The Tale of Fantasy Painters 2009-2010

Month 12

It's all down hill from here.

All the best,

This is the thread on which you post your work for month TWELVE. (The work you have done in the month of JULY).

Please make only one post (for each army) in the first week.

Your post should include:

1) The description and points of the unit. AND YOUR TOTAL POINTS SO FAR.
2) Any additional information you care to share with us about your painting.
3) A Dice roll. (Explained below)
4) Up to six photographs of your months work and the army so far.

The dice role.

With over 250 painters in this years Fantasy tale it would be impossible to try to comment on everyones work. (Although there are some who will try!) We considered splitting into army factions which would have left every one only posting on others painting the same army. Someone came up with the great idea of dicing for it. So you throw a dice and record the score. You then try and post comment on everyone who has the same dice roll as you. In return you can expect comment form all of them. This way each month we will all be commenting on a random selection of other painters work.
(Note: this does not stop anyone posting anything they like about anyones work regardless of the numbers rolled!)

A Word on using photographs

You can use up to six photographs (the maximum allowed in a post by warseer). To show us your months painting and the 'army' so far. The best size for showing your work is 640x480 (It can be smaller or you can use ‘thumbs’ which link to bigger pictures but they must not be bigger or it takes too long for the pages to load). The best thing to do is to resize them, wherever you are hosting your images, and then drag and drop the ‘img code’ directly into the text.

This month (JULY) WIP Thread.

AFTER THE FIRST WEEK ... This thread will become the 'normal' ... comment and crit’ of others work, Work In Progress (WIP) pictures of your work as it develops, how you are getting on, seeking advice and encouragement for your ideas and your painting and generally chatting about the project, life and the cosmos.

However, please continue to only post your work for the first week. This is to give everyone a chance to post up their finished work before it gets lost amongst a sea of chat and WIP shots.

Thanks again to everyone who has signed up for this madness.

If you have not signed up yet…

If you have not signed up yet and would like to join us you are not to late.
Just post on this thread which army and how many points you intend to paint and then crack on.
Anything you post this month will count for last months painting.
(Although you will have to push on and paint something for next month to catch us up).

If you can not post anything this month …

DO NOT PANIC! … use a joker.
Busy lives calm down again, enthusiasm returns, time presents itself.
When it does 'push hard and 'buy back' your joker by painting extra. If your struggling post and say so. (don't just slip quietly away) You will be amazed by the posts of encouragement and support which come from your fellow painters eager to see you successfully complete this project. Most importantly ... 'Stick with it' ... The prize of getting your stuff painted remains worth all the effort.

What is it all about?

Do you want to paint a 2000 point army in the next 12 months?
Do you want to meet a great bunch, with the same goal who will encourage and support you throughout the process?
Can you do the same in return?
Are you completely bonkers?
Then you have come to the right place!

The aim of The Tale of Painters (TOP) is to help motivate those involved to start and complete an army in the next twelve months.

We made a decision early on to split the Tale into two separate 'halves' one for 40K and one for Fantasy. They have continued to evolve in slightly different ways but this is how the Fantasy Tale works.

The painters involved have made a commitment to paint and post, by the last day of each month, approx 200 points of their chosen army. They do this each month for the next 12 months. Starting with their first post on the last day of August 2009 and finishing with their last post on the last day of July 2010.

However, because people have real lives with exams, holidays, honeymoons, new babies etc, etc. They get two 'Jokers'. For two months within the year you can ‘play a joker’ and rather than post an update they can post "sorry guys couldn't get it done this month. Real life got in the way." But the other 10 Months they have to come up with (approx) 200 points of painted and based figures. That is 200 points for 10 of the next 12 months.

At the end of each month a new thread will appear for the painters to post your previous months painting.

In twelve months time we will all end up with a finished 2000 point army.
(Or at least everyone who can see it through to the end ... it's harder than you think!)

Men and Boys (and Infants!)

