So I was fishing around through my old empire stuff today, feeling nostalgic and noticed I've a gold wizard who fell of his mount. Anyway, is the horse for the old empire wizards the same as the old Bretonnian barded warhorse?

Yes I believe they are the same.

Standard old horse with caparisson (spelling?) it's the same width in the saddle as the regular and ancient barded warhorses for the empire.

Yeah, it was the standard caparison horse from the tail end of 3rd edition through 4th edition. The old High Elf silverhelm models used the same horses too, and you can find those floating around on Ebay.

I'm pretty sure the 5th edition Bretonnian horses were actually resculpts, and were slightly bigger than these.

I used to love those old wizard models, especially the Light wizard with his acolytes which never got used.
