so i am a space wolf but i like the new chest plates that the blood angels are getting with the muscles (very greek). so i was thinking what kind of unit could use it and still fit me fluff? well the guys i chose were the Adeptus Custodes. i am going to use the rules of a grey knight grand master to show how he is better than any other marine. this guy is just going to be what would be a grunt for the Adeptus Custodes. i think even the psykic nature can be explaned by there close proximity to the imortal emporor. let me know what you guys think. i would like som ideas for gear and to know if this is cool or not.

Yeah, but all the custodes are either dead or on Terra. Probably the former.

If you plan on playing a contemporary 40k army (meaning whatever the theme/reasoning/character for your list takes place around the year 40,000), then you'd have an awful hard time justifying (to fluff 'historians') Adeptus Custodes anywhere other than Terra. Also, the inclusion of Grey Knights into a Space Wolf force is suspect at best, since their relationship with any member of the Inquisition is probably going to be severely strained (especially per the fluff in the new codex).

Now, ultimately your army is your own choice - Just saying that post-Horus Heresy, I am fairly certain the Custodes were only seen outside the actual palace one other time, and that was to escort the Sister Superior to meet the Emperor about Vandire.

If you're looking for information regarding the Custodes, the two place I would recommend are:

my understanding was that they would leave on missions for the emporer but not as squads but individuals. and i am not using him as =][= just the rules to show his close conection to the emporer. now if i got that wrong i will have to rethink this.

I'd say do what you want, really. I mean, if you're a stickler for the GW fluff yourself, then no an Adeptus Custode wouldn't really make sense in a Space Wolf army, or any army for that matter.

But why not toss him in as a "what if?" character? I feel like GW has broken their own fluff with "anomolies" like that before, so it's fine if you want to, too.

I don't know, however, if a Grey Knight Grand Master would be fitting for an "average" Custode. Personally I just don't get the impression that they're actually that powerful. A bit above your typical marine, so maybe a Brother-Captain (or whatever the middle rank is).

A custode might tag along with a SW force if there was rumour of a relic on a planet they were heading toward. I'm sure they'd go to very great lengths to recover a weapon or piece of armour belonging to the emperor, possibly even a mug he had his tea in. You can justify things well enough to have one, and if it gives you excuse to convert a paint something purrdy then why not?

Why not include a Custodes as a counts-as Canis?

because it wouldnt work canis is riding around on a big wolf whereas a custodes is on foot (or perhaps on a jetbike however samael seems to have the last one for whatever reason)

I was thinking the extra attacky wolfiness could be used to represent the greater combat prowess and speed of the Custodes.

'These men [Adeptus Custodes] never leave Earth and only rarely leave the Imperial Palace'.
Rogue Trader, 'The Age of the Imperium', 'The Imperial Hierarchy'

Why not just use the sculpted chest plate(s) to make dudes with 'uge muscles? Give one a Thunder Hammer and wings on his helmet and call him Thor. Or something equally imaginative...

Maybe not for long...

If you want to put Custodes in your Space Wolf army then why not do it as a Heresy era army, based on the attack on Prospero? A detachment of Custodes was dent alongside Russ to bring Magnus to heel.

Have a look at the Horus Heresy campaign packs from www.tempusfugitives.co.uk for some ideas.

thanks for all the replies guys. i like the idea of one leaving terra to recover a relic of the emporor. what rules would you use for one? would he be psycic? would a regular grey knight be an equivalent or something even more hardcore?

Fluff pants aside, the chests don't work very well at all. Custodes have lightning bolt emblems on their chests, not homoerotic breastplates.

I say go with a Brother-Captain. You wouldn't legally be able to field him on his own though (or any GK), but if whoever you play against is cool with it, then go for it.

Am I missing something? Space Wolves can take 'Hunters allies just fine, can't they?

They can. I might be making a mistake here, but I'm pretty sure HQ choices can't be taken as allies. The only way you could pick up a Brother-Captain would be as head of a squad of terminators.

You can ally in 0-1 HQ, 0-1 Elites, 0-2 Troops, and 0-1 Fast Attack (Codex: Daemonhunters, pg.21 :)

Tch, stupid me. I ought to know better than that. Must have gotten confused with the allying troops in rules.

Yeah, definitely a Brother-Captain then. :)