Because this is harder than you would think ... This year rather than try and hold everyone to 200 points a month we have decided to allow folks to join in and paint only 100 points a month. Whilst the goal for many remains getting a 2000 point army painted in a year the original and ongoing intention of this whole thing was to encourage and support folks to get stuff painted and 1000 points is better than no points! As a result we have two catagories. 'Men' (painting 200 points/month) and 'Boys' (painting 100 points/month).
I have also added a list for the 'Infants' or Warmaster painters.

The Painters:

Just keep on posting. Now worries, I still got you in my file here, and you'll be added back in the end.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q : Am I too Late? Can I still Join in?
A : No you are not too late. Yes you can still join in. Just post on this thread saying which army and how many points you intend to paint.

Q : Can I paint more than 200 points in a month?
A : Yes (we are not here to tell you how and when to paint your stuff, it is great to get ahead) BUT we would like you only to post 200 points (approx) each month and try to stay roughly on track with 200 points a month (200 points in month 1, 400 points by month 2, 600 points by month 3, etc.) so as not to depress the hell out of those of us who are struggling to keep up.

Q : Can I paint less than 200 points in a month?
A : Yes. But we try to stay on track by painting more points in the next month to 'catch up'. For example oif you only painted 100 points one month you could try and get 300 points painted the next month. Equally if you paint more one month you can take it easy and paint less the next month.

Q : What happens when I paint an expensive character?
A : This happens a lot. If your character was over 400 points you would simply paint him over two months (the sort of time your general deserves!) So You start posting him one month and post nothing the first month (unless you want to post WIP) then the second month you post the finished model and all the points get added on.

Q : Can I include a short narrative with each months post.
A : Yes. Write much as you like. We love background. write as much as you like it will be read and enjoyed by many.

Army: High Elves

This Month: 5 Sea Guards, with champion, and 5 White Lions.

Points: 150

Total Points: 1912 + 150 = 2062

Painting: I started the Maiden Guards back in June and didn't finish them unit early this month. The White Lions were painted over a couple of days before a tournament. I've also touched up the bolt thrower from last month as well as finishing the crew.

It feels great having finished the tale, it has really helped me getting into painting, and it has made me enjoy it for the first time ever. Even though the units that got painted wasn't the ones that I had planned when I started I'm still very satisfied with them. Big thanks to everyone involved, whether you made it all the way or not!

I'll be back in the next tale with another 2000 or so points of High Elves, so no resting here!

Army: Averland Empire (Huzzah!)

Units this month - 10xFlagellants(100pts) - 6xKnights Panther (138pts)

Grand Total = 2399 pts (woo hoo!)

Highs/Lows - Finished the army! That is all!

See y'all for the next tale - now where did I put those Ogres?

Army: Dark Elves

Units: 6 Witch elves (unit filler)
1 Repeater Bolt Thrower
11 Corsairs
11 Xbowmen (one of whom was awol when it came to taking pictures!)

Points: 380

Total Points: 380 + 1502 =1182 - oh well, magic weapons for everyone!!

Painting: Finally got the green the way I wanted it, on the final month...lol!

Basing: Couldn't finish this months basing because I haven't varnished the models yet, but I put some snow on the finished models.

I also knocked up some movement trays for the Black Guard and cavalry, and textured some old GW ones I had lying around for the other units. Also techincally not finished due to lack of varnish

Varnishing: I gave all the models I had previously painted a coat of Halfords lacquer followed by Humrol acrylic matt varnish. It leave that models a little more satin than I'd like, but its good protection ( when I see metal models touching it makes me want to cry )

Total Points: 380 + 1502 =1182 - oh well, magic weapons for everyone!!

If you give a point value for those items that I can put in the charts (just add it for this final month), you'll earn yourself an official place in the Hall of Fame.

ARMY: Empire

Level 2 Wizard on warhorse
3 Knights of the Realm (to complete a unit of 15)

Points 179 this month - Total 1021 - Finished

Highs: Finishing 1000 pts in what turned out to be a very busy year.

