corien sumatris looks so bad ass. I want to build all the Badab characters. It's a compulsion.
You have any suggestions on The Exorcists' Salias' mace? I've been racking my brain for decent ideas.

This is THE plog that makes me want to go back to regular scale Space Marines.

I'd like to include a link to it from my new masteroftheforge.com site if that's alright?

i would suggest using some thunderhammer arms or space wolf two handed axe arms and attach a mace from the warhammer fantasy line.

thanks. the sicarius figure is awesome. most of the space marine figures released around that time are amazing sculpts and despite being pewter are easily convertible.

The legion marines are looking good bmx! They're such a nice easy scheme to paint, right? The pads are indeed rather brilliant too, i've got a set of them myself!

It's always good to see other peoples take on the legion marines, and you're doing a bang up job.

thanks - your figures are awesome.

i must say fantastic work.. may i ask how you do the metallic of your astral claws? i'm working on some grey knights and i would like to improve their look :D

thanks

With this army i wanted a quick scheme. I didn't want to paint another army that takes as long as the blood angels. i can paint five astral claws for every BA. I start with a black undercoat, dry brush bolt gun metal, light dry brush chain mail, badab black wash entire figure, highlight mithril silver, and then i take ogryn flesh wash and paint it in the grooves of the armor. very easy.

Apothecary WIP - I wanted to test out the finecast figures to the max. I cut one in half using only a hobby knife.

I love the astral claw icon and their background but their scheme is pretty boring. it lacks the contrast some of the other chapters have. but what i do like, is how fast i can paint them. This is going to be a fun army.

What are your thoughts on converting finecast models?

the fine cast figures are very easy to work with. I literally cut one in half pretty easily with only a hobby knife. I have a lot of ideas for future conversions when they expand their range. Pewter is great but being able to easily and precisely cut off details and parts with only a knife is pretty amazing. I will say there is more clean up with fine cast. of the 10 or so fine cast figures i now own, one or two required a good amount of work fixing small details and filling some air bubbles. Overall, what do i think of pewter vs Finecast?... I don't necessarily think one is better than the other, they are just different. both have benefits and both have their issues. fine cast is easier to convert and can yield amazing sharp detail (when you get a good cast) but pewter seems to be more reliably cast.

Well I followed your guide for Red Scorpions as I stated I would very early in this thread. But it appears to be different..

- Basecoat, Details
- Did the codex grey highlights

However when I apply the Badab Black Wash it appears to mute the codex grey too wildly. I don't suppose you water down your Badab Black?

I tryed a watered down version, and *runs downstairs* it makes the armor appear filthy. :o

Help.

I use a generous amount of unwatered down badab black to the armor. Mine dries very evenly. if you use too little it will streak. if you feel it mutes your highlights, you can either highlight in a lighter color, Or highlight after you wash.

from your photos i can't see your Chainmail highlight. I paint the gold, highlight in chain mail, then wash in a generous amount of ogryn flesh. I then apply a thin layer of badab black edging in cracks. I do not wash the entire area with black, that will result in it looking dirty. If you feel your gold isn't bright enough, as a final step, you can add another thin layer of shinning gold over the wash.

I first paint the area 'Mordian Blue' over a black undercoat, then highlight Ultramarines blue, then wash the entire area with Asuremen Blue Wash.

This is a great log, it took me several days going through it. The Blood Angels make me think back to the glorious days of 3rd edition 40K - the yellow and blue helmets and all the heraldry really shines through.

Your recipes for paintschemes are remarkably straight forward - this is very thought provoking for me and implies I need to take a hard look at the way I paint.

Also, you come across as a nice guy and your 'threadiquette' is great - you respond to questions and requests in a grand style! Thank you for that - not everyone does.

This is seriously awesome man! I havent posted on this site in years. I was reading a post in some obscure painting thread or something (can't remember) and I saw your signature saying, "my Blood Angels." So I checked them out and didn't leave my computer for literally 6 hours. I absolutely love what you did with the Blood Angels, and you are an amazing painter, for serious. And on top of it all, you make use of the FW bitz really well. I love the Badab War books and the Astral Claws too. That is a sweet Sumatris conversion too.

I would give anything to have your money, patience, and skill. lol

I really wish forgeworld stuff was cheaper, I would buy so much of it... Keep up the good work, you have seriously inspired so much in me today!

here is a vindicator I have mostly finished. Its night time here and I had to put lights really close to it which made it look much more glossy than it is. Overall it is coming along nicely. it was originally intended for my Red Scorpions, but after getting back into the gaming aspect of warhammer I realized my BA's needed it more.

Second half of my second assault squad. After these guys, I will only have one devastator and one tac squad to get to full company strength. I am going to use the Gamesday Blood Angel as the final tactical squad leader... might even paint him last to celebrate the last 2nd co marine.

Land Raider Redeemer. I used this in two games and both times it was blown to pieces before it even let out its inferno canons. I think its early death was due to its lack of paint job.

Here is the very very rough body for a mephiston build i am considering. This figure was a pain in the ass to dremel out all of the pewter and will require a lot of greenstuff and plastic details but it has a lot of potential. the figure fits with the proportions of the rest of my force which really was my biggest gripe with the original figure.

No! Don't bring it back! Every time this thread pops up, I want to start Blood Angels! Noooo!

;)

Your fist log has the same effect. You make yellow look so easy it makes me want to try some lamenters.

Might i know how you did the weapon casings on your Astral Claws?

The weapon casings are very easy to paint. I just used Fenris Grey to base the casing, a Codex Grey highlight, and then after painting the metal portions of the gun, Badab Black Washed the entire weapon. It is very quick and looks good. (the white balance is a little off in the photo so the colors do not fully reference the color of the model, see older photos)

Can't wait to see more! Been holding off reading this when it cropped up on the front page of the Imperial plogs as I didn't want to be disappointed if it was just necromancy... But real updates! For 6th ed! Yay! Wonder if we will be seeing fliers, Tycho, allies... What could it be?!?!

I am very motivated to paint and get this army finished.
Some stuff in the pipeline: (In no order)

- Storm Ravens with Chapterhouse Studios extension kits

- Land Speeders
- Death Company Dreadnought
- More DC (I need a thunderhammer or powerfist in the unit)

- FW MK1 Rhinos
- 2nd Dev Squad
- Final Tac Squad w/ Games Day Mini
- More Stern Guard
- Vanguard Veterans

Yay! Real updates!!

I've missed this thread. And when I saw it come back I thought 'this is gonna be amazing!'... Cue 50 shouts of 'yay! Great to see you coming back!' and no updates...

Great to finally see some new stuff and that great list of future projects! Keep it up, you can't stop till you have an entire chapter!!! :P

Only two squads to go until you've got the full company? Go for it! And good to have you back too, nice work so far on the Vindicators and assault marines. Mephiston is looking promising so far.

Wow, impressive, browsing through all 67 pages was worth it and kinda makes me want to make a space marine army of some sort but i must hold that thought until i finish every other army :D I especially love those Salamanders because of my liking of green.

Some stuff in the pipeline: (In no order)

- Storm Ravens with Chapterhouse Studios extension kits Very excited by this as I got a stormraven a couple of months ago, and ordered the CHS kit for it, but it's still in the box until I sort my airbrush/spray gun woes. Looking forward to seeing how you put it together and paint it.
- Land Raider Redeemer
- Land Speeders Old or new? I'm hoping for magnets and conversions!
- Death Company Dreadnought So good under 5th rules, this is something I need to buy myself when I finish my current list, and have the cash!
- More DC (I need a thunderhammer or powerfist in the unit) Hammers, they are so much better looking
- 2nd Vindicator
- FW Mk1 Predator
- FW MK1 Rhinos
- 2nd Dev Squad Any thoughts on how to equip your devs? I'm thinking plasma is going to be quite good in 6th...
- Final Tac Squad w/ Games Day Mini The Games Day mini almost tempted me to go to the event for the first time, but with the travel costs, ticket price and no guarantee the model is included, as well as the feeling that it is going to just be like going to the biggest GW store in the world (ie. very dull after the 1st 5 or so minutes) has turned me back off. REEEEEALLLY want that model tho...
- More Stern Guard
- Vanguard Veterans Oooh! Will they be Sanguinary Guard based? GW VV based? bmx conversions? Can't wait to find out!
- Scout Sniper Squad
- Terminator Sanguinary Priest Mmmmm... 5 assault termies and a priest in a 'raven... Looks vicious on paper
- Mephiston Your conversion is looking great at the moment. So close to the original, but with a subtly different pose. I bet people will do double-takes as they suddenly realise it's not the original...
- 2nd Terminator Squad
- 2nd Terminator Assault Squad Ah, that priests best friends...
- Land Raider Prometheus
- Thunderhawk Transporter With 'ravens and speeders swarming around it, this is going to look incredible!

- Warhammer Table (City) Same log? This sounds like it might deserve its own thread...

It's this log that tempted me into making one of my own for BA. It's nowhere near as impressive as yours, but it is doing a good job of motivating me, and now you're back, I'm hoping for inspiration and motivation from this thread as well ;)

Glad to see you're back in the painting groove. The Vindicator is looking very nice and I like the use of the brass etched parts.

Thanks man. I really like your project log too. Your templars and BA's are awesome. You and I have a similar taste in how we bling out our figures.

Thanks. I have a big list of stuff and will just be chizzling away at it. I will be painting a few things to get my army more competitive first, then I will round out the company then hit the rest of the supporting units. I have most of the models accumulated at my house, so I just need to make time and stay on it.

Just discovered the log. Have to say very impressed. What is happening to the Thunderhawk? Have to also ask how do you paint your banners. They are what you caught my eye first. Wish I could paint as well.

I will be painting the thunderhawk after I finish most of my infantry. It is a huge model and I dont want to use all of my precious red ink up until I know the infantry are taken care of. GW released some glazes, but I dont know if they have anything comparable to the old Red Ink i use.

Thanks. I built one of the chapterhouse ravens yesterday. The kit required minimal clean up and for the most part fit very well. its fitment is comparable to FW but the resin is more flexible so I was able to flex things to fit better. The look of the raven is so much improved. I will be painting this next.

To answer some of your questions in red:
DC Dreadnaught - Regular SM dreadnaught with Blood Angels Furioso arms and bits. He will be armed with blood talons. i am looking to Moriar the Chosen as inspiration.

Landspeeders - New style. I have a few old ones laying around. They are great looking but they weigh a ton and always break off of their bases. Nightmare to game with.

Death Company - I will likely add 1 thunderhammer and 1 power fist to the unit. Thunderhammers are awesome, but the one that comes on the DC sprue has a bionic arm sculpted onto it... I dont want two identical bionic arms/ thunderfists in the same squad. I have to keep them unique. I might look to cutting part of the hammer and adding it to the arms in Space Wolf Grey Hunter kit.

Devastator Squad 2 - 3x Missiles and 1 las canon. It is good to use the Signum on the Las Canon guy as he will hit on a 2+. Missile launchers are great now as glancing hits remove hull pts and they can still penetrate most things. If dev squad rocket launchers get 'skyfire' rules down the road, even better. This will be a 10 man squad and have 5 bolter marines as well to take casualties and kill anything that gets near. With the new rules, squads can partially move, so if a unit deep strikes behind my squad, making my heavy weapons the closest figures, which means they would be removed as casualties first, my tac marines can respond and move to protect the heavy weapons which can remain stationary and still fire.

Games Day Mini - I have to have this figure. I dont care how much it costs, I will buy the first one on ebay that has a buy-it-now. This figure is amazing in so many ways. Having gotten into warhammer at 2nd edition and largely modeling my BA around the first war for armageddon, that figure is too timely.

Vanguard Veterans - They will be a mix of Forge world MK4 assault marines, Death Company Jump packs, BA bits and regular assault squad parts. They will be similarly modeled to my Sternguard but with the appropriate gear.

Mephiston - I want to keep the figure subtle. The figure will be made to resemble the GW one as closely as possible but proportioned to the rest of my army. He is a combination of Dark Angel Legs, Mephiston Body (With Legs, Arms, and head filed off), Lemartes arm, mephiston sword. I will be green stuffing the gaps first, then wiring some guitar string on him to get the cables back. Then I will detail and finish.

