Simple question, do you pronounce the GH, or leave it silent. I've seen alot of people for both camps, and I'm not sure which I like more personally. But which is more popular? Or is it a regional thing?

I pronounce it "wahg", so with the ah sound as if you're yawning.

Are there seriously people who think "wagh" should be pronounced like "wag"? It's a silent 'g'. This is a pretty basic rule in the English language (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gh_%28digraph%29#English).

I have a friend who pronounces it "wag". It makes me very angry.

Does he pronounce "through" as "thraug"?

You have to throw a bit of 'R' in there at the end as well, it is basically the Orks shouting War! (hoo! yeah!)

Like the above, I believe it's the Orks screaming "Waaaaaaar!". Unlike the above, I do not believe the GH is silent. Think of a Death Metal singer growling "war" and you get the idea(WAAAAAAAAAAAGHR!). Sounds more like the "huh!" than "polliwog".

"Waaaaaaaaaaaa!" is not that intimidating. Sounds like the Orks are crying.:D

It should be a guttural and growly as possible. Other than that, it's open to interpretation.

No, it's not silent, it's a voiceless velar fricative (like "loch"), so you do kind of say the 'gh', but it's certainly not "WAAAAAAAG", like a dog's tail, or someone who dates a footballer. It's closer to "WAAAAAAAAR", like how you'd shout it. I honestly had no idea there was anyone in the world who could get confused about this.

Every time I hear someone pronounced it Waargh, like the Tolkein wolves, I want to hit them.

14-02-2010, 13:21
I pronounce it the same way the orks say it in the Dawn of War intro.

I pronounce it : "Time for tea and Biscuits Gents"
