that Alex_H needs to reads the book and take heed of what Wolfen says!

Good, good game, loved the terrain.

I used stuff that I have not really used before - Rough Riders, died Doh, learning curve there!! The Death Strike worked - SWEET!! Most of my infantry was mobile, but I didn't really utilise them enough, so they got gibbed!!

Now to get off of the subject of airsoft (it makes Silentsmoke and myself have VERY bad thoughts of resurrecting the Army of Two).

Yesterday saw the convenient combination of me having a day off and Wolfen finishing early in the day thus resulting in a battle!

I wanted to play Wolfen's Tyranid army after Silentsmoke really enjoying facing it last week.

So Tyranids Vs. Codex Marines.
3000pt non apoc.
Silentsmoke rolled for Annihilation with Pitched Battle deployment.

It felt like Wolfen kicking me in the face repeatedly for a few hours but with the game finishing on turn 5 he only won by kill point (6 to 5). None the less it was a good evening.

The Highlights were:
My x10 man terminator unit proving their undying reliability by destroying a large unit of winged warriors, kicking the crap out of a Tyrant with Guard, then a unit of Ravenors and then setting to work on some more warriors only to be stopped short by the game ending.
Wolfen's tide of Genestealers eating pretty much everything in their path (x2 tactical units x2 thunderfire cannons & their techmarine operators, a command squad, a devestator squad and after being joined by "Old One Eye", my Landraider Prometheus) only to be stopped short by the game ending.
Epic fails:
Devestator unit with x4 H.Bolters & Landraider Prometheus doing sweet ****** ALL!!!

Well it has been a few weeks since our last post, I can assure you that much has been happening; Alex_H has been making additions to his all consuming hoard of Xenos munching machines, Silentsmoke and myself have been painting as much as we can with the time available when not playing BF: Bad Company 2.

In addition there has been a mini tournament going on with Silentsmoke, Alex_H, Wolfen, toonboy78 & Commandojimbob. However all that is far too complicated to explain, except that it has been rather competitive...

Today was a rather odd one as I actually had a full day off of work, and Alex_H was off during the week also. Thus we took full advantage of the situation by playing a nice 2000 point game.
Usual Races, Pitched battle Deployment, Take & Hold.

I decided to try a different army list to my normal unit selection...
Master of the Forge, Chaplain with plasma pistol, x3 Tactical units with plasma gun & plasma cannon, x3 units of Shooty Terminators with assault cannon, x3 ven. Dreads (x1 with plasma cannon, x2 with assault cannons).

Alex_H also took a different list also which included;
Harpy, Warrior Prime, unit of x3 Zoanthropes, unit of Pyrovores in drop spore thingey, x2 carnifex in drop spore, Doom thingey in drop spore thingey thing, big unit of Genestealers in drop thingey sprore thingey thing thing, x2 units of gaunt gribblies and a big unit of flappy gargoylies jigga woobas...

The Result was a draw as I wasn't able to get any units near Alex_H's objective, but the moral victory went to me as I managed to destroy all of his units wit the exeption of an untouched unit of gaunts (guarding the objective) the remains of the other unit of gaunts which were fleeing to the table edge and possibly a drop spore thingey. I lost x8 Tactical Marines & x2 Terminators... :)

competitive.........it has been for the Imperium! wait until i play commando then you will see competitive...xenos scum.

was it a 2k game? did the spore pod pose a big threat...or was it nothing a bolter and chainsword couldn't handle?

19-03-2010, 08:46
I tried a pure deep striking army. Overall I felt unsatisfied with it. The fact that I had to rely on good reserve rolls hurts this tactic. If the pods deployed like them pesky Marine ones, it would be a valid tactic, but because the army arrived very piecemeal it allowed Wulfen_Kind to select the few units on the table and fire everything he had at them destroying them in one turn, before they got to do anything, and then position himself ready for the next pods to arrive.

I was also very unlucky with the DOM. It was close enough to effect 2 squads of terminators, and a 5 man tactical squad, it only caused 1 casualty due to some interesting dice rolling by Wulfen_Kind, meaning that it was then gunned down by too many bolter rounds.....

so overall are the spores worth having? or would they be okay but depend on rolls? im kinda curious cause i want to use some but i dont want to make any incase they arent all that good and a waste of points and money

Unfortunately Alex_H you are not blessed with good reserve rolls - has been your achiles in the past - but great to see you putting those drop spore thingys to use - what a bargain they were too, and will look great once painted !!!

I think your right on the drop spore thingymebobs, that if they arrived like Marine pea pods it would be viable, Nids are squishy especially to focus fire, Nid MCs go down en-mass fire too (Tau S5 weapons > Trygon othernight :D )- but is good you had the opportunity to test it out !