Realm of Battle - Desert City - This will probably be in this log. I want to get this made to game first, but then i will use a panel probably to take photos on moving forward. It will be nice to take GW style photos of my army in this log to show progress. I will be putting a lot of time into the gaming table. The Realm of Battle arrived yesterday. I was a bit skeptical about this kit and if i had more time, likely would have made one myself, but upon receiving it, I am very pleased. It is very solid, lines up perfectly and looks awesome. It is huge. I will be filling in all of the stupid skull pits. The extension set is on order as well so I can do a 4'x8'.

iPhone pic of a raven WIP. I have my redeemer turret just sitting on it for placeholder right now. I am debating what to do about the turret.

Options:
FW razorback turrets (Twin Linked Las)

Original Turret w/ Space Marine crewing it. The servitor can be used elsewhere. Really cool modeling potentials with the figure outside of the raven. This option would allow both las canons and assault canons.

Regular Razorback turrets - Twin Linked Las, Twin Linked HB, or Twin Linked Assault Canons

Mmmmmmmmm, that 'raven does look nice. The razorback turret isn't too bad. I'm considering having them magnetised either side of the assault ramp/'cheek' guns. The standard turret does look rather clunky, possibly worse on an extended CHS 'raven. I finally got the adaptor for my spray gun so I might be close behind you on the Stormraven front ;-) Just gotta get a non-humid day so I get less droplets...

The rear hull flexes into position. it is no way as straight as a plastic hull section off the sprue, but it fits pretty well. I am pretty pleased with the kit.

I updated the first post with a table of contents.

I started a few additional Death Company to add a little punch to them in the game. They were a great unit with their old setup but lacked the AP to deal with power armor/terminators and other tough enemies. After making the few additional figures I examined the squad entry more closely and noticed that I cannot have a bolter and the powerfist with the DC. You replace your 'Close combat weapon' with the powerfist. I will have to update the model.

My stormraven is mostly finished. I will have an update with that soon. I played a game with the flyer and although it came on the fourth turn, it was pretty awesome.

Here are some previews of my terrain. This table will largely be modeled as urban desert. I have about six or seven large buildings and a ton of smaller ruins and rubble. I will also be painting palm trees and other details to mix in. I am really happy how the terrain is shaping. I live in an apartment and wanted a table that would be able to be stored so I bit the bullet and ordered a Realm of Battle and Extension kit. The table will be able to be set up as large as 4'x8'. I have been filling in all the stupid skull pits with greenstuff. Once that is done I will begin painting the table.

The terrain will serve a dual purpose. I will be able to game on it, but it will also give me a nice set to take photos and show of my finished figures.

I bought a bunch of 1/35 buildings off of a hobby site. The buildings are larger than the GW scale but they look great and are awesome to game on. I love the size of the building. They are really easy to get your figures in and out of. Most of them are resin or a hard plaster. I glued them together with a hot glue gun and they are very solid. The plaster is also easy to drill little bullet holes or add damage to. I have assembled about 1/3 of the buildings and will have photos once i get everything base coated and start to apply paint. I chose these buildings over the GW ones because they are more realistic looking and are way less of a hassle to build. I have had the GW buildings in the past and they took forever to trim and build everything. These literally took 20 minutes a building including clean up. I do want to get some GW Imperial Bastions, Aegis defense lines, Landing pad, and the GW building with the huge eagle (to attach onto one of these buildings)

I only dilute paints once they begin to get sludgy. The new GW Lahaim medium has been great. I just add a drop or two to my paint pots when they begin to thicken and it usually does the trick. The real trick to my blood angels is that I use old citadel Red Ink instead of Baal Wash or the new red wash. The inks apply differently and are shinny where the washes are dull and pool into recesses.

I really like the chapter house kit. The lengthened raven really looks better and more believable. I originally had a razorback turret on mine but chose to just put the regular turret back on but I used a space marine crewman instead of the servitor. I am going to save the servitor bits to use later.

