Please read this post before replying!

Well hello there! And welcome to the penultimate Tale of 40K Painters extravanza. Well done to everyone who's made it this far!

For those of you who don’t know what the Tale of Painters is, look here (http://warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=155584). For those of you who are participating, this is the official thread in which you should post the work you have done in the last month (June). Over the next fourteen days, participants in the Tale should post the work they have done over the last month.

Please don't post anything else in this thread until the 8th of July! Let's have another go at that because I know people can't be bothered reading all this text, I mean it was here last month and some people still got confused. PLEASE DON'T POST ANYTHING ELSE IN THIS THREAD UNTIL THE 8TH OF JULY! Thanks.

Feedback, questions and so on should be posted in the current working thread (http://warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=202610) until the 8th, when this thread morphs into a new working thread. If you haven't posted by the 14th, then you get a joker, at least in theory, though after this long everyone has invested a lot of time and so I can't see anyone wanting to chuck people out at this stage in the game.

If you don't have pictures yet (because of camera problems or whatever) then it's OK to post to say what you've done and add photos later. The important thing is to get the painting done! I know that means that people can lie and pretend they finished something that they didn't, but hey, if anyone gets a big kick out of that then they're welcome to...

For your official monthly post, please try to follow the following guidelines:

You should include a description of each unit you have painted, including the number and type of models, and any upgrades or equipment they carry, followed by the total points cost of the unit. Please, DO NOT post the points costs of individual upgrades or models, as GW don’t like it and so neither, by extension, do the moderators. If you have painted more than one unit, give the total points cost of your monthly painting endeavours.

Next, please post photos of each unit you have painted, and of the army as a whole. Photos should be cropped or resized to around 1000 by 1000 pixels to avoid scrollbars and ensure the thread doesn’t take too long to load.

Try not to overdo the photos. The Tale is about showing off your work, but do it concisely - if everyone posts 13 different angles of every model they paint, that means the whole thread becomes massive and no one will look at any of it. Try to keep your monthly update to one post (6 pictures) and post links to any additional photos you wish to show - or better still, include a link to your painting log here if you have one, so that anyone viewing the thread who takes an interest can take a look and give you some feedback if they want to.

The rest of your post is up to you. You can say anything you like here, about what you enjoyed or found hard, what you were especially pleased with, etc., etc... Feel free to use this post (http://warseer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1870139&postcount=11) as a template for your update.

If you have to play a joker, please post saying so, and include a suitably amusing image. If you do not post within the next 14 days, then (in theory) you will automatically count as having jokered June - but to be honest I think we've all stuck this out long enough to bend the rules as far as it possible in this regard :).

Thanks for reading all that. I look forward to seeing your work!

Sam (McMullet)

POSTSCRIPT

First, an apology from me - I haven't really been feeling highly motivated about painting this month (I have done precisely zero painting so far) and so I haven't commented on everyone's work yet. I also haven't updated the spreadsheet o' what everyone has done so far which I may get around to soon. I do look forward to seeing what you've been up to, and to going through what you posted last month! Now, I should go dig out some Orks...

TOTAL ARMY SIZE: 1886 POINTS

'...the Boneheadz family of Death Skulls once overran and plundered an Imperial penal colony, and wore fragments of convict clothing printed with black arrows for generations afterwards.' - Waaargh The Orks!

BUILD/CONVERSION:
The Deth Koptaz were straight from the sprue.

PAINTING:
Ork Skin: Knarloc/Thraka/Camo
Face: Enchanted/Asurmen/Ice
Teef: Dheneb/Ogryn/Bone
Eyes: Mechrite
Pants: Chaos/Badab/Adeptus Battlegrey
Top: Astronomican/Badab

The first colour is the basecoat, the second is a wash and the third is a drybrush.

BASING:
No basing to do this month - hurrah!

STILL TO DO:
Nothing.

HIGHS AND LOWS:
Highs: I really like the Deth Kopta models, and wanted them with T-L RL anyway, so these models were just what I needed.
Lows: Knowing I now have to paint another 20 Boyz in my last month to finish off AoBR.

Next month, I finish up the Tale with 20 AoBR Boyz...

Give_me_a_d's Daemons

Unit painted this month: a Great Unclean One (160 + 40pts of miscellaneous options)

Total pts for this month: 200pts
Jokers: 2 (January & March 09)
Current Army Size: 1806pts

Construction:
Standard model with the 'no horns' head with horns added.

