Hi. Ive been playing warhammer for a couple of years now, and i just made an account on this amazing site. When reading trough the army lists treads it looks like most of the army lists consist of 2250pts. Is this the most common amount of points to use in a normal match? At my club and with my friends the standard has always been 2000 points, unless we dont have time to play that many points. I have always thought that 2000pts matches are the most common. Was I wrong?

No, 2k pts is the most common size of a game, atleast here in my neighnourhood...

2000 points is about as common as 2250 where I play. 2250 has the advantage that you can have some more troops than in 2000, or more powerful characters if that's what you want.

2250 > 2000 imo. 2000 is more of a barebones compilation, those extra 250 points typically allow you to put in that something extra.

I think 2000 used to be the standard until around 2004. Since then I've seen more and more 2250 lists popping up, not only here on Warseer but in my own gaming circles, and I would say that has become the new standard.

Basically, a 2250 limit gives a higher unit to character ratio, which is what many players like to see on the battlefield (myself included).

2250 also seems to be the tournament standard. It allows for extra troops without having too many characters.

2250 seems to be getting more popular. Personally I prefer to play to a multiple of 500, so 2000 most regularly. I think the reason more people are playing 2250 is so you have enough points to field that extra character or a few more cores.

2250 is the new tournament standard, but I think 2999 is the best point limit.

I think 2999 is the best point limit.

I whole-heartedly agree with this. No more lord choice but more troops!

I like 1850, 2250 and 2999 the best. Odd points values are always my favorite, since at each "character threshold" a large % of the army seems to be characters. I am a big fan of 1850 because it's a format that leads itself to very quick games and the lack of Lords or more than 1 rare slot means many of the game's most broken combinations and abilities are off limits.

I would prefer either 1500 and 2500 as targets, since each creates an interesting dynamic.

I think the problem with 2000 points, is it's really a 1750 or even 1500 point army just with a lord included.
That's why 2250 feels like it's a step up in terms of size, because not only do you get your lord, but you get an extra unit or two.

Well I prefer 2250 just because it means I can fork out for a Chaos Lord!

Well I use to play 2000pts in the past but after a 3 year break from Warhammer, everyone started 2250 and we never turn back. Honeslty, 2250 look more like a battle. If everyone in my group have the models painted up, I would go for 2999.