I would love to see a full spacewolf battle company. From looking at your spacewolf log, the painting standard is there, all you got to do is hold that standard and keep painting. Our armies would look good on the same table.

I know... I will enter the next one. You gotta come over and play the first city fight game with the new terrain. I worked on terrain pretty much all this weekend. The table should be mostly done by the next game.

Here is an update of some of my terrain progress. These nearly finished pieces convey the look an feel I am going for with this table. It also showcases some of the possibilities I can use it for when showing my finished models. Do note, If i decide to show my progress more in a 'dioramic' style, I will take more time to do the lights and include a backdrop. I just snapped these in 10 minutes.

And I love the shot of the Stormraven diving towards those Guardsmen, very dynamic!

Those building looks awesome, 1/35 is usually the scale most suited for GW imo so good choice :D

Are the buildings from Verlinden?? If so you've managed to pick the former masters of resin casting, they were big before Forge world was ever even being considered :D

All the other stuff are awesome as well, and I suppose you're not airbrushing those lovely vehichles so thumps up for being more patient than most (including me)

nice stuff, what's the recipe on your Steel Legion? I have a pretty big SL army, which are in need of a serious repaint, and I'm liking your colour scheme.
I forgot the recipe. I may have it somewhere in this log. I remember it being very simple and consisting of mainly a foundation, a highlight and then just a wash. I have a ton of those guys and do not want to invest the same time in them as i do with the blood angels but i want a good enough standard so they could be on the table together.

That lighting setup gives you a wonderful source for your pictures, can you tell me what your setup is?

Thanks
just some cheap ikea lights. i will be putting in some brighter/ less orange bulbs in them.

i got this guy last week off ebay. i am grateful i got a really good cast. very little clean up. I hadnt seen any photos of the figure on line other than the GW released ones so I thought i would show it before i begin my work.

He was released at US Gamesday. He popped up on ebay while the US gamesday was going on and I jumped on the sale. There are a lot on ebay right now and prices vary. For getting one of the first ones online I got it cheaper than most are selling.

Below are my recipes. These are the old colours. You will need to switch to the equivalent in the new paint range. With Allies in the new rules, I will be able to add some steel legion to games without having to commit to painting an entire army before they hit the table. I will probably be starting them up again and trying to get a full platoon done. They are really awesome models.

Steel Legion Cloak
-Black Undercoat
-Dark Brown Foundation
-Bleached Bone Highlight
-Ogryn Fleshwash entire coat
-Black wash deep recesses

Astral Claws Armour
-Black Undercoat
-Heavy Drybrush of Boltgun Metal
-Light Drybrush raised areas with Chainmail
-Edge Highlight with Mithril Silver
-Black Wash Entire Figure
-Ogryn Flesh wash details and cracks between armour

yeah, they look ok, but their age is beginning to show especially compared to my renegade guard army, so repaints are in order. Urgh, the trees. Super expensive, and took about 2 years to accumulate. The do look good, but they shed like crazy. As for the tables, I'm taking the plunge when I get home, and picking up some ping pong tables, and working from there.

yes man. its been a great industry to work it. it always changes and i have gotten to travel a ton. i used to work 50% from home, which was why i could afford so much time to update this log, but for the past nine months i have been onsite doing post work. my painting time has seriously shrunk from ~3 hours a day to a mere 1 hour.... maybe 2...

They are some cheap chinese jungle trees I bought on ebay. They took like 3 weeks to get to the states but they were really cheap. I think after shipping I spent less than $50 and have enough trees to full jungle out my board if I want. I have six times more trees than what you see in the photos. These are much cheaper than the GW, Pegasus and other trees I was looking at. I am really happy with them and after I get them all painted, I may place another order if I feel I need more.

I havent magnetized anything on my army. It is all glued on.. I may magnetize my thunderhawk transporter though. I bet the turret would be easy to magnetize the other options but the nose weapon may only allow you two options, the MM or HB, and the rocket launcher.

