I am starting an Ork army soon and I am wondering if the Flames of War tanks are suitable to be used in 40k. I don't know what their scale is but I wish to use the models parts to make my own Ork vehicles. Does anyone know what size they are?

If they are too small them can anyone recommend another manufacturer?

Nope, FOW is 15mm. 40k is heroic 28mm.

Tatty bye! ;)

Flames of War is 1/100 so are far too small for 40k.

For 40K scale WWII tanks have a look at 1:48 Tamiya and Hobbyboss or even Bolt Action from Warlord games and Westwind in 28mm/1:56.

A FoW sherman is about as long as a space marine is tall.

Here's a comparison pic you may find helpful.

The FOW tank is on the far left.

Grot Tanks for the win for sure!!

Only if you're using epic scale grots.

FoW tanks are around 1/15 - 1/20 the physical size of a 40k tank.

You can use them for epic superheavies though.

Using some of the bigger FOW tanks as the basis for Ork Wartraks might be feasible. Or using several different kinds of tank chassis to make the drivepods of an Ork style mammoth tank (original C&C with the four seperate track units one) ?

But straight out using that as 40k vehicles isn't feasible. Not even for epic (shermans end up about the size of a baneblade I think).

They're far to big for Epic. A regular tank end up looking like an Ordinatus. Certainly much bigger than a Baneblade.

You can see the size (in the hand not vs 40k) in one of the FoW videos from Beasts of War :-

not at all suitable unless individual orks are planning to surf on them.