Lows: Breaking off and losing the wizard's horse's tail immediately after finishing the model

03-08-2010, 14:31

Army Lizardmen:

Model: Scarvet w/ great weapon, light armor (96 points)

Ok so I know I was done but I couldn't help but at least paint one more model ;)

Hats off to everyone who made it to the end of the tale, and even to those that just got a single model painted. The goal of this thread is to get models painted and it doesn't have to be an army to be a success :)

(On a side note I got my 40k stuff painted in time and won the tournament :D Now it's time to think about the next tale...)

04-08-2010, 12:43
I've painted another 5 black orcs, 3 fanatics and 2 goblin heros but my laptop has died! I'll get some pics up as soon as I can and try and get a finished army shot as well. It's supposed to be getting picked up tomorrow so hopefully it'll be back some time next week.

Just wanted you to know I wasn't dead and had actually finished!

04-08-2010, 17:10
I'm hoping to rollover my Lizards to the next log :) 8th Ed has really messed up my army list!

Painted/constructed this month (pics on the way now I've found my camera charger!):

24 Saurus undercoated, Engine of the Gods put together and undercoated, 8 Skink Skirmishers converted and undercoated - modelled to be coming out of water, I'm using these guys as Chameleon Skinks.

Edit: added a shot of my wip Skinks and a high Elf because I'm a hobby magpie :)

Desert Rain: Not so hot about the post counting as a model, but otherwise they are painted very well :)

Fabius Bile: The army looks great and looking forward to the ogres :)

Inquisitor Pariah: Those converted crossbowmen looks great, and the unit filler is yum.

gsmc: Sucks when a model breaks right after you finish it... I have extra horse tails in my bitz box so I can give you one if you can't find it.

Vaiuri: The skinks look cool and it must have been a pain to cut them just right. Only issue I have is that they will look out of place on the board if not on a swamp ;)

Comment time!

@Desert Rain - Congratulations on making it to the end of the tale! You have a very nice and neat, consistent style to your entire army - Well Done!:)

@Inquisitor Pariah - I love your unit filler, very characterful, though I admit my first thought was......... "A SHRUBBERY!":D
Again, you have a very neat, consistent look to your army - Well Done!

@GSMC - Well done on making it to the end (not so many of us have this year!) - I love the banner for the swordsmen unit - Well Done!

@Malorian - Nice Scar Vet w/great weapon - bring on the new tale!

@Vaiuri - Nice idea with the skinks, I did something similar when the rules for Chameleon Skink units appeared in WD, before there was a model released (apart from Oxyotl!).

10-08-2010, 05:09
I've finished my Ogres for the month but I'm currently lacking a working computer with the camera program installed to post photos :p.

Hopefully I'll either find the installation disc to put it on this computer or manage to fix the other one by the end of the day.

10-08-2010, 05:45

Desert Rain: Fine Sea Guard - I hear they're more useful in 8th.

Fabius Bile: Very nice army. I like the contrast of the oh so shiny knights and the somewhat poxy flagellants

Inquisitor Pariah: Striking unit filler - volumeptuous. Certainly an army worth fighting.

Malorian: Just one more huh? We should have had a pool on whether you'ld paint another entire army this month. Look forward to playing the painted lizards. - thanks for the offer of the tail, but I think my knights are almost 50% manxed and time to move on to another race.

Vaiuri: I like the skinks a lot.

Fabius Bile: Very nice army. I like the contrast of the oh so shiny knights and the somewhat poxy flagellants

Yeah, that contrast is exactly what I was aiming for. Speaking of Flagellants, I saw a rather excellent movie last night - "Black Death", starring Sean Bean as a Knight sent to investigate why a particular medieval village has been spared the ravages of the plague. Quite near the beginning, the Knights retinue comes across a travelling band of flagellants, complete with holy relic. Definitely a warhammer movie, and one I highly recommend!:D

Vaiuri: The skinks look cool and it must have been a pain to cut them just right. Only issue I have is that they will look out of place on the board if not on a swamp ;)

Yeah I thought of that then chickened out of resculpting the tails and eyes

I have some Skink Cohorts I rediscovered that I can have a practice sculpting on, but for now my swampy skinks make great Chameleon stand-ins (I'm just too tight to pay for the metal!).

Army: Warriors of chaos

Units: 10 warriors of slaanesh with champ and blasted standard

Points: 222

Total Points: 2027

Still need to base the whole army but have only had 3 free days in the last 2 months. Also need to finish all of the standards.

13-08-2010, 18:22
We still need at least 11 more posts! They are soooo close to finishing!

14-08-2010, 11:26
Still trying to fix my other computer...

The Ogres are done I tell you!

Hey guys,
Although I finished back in March (or was it April), and posted some fuzzy pictures back in June when I took my army to a tournament, I'm back to post some more. I've got closer shots of the units that take me up to 2500 points, as well as some new shots of my entire army (I won't necessarily say better though :().

Thanks for an enjoyable tale, I've already signed up to the next one with the vile Beastmen.

Army : Dogs of War
Units : 20 Mercenary Dwarves, 8 Duellists, 1 Mercenary Cannon, a few more Lumpin Croops Fighting Cocks.
Points: 210 + 72 + 85 + 14 = 381
Total Points : 2946 (Slightly different as I have different equipment on my characters compared to when I originally finished them for the Tale).

You can also find closer shots of the entire army by following these links.

Someone: I love your Dwarf Merc banner :)

Vintila: Have you got plasticard flag stones on those Warriors? I really like that idea, have you done that on any of your other Chaos models?

Fabius: I LOVE the tiger-skin cloak on your Knight, I've always struggled to get the stripes looking good, but yours looks great!

Malorian: Hehe, I do that all the time, but I tend to get distracted by other races >.< That Scar Vet looks mean, I like the great weapon conversion.

Pariah and GSMC: Great looking armies, I bet it feels good to be finished!

15-08-2010, 14:24
Here's my final army for this tale:

Army: Lizardmen

Saurus Oldblood
Ogre Blade, Armour of Destiny, Potion of Speed and a Shield - 246 points

Skink Priest
Level 2, Dispel Scroll, Ruby Ring of Ruin - 150 points

(2x) 20 Saurus
Spears, Full Command - 270 (x2) points

6 Cold One Riders
Full Command - 260 points

Stegadon - 235 points

4 Terradon Riders - 120 points

3 Kroxigor
Champion - 185 points

15 Skink Skirmishers
Brave - 111 points

2 Razordons - 150 points

Total Points - 1997

Highs: Realising I actually had 2000 points painted. Having 2 big blocks of Saurus fully painted, I really like to see infantry units finished! Converting and painting my Saurus character. Converting the Cold One Riders.

Lows: Realising that I've totally changed my army list for 8th ed and I have a LOT of work to do to paint my new army. The Terradons and Razordons - I really didnt like painting these models and it shows.

Pic of the final thing!

http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/9237/dsc00448tm.th.jpg (http://img34.imageshack.us/i/dsc00448tm.jpg/)

Some honorable mentions:

My Slann, painted over 7 years ago and has had quite a new lease of life in 8th Ed.

http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/9522/dsc00449n.th.jpg (http://img153.imageshack.us/i/dsc00449n.jpg/)

And a shot of a converted Seeker of Slaanesh. I really liked the Seeker mounts and thought I'd have a play turning them into something for my Lizards. I'll probably use these as Salamanders

http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/8030/dsc00452hf.th.jpg (http://img710.imageshack.us/i/dsc00452hf.jpg/)

I gave them arms that my BF had left over from some Ghouls and sculpted a lower jaw on. The tongues that normally come out of the nose is now in the mouth and I green stuffed nostrils in. I had to carve off the saddle which left a bit of a mess on the creatures back, this is one of the more successful attempts to re-green the back, a couple of the others I've done are really ropey, but not so bad that a cunning paint job wont disguise it! Sculpting teeth is a bit of a pain, glueing them into the mouth is even worse! Any tips on that would be greatly appreciated!!!