7150 and I teamed up against Pete's Tyranids for a 4k point game. It was a really good game. Pete's tyranid army is one of the most challenging army I have ever faced. We played the mission with the random point value objectives. The random dice rolled in the nids favor, giving them one point above us in their deployment so we had to bring the fight to them. We killed a two hive tyrants, a canifex, the swarmlord, and a ton of other bugs, but in the end, we couldnt hold them back and were overrun pretty bad. It was a good game though and im looking forward to the next one. I might have to paint more sternguard and bump my squad up to ten.

If anyone has advice on how to combat an army with tons of big tyranids, any ideas are welcome.

The board and terrain are getting there, but I still need a table to put it on. Hopefully this week. A lot more went down than what is shown in the photos.

@ilikebmxbikes - I really enjoyed this game, it's the first time I've laid 4000 points of my Tyranids down together. The scenery and all the armies looked amazing, and I'm now slightly guilty for bringing along my work in progress flyrant and gargoyles. I just wanted to show off my greenstuffing skills, but I'm definitely going to have to get my paints out before our next game ;-)

I've had lots of local tournament practice, so my nids are no pushover. The marines brought all the tools to take down my MCs, but I also had some nasty tricks to get into their lines and start harvesting biomass before it did too much damage. We had night fighting on turn one, which let my hordes of gargoyles, hormagaunts and genestealers move forward in relative safety, and flying hive tyrant with invisibility absorbed a lot of enemy fire in turns one and two. There were a lot of sternguard that needed to die so I could get across the table... fortunately my Doom of Malantai was in the mood to swallow a whole squad of them when he dropped in and the flyrant's shooting accounted for most of another once their Rhino was wrecked.

The combat between the Death Company and their Dread versus the already heavily wounded Swarmlord showed just how much of a badass the biggest bug can be with access to the new powers. With seven attacks from warp time he rolled two sixes and could direct hits onto the hammer and power fist, knocking them out before they could hurt him and the rest of the DC struggled to wound against his Iron Arm... fortunately I made some lucky FNP saves at that point. The dread piled in to try and finish him off, but ran straight into 7 more S9 attacks and exploded before it could hurt him.

If anyone wants to see more of my nids, I post as bugsculptor on warpshadow.com and have a WIP photo blog here: http://bugsculpting.tumblr.com/

When you see pictures of fully painted armies duking it out on a nice table it really motivates oneself to get their own army finished. I have admired your Blood Angels for a long time and have spent many hours looking over the same pictures again and again. The way you pose your models and the subtle conversions you have executed are just awe inspiring - keep them comming please :D

Did the death company kill the swamlord??

The swarmlord killed the DC and DC dread in a drawn out combat. Knowing we hadn't a chance to take enough objectives to secure a victory the death company went for glory. The storm raven zoomed onto the table, inflicted a few wounds on the swordlord and dropped the DC and DC dread out right in front of the swarm lord the following turn. The death company assaulted the swarmlord and the dread assaulted and killed a unit of Tyrant guard. The swarmlord challenged the DC chaplain who refused. The swarmlord unleashed his attacks and rolled a few sixes, which he allocated to the thunder hammer and power fist marines, killing them instantly. The rest of the death company struck with their liturgies of blood and killed the swarmlord... Or so they thought. The swarmlord made one of its 'feel no pain' rolls and then combat continued another few rounds. The death company dreadnought joined the combat and was smashed by the swarmlord before he could strike. Then the last DC marine was killed. The storm raven had to fly accross the board in a later turn to inflict the final wound to kill the Tyranid beast. The swarmlord is one nasty creature with his buffs.

Really appreciate it. Your sons of orar are amazing. I actually made a note on the marine you modeled with the power sword, the one who looks like he is delivering a killing blow. My next sang guard unit might have to borrow his pose.

Nice to see painted Armys on an Table (if you go to my GW Base ... you just see grey armys and young players the most time ....). Your Angels looks very nice in action =). That motivates to play again (at the moment, i'm more a painter and conversior as a gamer ...) What chapter have your partner?

It was a good game. The winged tyrant deserves a paint job. We have to do another 4k game sometime in the next few weeks but Im down to do a 1500-2k sometime in between. I have some more first company blood angels in the pipeline. I was also thinking since you have the space hulk rules, a ton of painted stealers, and I have a bunch of BA terminators, we could try space hulk sometime.