Painting:
The painting was pretty easy being more or less the same as my Nurgle Daemon Prince from a couple of months ago. For details and PIP see my daemons log

Basing:
The big news this month is that I have done the base for this guy! Basing material was mainly from the 40K basing kit. Again more detail in my log.

Still To Do:
Nothing. The base may get a bit more attention with a couple of little bits of grass and maybe some water FX for a more convincing wet look.

Highs And Lows:
No lows really. The sword didn't come out quite as well as I'd hoped but I am pleased with the rest of him.

Next time on TO40KP...
Either another big daemon – my Lord of Change or finishing the Bloodthrister and something else.... Oh yes and hopefully finishing the basing on everything.

Aenimosity's Red Gribblies

Points this month: 306

Points painted so far: 1557/1500 WOO!

Units: Winged Tyrant and 10 Hormagaunts

Basing: I'll be experimenting with snow bases during the next month.

Still to do: Those little claws that attach to the tyrant's feet, as well as highlighting the tyrant's claws. I forgot that I haven't even primed them so I'll have to do them sometime during the next week.

Horrible photos:
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t317/aenimosity/Flyrant-1.jpg

And an army shot:

http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t317/aenimosity/ArmyShot2.jpg

Highs: Reaching my points target and getting the big fella (almost) finished. Painting twice the points needed for the month. Getting 6 genestealers mostly finished as well. Not having to worry about uni. Had a go at blending on the tyrant's horn and it doesn't look *too* bad.

Lows: Taking such shocking photos. Again.

Next month: I'll try to get the genestealers finished so that the broodlord has the retinue I originally intended him to have. I'll also hopefully have started (hopefully finished) the bases for the army.

jpobrich's Dark Angels

Points this month: 35

Units: Rhino (squad 6's ride)

Still to do: Before spraying with gloss and DullCote, I need to touch up the decals on the sides with a dab of green paint.

This month's going kinda slow, so I'll hold off on the comments until there are a few more posts...

I go on holiday next week, so I'm frantically trying to finish painting the last of my Boyz - only 4 to go! Here's a 'before' shot of my final 20 AoBR Boyz.

Keep up the good work everyone, not long to go now!

lone pilgrim's Blood Angels: June 2009

Unit 1: Land Raider Crusader (Extra armour, hunter killer missile, stormbolter)
Cost: 142.5 points (half total points as only half painted)

TOTAL PAINTING FOR JUNE: 142.5 POINTS

TOTAL ARMY SIZE: 1732.5/2000 POINTS

BUILD/CONVERSION: This is an old school Crusader with metal and plastic parts. I haven't converted the model at all.

PAINTING: I've been putting off posting on here as I hoped I would completely finish the vehicle but it wasn't to be. I ran out of time and paint!

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3512/3710056732_988ec0e12c_o.jpg

Of course it doesn't help that I completely painted the interior before assembling the rest of the model.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2477/3709244333_d37c5e4103.jpg

I tried to hinge the doors which initially seemed to work but then one of the hinges snapped off. I finally had to admit defeat and glue them shut. Alas it means no-one will be able to appreciate the time I took to paint the interior.

I am painting many of the parts separately so I managed to get some red paint on the smaller components meaning I could finish them off.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3479/3709244853_ab0abd6c62.jpg

HIGHS AND LOWS:
Highs: None.
Lows: Not getting the Crusader completely finished.

The other model I hope to finish by the end of July is Lemartes. He will give me the last 125 I need to hit my 2000 point target.

TOTAL PAINTING: 3 objective counters & 30 WE Legion shoulder pad symbols & transfers...

TOTAL ARMY SIZE: 1,800 points

BACKGROUND/THEME: Pre-Heresy World Eaters.

BUILD/CONVERSION: I made three objective counters for my army which were made from a mix of skulls and the WH40K basing kit.

PAINTING: I was hoping to use the BoLS transfer sheets on all my marines - however due to my fairly crappy transfer skills I could only really get them to look good on the vehicles/terminators. Therefore I had to hand paint (:cries:) 30 World Eater legion symbols on my troops...

STILL TO DO: Nothing all done

HIGHS AND LOWS: I put off doing anything this month until today as I was really not looking forward to doing the symbols...However I did all of them this afternoon in one big session and it was not that bad. I was really worried that I would cock up my models by doing the symbols really badly, but I'm really happy with how they turned out.

