sorry for the lack of painting updates. i have been taking my time with this squad. sorry for the poor pics. I snapped them really quickly - the lighting is too close and it makes their colors look washed out/overly shinny. Can anyone guess what figure the Sgt is based off of?

Here is the thunderhawk - so far i just have been cleaning it up. I have the crew assembled. I cut up the forgeworld crew and added BA torso's off the DC sprue and gave them some master of the chapter heards. I will post pics when i get the cockpit painted.

For the figure i'm gonna say the old limited edition SM statues they did, as he looks a bit like the DC one.
Otherwise. looking good as ever

Thought it was that Thunderhammer guy. It makes for a good looking sergeant, but in that squad you seem to have one guy playing 'Air Boltgun'!
That Thunderhawk will definitely be something to see when it's finished.

I love how readily you use awesome parts on fairly mundane guys. Using that body for a sarg is just inspired. You've actually broken me of my habit of saving the cool bitz for characters and it's really helped spread character around my DIY chapter.
Thanks.
Also, if you have a pair of lightning class for power armour, I'd be thrilled to get my mits on them.

I had to take a break from painting red so I got a few guys painted from my steel legion / Salamander support force. The steel legion figures are very easy to paint. I swear after painting this much red anything is easy to paint. I built and painted the unit in a few hours. I could probably paint an entire unit 10 in a day if I went at it. I am pretty pleased with the figures though. They are based on the games workshop colors, but I deviated in a few areas and made them a bit darker to suite my style. I want to get all of the Regimental Advisors and give them a decked out Forgeworld Chimera. Let me know what you guys think.
With the limited number of poses you can get with the pewters, i cut off a bunch of Sgt. and Lt. arms and heads and will be converting them with the IG plastic range. the parts fit together well.

Photo with some marines for scale- The steel legion figures are smaller than the plastic cadian and catachan figures, which makes everything look more truescale when they are near the marines

Nice work on the steel legion too, I vastly prefer your version of the colour scheme over the standard GW one, and the conversions are a nice touch! Will you be basing the advisors around steel legion bits or just keeping them as the current models? Also, a forgeworld chimera sounds like a very nice plan indeed!

I havent gotten that far yet... Some friends of mine I used to play 40K just got back into it. Pretty crazy that in the last six months, two groups of friends hit me up after not talking to them in years, saying they got back into 40k. Pretty awesome. With everyone back into the game, it is getting time to get some games in, which will lead to getting some good terrain built.

They are more just a side project to back up the steel legion. For that army, I want like 140 Steel Legion, Most mounted in Chimeras, some leman russes, hell hounds, and some sentinels. Assisting them will be a small group of salamanders, maybe 15-20 figures mounted in transports and a basic predator. I am really projecting into the future with that army, my Blood angel's company is only about half done. But after painting some steel legion as testers, they were pretty fun and dont take long at all, which is good because they take about as much time as I want to budget for a 5pt figure. ha. I want to paint 30 or so steel legion then hop back into the Blood Angels and get the rest of them out.

I havent decided yet on the advisors. I like the master of the ordinance and the fleet officer figures from GW. they would be good just how they are, maybe just add a rebreather and paint them in a more desert color. The Astropath is also a pretty good figure, for him I would do the same.
The body guards are more where I have been throwing around ideas. I could build some out of steel legion parts mixed with cadian stuff. I could get some cool looking figures that way. Or, I was thinking about putting two armageddon ork hunters in there to protect my commander. they would be parts mixed from catachan and cadian command sprue. Imagine cadian with catachan head, close combat weapons, cadian lt. robed legs, and sculpted rebreathers.