I know what you mean. Most of the time at the stores armies are grey or primmed. Games against painted armies are always the most enjoyable for me. Playing against pete, 7150, or any of the other guys we regularly game with is a treat. Throw in some nice painted terrain and the game gets even better. Getting down to eye level and checking line of sight is just awesome. We do allow work in progress units to be fielded. Sometimes people get a new exciting unit but dont have time to get it done before a game. Getting the new unit on the table often motivates getting it painted as well. As we have been playing more games since 6th edition I have been really motivated to paint more competitive units for my BA. I really want to get some land speeders and I have a unit of vanguards in the line up.

Everyone should check out pete's tyranids at the link below. He has done some amazing stuff on his bugs. I'll make sure to take more detailed photos on our next game and maybe do a proper battle report.

I'm down for Space Hulk any time you want to play. In my humble opinion it's the best game GW have ever put out and I haven't played it since I moved to the states almost two years ago. In the UK I played it as much as 40k and we had several weekend long campaigns with four players. The rule set is also pretty easily extensible, so you can take it to some fun places .... an example would be our aliens themed weekend (http://www.warpshadow.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=14823).

salamanders and astral claws are on the back burner... although some astral claws sternguard subbed in for the latest battle. The Doom came down and killed pretty much the whole unit in one go.

My priority is Blood Angels at the moment. With the FW HH books coming out and the new chaos codex, I will need everything I can get.

My side project at the moment are Vraks Renegades Servants of Slaughter. I am trying to get a 2K army painted. They will be fun in our Chaos campaign we plan on doing around the time of the codex release. I will play them or lend the army to anyone who doesn't have a chaos force but wants to participate in the narrative campaign.

The rough army list is below:
Renegade HQ Squad w/ Chimera
Khorne Exalted Champion
5x Enforcers
2x Priests

8 World Eaters (FW) w/ Rhino
8 World Eaters (FW) w/ Rhino
3 Bezerker Ogryns

Platoon Command Squad
Infantry Squad
Infantry Squad
Infantry Squad
Infantry Squad

Armoured Fist Squad
Armoured Fist Squad

Hellhound
Hellhound

Leman Russ w/ Lascanon
Leman Russ w/ Lascanon
Artillery Battery

For the campaign, I also plan/ have the below:
3x Hellblades
Giant Chaos Spawn's
Chaos terrain -These will be bits which will decorate my current city scape and make it look ravaged by chaos. Imagine lots of piles of mutilated civilians, skulls and chaos icons.
Lord Zhurfor and World Eater Terminator Retinue

Your stuff still is still outstanding. I'm liking that slightly glossy finish more and more. Shame I never used the inks before they were discontinued. My wife and I are trying to buy our first house, and glass cabinets are very likely the first piece of furniture I buy so I can display my own stuff. IKEA look a good deal, and I've seen people mod them simply with some school-science style clamps and square off-cuts from a glazier to add extra shelves.

I got some work done on my Renegades. I have 20 more on their way. Im trying to get my first 20 done before they get here. Infantry always take the longest to paint in IG/Ork armies so I want to get them out of the way. Once the renegades are done, I will move onto the bezerkers and Ogryns, then I will be air brushing all of their tanks and hellblades.

I have a quick recipe for these infantrymen and I can get a batch of six done quickly.

I am looking forward to it. I have done a ton of reading up on it and found an airbrush kit I want. My blood angels are too far along to introduce an airbrush into the mix on them but it will be perfect for these renegades. Painting tanks has always been my least favorite thing, so If I can batch paint three tanks at a time for the renegades I will be happy. I have 3x leman russes, 3x chimeras, 2 hellhounds, and 3 hellblades that need to be airbrushed.

