I've been working on putting together a space wolf based army, but with a desert theme (I got tired of painting things grey after doing a guard army). In my search for something to use as thunderwolf cavalry I found the mukaali (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/acatalog/TALLARN.html) from Forgeworld and thought they might work well as mounts. However I have never seen them in person, so I'm not sure if they would work well size wise. Does anyone have any experience with them?

I just wanted to clarify that I only intend to use the mount part of the model and to convert a marine to ride on top.

Also apologies for the typo in the title, I wasn't paying enough attention apparently.

I personally wouldn't suggest it. They just look like awkward star wars era dinosaurs.

I'd suggest something warhammer fantasy wolves. http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat1040021&prodId=prod1290040

It'll take a bit of modelling, but far less than the idea you were going on. You might just wanna beef up the wolves a bit, but that's fairly easy green stuff work.

Thanks for the input, a friend just showed me some a small pic of the new beastmen warthog creature, I think I may wait until that is out to decide what to do.

I for one think that the Mukaali could work really well as marine mounts, providing the size/scale works well together. I do agree with 'thewarsmith' in that they are very star wars esq, like a Dewback (http://www.starwars.com/databank/creature/dewback/index.html) in fact! but i like that!

If the scale works, i'd love to see this conversion!!

It would be awesome if you made some sort of desert/jungle space wolves. And the scale would be a lot better than with WHFB wolves.

They would probably look very good, but theres just something wrong in my opionion with desert themed Space Wolves.

They don't look vicious enough to have rending, either.

PP does some good sized wolves for their Hordes range.

I used the Hordes Circle of Orbors wolves for their calvalry. The worked out nicely, but you have to put the on dreadnaught bases.

Well they just put the razorgor up for preorder and, at least to me, it looks ridiculous. I think I'll check out the hordes wolves, I've been thinking about trying the game anyways, so it'll be a win-win. Thanks for all the input.

How about the D&D Vampire Dire Wolf... not sure how large they are, though:
