Look at them. LOOK AT THEM! ;)

Talking Points:

Nemesis of the Space Elves
Fight a long war against Chaos
C'tan take the place of Ancestor Gods as physical entities
Greatest Tech/Craftmanship/ Metal Working
Bitter, cold, and vengeful
Live beneath the ground in massive vaults and crypts
Attempting to regain their empire after a decline

Yay. I hope this isn't coincidental... Necrons kick the **** out of squats when it comes to this archetype.

Oh dear, they say you learn something new everyday. This is my something for today. Good points you have put across though. One part of me would love to see a Necron in discrace, with a huge bright orange beard, running at some chaos marines, wielding a pair of axes.

What... how... why..?

I am awestruck.

You sir have opened my eyes to something new...maybe The Necrontyr actually had vast quantities of facial hair before becoming the Necrons

That's an interesting conclusion, and perhaps not far from the truth.

I think it also shows where they might take Necrons in a new codex.

From the gameplay point of view, they do (in theory) play a lot like dwarfs too:

1) The image of a slow moving army. Dwarfs move slowly because they're short. Necrons because they're ponderous semi-robot things.

2) Necrons are supposed to have the most effective basic shooting weapons in the game. They sort of do, though I think a Pulse Rifle is actually more effective.

The problems right now, of course, is that Necrons fold against CC (something that WHFB Dwarfs don't do) and Necron CC specialists never were as good as they were supposed to be.

I forgot to mention they also all carry axes, and Necrodermis is Gromil/Mithril.

Well done sir, you have just put the final nail in the coffin. We shall never see another Necron codex. My only question: What did they do with all the hair?

It'll be interesting to see if they make the new models a bit shorter than the current ones. And if they try and subtly add beards to them.

Genius, I will never see Necrons in the same light.

I'll believe it when you can explain the lack of beer on the part of the Necrons. ;) Flesh body or metal body, Dwarves love their beer. :D

haha. Somebody please make a Necron riding on a shield carried by other Necrons.

Dwarves had one too many flings with their anvils I say.

Wow.

It also explains why Necron females look the same as males!

Don't you watch Futurama, how do you think they lubricate.

I don't think that is accurate; in fact, there was an article on the old version of the GW website is that they were supposed to be closer to undead archetypes; with Necron Lords and C'tan were supposed to represent necromancers/ vampires.

Killjoy.

Ignoring Joe, you, Col. Tartleton, are more insightful than Magnus himself.
*prostrates self*

I don't think the necromancy thing necessarily precludes them being dwarves. I know it's not WHFB, but look at Dragon Age: Origins, and the Golems.

I don't mind that Necrons are tall and thin either. I rather like that they're not just copy-paste dwarves. GW did the same thing with 40k space-skaven, which don't look like rats (because they have exoskeletons and compound-eyes. And they don't have tails either, IIRC).

Sir Tartleton, you made my day.

Also, their planets should have been heavily industrialized, and thus polluted. Particurlarly with: Lead.

They can have used their beard as semi-conductor in the building of their new metalic, computerized bodies. I explain:

"In the search of saturnism, it's worth noting that lead can be found in hairs, with a concentration 10 times higher than in blood [...]"

"The galena cristal [a form of lead] was used [...] in the beginning of the 20th century as a primitive semi-conductor in the Schottky diod, used in the first radio receivers."
Translated (?) from French entry "plomb" in Wikipedia.

So, if their beard was polluted enough, they could have used it inside their new bodies.

And, of course, their metalic bodies are using beer as a lubricant.

Wow, Never thought of that, now you say that, they are remarkably similar.

@Col. Tartleton, Post #12: I have been looking for that picture without the text for a while, thank you

Oh man ! Now I can't look at a Necron picture without imagining a beard on it !

Look this was the beginning of their mutation !

This thread has opened my eyes... almost makes me want to collect a necron army. Almost.

Although I would be very pleased to see necrons with little wire beards.

Actually, Eldar are dwarves.

Long lived race who remember grudges and deeds after generations; have to deal with ancestral wrongdoings.

Prefer living in cramped craft rather than in open hills of planets.

Does not favour space travel in favour of going through tunnels.

Big emphesis on craftmanship: ancestral RUNIC weapons are used by their warriors.

Their psykers use Runic powers rather than tapping into he warp the wayother races psychers use.

You may well get your wish if Matt Ward does the Necron codex. :shifty:

A very nice set of points, well thought out. Whether it was intentional by GW I wouldn't be so sure, there are certainly aspects that don't fit. But the ones that do are interesting :) And I do like the idea of more subtle connections between races.

A connection could be seen with Chaos Dwarves too: they made a pact with some very dangerous entities, effectively selling their souls to become a bitter and twisted race enslaving others to do their work. Plus there're the Chaos Dwarf sorcerers that become trapped in inanimate bodies for all their power.

Never fear, for I shall save you all from this nightmare.

Necrons have not in the past, nor will they ever, own Bugman's Brewery.

Problem solved.

I thought this was quite obvious, you didnt even mention the anti-magic/anti-psyker aspect.