Another month has come and gone and this month my army total went from 1310 as reported last month to 1290 points. This is dues to a change in the army list, dropping the cost for infantry units. I did get 171 points (new list) done (the models need to get their eyes painted still, and the bronze sections need a wash to be finished - but I won´t have access to the web until afeter the deadline):

http://www.post-neo.com/Varyngr/embitt.JPG
First are the embittered. The lower body was once again a Cadian, the upper section comes from the mounted Chaos Marauders. The berserkers Power Fist is from the DA upgrade sprue and the power bore on one of the models was built from a Cadian flamer with a real dril bit that had broken off recently.

Then there´s this guy:
http://www.post-neo.com/Varyngr/lastone.JPG

- Yes, after several months I finally painted that second special weapon for the last of the Clanguard sections.

And a Rhino (now called a Defender transport in the Varyngr list):
http://www.post-neo.com/Varyngr/rhin2.JPG

Finally an army shot:
http://www.post-neo.com/Varyngr/dualarmyjuly.jpg

I haven´t worked out the full 1.5k list with the new list yet, but I´ll probably add an artillery section.

I´ll comment on everybodys work next week.

UNIT: Dreadnought(Lascannon/CCW) and Predator(Autocannon and HB-sponsons)

TOTAL PAINTING THIS MONTH: 225

TOTAL ARMY SIZE: 1855

SPECIAL

Due to the tale being so fun and me falling in love with my own army(even tho it hasn't seen much battle) I will stick with the army and keep painting it for the next tale! I have a few ideas that I got kinda late and never got around doing, Chosen, Berzerkers as Death company. Bikers, Daemon Prince that looks like Sanginius etc. The army will land on around 3500ish points when I get all the enteries I want done.. And then I might just fill out the rest of the choices for the hell of it!

BACKGROUND/THEME:
Recently fallen Chapter named Descendants of Sanginius that has taken up Khorne as their patron god. A bit more sneakier then regular khorne crazed killers and they actually try to use tactics to win. Doing mercernary work and employing modified equipment to get the job done. The first squad is supposed to represent a more ranged like unit with extended barrels, this second squad is a more melee get stuck in, khornelike unit. Third unit, was supposed to represent a more mid-range unit that was giving fire support.

Started to flesh out the chapter more and more and my symbol will be done soon and applied to transfers. They will be Blood Angels Successor(I already had thought of that) and they will be following a Daemon Prince that will look like Sanguinus, I will also be adding a Death Company using the Khrone Berzerker rules but this will probably be done after the tale. I was going to leave the army at 2000p, but the recent inspiration has made me want to bring them to 3000p fully painted with a few Blood Angelsish flavours here and there!

BUILD/CONVERSION:
I had some help from Bloodsbane(was in the tale earlier), he looked at my Dreadnought and thought it looked too loyalist and had seen some ideas online and start cutting it up. I like the end resualt! Took a bloodletter flag for the dread where the chaptersymbol will go, helm is the nurgle champ helm and the "body" is the backpiece from the chaos-sprue.

PAINTING:
Manged to get sick for a week, so lost some time. Kinda happy I finished in time, but the last month might be a bit stressful!

BASING:
Sand - Chaos Black - Earth - Bleached Bone - Wolfs Gray - White - Grass and snow!

STILL TO DO:
Symbol figured out, need to have it made and then applied to transferpaper! No update yet, but with some luck it will be done for the last update, if not.. I will get it done!

HIGHS AND LOWS:

Highs: Fun getting the the tank and Dread done.. Hm, I really liked assembling the pread.

Low: Alot, First I'm not quite happy with either of them. Not that I'm going to re-do it, but I can do better. My orginal idea for the dread also didn't work out, so Bloodsbane helped me fix it.. But kinda bumped out that my orignal idea didn't work out and that made it go slower then it should go this month.

As for me, I'm jokering the orks and the chaos fleet, so I can go out with a bang next month. But I still have two months of imperial navy left to post, so here's one of them, another lunar class cruiser. That's 180 points more, for a total of 1955 points now.

I'll put in full army shots of them next month, when they're finished. Well, hopefully. Would suck to fail at the very end. :p

Just wanted to jump in for some unfortunate news: my camera prefers to not work properly at the moment. It's doing pictures, but I don't get them transferred to my PC for unknown reasons. This will be sorted out, hopefully soon. Until then: my GUO has already seen battle-action, and did not as bad as I imagined.

