View Full Version : While we're waiting for 5th Sept - Your thoughts on SH

While we wait for the game to hit the streets I'd like to know what others think of the game.

I loved the Original SH...it was great fun for me and my mates to play on a rainy Sunday afternoon. I think we ended up with four or five sets for some rather large games.

I was pretty good with the Stealers but sucked with the Termies. I don't think I ever won using Termies but it was always a game I enjoyed nonetheless.

When 2nd Ed 40K rolled around I wanted to start a non-marine army and was surprised and delighted to be given a pile of Genestealers to start a Nid army. I guess my bias towards the Stealers had been fairly obvious.

The later supplements also provided Hybrids for my Genestealer cult army :D

SH also influenced my choice of a parent chapter for my 'Souleater' Space Marines. I might have chosen DA, UM or BA but all the cool BA stuff in SH (and the vampire schtick) I decided the Souleaters should be BA successors.

The funky new stealer and Termie models are fabulous in their own right but I'm also hoping that they point towards BA and Nid codexes in the near futures (as has been hinted at by others).

With the Sm from 2 AoBR sets that I ended up with and these guys I will almost certainly be re-doing my Souleaters...they've been out of the loop since 2nd Edition.

So, what are your thoughts in SH, the figures, your old gaming memories?

I adored space hulk! I like it for the same reasons I like blood bowl... The rules are all very simple, there is no measuring thanks to moving on squares and it was incredibly funny to play.

One problem with it was marines do fine untill you play the missions several times and then the 'stealer players get wise and you can never win with marines. This being said it is such a nice game and really reminds me of playing the AVP computer games.

The Figures are awesome, im not a 40k man but I can still appreciate burly supersoldiers in huge armoured suits! I am not a big fan of BA and would have prefered something more generic. (smurfs I think is the slang these days)

The Genestealers are ace! Really dynamic and still have their classic look!

I cant wait until I crack open the box start up a game... Then send my doomed marines chasing that damn C.A.T

I hated it, but I always came back for more!

Psyched. Space Hulk is a bit before my time, but I've read up a bit about it and the rules in the past.
It's gonna be awesome, has beautiful models, and is going to probably be some of the best spent money in a while when it comes to GW products.

I've been waiting for this for ages. I never got into all the other specialist games but Spaehulk was mine, all mine.

I collected a whole first coy of BA termintors for it as well - mainly plastic SH DW & G ones from friends but I had 2 metal command squads to go with them. Good times.

Now to start again!

I loved the original Space Hulk and whilst the revamp looks amazing and the models are sumptuous to look at, the game itself is now a bit pricey.

I am really hype up for Space Hulk, even better it is release on my birthday.

I watch my first game of Hulk (never really see much of it when i started the hobby 13 year ago) & got to say it really capture my image. Just the game I watch it was a bitter blood bath & was a truely classic last stand for the Blood Angels terminators vs Genestealer, battle to the last on the object & none stop move back & overwatch.

The models are truely brilliant, first lots of models I do not wish to convert  Each Terminator being single in look.

A re-run of space hulk is fantastic news!
It will really re-ignite the old GW of years ago,

Dont get me wrong, we all like a big open field battle, but it is really good to be able to fit in a game without having to give up a full Saturday, or have to finish work at noon in order to be able to finish the game before midnight!

SH is a classic game with a lot of scope for tactics.
Its ideal for people like me and my mate, who unfortunatly dont have the endless hours we used to have, for gaming and painting. A couple of games can be squeezed in to an evening, and only 30+ models to get painted to have a fully painted game ;)

I think the price is fine, once bought, thats it, no spending further hundreds to build armies on top of the models you get.

Overall, im always happy to the "specialist games" given some time.
Space hulk is/was a great game straight from the box that will take us back years, and fantastic models to showcase our painting skills.
I look forward to seeing some of the 3D boards that will be popping up over the coming months.

Man o war anyone?! :eek::)

This has been mentioned a few times, but to sum it up:

- If inflation is taken in account so is the 3rd edition cheaper then any of the previous ones.

- The rules include most of the rules from expansions as well.

- The models and cardboard are of much higher quality then previous editions.

So, I find the price grumblings a bit absurd as its a pretty good deal all things considered unless you actualy dont like the game, then its obviously not worth the price.

The Space Hulk video game "Vengeance of the Blood Angels" is the game that exposed me to 40K, GW, etc. The game wasn't that hot, but the backstory and atmosphere was top notch and intrigued me to check out what this whole "Warhammer" thing was. And 15 years later here I am...lol

I've played the board game since that and loved it...I even did some searches on Ebay for used copies of the game, but always held off because of the cost...and I'm glad I did!

After all these years I'm finally going to have my own, revamped copy. I can't wait.

Put it this way - I currently have no job, my money is running out and I have a lot of expenses coming up. But every time I think about Space Hulk I get a big ol' smile on my face. I have a copy preordered from my local indie and I feel more excited about this than I have about anything that GW have done in ages. Roll on 5th September!:D

I am in an almost identical situation.
:p

It's also making me want to watch every film with a claustrophobic spaceship I can find...so far I'm only at Alien, Aliens, Alien 3 and Event Horizon...

Not really the original in 1989 was 20 which is 32.52 in 2009 money calculator (http://www.whatsthecost.com/cpi.aspx)

or even 37.29 using the bank of england calculator to 2008, and I reckon we know whats happended to inflation in 2009 don't we :( here (http://www.bankofengland.co.uk/education/inflation/calculator/flash/index.htm) (I can't be bothered in looking into the calculation differences, 1st one includes CPI, 2nd one is pure inflation I think).

Having said that its certainly worth 60 to me, and really that's what matters :)

Just got my copy of the Space Hulk Novel in the post, but at only 125 pages i'll have to find something else to help pass the time till the 5th.

Anyone else get the email from GW saying there was a mix up over the "dispatched" status of the Space Hulk pre-orders?

Yes Ted, i got that email too.

Probably they didn't want a load of frustrated gamers ringing up mail order saying it hasn't arrived a couple of days later so took some pre-emptive measures.

Yeah I got it too. I AM a bit disappointed about it but it's nice of them to at least tell us what's going on. The long countdown to the 5th continues...

I can't wait to get this game.
