Ello ello ello!

Welcome to our Tale of Four Games, the redux, version 2.0, with 5 participants! The GW Plaza edition!

I'm sure you all know know how TO4G works so i won't elaborate, except to say that our TO4G will be updated not monthly but weekly, or even when ever one of us just has something to post!

The participants for this particular TO4G are;

Gary "Comrade Igor" D. - Woodies (later Darkies too)
Tom "Morfius" L. - Lizzies
Tom "Chugger (?)" P. - Ratsies
Rafael "Rafazza" H. - Humies
Craig J. - Daemons and Woodies.

A quick intro by each participant will follow shortly, then it's all about the updates!

I hope you enjoy our TO4G, make sure you let us know what you think. We'll try our best to keep you entertained. :)

And to make sure you guys understand how serious we are about what we do, here's a pic to sum it up.

Alright, so.. Perhaps i should let you all know that i've been suffering a bit of indecisiveness lately. Everything i paint i'm not happy with, the only difference is the level of dissatisfaction varies.

Here's an example. These pics are of a unit of archers and a unit of dryads which i've painted to a winter scheme and decided to scrap the idea. For some reason, i don't like it much.

http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/3915/61525433.jpg (http://img214.imageshack.us/i/61525433.jpg/)

http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/8793/23536207.jpg (http://img232.imageshack.us/i/23536207.jpg/)

I've decided to go back to a more common scheme, shown here;

http://img202.imageshack.us/img202/3239/60186153.jpg (http://img202.imageshack.us/i/60186153.jpg/)

I'm relatively pleased with the test model, although there are flaws which i will address when i paint the rest of the unit (in the background). The flesh recipe isn't great and gives poor coverage. The bone colour on the bow needs more depth, as does the brown. I think that's it. The base will be done in a forest-y scheme when i track down some clump foliage.

So what do you guys think?

Oh and here are some experiment for my new DE army, neither of which i am happy with (surprise surprise.. )

http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/2023/99923942.jpg (http://img246.imageshack.us/i/99923942.jpg/)

I think i'll wait until the new Dark Eldar come out a kitbash my warriors. Part of the reason why i can't get my scheme right is because i don't like the current warrior models. Stay tuned for COOL CONVERSIONS in the coming months.

That's it for this time.

Hi all, I'm unable to post a test model for this bout of tale of four gamers due to throne of skulls painting commitments unfortunately. But I've been thinking hard about the type of list I want to assemble and have more-or-less nailed down a colour scheme. I am going to be working on a lizard list over the coming months, but with a twist. There will be no frog! Having played around with the lizardmen book and a calculator, I discovered just how much you can get into a 2000pts list if you don't sink 400+ points into one lord choice. Since my tale of 4 gamers (To4G from now on!) will revolve around building and painting a competitative list I thought I'd start off by giving you all the list I'm working towards. It is worth noting at this point that the following list had input from Gary, another To4gamer in this group:

Oldblood - Light Armour, Shield, Sword of Strife, Dragonhelm, Glyph Necklace, Potion of Strength

Saurus Scar vet - BSB, Halberd, Armour of Destiny
Skink Priest - Lvl 2, Dispel Scroll

24 Saurus - FC
24 Saurus - FC
10 Skink Cohorts - FC
10 Skink Skirmishers
10 Skink Skirmishers
10 Skink Skirmishers
10 Skink Skirmishers

5 Chameleons
5 Chameleons
3 Terradons

2 Salamanders
2 Salamanders

I'm looking to do an almost entirely plastic force if I can. I think I'll have to use metal models for the Cameleons, because they're great models and I can't think of a viable conversion alternative. I also may have to do metal sallies, unless I can come up with a cool cold one conversion, we'll have to see on that one. Otherwise I'm looking at Temple Guard conversions for my Saurus characters and the priest off the Steg for my Skink Priest. I'm also drawing up plans for gargoyle-based terradons which could work quite well!

I'm also going to go for scenic resin bases for this army. I've found some great-looking, cheap temple-floor ones here: https://sslrelay.com/www.foundationsofwar.co.uk/sess/utn;jsessionid=154ca8dff073130/shopdata/index.shopscript

Now to the colour scheme! My current plans are for bright yellow skin and purple scales/crests/shields. The weaponry will be painted in a dark, grey/black stone colour schem which will match cracked temple bases. I'm also going to convert up some unit fillers for the Saurus from the Steg bits I'll have left over from my plastic priest. The first unit I'm attempting is just a Skink Skirmish unit. I will start this next weekend (11/10/10) after Throne of Skulls. So hopefully have some models posted that week!

Just a note to add, I'm hoping to start Vampire Counts before christmas as well (some of the new Dark Eldar models are in my sights for conversions). So pictures of that may well be appearing on here too!