http://img580.imageshack.us/img580/7535/dsc00453w.th.jpg (http://img580.imageshack.us/i/dsc00453w.jpg/)

Finally, my 'to do' list:

20 Temple Guard (currently undercoated)

Expand one unit of 20 Saurus to 24 (models base-coated)

24 Saurus (Variously undercoated and put together)

8 Chameleon Skinks (begun painting)

2 Old Kroxigor (to expand an old regiment from 4 to 6, these are undercoated and ready to go!)

Engine of the Gods (undercoated)

Skink Chief on Steg (put together)

5 Slaaneshi Salamanders (put together, needs more sculpting)

See you in the next tale!

16-08-2010, 01:47
Someone: I love your Dwarf Merc banner :)

Thankies. To be honest, it's not 'quite' done. I wanted rune letters for "Gold Lust" to be in the big red section above the gold, but in the end just didn't get around to doing it.
But yeah, definately put a fair bit of work into that, planned and painted it out on paper first to make sure I wasn't doing something silly!

16-08-2010, 17:03
I'm going to be submitting a last-minute entry again at the end of the month (sorry), so I thought I'd write comments now.

@Braad - I don't think you spotted my (very) late entry last month: 465pts
Total: 1305pts. And sorry to be picky, but in Month#3 my points contribution was 210, not 200 (every point counts at this stage!)

@Desert Rain - Congratulations! The whole army looks terrific.

@Fabius Bile - Love those Knights Panther. Congrats on finishing your army. It looks really characterful.

@Inquisitor Pariah - Ooh la la! She'll catch her death. Great looking army, though. Well done!

@gsmc - Congratulations on finishing. I like the gold knights. And I've just noticed the flagellants - cool!

@Malorian - You just can't leave it, can you? ;)

@Joseph Vintilla - Congratulations on finishing. Great looking army. Love the colour scheme.

@someone2040 - That's one great looking army. Love their coherent colour scheme which ties all the varied troops together. Good stuff!

@Vaiuri - Fabulous looking army. Well done on reaching 2000pts.

Now, back to the painting. I've got 695pts left to do!

16-08-2010, 21:57
The steed of Slaanesh conversion is gorgeous. It looks much more like a sinewy riding lizard than the standard lizard mounts. If you do another one, I'd love to see a step by step pictorial.

17-08-2010, 13:38

I'll have a loot at the others I've done. I'm not likely to buy any more now, but its suprisingly simple to do :) I'll try take some more detailed photos to show you what I've done.

Fabius Bile: The army looks great, congratulations on finishing!

Inquisitor Pariah: Lovely unit filler, and a wonderful army.

gsmc: Interesting colour on the horse's cloth thing, and congratulations for making it!

Malorian: I like the great weapon conversion, wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of that!

Vaiuri: Nice conversions on the skinks, and the HE looks promising.

Joseph Vintala: I like the purple on the warriors, and congratulations on finishing!

someone2040: The army looks great, well done!

Vaiuri (again ;)): Great army, I really like the albino Slann.

Comments on the comments

Desert Rain: Not so hot about the post counting as a model, but otherwise they are painted very well :)
Thanks :) The post is justa temporary solution until the next tale when I'll do even more Maiden Guards.

Desert Rain: How did I miss your elves?!? I see what Malorian means about the post ^^ Still, with the new box set I'm thinking about dusting off my various elves and giving my dragons and chariots a lick of paint - advice from an elven veteran such as yourself would be much appreciated!

What would you recommend as starting unit sizes? I'm working on 12 Silver Helms currently (Chariot horses, SH Elves with some sculpted gems and Empire feathers) - too many?

And what do you think of Princes on monsters?

Aghgh, so many questions!

Ontopic: lovely army, cat wait to see more!

Thanks Vaiuri, I'll continue my High Elves in the next ToFP, you could also check out my painting log which there is a link to in my sig.

I sent you a PM about the High Elves questions.