Well chaps, apologies for my lack of comments last month, I really have no excuse beyond a sudden and acute disinterest in painting... But I'm feeling the bug once more so I'll kick things off with two months' worth of comments.

misterboff: Deff Koptas are looking good, and there are some nice details on the Nobz. Also - well done on being so quick off the mark again! Good luck with those last 20 boyz.

give_me_a_d: Seems you're nearly as quick as misterboff! That GUO looks great, the mix of natural colours is perfect and the desolate base sets it off very nicely. If you add grass make sure it's "dead" grass.

aenimosity: Good job on the Tyrant! The contrast in texture between the smooth body and the carapace really makes it pop. What's the twin monster devourer thing made of? Good warriors last month too!

jpobrich: Nice Rhino, and the gunner came out really well.

lonepilgrim: I did the opposite to you - glued my Land Raider together then thought - dang, I forgot to paint the inside... Those screens are great though, I guess you'll have to show them off with a densist's mirror and a mini maglite. Good to see the Termies finished too, and the Dread came out very well. I've noticed the same thing as you when it comes to blood red's inability to cover large areas - even over a mix of blood red and dark flesh, it still takes ages. The solution I've found is Vallejo bloody red, which is almost the same colour but covers really well. If you put a layer of GW blood red over that it covers fine.

Jim: Those icons look really good, I actually thought they were transfers. Nice freehand banner on last month's squad too. Good mix of skulls on the counters. :p

susu.exp: Like the dudes with the big hammers. :) Good idea to put the shield on the rhino hatch too.

Häxjägare: Great dread! The conversions are enough to make it look different, but very distinctive. It looks properly chaotic, without the need for it to be festooned with spikes and horns. The termies from last time look class too, the icon is suitably impressive and you have jst the right colour mix.

Discord: Another nice job on the cruiser. I'm just getting into BFG (with Chaos) so I'll have to go back and look at all your entries again. Speaking of which, nice cruiser last month. Good to see the Kult of Speed done as well, I have to do the other half of mine now.

The boyz: They don't look rushed to me! good job. Like the termies as well, the chapter icon and hazard stripes look smashing.

Darnok: Look forward to pictures of the GUO, and details of his endeavours... The WIP from last month looked good (nice rusty sword).

Some more comments from last time...

Jonahmaul: In your own time buddy. :p

Norsehawk: Hope you're feeling better! Good job getting some stuff done (I like the havey bolter guy stood on a big rock, that's pure Space Marines).

Sheena Easton: Shame about the joker this time, love those junka trukks though (especially the chariot wheels).

plantagenet: Still time to sneak in you're out there.

Drakemaster: Good to see you're still in, and if you're happy to count the retouched stuff as current work it's fine by me. Love those old dreads!

Fredmans: Vulture squadron... *falls into Dick Dastardly reverie* Lovely detailing on the missiles, canopies etc.. Almost makes me want to do Epic IG. The coars gravcel on the flying bases looks good, I wish I'd used that on my fighter-bombers now. Look forward to seeing your Nids again sometime soon (no rush).

razormasticator: Good stuff as ever, the army is really taking shape now. Of course what you really need is a squad of Russes to watch your super-heavies' backs...

olean: (Belated) congratulations on your new arrival!

Sheena Easton, kenny3760, susu.exp, aenimosity, Jim, razormasticator, Drakemaster, give_me_a_d, Jonahmaul: MAny thanks for your kind words. :)

@McMullet: I love the all the Epic Ork vehicles - even better as they're Deathskulls! The glyphs are awesome.

Hehe, of course! As a dedicated "skip scavenger" I feel a great affinity with the Lootiest of the Klanz.

@McMullet: I think this is one of your absolute best entries so far. The painting on those fortresses and tanks is ace. I think you have found the right balance between old-school-clan colours and gritty and dirty. How did you paint the red on the Gunfortresses?

Thank you kindly, the red is just Scar Red with thick Bloody Red highlights, followed by the all-over wash of Badab Black and Smokey Ink.

Nothing from me this month as I thought my Daemons were finished and I was pottering about with some Tomb Kings for a change. However I spotted this http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/khornedpandh.htm and thought it would make a really nice centrepiece for the army. So I have asked to get it as part of my birthday early next month.
All going well, barring the almost inevitable OOS at forge world, I hope to be able to complete it through July and post it up start of August.

Wow, look forward to seeing that bad boy! Although the bare **** is a bit unnecessary.

Hey guys, seems like I'll drop out as well. Not too inclined in painting Orks for a while to be honest and I don't have much stuff to paint anyway. So best of luck and maybe we'll meet again for the '09/10 Tale of 40k Painters. Kudos to everyone who's still in. :)

Bah, you and your Valkyrie bandwagon! It was good to have you along for most of the time mate, hope to see your EPIC SQUATS in the next tale (SIGUR HAS EPIC SQUATS EVERYONE, DON'T LET HIM NOT DO THEM FOR THE NEXT TO40KP. IT WILL BE AWESOME).