Yeah, I understand they are just a side-project but still, I myself is almost done with my Cadian army and will after that do a collaborated marine force consisting of Salamanders (Drop-pod based) and Iron Hands (Mechanized and techy).
I think it's really cool that you keep the astartes support for the Steel Legions small and overall to stay true to the fluff of the 2nd/3rd? War for Armageddon is a real nice bonus :) Looking forward to more updates on that project. Btw, you should get a separate log for it :)
I just realised that the Blood Angels were heavily involved in the second and third War for Armageddon... is there a connection to Armageddon for your Blood Angels as well? :P

My blood angels are 2nd War for Armageddon themed. In 2nd war, the whole chapter was there, where in third, just the BA 3rd Company under Tycho were initially involved.
I definatly want to keep the Salamanders group small to keep with the fluff. Im glad you noticed that was a deliberate decision. i think one marine for every 5-8 IG is a good proportion. And giving them two rhinos and a Razorback will allow them to keep up with the Armored Fist squads and a stock predator with auto canon and heavy bolters will be a nice choice. Their group will contrast nicely with the Steel legion.

Sounds great to me, I love properly fluffed armies :) Are you going for a specific amount of points for the SL/Sallies army in total? I think one sallie for every 5 is enough, maybe less? I mean, that's one Tactical Squad for every 5th Infantry Squad :P

Love the inclusion of the Steel Legion. I think the medic being rather nondescript is a cool touch. Keeps him from getting sniped, I guess.
Good call on darkening the tones; they look too much like cartoons when they're painted 'properly.'
I'm not big on the retconed salamander skin-tone, but the highlighting on it is really well done. I liked it when they were just black dudes.
Quick question: How much do you end up trimming off the bottom of the masters of the chapter's heads?

not sure on the points. I have about 150 steel legion figures total. Im just going to paint as many as I can in between the blood angels.

I usually trim the entire knob off that is on the bottom of the neck joint on the masters of the chapters head.
I like the darker colors too. They are good too because they are quicker to paint than regular GW color scheme.

small update - i have been Decaling my marines and getting all the small touches finished. The yellow company decal really looks great on the red armor.
My huge box of forgeworld stuff came.
Mk6, Mk5, and MK4 along with a ton of the new bolters will be integrated into the rest of my figures. I am also contemplating doing a sternguard unit. They are great in the game and with the new MK5 armor and a mix of FW bolters and a few master of the chapter heads I could make a really great looking unit.

I love second edition metal figures. I got into 40k around 2nd edition and images of the old figures and old packaging always takes me back. I remember when i got into painting, before i knew anything about the game or the fluff, i was torn between blood angels or ultramarines... red or blue. I chose blue but was always envious of the golden armor blood angel characters.
i agree, steel legion are some of the best guardsmen ever made. I have been looking at tallarn figures lately and am pretty stoked on them too.

I started to mess around with my forgeworld armor kits. I really have to compliment forgeworld on these. they are pretty amazing. I inspected all parts and they are all very clean and nothing is miscasted or warped. I am going to use the parts to make a sternguard unit. Much of the other parts will be integrated into the rest of my army. These parts, regular marine bits, and some light blood angels bits will really make some unique marines.
Although I am tempted to make some full MK5, MK4 marines, I will mostly be just using these bits to integrate into my marines through combining them with plastic parts. Just to keep the force uniform and keep them looking like they are all from the same era. I think it would be strange if 50% of my army was mk7 with the current bolter patern, and the other half was a mix of preheresy and mk6 stuff. Realistically speaking, it would be a nightmare for an armorer to maintain ammo and mags for the different bolter paterns and my force being a armageddon 2 era army, I doubt would field a ton of mk5 and mk4.
These kits do open up a lot of possibility for themed armies and I would love to make a heresy era army of all mk4 and mk5.

I actually think that all the bolters are designed to be as interchangeable as the armour marks, so the logistics would probably be the same as I think the ammo and ammo clips of on pattern of bolter goes fine in the others, at least this makes more sense now that the armour is designed with these specifics
in mind, and since the astartes bolter fluffwise is big enough and powerful enough to brake every bone in a mortal man's body if he fires it they are clearly manufactured just for the astartes, and the types used by the IG is a lot smaller and less powerfull. Just my two cents :)

I got a bit of progress on the last Dev marines. I accidentally basecoated one of their helmets with red, so i just kept it going and made a tac marine. The last dev marine will be painted with the first batch of sternguard.

