Hey all, I'm considering picking up a 3rd edition hive tyrant, to use as an Alpha Warrior with scything talons, lashwhip and bonesword. Would anyone object to this appearing in a game?

I think it's actually what GW intended.

That model was gigantic. Is that how big the Alpha Warrior is supposed to be? And I wouldn't be opposed to it at all. I liked that model.

The Alpha's not a MC, so whatever you use should fit on a 40mmm base if you want to avoid problems.

Could anybody do a size comparison between a modern Warrior and Tyrant?
Give those of us that dont have the model a chance to see what you mean

The 2:ed Hive be of perfect size i think, but its doesn't really follow the current design of the nids. Maybe with a headswap, and warrior arms or something?

Pics pf all three versions. My tyrants are both 3rd edition and yes they are much bigger than a tyranid warrior.

If however it fits the background, I think I might recycle mine into alpha warriors too. As I hear, tyrants are now super overpriced and Alpha warriors seem to be the best HQ.

For those in the know, are Alpha warriors allowed to have wings? I have a flyrant with 4 talons that would really like to come out of the shelves (unless it would be a really terrible choice now).

The 3rd Ed. Tyrant comes with a 40mm base as standard, but... (see below)

...he's over a head and shoulders bigger than standard warriors - not a massive problem (no pun intended) when joining a warrior unit, but would look a bit out of place if he joined gaunts et al, and would gaunts won't block line of sight to him, like they would with warriors, so it comes with a tactical disadvantage.

The old 3rd ed tyrant is somewhere around twice as tall as a warrior. I think it would look out of place.