Next list you should try Hive tyrant with the upgrade that allows +1 on reserve rolls, and also a lictor or 3 for pheramone trail - that would vastly improve the effectiveness of drop spongebob thingys - would mean having to start Lictors and Tyrant on board on their own, so tis a bit risky but way more likely to bring it all on quickly and exactly where you want too !!! if you wanna test it against me - that would be fun - got a decent 2000pts list id like to try out :D

I think with select units they are very good (20 strong brood of genstealers comes to mind) however for dropping a Carnifex, I don't think so, unless your certain of facing Land Raiders.

Look at the points to see what I mean

Trygon 200pts.
Carnifex (no upgrades) with Spore - 200pts.

For the same points, both deep strike, the Trygon has a higher WS, I, 2 more wounds and a gun.

The Carni has higher strength and you have another T4 3W MC on the board.

Ok it could deny your opponent from capturing a objective. but it has a gun with only a 6" range, BS2 and can be killed by the most basic of guns!

I keep checking new posts in this thread hoping that it has someting to do with a terrain project log, but it very rarely is. Is it being cross posted from some other forum?

I don't mean to sound harsh or negative by the way, I just wonder if it might be better suited somewhere else? :)

Wulfen_Kind
20-03-2010, 10:15
I think it would probably be more suited to the General logs, The thread got moved to the terrain logs when Warseer re-organised all the logs into different categories a few months back. Need to get Silentsmoke to get in touch with Admin/Mod...

SPACE BOARD... for the win when it comes to my terrain:)
As soon as I got home, I checked the all the bits, then drove to my local B&Q and bought some space board. I have a spare MDF sheet to mount a board on.

The only thing missing from my FW order (well now on back order) are my trench gun crews for both bunkers - as least I can continue with the main work on it.

Right after a couple of hours placing the trenches and some ideas from Wulfen_kind I have come to a funny conclusion....I NEED more trenches!!!!

The layout:
http://i594.photobucket.com/albums/tt29/silentsmoke13/DSC03080.jpg
So this will spread over two boards now, with the rear of it with artillery and the gear. I will have three bunkers in a triangle formation with heavy stubbers covering the trench lines with will be on the other board. At each point there will be a make shift heavy stubber so if a bunker falls into enemy hands they have corridors of fire to contend with.

http://i594.photobucket.com/albums/tt29/silentsmoke13/DSC03079.jpg

Just an idea of how it will look (Another FW reservation list to be done!)

Hi all. After some stressful days I've made some progress on my board. Wulfen_kind is getting through his battle company and they look cool. I have finally done the wrecked rhino and rusted it. I have stuck down part of the cut board and in the process of raising the entire trench system to give the battlefield more of a defined three dimensional look. Will get pics tomorrow or Friday.

Yesterday saw a game between Wolfen & Myself, 2000pts, Eldar Vs. Marines.
Silentsmoke rolled for us to play annihilation with spearhead deployment on a 6x4 board. The Game resulted in a draw (x5 Kill points a piece) after 5 bitterly fought turns of some of the worst "shooting" rolls known to man and alien kind on both sides, and I quote "Statistically, my dice rolls suck"...

Unfortunately I got too into the game to take any good pictures, so here is a bad one...

After The Game, Wolfen and I hid in my room plotting our force to take against SilentSmoke's 20,000pts of DKoK in a week and a bit's time. Looking forward to that one VERY MUCH. In the mean time, Forgeworld open day tomorrow, always a good day out...

Wolfen, Silentsmoke & myself have managed to organise time off work together for a game of epic proportions but 40k scale. The plan is to fight end to end on the full 12'x6' surface of our table with a 20,000pts a side Apoc game for which we have 3 days set aside for. The forces will be Silentsmoke with 20,000pts of mostly Imperial Guard with some DKoK specific units facing Wolfen's Ultra Marines with Ultramar Defence Forces and My Dark Angels.
Last night Wolfen came round and set up a rather nice city which I have taken photos of so that we can remember how it all fits...

I've been following your log for quite a while now. Too bad that all your terrain is unpainted. :P

I'm building a DKoK army right now and I'm thinking about a fitting table for them. So, naturally, I was looking at the FW trench system. Now I've not much seen of them besides some small pics. Ive read somewhere on here that the trench system is a bit of a let down, especially considering their prices, but there wasn't much information or explaination neither. Could you give a small review and detail pics of the trenches? I would like to know what you think about them.

Also: I've seen that the bunker is out of stock in their shop. Is that what you're waiting for? Or is the other stuff out of stock, too?

To be honest, I'm even thinking about scratchbuilding a proper version with more rivets and some hooks and a more modular look. But I'm not sure, yet. So I'm collecting pros and cons.