When stormclouds gather in the north, rough winds come in from the Sea of Claws, winter takes the land in its icy grip and all memories of grass and grain are buried under relentless drifts of snow, lesser men would lock themselves in their huts, cling to their ovens and pray to their weak gods for the mercy of springtime and sun.
When the wolves howl in the long, cold nights and the forces of the accursed powers pour into the lands of the Empire, the men of Middenheim do not seek shelter, they do not hide, but they march out to face their ancient enemy as they have done countless times before.
Hear, as they go to war, the warm puffs of their breath carrying their voices into the darknes, hear their battle call: "March for Ulric! For the City of the White Wolf! And for all of mankind!"

Regrettably I'm a bit overwhelmed at the moment and doing the snow on the bases proved to be more work than I expected. So for now a picture of my armies/army with only a few bases finished.

22-08-2010, 11:19
Hm, I think I killed the thread. :cries:

Maybe some comments can revive it:

@Desert Rain: Your army looks great, I hope that in twelve months time I'll have a similar bunch of High Elves finished.

@Fabius Bile: Nice tiger cloak. I'm looking forward to seeing your Ogres in the next Tale.

@Inquisitor Pariah: I'm sure the unit filler will draw quite a bit of attention in your games.

@gsmc: Congrats on finishing. Why did you choose the tinny colour of your wizard's horse's barding?

@Malorian: You make it seem so easy...

@Vaiuri: Those skinks emerging from the bases are damn cool. Should I ever decide to add Lizardmen to my ever expanding list of armies, I will borrow that idea.

@Joseph Vintila: The purple and bronze go well together. I love painting purple...

@someone2040: Very cool banner for your Dwarfs, and nice work on the duellists. Those are made mainly from the archer kit, right?

So, it looks like there's 9 of us finishing this year's tale, so well done us. Interesting to note that there is around 250 signed up for next year already - any bets as to how many will be left standing, this time next year? Hopefully more than this year anyway lol!:eyebrows:

I took a look at the old sign-up thread and there were 176 armies signed up for this Tale.
So yes, I think we can expect a few more to finish next year. Twelve maybe. :(

So just over 5% finished the tale?
That seems kinda low.

22-08-2010, 23:24
Hey, don't count me out yet. I'm still painting my butt off here. I might be able to get the number of finalists up into double figures!

23-08-2010, 05:45
I'm done, but trying to get pictures with a camera that has a thirty second battery life and an old desktop that lasts maybe ten minutes before smelling of burning dust :p.

I should probably invest in a new camera for the new TOFP :p.

23-08-2010, 08:55
It's not as bad as it seems. 22 armies were finished in men's, 21 in boyz. Some already were done earlier so don't show up now, or painted several armies, and others got lost haflway in the men's section but still did finish enough to have a boyz army done.

I'll attempt some comments later on, but first got to put all new entries from the sign up threads in my excel sheet. Just got back from a week of vacation.

ENorton: How are you doing the snow? I'm trying to plan a nice basing scheme for my Empire and am torn between marsh or snow. I've done snow in the past using the GW stuff with a bit of glitter added - how do you do yours? And have you had any problems with colour bleed?

I finally beat the time limits my dying instruments set for me to bring you this one blurry image! :p

They were just blu-taced to the bases at this point, hence the one on the right looking like he's falling over.

No army shot though, my camera wasn't that generous :(.

This brings me to a total of 1036 points.

I'll write up comments tonight but for now I have a lab report I should be writing up .

All right, a bit late but I'm finally done.

Army: Dwarfs

This Month: Another Gyrocopter, a current one this time, and 10 Longbeards with Great weapons and shields.

Points: 280

Total Points: Now I’ve changed my list up again, as I thought I may as well put the extra miners and slayers that I painted at the same time in the list, so that bumps me up to 2291 total points.

Painting: Same again from everything else, although I changed the recipe for gold on the Longbeards, I did the Gryphonne sepia over mithril silver trick I read on a thread on here somewhere.

Highs: Finally finishing an army! and I love the Longbeard models.

Lows: None really, i'm still stoked I've finished.

