Sword works, half way between a club and a maul, the combiplasma apears to have a problem, mainly that the bolt shells appear to feed through the plasma guns magnetic containment field... that could be unfortunate..

Very scottish looking sword there. Let me guess, he's shouting FREEDOM!!!!!!!!!!

Also the shell ejection point could do with being on the other side. Picky maybe, but it's better than a hot shell casing in the face!

According to the fluff Bolters fire caseless ammo, so the ejection port should only be used in case of a missfire. ;)

However, the artists seem unaware of this, if you look at the streams of shells ejecting from the weapons in the artwork:rolleyes:

Edit: Your point is still valid, though... I wouldn't want an unused shell in the face either:)

Oh, and James: He looks very nice! The sword looks better than I had expected.

Another fine model there, what did you use for the sword? is it scratch built?

DirtJumper
08-10-2006, 15:38
From the looks of it, it looks like the bulk of it was made of plasticard.

spikyjames
08-10-2006, 16:47
yeah most of the blade was made from plasticard, with a brass etch eagle bent around the end, and a few more random bits to make it look a bit better.

Anymore new stuff to show? Could you explain how you did your lenses on the rhino hatches please?

spikyjames
10-10-2006, 09:30
nah nothing new at the minute, working hard you see;)

the lenses were done this way

black basecoat

scab red first thick highlight around the bottom

blood red second a little bit thinner than the first

a line of blazing orange around the bottom edge

and then just a spot of white at the opposite edge from the highlight.

and that's it, nice and simple.

I played spikyjames' Mentor Legion this evening.

Put it this way, I have never lost so convincingly. :(He made me say that! I won, but spikyjames is a big bully!

Credit to spikyjames, his army looked much better in real life. The only problem he will forever endure are the small conversions, such as the left-handed Bolters. Small conversions like that are not particularly noticeable, so they may be overlooked when the Best Army judges inspect his army during Heat Two. spikyjames could remedy this by following the example of a previous Best Army winner and have his wife continuously point out conversions to every passer-by.

Oh, and yes, I was half tempted to pinch a few models when he was not looking. :p

spikyjames
13-10-2006, 11:46
and my wife will probably be at the 2nd day of heat 2 with me this year:cool:

My Daemon Prince swept aside three Terminators on the second turn. From there on, the Daemon Prince only managed to cause one wound on the Mentor Legion Captain and break him, before being shot down by a Predator Annihilator.

Ah well. :p

i'm a bit behind on what i'm doing at the minute. rugby training and a bloody hard game on weds left me feeling a tad sore:(

i've actually got another 3 marines another rhino and another land speeder done but as they're no massive difference from what i've already done, there's no real point in posting pic's.
i am just about to start painting a bike or should i say trike/quad squad, so may put some pics of these up.:chrome:

oh ok then:)

land speeder number 3-

conversions- the skirt around the bottom is plasticard with an imperial eagle from the rhino kit added and the tail fin has been turned around. trying to make it look a bit sleeker

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/mentor%20leigon/100_1285.jpg

oh and i've done decent bases for all three

james

20-10-2006, 11:13
the added bulk on the front does make it look .. bulkier
but the fin is a nice sleek-ifying touch!
I dont really know if the thingie on the underside should be green, it would perhaps look better metallic or another colour, to make it look less bulky.

but, that aside, great job, as always!

HiredSword.
21-10-2006, 11:11
very nice indeed, i would have made the back fin lower by simply cutting it down, that would have worked too.

On a serious note, the trike has turned out very nice.

spikyjames
22-10-2006, 11:24
yeah it's not too bad, i had to add the radio thingy just to give more height as it would look very wide otherwise.

I'm more partial to the 2 wheeled kind, but still, nice converting! An attack bike with the gunner mounted on the top would be cool.

Thats so cool...:p .It works really well.Have you turned the back wheel hub things(accurate description.. i know) to their side slightly and used plasticard?.Or is that totally wrong.

basically right, here's a wip to let you see abit more

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/WIP%20Stuff/100_1282.jpg

the rear hub on the bike was cut out and attached to the opposite side so that the wheels could be fitted on the outside and then i took the front mud guard from another bike and attached it to the outside, plasticard was then used to attach the mud guard to the main bike chassis.

How did that conversation go at the military development center? "We want to develop a Tri-Wheel Multi-drive Military Scout Vehicle capable of going on fast ground-based reconaissance objectives - specifically, a tricycle."

These guys are looking good. Makes sense in a way, fits the excessively chunky nature of SM bikes.

Where'd you get the spare fronts from, anyway? seems awfully expensive if you're having to buy two full kits for each of these buggers, pretty though they may be.

Heat Two? I'm afraid I'm not going any more. Traded my ticket to a desperate young man for twenty-six terminators, a dreadnought and twenty scouts. You'll have to wait til Carnage Southampton before enjoying my company, unfortunately.

just got these bikes (a squad of 5 and an attack bike thingy) a land raider and 2 more scouts left to do. once these are all done i'll leave it a week and then the thread will be closed and all the pics will be removed:(
got to make space in my photobucket for future projects.

Well would you mind if i saved all your photos now into my photobucket account under your name of course, cos i've use ideas from them a couple of times and i'm really tempted to do a mentors army and it would be such a shame not to be able to see them any more.

Also you got that second bike done really fast, the second one looks a bit better i think. Are you finishing the army totally...for ever? or will their be the occasional addition.