I like fast armies. I just wanted to try painting white. I usually build everything up from a black undercoat but with this figure I started with white, edged him in black ink, and did all the details. This figure took about half the time as a blood angel figure. With so many people buying battle forces and breaking them up on eBay, you can get bikes cheap.
Would be cool to do an army of 2x bike squads, command squad on bikes, khan on bike, 2x tac's with rhinos, attack bikes w/multi meltas and some landspeeders. I would make them all with forgeworld mk6.

Small Update - Here are some photos of some of what i have been working on.
I finally got around to painting Sanguinary guard. I had had these guys built and primed for sometime but just kind of kept them to the side. I was never fully satisfied with GW's out-of-the-box sanguinary guard, so I decided to change what I didnt like. First, as noted before in this log, there will be no angel wings in this force. Jump Packs all the way. So the Winged packs had to go. After looking at them with the stock legs for sometime, I decided to ditch those for FW legs for two reasons, one, they are better sculpted and positioned and two, switching the legs opens up more doors for variations if I decide to get a 2nd squad of them.

What are you going to do the winged jump packs though? Do you need someone to take them off your hands?

I had an idea for a really quick method to painting them and these figures were to test that. I spray the entire figure with GW white, then I edge the figures details with Badaab Black Ink, paint everything that isnt meant to be white with Black Paint, then just go from there. They are super easy to paint and really quick. Starting with white is a bit of a challenge for me, every figure I have ever painted except these white scars have started with a black basecoat and been built up from there.

Aegis is right. its from the scout accessories. I buy the scout pouches on Ebay for cheap and use them on my marines. You can usually get all the pouches, grenades for around a dollar or two. I buy a couple packs at a time.

I got my copy of Forge World's Badab War Vol1 and I have to say it is seriously the coolest forgeworld book yet. The book is filed with background information on the different chapters and a wealth of fluff and color photos. It is really inspiring me to make Huron's Tyrant List. Basically a bunch of renegade marines with imperial guard support.
My huron figure as well as my Character upgrade set are up to par with all of the recent forgeworld marine releases. Very pleased with them. Also included was a Blood Angel Decal sheet and a MK4 dread with assault canon (blood angels)
I started Tactical Squad #4. I didnt plan to do another tac squad, but I felt inspired and I just rolled with it. Got to get that battle company finished.
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e323/ilikebmxbikes/Screenshot2010-10-12at124856AM.png
I love this marine. He is pretty plain to me, but a perfect example of just a regular blood angel marine. Note the FW legs on the figure and how they affect his scaling. I have found with popping a few in between the GW plastic legs, which tend to be a bit squated, the squad gains a lot more diversity and over all looks more proportionate.

With the Sternguard, I myself would go for the whole ten, and then have flexibility with weapons loadout if you would want to drop down to a smaller squad for any one particular game. Plus 10 men would allow you to combat squad in a game.

I also finished the last few tactical marines from squad 4, based and decaled them all.
As I am reading this Badab war book, i really want to build a force from the conflict but cannot decide which. I like Astral Claws (mostly because of Huron as a character), Raptors (always been cool), and also Red Scorpions ( Mostly because of all of the forgeworld kits). Any thoughts? It would be a small force, no more than 40 figures, I was thinking either a Astral Claw boarding party (plenty of mk3 armor and terminators) , a raptors reconnaissance unit (Scouts, mk6 marines ) or an elite group of Red Scorpions built around Loth's Honour Guard (tons of forgeworld).
how easy is he to convert? is the head a separate piece? i'm looking at turning him into a chaos boss...
anyways, great work, love the quality of the red on the dread, similarly huron looks neet,

That's Huron, as in Huron Blackheart? Or Lufgt Huron (something like that) to give him his real name!
That's a pretty cool model, and I don't think he's really lacking in colour too much myself. But to each their own. Seeing as you already have Huron then why now go for the Astral Claws?