Hopefully we'll get a few stragglers posting this week.

Well the Khorne Daemon Prince and Herald duely arrived, just as my enthusiasm for painting exited stage left so it's still in it's box.
Hopefully I'll get on the case later this month and manage to get it in, in time for Augusts entry. Problem being I've a 1750 point tournament in September that I want to use my ravenwing in and they need a bit of work....Hmm could always take the Daemons.

I'll get some comments up later on everybody's work, but in general a solid well done for making it this far.

Russes I have. Guys, no joke here. I am asking for leniency in finishing my valk and posting the photos. I am afraid I found out earlier today that a friend of mine had passed away. Whats even more shocking is he was a fellow metalhead, was only 37 and had a 6 month old son and wife at home. I just saw him a few weeks back when I went to the Lamb of God show.
Needless to say I have wake to go to tomorrow and then another engagement in the evening. So if its all the same to you I would like to post my photos on Thursday. I can post a teaser of the interior later on if its cool with you.

Thanks for understanding.

Hi Razor,

Sorry to hear about your friend - I don't speak for everyone, but I certainly do not have any issues with you posting a bit late.

I will be back with some comments in a few days to give everyone a chance to post.

Another nice job on the cruiser. I'm just getting into BFG (with Chaos) so I'll have to go back and look at all your entries again. Speaking of which, nice cruiser last month. Good to see the Kult of Speed done as well, I have to do the other half of mine now.

Ooh, that'll be nice to see. It's a shame the other BFG painters this year quit somewhere along the way. Would've been great to see more of them. If you're interested, I did a daemonship as well. I'm not sure if you've seen it, since I did it outside of the tale. Here: http://www.warseer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2942659&postcount=79

As for me, I think I've had enough of flight stands for a while. ;) Feels bad not to sign up any SG armies for next year, but I already have some, and not a single fantasy/40k army fully painted. :( Speaking of which, I need to go sign up for both with my multipurpose daemons. You're not getting rid of me next year! Mwahaha.

My condolences on your loss. All the best.

To the comments:

First off: A tip of the hat to everybody still going. It´s been a long run and while we´ve lost many, here´s to all of the remaining actually finishing.

misterboff: Nice showing and it goes well with the rest of the force. I do hope you post the full horde next month.

give_me_a_d: The GUO looks really great. If the sword didn´t turn out well, you´ve picked the right angle for the photo :)

aenimosity: Nice work as always. It must feel great to finish early (here´s to hoping I´ll managed that next year).

jpobrich: Looking good, but an army shot would´ve been nice.

lonepilgrim: A sad story and a lot of great attention to detail that won´t show up. If it helps: We´ve seen the interior and I at least like it.

Jim: Lots of nice looking freehands.

Häxjägare: A job well done as usual. The Conversions on the dread really work well, though I wish you told us why the first attempt didn´t work (or what it was).

Discord: The SGs still running. We will get the full dose next month, right?

The boyz: And more Epic goodness.

razormasticator: That´s some sad news. Sorry to hear it, man.

McMullet: Thanks for your kind words. The shield was more of an emergency solution: I had run our of hatches for rhinos, so I used one of the Marine bodies upside down, which left a nasty gap. And the shield was on hand...

A note: The first post lists too many points for the army. Those 171 points don´t go on top of the 1290, they are included in them already. So while I painted 171 points, the cost of the rest of the army dropped by 191 points!

The plan for next month now is removing one Mole Mortar and using its crew to man a Grudgekeeper (which I take to be a larger mole Mortar) adding the necessary shield Command with 3 Mag Launchers. That should bring me to 1.5k and finish the army off (before I add some more stuff to it post tale. I really want another Gunship and a battle tank and some Termites).

Greetings to everyone who made it before the deadline this month. These first couple of months of family life has taken its toll on my hobby time, so I will make one big post this month and one next month. This month will be the final Tyranid post, and next month will be the final Imperial Guard post (with the possible exception of a small Tyranid addition).

I am planning to start out next year's tale with an Epic Inquisition Task Force. If things go really well, I thought I could run a second army (like this year) although a smaller force (3000 points). After an inventory of my armoury (read wardrobe), the tech-priests claim that I can produce a Red Scorpion strike force, an Ork Warhorde or a Squat Stronghold. With some minor additions, I could also probably gather a Lost and the Damned Chaos Cultists force. Seeing that many of this year's participants wlll join me next year, I thought it would be interesting to hear your thoughts (plus I am getting bored by my private councils).