So the finished Throng is as follows:

Dwarf Lord with GW and runes – 271

Dwarf Thane with Battle Std and runes – 169

Runesmith - 147

Dragon slayer -125

21 Dwarf Warriors with Full Command and shields – 214

18 Longbeards with full command, great weapons, and shields – 327

10 Thunderers – 140

23 Slayers with full command – 253

20 Miners with full command – 245

Bolt thrower with engineer and runes – 120

2 Gyrocopters - 280

Either I missed a few of your posts, or you bumped it up a lot...
But I'll just put those extra points in month 11 or something.

We are still missing the final entry from:

Where art thou?

Heh, that I kept losing my list was my main problem, so every time I posted my points changed.

But I promise I won't change them now. Yeah it was the extra slayers and miners that put me up and over.

I'm back!...twice in a month

I didn't want to leave my army short of 2000 points so here I present another hero (yes, I am rules lawyering a painting thread with 8th edition rules!)

Units: Hero with Great Weapon and Pendant of Khaeleth

Points: 118

Total Points: 1502 + 380 (earlier this month) + 118 (later this month) = 2000

Ok, I thought I'd better do my comments now.

Firstly grats to all who have finished, and I'm stoked to have squeaked in as well.

@Desert Rain: Great looking elves, they look so clean.

@Fabius Bile: I like the tiger pelts, and looks great all together.

@Inquisitor Pariah: Love the old school models, the skin on the WE looks great too, also like the old hero.

@gsmc: Looks good all together, and nice to see the old and new swordsmen don't clash badly.

@Malorian: Great looking scarvet, I might have to do something similar with mine.

@Joseph Vintila: That purple armour looks really nice, well as nice as chaos warriors can be...

@someone2040: That Dwarf standard is great man, the whole army looks awesome together as well.

@Vaiuri: The whole army looks great man, love the green.

@EmperorNorton: Wow, that looks awesome. I love that wide shot.

@Doi: Good looking ogres man.

Thank you :)

Hope to see you all in the next tale!!! Is anyone continuing with the armies here or starting something new?

31-08-2010, 12:11
I'll be continuing with my Ogres again.

And have been having nasty, evil thoughts about possibly, maybe adding 1000pts to my Goblin Cavalry from TOFP 2...

31-08-2010, 13:13
I HAVE FAILED!!! :cries:

My final points total is 1305.
Please relegate me to the namby pamby little boys league.

All those jokers earlier on in the year have come round to bite me. I left too many points to paint in my last few months and it's proved an impossible task, especially since I left all the cool converted characters and special stuff until the end, and they've demand a lot more work than I expected.

Never mind. I will be continuing my Dark Elves next year, where hopefully I'll be able to have a joker-free year.

All in all, though, I'd say the TOFP ("Tragedy of a Failed Painter" in my case) has been incredibly worthwhile. 1305pts is still 1305pts more than I would have got round to doing without this.

Thank you to all those who have offered support and encouragement, and especially to Braad for all the record keeping - good job dude. And well done to everyone who managed to go the distance - it's been great watching people's armies take shape.

For the sake of closure, here's a picture (the same picture from last month) of my army.

Sadly i failed as well, even in the namby pamby boys league. Still, i do have 900pts more Empire painted than i started with so thats a success! I got stuck converting my final unit then had school, other painting projects, and Starcraft 2 get in the way. Great job to everyone who did finish!

31-08-2010, 17:34
If this thread made you paint even one model then it's a success in my books.

Heh, sorry about that.

I'm continuing on with my Dwarfs, as I've got a whole load of them to paint.

I'll be continuing my High Elves, hopefully with another 2000 points. However, my realistic side says that 1000 is more reasonable.

My stupid laptop is still broken. I'm round my girlfriends this week so I should be able to get some pics taken at home and have them up by the weekend but that's clearly well past the deadline.

The laptop is in for repair at the minute but Dixons are really dragging their feet. I rang them up for the first time like two and a half weeks ago!

Well, this is it. Those who finished at least 1000 points:

They're also in my sig now.
