View Full Version : Abomination base size?

After looking through the new Skaven book for a while at the local store, and trying to keep up with through the rumors thread, I haven't seen anything definitive.

Anyone have anything definitive on the base size for the Hellpit Abomination?

There is no model, and nothing is pictured. Precedent is a bit mixed. Although a lot of the newer models seem to lean towards 50x100 (newer giant, dragon, hyrda, etc.) some others, mainly but not entirely older models (spawn, greater daemons, griffins, etc.) are on 50x50.

I'd like to start scratch building one now, but I need the base size before starting.

Thanks!

I'm just gonna hop on the whining bandwagon and go: 20mm.
(I think Skaven will be a fun and varied book to face and play.)
On a more serious note, probably the same as spawn.

I'd guess that it won't be the same size as spawn, since they have 40 mm bases. So 50*50 or 100*50... I kinda tend towards 100*50, but that's just a guess.

As long as it's frontage is 50mm i don't think either 50x50 or 50x100 would be considered wrong until we see some white dwarf conversions to get an idea for it (even though those aren't really correct alot of people will probably expect it to be the same if playing you i think) or a GW official size.

Based on the art work in the book I would say a chariot base would be more than fine for it.

Base sizes is something that GW needs to work on, especially where they are now putting out rules for models they don't make. The part of the book where they give a bit of fluff and go through the rules and stats with a piece of art should have a base size in italics in my opinion, GW has contradicted its self so many times giants and dragons having different bases, i would lean towards the 50x50 if you were going to put it to vote.

I think I'm going to just attempt getting to the source. I've just sent off my first ever question directly to GW. Hopefully I get an answer.

I just want to avoid rebasing issues down the road. Especially if I am scratch/conversion building the thing, since it will most likely be very securely anchored to the base.

 :D

Well, they do come in units of 10+, so I guess that makes sense. ;)

Can it be seen in the internets already?

id say either a 50mm or a chariot base

Ah, the guesswork that ensues when GW creates new rules but no model. Which seems to be for every new army book...

Chariot base, I'd say. And I believe there is some artwork for the Abomination in the book, looking both weird and wonderful. Where's the 3-weeks-early order dispatch mistakes when you want them? =P

What is the unit strength of the bugger?
And doesn't the BRB mention unit strength&base size somewhere?

At the very least it'd serve as a guideline.

Somebody said in the big sakven thread that it had a chariot size base (50x100)...
makes sense since it has very stegadon like stats...

Base size is not mentioned in it's book entry but I believe you wont go far wrong with 50mm

Well, according to the BRB, stegadons come with the wrong bases, and should in fact be on 50x50 bases :)

there is no way you could fit one on a 50x50 base,
(and it was on a chariot base in 5th and 6th edition as well)

the rules also say to put models on the base they come with...

So the answer to my original question would be, "no," then?

;)

Still no answer from GW, either.

all my 3 local GW shops were unanimous in claiming a 50mm square base is fine.

tbh i would give that thing a much bigger base than a 50mm as when you look at them stats its a beast of a creature and for a start when it dies it turns into tons of tiny ratswarms so youd thing its gonna be pretty damn huge.

i put my creation on a 50mmx100mm like people have said its like a stegadon, plus aswell dont you just want to make it the biggest ass thing what looks nasty as hell?

Its literally supposed to be a worm with rat ogre parts grafted on...

Id go with a longer one so 50x100

Personally Im going to make my own base at 50x150 because it just seems that it needs to be really long (or coiled)

Just do what GW dudes did, ro some forge world person

Either size bas would be fine, however i prefer the chariot base, as it would put it in line with other mosters, like the hydra and dragon

So even at GW there's no official base size? Not that I'm that picky -- I just didn't want to use one base, then find out a few months later than I need to change it.