Comments will follow, but a "well done" will suffice for now.

Comments first:

@give_me_a_d: Great GUO, the horns fit in very well with the rest of the model. I like the muted colour pallette too.

@aenimosity: Both units looking good. Your Hive Tyrant looks massive with Wings and a scenic base!

@jpobrich: The weathering is very subtle, and the Chapter/Squad symbols are nicely done too.

@lonepilgrim: That interior is amazing, and I'm sure you'll be able to finish off the LRC by the end of the Tale.

@Jim: All of your Chapter symbols look awesome, they really complete your models.

@susu.exp: That's a whole lot of little people! The Marauder heads work really well, giving them a kind of primitive look.

@Häxjägare: Some good looking vehicles there. I particularly like the Dreadnoughts banner.

@Discord: As usual, great work on the BFG stuff. The amount of detail is very high for such a small scale model.

@The boyz: Nearly half a company in a month again - even for Epic that's a lot, superb work.

@razormasticator: Looking very intricate inside that Valkyrie, look forward to seeing it finished.

As for me, I go on holiday on tomorrow so I've had to get this month's mob finished before I go. I got a bit of an early start on it with only having 3 models last month though, so I'll post my mob now, and save army shots till next months post.

Good luck to everyone in the last month!

You bet! Will be finishing all three armies. Well, hopefully. The navy is already finished, the chaos fleet is on the way and the orks are assembled & undercoated.

Chaos cultists! Fits the task force as an opponent, is quite rare to see and I'm curious what you'll come up with. Of course, it will put my non-converted in progress cult to shame.

Comments time -

misterboff - very quick post this month ;) As I've commited to doing Orks next year and Deffkoptas will feature quite highly I'm looking at yours in some detail. Very nice I must say. Same goes for the boyz. Also thanks for the comments on my GUO.

aenimosity - the tyrant is looking really good, even if the photo doesn't do very much for the wings in particular. The little ones look good too. I quite like the tyrants base as is so I'd say you don't need snow.

jpobrich - your rhino looks good. I think rhinos are often over looked so its nice to see one get centre stage.

lonepilgrim - the landraider is really taking shape, I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.

Jim - the free hand symbols fit in fine and don't stand apart from the transfers so well done. The objectives are good too. I'm doing a couple for my daemons and I hope to have them ready next month.

susu.exp - the embittered are nice. Shame about the points changes effectively meaning this months painting was wiped out. Also thanks for the comments on my GUO.

Häxjägare - I like your predator a lot. The colour scheme works really well on it. The conversion of the dread is very effective. Might have to remember that one when I eventually get my CSM going.

Discord - nice work on the cruiser. Sounds like quite a few people are planning something a bit special for next month so I'll be looking forward to your entries. I know nothing about BFG but I've very much enjoyed seeing your ships each month.

The boyz - for a rush job they look great, nothing wrong there.

Darnok - hope to see your GUO soon. The PIP loked pretty good if I remember rightly.

McMullet - thanks for your kind words. I've got some 'arid grass' on order along with some 'straw' so we'll see what works best.

razormasticator - the valk is looking very promising. I look forward to seeing it finished. Also i'm sorry to hear about your friend.

Fredmans - I'm looking forward to your Inquisition force next year I must say. My vote would be with the Cultists as well.

Having committed to doing 3 armies next time (Daemons, Eldar and Orks - what was I thinking) the Lord of Change will be left over until the first posts in September (250pts is nearly a months worth for all 3 armies!) so the final post in August will be finishing off the Bloodthrister I did half of back before Christmas and a Slaaneshi Herald (a minor conversion of a classic champion of chaos model). I also plan to finish all the basing.

Darnok - hope to see your GUO soon. The PIP loked pretty good if I remember rightly.

Next week I hope. Our camera went off for holidays for two weeks, so I have to get pictures somewhere else. I plan to have a game with a friend this week, so this should do the trick.

On the painting: pretty frustrating it was. Took forever. And I'm not happy with the final result. :(

OK, comments time folks

@ misterboff - could do with some close up pictures but they're looking pretty good all the same, any chance of an army shot? Good luck getting all thosr boyz done

@ give_me_a_d - excellent GUO

@ aenimosity - nice looking gribblies & an impressive army shot, looking forward to seeing the bases

@ jpobrich - very nice looking rhino, very neat & solid colours

@ lonepilgrim - at least we'll know you took the time to do the inside & it looks very good. looking forward to seeing the Rhino finished

@ jim - army shot is looking very impressive & well done for getting all those details done, makes the army look more complete & they're very well done (I still need to figure out an easy way if painting claws on the Brazen Claw army for the next TO40KP)

@ susu.exp - nice looking stuff again, those hammers are very cool. my only issue is that the rhino looks very 'streaky' and not smooth/flat like you would expect the colours to be on a tank?