I had a game today vs Pete's tyranids. We played a 2k game and played The Relic mission. Pete didnt use an alternative to his competition list and it featured less big bugs. It was a little more forgiving on my end. Instead of taking assault marines, I only took tac marines and they did great. It was a close game but in the end I couldn't get the relic from tyranid control and lost the game. We used mysterious terrain rules for the woods and one forest on the tyranid edge rolled iron bark. A tervigon who had possession of the relic, backed up into the woods and kept making invulnerable saves and recovering wounds despite all the heavy weapons being dumped on him. It was a good game and I look forward to the next one. Below are some photos.

bugsculptor
10-09-2012, 15:45
Yep, those 19 hormagaunts put something like 13 wounds on the tac squad in the first two assault phases... and all but one bounced off armour. The marines just wore the gaunts down and drew them out of Synapse, then the hormies lost a few guys and ran back to mama. That same marine squad then put two melta wound on one of the Trygons and killed it with a krak grenade, but not before getting cut down to two guys.

A lot of my stealers are from Space Hulk, including the fairly heavily converted Brood Lord. They have longer tongues and nice dynamic poses and the poses with their arms tucked in make them much easier to place in scenery. Trying to get 10 or more stealers with their arms outstretched into combat or a ruined building is ridiculous, they tip themselves up and hang onto each other like a barrel of monkeys when you try and move them.

My two trygons did so much damage in this game, they cleaned out the backfield firebase practically single handed and the remaining one came back to stop the rampaging death company getting to the relic. This was a really fun game, though the relic mission is very tough to turn around once one side makes it to the center and runs away with the objective.

I got some Deimos stuff for my BA's. I built the Deimos rhino and it fit together amazingly. I'm not gonna lie, after building a FW Malcador defender, I was a bit traumatized but the Rhino was a blast. I am experimenting with a recipe to base my tanks with an airbrush, then finish the inks and details by brush. Hopefully this will allow me to paint them quicker and keep the same consistent look as my full brush painted tanks. If this works out, I can finally tackle the thunderhawk.

unless if you are a collector, the book is not better than the regular release. i saw the books were limited to 1k copies and numbered so I bought one. After purchasing it, I realized that the book itself isn't numbered, but instead a numbered letter comes with each book. The cover is nice, and it feels good to the touch, but it is essentially the same book. The book sold out in the US the day it popped up on the online store and some people have been listing them on ebay for $300.... not sure if they sold any though.

Yes, please do SoH or EC bmx. It was also for me a hard dession between the both legions, i mean the new background for the SoH in the Betrayal Book is awesome. But purple Marines with golden Trimms.... I couldnt resist.

And the good thing about them you can use tons and tons of the awesome mark IV power armour, because they where allways over the top equipt!

Can I ask where you get your heads? The lore always describes Blood Angels as being especially beautiful for Marines, and I feel the heads you get represent that more so than the ones you get in Sanguinary Guard and DC kits

Space Marine Masters of the Chapter set - The heads and necks are a bit smaller than the GW plastic ones. They heads make the marines look more proportionate. All of my space marines use heads from that set. I sculpt the hair using greenstuff.

The Librarian is looking very nice - the weapon swap looks like it was always there and the blue armour should stand out very well amongst the rest of the army. I'm liking the new tanks too - the highlighting on the Rhino looks really good.

I finally got this Rhino painted. It is a great model. It was surprisingly easy to put together. I just have to paint the headlights and the Aquila on the back door.

I absolutely love this log. Can't wait to see the Thunderhawk, and, if it got released... a Stormbird? :shifty:

It's cool how the Forge World pre-heresy stuff is designed to look like the really early Space Marine tank kits.

Comming from a paintmaster like you, i realy appreciate it to, it realy motivates me. Your log was the reason i joined warseer in the first place, because i was intereseted in your RS and Astral Claw Paintsheme. I mean with all your work, be it Terrain, your Astartes, your Steel Legion or all the Lost and Dammned there to come you have done an outstandig job, and i realy like it that you allways but good picture up so we can realy enjoy your art. I also like to see you back in the game since 6th ed, the battlereports are great.

When i first painted the EC´s i was realy not so shure about the metallic purple tone, because in the older artworks they have a stronger reddish tone in them, i think DPA nailed the "old" pre heresy colour sheme perfectly. But since betrayal the are portraid metallic purple and that was all i needed=)

The new rhino is very nice, did you decide the markings yourself? Also, when can we expect a Fellblade?
