More often than not I do wonder how many models an army will have at 2000 pts on average. It does influence my choices of armies, because I have to be able to transport it easily and I think I might lose track of all the models if there are too many.

Therefore I was wondering if you would be willing to help me to make an average model count for each army in the current incarnation. Something like i.e. CSM: 1000 pts 32 Infantry 3 Vehicles 1 MC or so... (<-the numbers in the example are random). It doesnt have to be very accurate because I know you can adjust your list but maybe adding a range like "usually 20-60 infantry or so".

Any help would be very much appreciated, because I do consider Tyranids and IG but I am scared of the model count..
Furthermore I guess it could be within common interest for ppl who want to start a new army...

Guard at 2K?
120ish models.

Infantry horde will be 200-250 models

Mechanised, veteran heavy lists, maybe 60-80 models but 15 of those are going to be tanks or flyers.

Personally, as guard units are organised into set numbers, I find forgetting models very hard. Unless you forget whole units ( camo'd units, in dense cover...) you'll remember everything.

Transport isn't an issue. There are lots of threads about how to transport models, with good advice in them. Building an army takes lots of time and money. Just factor in the cases etc needed as you buy the models. Having decent cases etc makes it easier and safer to move your stuff, and is well worth it.

Aw man... I wanted to do a Vostroyan-Infantry-Horde army... 200 models would cost me... Over 400 quid.

Never played a 2k game, I'd like to field these amounts of models once in a while :P

Really don't look at these the Rather nice and not at all addictive resin guard (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/acatalog/copy_of_ELYSIAN_DROP_TROOPS.html) or the metal ones start looking reasonable....

Pure GK army 2000pts:
30 greyknights in 3 units
6 termies with BC and 3 psycannons
And 3 landraiders. 2 godhammer and 1 crusader
Pretty much 100% metal army but its pretty fun to run. Insanely low model count.

If you're running a DeffWing; yes :p. In fact my 1500 point list is 22 exactly (Gazzy, WB, 17 meganobs, 3 wagons), though I've recently dropped a meganob to upgrade my rokkit wagon to a super-kannon.

At 2k I would add another unit of 8 meganobs in a wagon, so that's 30.

For Tyranids you need a number of Termagants per Tervigon in your force just for spawning. So for the Tervigon based list (Tervigons make up 2 HQ's and 3 Troops and 3x10 min sized units of Termagants round out the troops ~1000pts) on the first turn you will have 5 Tervigons and somewhere between 45 and 120 Termagants (30 original and the rest spawned) with an average of 82.5. If you roll well and a chunk of gaunts survive it can go up more on the second turn. At 2000pts you can easily add another 60 Termagants (Max the Troops choice squad sizes) and 90 Gargoyles with around 200pts to spare.

So roughly at 2000pts (if you wanted to and are mad), 5 MCs and 180 infantry on the table with 15-90 additional infantry appearing on the first turn.

It's difficult to say, because the more vehicles you have, the less overall models you use, and vice versa. Of course, the catch is that despite counting as 1 model each, the vehicles run $40-50 each, so it isn't always a good way to judge the cost of an army.

Anyway, a vehicle heavy Ork army will probably have about 80-100 models (including about 10-12 vehicles, and 5-10 bikes). A horde Ork army could easily have upwards of 150 models or more (mostly Ork boyz and grots).

A chaos Daemons army doesn't usually have much at all. 50-60 models would probably be all they have (unless you use a lot of troops), although that includes 4-5 monstrous creatures.

Daemons run pretty low numbers, since the meat of our army is in our expensive HQ, Elite, and HS slots. Don't play a lot of 2k, but drawing up a real quick Fatecrusher would be 42 models:

Fateweaver
Bloodthirster
4x Crusher
4x Crusher
3x Flamer
7x Bloodletter
7x Bloodletter
7x Bloodletter
5x Plaguebearer
3x Soul Grinder

Though most people would drop that Bloodthirster for more models, so 45-55 is probably the general range. It's hard to get lower than that at 2k since our elites and HS start to cap out, but at 1500 you can get ridiculously low. I've won a local 1500 tournament with a 28-model Daemon army.

But since the real theme of your question is "transporting your army" Daemons are likely a poor choice, as they are horrible to transport despite their low numbers. A ton of metal, weird shapes that won't fit in standard foam trays, and giant Soul Grinders/Greater Daemons that would take up half of most peoples' transport bags.

I've run a 100+ daemon army at 1850, although it does start getting impractical at that size.

I run 2 IG lists, one fully mechanised, the other only partially so, both at 2K.
The mechanised list uses 59 infantry (2 heavy weapon teams) and 14 vehicles, the other list uses 87 infantry (4 heavy weapon teams) and 9 vehicles.

My Tau list uses 7 vehicles, 62 infantry and 9 battlesuits

Swarm heavy nids - easily 150-200 models, a couple MC's. Most don't use it though

Stealer/zilla - 30-40 stealers, 3-5 MC's

Zilla/Swarm - 3-5 MC's, 60-100 small things

Mech Eldar: 40-50 Infantry, 4-8 tanks