@ Haxjagare - cool stuff this month & the army is looking very impressive

@ Discord - very nice looking BFG ship

@ The Boyz - very cool stuff again

I am kinda still in the Tale although I've had very little time for painting recently due to work & other commitments but I hoping to get my entries in & then get a final entry next month, means I'll probably need to do something points heavy for the first month of the next TO40KP to get myself back on track

I wish I could have finished the tale this time around with at least one of my armies. Of course, I did over extend myself by initially pledging 3 armies.

At least the next pledge time, I only pledged 2 small armies that won't be too hard to get the point totals.

Hello guys,

First off thanks to everyone who has taken time to comment on my stuff this month - it is much appreciated...

Now, I believe I shall move onto comments of my own:

@ misterboff - very neat painting...Good luck with the 20 boyz for next month!

@ give_me_a_d - The GUO is fantastic...in particular I think it was a great choice to do the boils in the pus yellow colour as it helps them stand out and stops the model looking too uniform...great job

@ aenimosity - The grey carapace is very well done - sometimes I think the red you have is a little flat. but that could be the effect you're going for/photo quality

@ jpobrich - Great rhino - in particular the weathering is very subtle and not overdone and the decals have been applied brilliantly - I could have done with your help for the decals on my world eaters this month!

@ lonepilgrim - The interior detail on the viewscreen is great and I've said before how much I like the deep red colour you achieve - Keep going!

@ Jim - Learn to apply decals you fool! :p

@ susu.exp - The marauder heads work really well on your army - good choice!...I'll second the previous comment that the rhino looks a little streaky...maybe a couple more coats are needed to get a flat colour?

@ Haxjagare - I think both of your entries this month have worked out well - In particular don't be too bummed about the dread as I think your friends help has resulted in a great, unique model for your army

@ Discord - Good work on the cruiser and good idea to joker the others this month to make sure the last month goes with a bang!!!

@ The Boyz - I can't tell that you rushed them - solid work as ever in my eyes

@ Razor - Great looking interior on the Valk so far...in particular the weathering/rust effects are top notch! In terms of posting...maybe you should hold everything back and do a 'monster catch up post' in the last month??? At this stage I don't think anyone really cares about jokers, etc... so don't worry about that...

Looking forward to next month and seeing everyone's final posts/army shots - there may be tears before bedtime as we all say goodbye!!! :p

Some comments:

misterboff - Nice koptas. If you find yourself with some time in the future, I would recommend putting some small Chainmail highlights on the metal. That is all that I ever do on my metal bitz and I find it helps them to pop out a little more.

give_me_a_d - Sick! I am surprised that the orange pustules work so well on the sickly green base. I shall have to remember that combination if I ever paint some Nurgle forces.

aenimosity - I don't know if I have mentioned it before, but your grey/red colour scheme works really well on the table. That army shot really shows a well painted, cohesive force.

lonepilgrim - Since I own one of the old school Crusaders, I can feel your pain with respect to assembling and painting it. Pinning all those bolters made me go a little mad in the end. I look forward to the finished product.

Jim - Those transfers came out quite well, so I'm not sure what advice to offer. The secret to my limited success is a product called MicroSol/MicroSet. Even so, I always have a bugger of a time with the squad markings, so I am slowing moving to doing them by freehand. I like the one assault Marine with the chainaxe - it looks like his enemy exploded all over him!

susu.exp - I might recommend another thin coat of paint for that Rhino. Since it looks like you are doing DA Green over a black undercoat, I have one suggestion. Consider using a basecoat of Orkhide shade before going with the final colour. I do it this way and I find that by doing a thin coat of Orkhide shade and two thin coats of DA Green, I can get a very smooth, even finish.

Häxjägare - That dreadnought looks great!

Discord - Great detail.

The boyz - Well done for this month.

razormasticator - That interior is amazing!

misterboff - Great work on that slugga squad. I plan to do Orks for the next tale and if mine come out as well as yours, I will be well stoked!

Replies:

McMullet - Thanks, I liked the gunner as well. Initially, I thought to paint him in DA Green, but I think this worked better.

susu.exp - Don't worry, the army shot will be coming in the final month.

misterboff - Thanks!

give_me_a_d - Well, my Rhinos always seem to get blown up (smoke launchers be damned) so I figure they may as well look good for the short time they are on the table!