how easy is he to convert? is the head a separate piece? i'm looking at turning him into a chaos boss...
hawke
The figures head is a separate piece. You could easily convert him into a chaos lord or any imperial space marine terminator leader. His head, body, arms and iron halo are all separate pieces.
I originally purchased the figure to make a terminator sgt/captain for the blood angels but in reading hte book just decided to make Huron.
Some of the detailing on the figures body is pretty recessed so if you wanted to make a chaos lord, you would have to do a bit of filing or puttYing to cover it up. The only real astral claw detailing on the figure is on the shoulder pad of the claw arm. you could easily trim the claw off and mount it to the shoulder of a plastic arm.

I just might have to do Astral Claws. I could probably paint an entire tactical squad of them in one day. If forgeworld releases Astral Claw Decal sheets, I will probably just have to go with them.

ilikebmxbikes, I got to hand it to you, some of the coolest and cleanest Blood Angels I've seen online. Not as much of fan of the White Scars stuff but I know how hard that stuff can be. My own Angels Encarmine came about partially because of the problems I had painting white.
Your white looks fine but the models look a little plain if I may be permitted some criticism of your otherwise superb work. Maybe some tribal marks on the studded shoulders to break up the white a bit?

i appreciate the feedback. the whitescars were test figures really. I normally start all of my figures with a black undercoat. I wanted to see if I could start with a white base and build from there.
I think I did what i tried to do, but I dont think the results would have been the same if i built it up from black. If i did do an army, I would probably go with a similar process as the blood angels. I would start with black, build up from grey. Some scars might be good to break up the studded pads.
That dread is looking excellent as always. I think Huron looks great, hencolours work really well and it's a lovely model. Great work!

Simply sterling work fella, huron is magnificent! i would love to see you tackle an Astral Claws boarding party, lots of MkIII armour as you suggest. Equally i am sure you would do the other schemes more than justice.
The dread is to your usual high standard and looks terrific as always! top work fella!
As I am reading this Badab war book, i really want to build a force from the conflict but cannot decide which. I like Astral Claws (mostly because of Huron as a character), Raptors (always been cool), and also Red Scorpions ( Mostly because of all of the forgeworld kits). Any thoughts? It would be a small force, no more than 40 figures, I was thinking either a Astral Claw boarding party (plenty of mk3 armor and terminators) , a raptors reconnaissance unit (Scouts, mk6 marines ) or an elite group of Red Scorpions built around Loth's Honour Guard (tons of forgeworld).
is the dread gonna become a red or yellow head?
I play with the same idea for the Badab War!
First I wanted to do Red Scorpions but I can't pull off the color scheme too well..
Bought Sevrin Loth though and will probably use him as a FW Librarian...
I will just wait until Badab War pt 2 is released and then decide on a chapter..
so my favorites so far are:
Carcharodons,
Mantis Warriors,
Sons of Medusa,
Excorcists

the new forgeworld stuff is great. I know it is pricey stuff, but I love it and can make some sacrifices elsewhere in my life to slide some money into a FW fund. haha. if you are not sure about committing to ordering from overseas I suggest you check ebay and get some of the space marine parts to kit bash. a lot of people are buying the FW marine kits and splitting them up on ebay and selling the parts at good prices. the legs, helmets, and new back packs are great to model with GW plastics.

Havent decided on what sponsons yet. I like heavy bolters because the tank will be able to attack before its flamestorm cannon is in range. I like heavy flamers because the tanks main purpose is to get close and burn stuff. taking advantage of 'Scout', the tanks overcharged engine, and the terrain on the board, the tank could get in close early in the game.

Seeing how fast the tank is (and scout too), then you may not have to wait too long before it could fire at close range so heavy flamers are probably higher up than heavy bolters for me.
But really, just take what you fancy and forget about making "viable" units. Just build what looks cool now and then!
Or do as that other guy said and magnetise the sponsons!
Idea number three, take one sponson option and ask for a second Baal for Christmas! Then build that one with the other sponson weapons!

