View Full Version : What should be made a skirmishing unit?

Having gotten the idea from another thread I was wondering, what unit would people change into a skirmishing unit, off the top of my head:

Dwarf Slayers
Chaos Marauders (maybe as a upgrade or seperate unit, with throwing spears perhaps?)
Chaos Forsaken

Chaos Marauders, since that Chaotic nature would make that more probable. An upgrade, anyway.

08-02-2010, 12:03
Chaos Forsaken, it would make the unit worth taking. I do think they should have more of their rules changed if this happened but as it is now they are useless.

wow my idea got brought up in another thread ?? and I was expecting to pulled apart "shooting? in a chaos army??"

but like I said I'm like to see an option to make marauders skirmish with either bows or throwing spears (think hunters? maybe some combo rule with dogs as well?) and forsaken to be more like possed

08-02-2010, 12:10
i don't see mauraders as skirmishers, slayers i think could work as an upgrade

08-02-2010, 12:24
Whoa, I always thought forsaken WERE skirmishers. Its one of those things you assume something has then find out it doesn't. They're even worse than I thought they were.
Slayers, yes. I wholeheartedly support slayers being skirmishers.
Marauders? No. Remember that being ranked up is the normal way to operate in battle and marauders aren't trained. While we would consider skirmishing the norm in a fight, in a real battle of that type its a bit unusual to operate in such a loose formation unless you're particularly brave/foolhardy/individualistic.

Forsaken for sure.

For the Marauders, it would be nice to have a new unit (probably special) for skirmishing marauders, but with the throwing options. Maybe scouting as well.

savage orcs.

arrer boyz
i want some shooting skirmishers too!

I think theres an argument for more archer units to be skirmished. Personally I hate my combat troops being skirmished due to the fact that skirmished units are for attacking vulnerable flanks, yet get no bonuses for doing so, in fact they get less than fast cavalry. But if your archers could skirmish you can get shots off round scenery easier, it would allow them to be tormentors. Orcs and goblin archers are pretty useless, perhaps that would make them viable

Steam tank.

Was going to say giant but its not 10 character's long.

Chaos Marauders with throwing axes (http://www.avianon.net/rules/marauder_axemen.php)

08-02-2010, 15:13
Slayers as skirmishers would be seriously nasty.

Forsaken should have skirmished so that they would have a unique and worthy function in the army and allowed the army to function without heavy magic and/or all M7+ troops.

Eh? Since when are skirmishers flank attack units. I thought they were light harassment troops.

Night Runners ;(

They're supposed to be used to entangle cavalry really.

08-02-2010, 16:32
Chaos Warriors.

The extra -1 to hit for missiles would make a full infantry army a lot more viable.

Disclaimer: The above post may not be entirely serious.

I think chaos forsaken need skirmish or at least a special rule to make them worthwhile and original.

I'm of the opinion that they are phasing out skirmishing units because they plan to bring in formation changes next edition (speculation/wishlist).

08-02-2010, 20:14
Forsaken, yes.

Marauders, no.

Slayers need to be skirmishers. Dwarven rangers should probably be skirmishers as well. 'Rangers' getting trapped in terrain is kind of silly.

08-02-2010, 21:13

Chaos Spawns maybe, you should be able to feild them in units IMO.

My friends 2250 WoC list is potent enough without adding in ranged skirmishers for him. As it stands, magic and my skirmishers' poisoned shots are the most effective tools against it.

09-02-2010, 02:09
Everything frenzied should be skirmishing (and no command options).

I can't understand why Ghouls aren't skirmishers. They look so much more uglier, nastier and ghoulish (which is as it should be) by skirmishing...

09-02-2010, 04:30
I always saw Dwarf Rangers and Corsairs being skirmishers.

09-02-2010, 04:39
I agree with Slayers as they die too easily with shooty armies,

Also Dwarf rangers would be a great idea.....fully ranked up unit in a forest anyone?

09-02-2010, 06:11
White Lions.

09-02-2010, 06:46
Chaos warriors!!!................'s friend forsaken....

09-02-2010, 06:51
Beastmen herds.

(somebody had to say it)

09-02-2010, 12:27
Treekin and Eternal guard.
... Okay, so maybe not.

09-02-2010, 16:12
Dwarf Slayers, Night Runners, Ungor herds, Ghouls

The SkaerKrow
09-02-2010, 16:53
Dwarf Rangers, Dark Elf Corsairs, Chaos Forsaken, Skaven Night Runners and Hobgoblin Sneaky Gits.

09-02-2010, 18:38

Slayers would be fluffy, but who at GW gives a rats ass about fluff :/

09-02-2010, 19:02

They make no sense as a ranked unit, and just about make skeletons obsolete.

09-02-2010, 19:12
Dwarf Rangers & Slayers.

09-02-2010, 19:23
Slayerstar anyone? :)

Ghouls, if they were living and unraisable as in 6th edition. Although I have about 40 based in ranks of 4 now (dammit!)

09-02-2010, 19:27
I have always liked the idea of Slayers being skirmishers. They are far too easy to kill currently and the idea of ranked slayers just doesn't sit easily with me.

09-02-2010, 19:28
Another vote for Night Runners.

I wonder if the guidelines for Dwarf design goes:

1. No skirmishers

2. No cavalry

3. No monsters

09-02-2010, 21:29
Beast herds (or gors at least)
Night runners