Jonahmaul - Thank you.

Jim - Thanks, and as I mentioned, yours turned out fine.

/J.P.

I think I'm just going to be checking out in the final month with what I can manage to paint by then which should be 1800 points, unfortunately I'm still working on this months stuff & I have very limited painting time for the next few weeks due to a number of work/social commitments. I might try & sneak to extra 200 points in somewhere during next years Tale!

She Who Must Be Obeyed demanded mor time - and who am I to deny such a call? :D

What makes this important for this Tale is the fact, that my planned game got pushed back another few days. And without a camera... more waiting for pictures it is. But in the end, I'm almost done with my goal, and the GUO will finish this years Tale. I'll work on something else next month, but don't know wether it will be finished or not - if not I have a great rolling start for the next Tale! More Daemons it will be, with some CSM for summoning duties.

I hope to see a lot of you guys there, as well as many new faces. :)

@jpobrich: I love the Rhino, really nice work, both with the rhino and the ad-mech crew!:) Thanks!

@Jim: Khorne must be smiling on his throne, very nice work!:). You are probably right about the dread, I might do another one someday and then I will give it more time to finish my orginal idea!

@McMullet: Thanks mate! I'm glad it turned out nicely afterall!

@Susp.exe: Thanks! The first attempt was to put the Khorne head from the spawn-sprue as the pilot head and bulk out the front of the dreadnought.. It didn't turn out nicely! Good job on the converting on your stuff!

@Misterboff: Thanks and Good luck with the orcs!

@Give_me_a_d: Thanks! I stole the idea too, found a nicely convertet dread with a similar idea! Great Uncle Al turned out really nice, I love the subtle yellow in it.

It felt a bit pointless posting the last Tyranid post in this thread, when there is a final contribution thread just around the corner. See you all there...

Note to McMullet: Both my armies will weigh in at roughly 4000. They seem to have been on a diet the last couple of months.

I feel a bit ashamed that I did not manage to comment on everyones work this month, so here goes a short comment spree...

@misterboff: 3 Koptas must have been a breeze after all those boyz. Oh, you are doing boyz this month. And even more next year. Kudos for your blue-skin addiction.

@give me a d: Your painting continues to improve, especially considering you think of this as an easy paint job. The army looks stunning in all its chaotic glory.

@aenimosity: Great hive tyrant. Balrog wings (I presume) work great and that is a clever weapon conversion. Stay tuned for the Epic version.

@jpobrich: I love your vehicles. They are all looking great. Nice, subtle weathering.

@lonepilgrim: Lovely interiors and details. Cannot wait for the finished tank.

@jim: Great job on the markings. I have said it before, that army is full of character. A job well done.

@susu.exp: Speaking of character, your army is not short of it (pun intended). Great conversions (as usual), and a neat paint job.

@Häxjägare: Great additions. Really ties your army together.

@Discord: Nice cruiser (as always). I hope you reconsider a SG force for the next tale.

@the boyz: Another nice entry. Well done of you to keep entering in time (unlike me).

@razormasticator: My sympathies.

That is all for now. Let's make the last thread a bit more romping than this month, but I think this month was a bit of a Tale hangover.

Its with great regret that I am going to have to bow out of the tale. It sucks to have come this far only to have to bail but I really have no choice. I havent picked up a brush in over two weeks, and with the loss of my friend and the final semester of grad school/thesis hell. I just have not had the will nor the time.

I do consider this a sucess though, I got alot done just not as much as I would have liked. We have a great bunch of guys here with tremendous talent. I Am 100% committed to the New tale with the Tyranids I am going to be working on. Thankfully grad school should be over by the end of septembers so I just need to do up some stuff for August for the nids. But I wont be able to get my guard complete.

I did the best I could, but could not finish alot of the things I wanted to.

Ie the sentinels, the baneblade and some choice squads, the valkyrie.
Good luck to the rest and congrats on those who made it this far.

Well, you are far from failing I think. You painted a formidable force, and are only a few points short of your original aim, right? That sounds to me like you painted almost a full army - and definetely a lot of stuff. And that is what the Tale should be all about, right? And with just a little more effort you can add whatever you want to that playable force. All in all an awesome result, and nothing to be ashamed of.

Good luck with the school, and see you in the next Tale. :)

I completely agree with Darnok. Post your army in the final submission tread, and do so without regrets. Glad that you are steamed up about the next tale as well.

I'll second that!