I plan on having three Baal's total. Other than apocalypse, I wont use all three at once, so If i do need to switch sponsons for a regular game, it is easier for me just to switch turrets. i.e. put my flamestorm cannon on my other baal's body etc.

Tanks look great. I'm nitpicking but one thing I notice a lot of people miss are the 4 exhaust pipes for each tank - not many people drill them out. I would suggest getting a bigger drill bit and doing them. Spinning the drill bit by hand will work just fine and makes the overall look complete just like drilling out gun barrels on standard units. Anyway, keep the updates coming!

My first two Predators don't have any magnets but my 3rd is going to. You might think you'll be fine with switching turrets but then one day you're going to want to try out a different list with all of them and with different guns than you glued on. I've only started with magnets recently but would recommend them highly as you never know how the game/codex/you style might change in the future.
Tanks looks good. But IMO not as good as they could :P .
Washes on such a large and flat surface do not give a good effect.
Why didn't you drill the exhaust pipes? :(
But OK, they looks really nice - it's WiP - I'm waiting for finished ones ;)

Thanks! You've got a fantastic army yourself and I hope to build mine up to a similar size eventually.
A flap on top of the exhaust would lift up when the engine is on, haven't you seen a truck or tractor with them on before?
I thionk the holes in the side are to do with either noise reduction, cooling or both. I could be wrong though. Drilling exhausts is a nice final touch though, it looks good in my opinion.

yes I read it =) go for yellow if you will have 3 dreads in total! it will contrast rather well then!
The mantis warriors were my favorite too but for some reason I don't like the new scheme from what I have seen from the badab war pt 2 preview..
Their new color scheme is somehow a hybrid between the bright green of the sons of medusa and the camo green of the raptors...
They are really secretive guys that live in the desert and their leader is a librarian I believe.
The color scheme is a lot more darker and serious now.. they wear brownish tabbards with strange secretive runes on it...
The Excorcists had similar runes on their armour but more like diabolic deamonish ones that looked much cooler.
They also modified the mantis head for the shoulderpad. it doesn't have the yellow circle around the head anymore and the eyes aren't red either and it looks more serious... it pained me to see that they took the nice yellow/green contrast away.
I don't know on which chapter to settle.. I think I will just do sample 5 man squads of my 3 favorite chapters and then decide for the scheme that was most fun to paint!
Maybe I might also create a combined force of several chapters.. like mainly Carcharodons with an elite squad of Excorcists attached or something.

the decal sheet is great. i will admit i was a bit dissapointed when I saw all of the successor chapter decals on there but I purchased it anyways. Upon receiving it i was impressed by the size of it, and how packed with decals it is. its about the size of a standard printer paper sheet. Its a great sheet and definatly worth buying if you plan on having a company size force of blood angels.
my highlights:
Rhino top door decals (2x black, and 1x white- for DC rhino )
3rd company white drops (great for tycho players)
5th company black drops
22x scout sized decals
Small 'script' decals for all of the main characters and captains named in the new blood angels codex.
20x outlined BA Decals. These are great to mix into your squads.
IF ANYONE IS PLAYING FLESH TEARERS /ANGES ENCARMINE / ANGELS SANGUINE / BLOOD DRINKERS AND IS LOCATED IN THE USA, PM ME AND I WILL SEND YOU THE APPROPRIATE DECALS FREE. THE CATCH, YOU HAVE TO HAVE A PROJECT LOG FOR THAT ARMY. FIRST COME FIRST SERVE.

GW corbulo and dante hold up very well with todays miniatures. Mephiston and tycho however are a bit on the small side and could use an update. I purchased a dremel online to grind out my mephiston figure to replace his legs and arms, but it arrived broken and the replacement hasnt arrived yet. im really hoping i can add some robed dark angel marines legs to him for height, lemartes bolt pistol arm with a forgeworld plasma pistol, and a new arm holding his current force weapon.

You're Blood Angels look great as always! And those Red Scorpions are Awesome!

The new stuff is very cool. Have you thought about giving the grey a very thin purple or brown wash? I think grey works a little better with something 'in it' so to speak.
I am using a thin badab black over the grey. brown would probably work very well too.
I really like those characters. I´d add them to my army aswell, but i find them kinda pricy.
forgeworld stuff is pricer than the already pricy standard gw stuff, but you tend to get what you pay for with it. I have been really pleased with their recent space marine kits. i wasnt even planning on doing red scorpions, but the honour guard kit is so great that it inspired me to make a small army around it.
Do you freehand the Blood Angels insignia? I noticed the outline for it drawn on your tank.
its a blood angels decal off the fw sheet.

40k fluff really inspires all of my modeling. I appreciate you noticing the details.

The set is amazing. If you are a red scorpion player, than the kit is pretty essential. either assemble it as its meant to be, or spread the bits out between your sgt's and you can really get some great stuff out of it.
Even if you are not a red scorpion player (i wasnt when i bought it) The set is packed with non-chapter specific bits or easily convertable non-chapter specific bits. With some brass etch or simple filing, you can easily convert all of the torsos, (great for captains) most of the helmets, and some of the shoulder pads. The bolters and power axes come non-chapter specific.
Also note, with the set, you get all of the parts to make a regular GW space marine command squad. you could easily buy the set, and take the bits you want, and sell of the rest of the parts and make some or most of your money back.
There are a few other great red scorpion logs on here. Petay1985's log is really good. I kept going back to his log before deciding to get some red scorpions going. I initially wanted to do the 4th company, but I noticed he was already doing 4th, so now im kinda bouncing between the 3rd company, or the 6th or 7th reserve company. I never really see armies based around the reserve companies so I kinda want to make one. In Imperial Armour 4, the red scorpion force is comprised of only first and sixth company units.
Wow, those Scorpions are simply stunning! Awesome work!! The helmet on the champion gives him so much character!

First a wow those Scorpions are bad ass.
About the Standard, I wouldn´t outline the Scorpion with Gold. How about paintig the Star black? Or just use a dark Red for the Star and a brighter one for the scorpion.

really cool painted gz on that.
Hmmm these are looking good..
regarding the banner.. how about painting the 'star' shape grey or silver.. it actually represents an Iron halo award.. that would provide contrast to the red of the Scorpion..
Fantastic models and painting..
best wishes,
carl
I would paint a fine highlight of blazing orange around the edge of the scorpion, it should define it a bit more :) Nice paintjob on all the figures so far. I'm tempted to get the set now, will have to get a lot of the other models I've got lying around out of the way first. My logs been neglected as I haven't painted anything in a while :/

Your red scorpions are amazing. I've actually been wanting to start my own little army of them using the blood angle rules. haha. I was wondering if you could be so kind as to share how you painted the armour for them. I've never been able to paint grey armour that well, but you've inspired me to try it some more and get it good and pretty. all of your painted models look amazing too. I'd argue that this is one of the best logs here.

The Grey is really easy to paint.
Step 1: Black Undercoat the whole figure -
Step 2: Adeptus Battle Grey the armor
Step 3: Codex Grey Highlight
Step 4: Chainmail all of the joints in between the armor and other silver details (vents, skulls etc.)
Step 5: Badab Black Wash the entire figure.
At that point, most of the figure is already finished and you just need to do the details.
Why are you considering using blood angels rules? Red Scorpions are described as being extremely traditional and adhere to the codex closely. I will just be using the regular codex space marines. The FW characters are also for Space Marine armies.

I am using blood angel rules because when you take a librarian character, you cannot take a command squad or honor guard squad with them anymore in the normal marines book. I also have lots of ideas for converting all the characters and such too.

small update:
got a few more things painted. I still need to do the stormbolter and hatch for the rhino.
the red scorpions force will roughly be based around the below:
Red Scorpions 6th Company Captain w/ Command Squad
Razorback w/ hb
6 man Sternguard Unit (mk4 armor)
Razorback w/ hb
Venerable dreadnaught twin lascanon , rocket launcher
2X 10man tactical squads (6th co)
2x Rhinos
5 Scouts
Predator Annihilator
These are just units I will definatly include. I will add more stuff to make the force more competitive and to bump it up to 2000pts. Loth and his honour guard will be used in apocalypse games. I would like to include a whirlwind, vindicator, or land raider helios as well.

i have started a second terminator squad. they are just armed with stormbolters and power fists with a heavy flamer and one chainfist. I will paint these next and my first company captain Karlean figure.
Sorry if I've missed it but whats going on with the thunderhawk? Have you shelved it for now?
The thunderhawk is pretty untouched. I assembled the front of the ship and painted the crew. I will probably finish assembling it sometime in the pretty near future but dont intend to paint it until I get an airbrush.

I love the masters of the chapter set. You get several great figures that all are pretty convertible and all of the bits are usable to a space marine player.
I have a red scorpions army to, and to achieve the Grey I am using the base you use.
However my question is how are you paint the tanks?
I painted the tank in the same fashion however, when Badab Black inking the tank, make sure you water down the wash a bit more and do it in two coats if you need too. Then I just weathered it like i do with the blood angels. When weathering tanks, I usually keep the metal chips really small and the dirt to a minimum.
Anyone else notice the Captain's holding his plasma pistol with his bionic arm? I think he may have had some plasma related difficulties there....
Your Red Scorpions are looking every bit as great as your Blood Angels. How did you go about painting that yellow?
the yellow is just Iyandun Darksun foundation paint, bleach bone highlight, and ogryn fleshwash was. I then take badab black, and go through the cracks in the tanks armor then weather as normal.
on the rhino i also used masking tape to get the consistant hard lines edging the grey.

I had a lot of time to paint yesterday. i finished the last three tac marines in my first squad and got the dread done. i really like this FW kit.
my plan is to finish the command squad next, then move onto Sgt. Haas's Tac squad and transport.
This force will only be 1500pts and will only include Loth when playing Apocalypse.
Please make any suggestions on my 1500pt list. I am more of a painter these days and would welcome some advice.
Army List:
Captain - power fist, plasma pistol, artificer armour,
Command Squad - Apothecary, Company Champion, Company Standard, Melta Gun,
Tactical Squad 1 - 10 marines, Flamer, Rocket Launcher
Rhino
Tactical Squad 2 - Sgt. Haas w/ Power Weapon, 10 Marines, Meltagun, Rocket Launcher
Rhino
Venerable Dreadnaught - TL Lascanon, Missile launcher
Sternguard - 6 marines, 2x Combi-Melta's 1x Combi-Flamer
Razorback w/ Heavy Bolters
Whirlwind
Im debating to include a second whirlwind or vindicator - suggestions?
And a landraider Redeemer to transport the command squad - suggestions?

Amazing work as usual, what forgeworld and you have done to red scorpions really makes me want to pick a few up and add them to my blood angels company. If I have one criticism it is the front of the Scorpions dreadnought. while very well painted, It is missing something. Have you thought about painting the arches in the front in some manner, perhaps doing some free hand relief or scene in each one. I say this because they remind me of the arches in front of stained glass windows in European cathedrals.

i feel the same way about the captain. Some people called me out a while back because I always arm my captains with power swords or lightning claws. I wanted to do something different with this army, so I equiped him with a powerfist. With this small army I want to make them more of a shooting force than my more aggressive blood angels.
You've done those Dreadnoughts more than justice!

I have decided on getting a land raider Helios. It is not only fitting as it was designed by the Red Scorpions, but it will also be only transporting six models, so the lack of transport capacity is not an issue.
so im leaning toward a Helios, Vindicator, and I will have about 70-90pts left over for either another tank, more sternguard, a few scouts or a tac combat squad.
