View Full Version : 3 fingered dread, a bit alien?

The new ven dread has been released, and one thing that really bugs me is the fact it only has 3 fingers on the power fist. Is it just me or does that seem a bit alien/xenos? Surely they would just make it with 4fingers to make it seem more human (at least as human as a robotic behemoth can be!).

It's a fair point actually, I hadn't really thought about it that way though. I'm still not overly keen on the hand, maybe this is why.

I think it's just you.

Maybe the mechanicum was taking a tip from ancient cartoons . . . you hardly ever find a cartoon character that has more than three fingers. Must be the cartoonists get tired of drawing them.

But it doesn't bother me. Still a fairly nice model.

I can see your point, it is a bit strange, although the model is still really nice.

the mechanics were to much for them. or maybe there was not enough room within the limited amount of space.
its a nice enough model. I do not think its Xeno.

Better than the gimpy 4"fingered" one.

1991 called and wanted to know what the problem with three fingered dread's is.

Four fingers is the norm, actually. And it's because it's easier to draw a four-fingered hand than a five-fingered one - it's a simplification in the same way that a white circle with a black dot in the middle is a simplified drawing of an eye.

I do agree Eltanko, 4 fingers does appear to be a more logical option, especially as this fist varient imitates human features! That said i don't think that 3 fingers detracts from the aesthetic.
I am am a big fan of the pre-heresy style power fist! It would look ace on a Black Templar dreadnought! ...or an Imperial Fist one for that matter!! ;)

The standard Dread hand is four 'fingers' arrayed in a circular shape. That is not what a human hand looks like. Three fingers is no less or more alien.

I'm not a big fan of the slightly cartoony giant Power Fist on the new Venerable Dread either, so I left it off and stuck on a metal Space Wolf one for my Bjorn the Fell Handed conversion (I also decided a Terminator helmet would look really good in place of the standard helmet):
