OK, trying not to get bogged down too much in the question of whether or not Rogue Traders should even see the field, how would you field them? Let's all assume that we've read a dozen posts just saying 'Use the IG 'dex,' and have moved on to other environs;) What models/conversions would you use? What rules set? Have you read the Fandex? What do you think about it? Do you have any links to good RT armies?

Sound off!

The old speculation suggested that Rogue Traders would be part of the Ordo Xenos list but it seems there's no sign of that any time soon.

Which fandex?

I think rules and gameplay wise they would be closest matched to an Inquisitor Lord. I would write some specific wargear to them, but allow them a retinue, similar to codex WH and DH.
In terms of models I would delve into the Necormunda range, as I think there are some cool looking models there that would fit the job well.

use the inquisitorial dex's without the grey knights/sista's.

Though to make them a little more competitive, you'd want to use guard to bulk up your army.

Rogue Trader: inquisitor lord with retinue (he needs a lot of assistants to fill duties. Could very well even have psychic powers.

First Mate: elite inquisitor with or w/o retinue

Navis Noblite: inquisitor (elite) with psychic powers. or a allied guard psycher squad.

A pios RT my have a priest or many, allowing you to take the "mechanical warriors" of the sisters elites slot (can't think of the name") with whips. Arcoflagellents I think.

Crew, guard with the commanders giving orders to them makes sense, they aren't military but pseudo military.

Marines (naval) use storm troopers/ arbites.

Fast
Guard allies I can't think of anything in the sisters dex thats not sisters in the elites slot.

Hvy support.

more priest stuff, allied guard tanks,

On a side note RT's have access to power armor but they aren't elite like sisters or marines. you could take sisters (they have stats of normal humans) withouth leaders (therefore no faith) and would allow you to take some of the sisters vehicles. This would also give you heavy anti-tank options.

All this stuff works more or less.

Other suggestions I would have would be taking allies from the Kroot Mercenary list (because it makes sense. RTs need cheap labor and thats what kroot do best)

I'd have to say (in all seriousness), use the Guard Codex. However, use it with DH & WH Allies.

- You definitely want to use a tooled up Inquisitor Lord with a large Retinue as the Rogue Trader and his personal entourage.

- You could easily represent a powerful Navigator with the Primaris Psyker (Lightning Arc could represent him "unveiling his warp eye".)

- Use Ogryns & Ratlings as "counts as" Xenos mercenaries.

- Use Death Cult Assassins as "duelists" - close combat specialists in service of the Rogue Trader.

- IG Veterans, Platoons or even Penal Legion fit in very well as the various troops that a Rogue Trader gathers under his banner.

- Valkyries and Vendettas (and the Master of Ordnance if you take a CCS) represent the spaceborne assets the Rogue Trader has access to.

Really, there isn't any better option for fielding a legal Rogue Trader list, or any other non-Marine Imperial army. The IG list is simply so flexible as-is, and the DH & WH allies they can field make them even more so.

Why not make your own rules and see if your friends will let you use them in friendly games? The DH/WH lists can be a bit restrictive unfortunately, but the closest match if you'd like to go the tournament route.

i think a fun fluffy list woul dbe awesome... its basically an Inquisitor with retinue and some veteran IG squads with maybe a few sanctioned psykers etc. and other fluffy units. i wouldnt expect to see any SM kit there but kroot yes. ratlings, ogryns etc... it could be fun