Anyway, I'm really waiting for more pics of your trench system.
Not just because you seem to be the only one with painted terrain. ;) :D

You would have thought that drop pods can land where they please (with a bit of scattering), and if they land on an enemy unit, then that unit has to perform a tank shock test, if they fail then they would suffer a Str10 Ap1 pie plate hit as they have just been landed on by a super hot ceramite block that weighs emperor knows how many tons that is also full of either LOTS OF GUNS or
10 space marines that has been FIRED out of either a Battle Barge or Strike Cruiser from lower orbit. Dawn of War 2 got that bit sooooo right :)

Speaking to Wulfen_Kind last night Dino - i feel your pain - and those Pods look great !

Funnily enough - reading Silentsmokes Imperial Armour 3 last night (cheers :D ) - Tau Drone Sentry Turrets can deep strike (if they are aided with a markerligh they dont scatter), and if they land on a vehicle, both take automatic Glancing hits - so me thinks for the points, up them to Twin Fusion, and rain these bad boys down on top of your Landraiders and Dreads ! :D

Just a thought - i think i have added some Turrets to my shopping list !

ARMY FIRST, SCENERY SECOND!!! :)

For me the scenery is equipment to play the game so function comes waaaaay before form does... I will get to it, I do have plans, please stop nagging every one. I know this thread is in the "Terrain Log" section, but we did originally create it in the "General Project Log" section which was more appropriate, but it got moved by Admin/Mods a few months ago. So please stop nagging. I want to get more of my Dark Angel Army done before I do any terrain, it takes total priority but I have been rather limited on time due to work and other pursuits...

Right, The last few days have been most exciting as I have been able to hang out with my best mates and play 40k un-interrupted, mostly without distraction and no pressure from time limits etc. The only problem was that I had intended to produce a comprehensive battle report. However that plan for me was to drink beer throughout the game also, so that battle report went out the window...

The General gist of the game was:

In turn 1 Silentsmoke wins the dice-off for the first turn but gave it to Wolfen & Myself, so we thus destroyed his reaver titan and battered a Warhound. with things not looking for Silentsmoke I drove in harder with a full on drop pod assault consisting of x2 Whirlwind Deathstorm, x1 Assault Cannon Deathstorm and x2 containing a 10man Sternguard unit in each plus several units of Terminators. In addition a March of the Ancients formation entered from each side, my one had x1 Techmarine & x5 Venerable dreadnoughts, Wolfen's had x1 Techmarine with x10 Dreads' (Iron Clads, regular & Venerables), Silentsmoke wasn't looking to happy at this point, he then moved his forces forwards in order to make more room for his re-enforcements and deal with the sheer quantity of the Emperors Finest which had just appeared amongst his force.

Basically it all went down-hill for Silentsmoke after that point, as an iron clad caused an already damaged warhound to critically melt down taking lots of stuff with it and the rest of our 15 dreadnoughts caused no end of havoc along with their terminator buddies...

We continued to play for three until turn 7 was done at which point Silentsmoke conceded as he had less than 2000pts on the board, where as I had %90 of my battle company left, most of my armour, my flyer, my (borrowed) reaver and most of my dreads left, Wolfen had his reaver, alot of his terminators and practically all of his armour.
My lesson I took away from this is;

ALWAYS TAKE THE 1st TURN IN A SHOOTING GAME!!!

I'll let the guys add any particular events that stick our in their minds...

A great three days all in all, here are some pictures...

A good excuse to get my whole force (at various stages of completion) out, not all of it was used though...

Wow guys, great stuff! Even unpainted your armies and scenery looks amazing! Keep up with it, each and every picture you show us continues to amaze me, have you ever just set your army up around you and just laughed... or is that only me? :)

I wouldn't mind seeing some detail shots of your armies all laid out in one, that would be pretty cool.

*Edit* I didn't mean all your armies combined, I meant each individual army, sorry for any confusion.

I don't currently have a Log for my army but do intend to start one up once the battle company is completed. Both Wolfen & Silentsmoke both have logs with detailed pictures of their armies...

Great log to read. I agree with your methods of painting miniatures first. I have terrain which is unpainted, but my miniatures are painted first.

Keep having fun and keep rolling in the battle reports.

Will we ever get to see a herophaunt or two on your table?

You could so easily get those buildings sprayed black and drybrushed with some shades of grey in no time! DO EEEET!

Also- you need a bigger table :)

Nagging won't make it happen any quicker, I'll get it done in no time when the army is done?

Have you guys ever calculated the total retail price of all the stuff you own? Not sure if you would want to though.:D

Looking forward to seeing some buildings painted, as well as progress on your armies.

Hi all, been a while. I've roughly planned out the starting of an oil refinery for my ever growing board.

Will be ordering the rest of my trench system next week and some other Krieg stuff..Hmmm blood bowl team coming at the end of the month. I'll do a review of the trench system shortly. http://i594.photobucket.com/albums/tt29/silentsmoke13/DSC03094.jpg