Hmmm ignore that.

Thought I'd say hi.

So, along with Craig, I appear to have 6 weeks to paint 2000pts, so not got any pictures to put up yet, hopefully tomorrow (Wednesday at the latest)

A bit about me: well, very much a gamer rather than a painter, I really struggle painting units (though love painting characters (love may be too strong a word)). Despite having High Elves, Lizardmen and Skaven, I have decided to try out the Empire for the first time. Inspired by some of Gary's conversions I'm going for an Ostland theme.

So the plan is to get 2000pts of Empire to a gaming standard asap. Once that is done I can do more work on them, and begin work on my Skaven (or Lizardmen), both of which I am looking forward to painting.

I'm still unsure what will be in the 2000pts, so I have gone safe and started on a unit of 20 crossbowmen for now.

As I said, hopefully pictures coming soon! Thoughts and advice will be more than welcome.

You definitely aren't satisfied easily are you Igor? I think the dryads look great. The new scheme looks better I think.
I like things like this so I will follow it closely.

Quick update from me;

Managed to finish painting a unit and applied a coat of varnish too. There are only 9 of them but they took what seemed like the best part of forever, so much detail! But as an optimist i always look on the bright side, only 51 more to go... Oh dear.

Bases pending until i visit the hobby shop and buy some appropriately forest-y foliage, probably on monday. Unit of dryads next most likely.

Hopefully the others will post some pics soon aswell, but only if they stop making excuses and actually paint something!! ;)

Excellent wood elves. You can make foliage by gluing down oregano and painting it.

Another quick-ish update from me, this time i have done the bases.

A brief trip to the hobby store was needed to stock up on hobby goodness;

http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/6208/26906865.jpg (http://img515.imageshack.us/i/26906865.jpg/)

And then, after a few unsuccessful tries at basing (first i mixed both types of foliage and some static grass into one summer mega-mix, but it proved to be too bright) i came up with some simple to do but also rather effective looking bases which i'm really pleased with.

http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/4812/31503249.jpg (http://img710.imageshack.us/i/31503249.jpg/)

Next on the agenda is stripping paint from plastic models (GG) with acetone-free nail varnish, i sure hope it works!

I would LOVE a step by step on your Glade Guards! You seem to use the same colours as I do, but your stuff just looks SO much better. For some reason I have the feeling your techniques aren't all that complicated (such as the very strong highlighting), but dangit, it just works!!

Did you ink them as well? For some reason, the Camo Greenish loin cloths shading and highlight catch myu eye. How did you do that?

Oh, and nice basing as well!

So... What colours did you use? Help would be more than appreciated!

Comrade Igor

I don't have time for a step by step right now but i'll tell you the colours. You are right that my techniques are indeed simple and it's just a cast of picking the right colours and edge highlighting.

The Camo green is infact Foundation Gretchin Green with a Thraka Green Wash (1:1 wash/water). The mid green is Foundation Knarloc Green with Thraka Green/Badab Black wash (1:1:1 wash/wash/water). The dark green is Snot Green/Dark Angels Green (1:1) with a Thraka Green/Badab Black wash (1:3:1 wash/wash/water). Highlighting on everything is done by re-applying basecoat to the edges as 1st layer then basecoat + lighter colour mix as 2nd layer.

Washes are generally very good for shading, you just have 'paint' with them rather than 'washing', make doubly sure that the paint does not pool and remove it if it does.

Tell me if there is anything else you'd like to know.

Oh an here are some day-time pics with flash, so you can see the colours better;

Hi, i'm going to be trying to put together a 1500pt Skaven army for January in this blog. Bit of a slow start... my excuse is having to put together a whole bunch of *hack... spit* 40K tyranid models for a client, here they are http://ato4gplaza.blogspot.com/2010/10/brood-sculpted-broodlord.html. Actually been quite enjoying it so working on some genestealer cult stuff for myself.

In january i'll be going to AGOM4 at warhammer world, i'm hopeing this army will get a 'best army' nomination so thats the goal.

Here's the list i'm building:

Greyseer/ skalm, channeling staff, opal amulet
Cheiftain/ BRB, shield, stormbanner
Engineer/ironcurse icon
Engineer/dragonbane gem
2 units Clanrats/ 25 skaven, banner, musician, rattling gun/warpfire thrower
Slaves/ 41 skaven, musician
2 units Gutterrunners/ 5 skaven, poison, slings

Here's the first test pieces i've done, still got to add a few details and it sucks posting after Gary's intimidatingly well painted work but feedback would be great.

Slave with manicles+rat (gonna have a whole bunch off the critters running around) http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qrmGBJdiOCM/TLtOehaFoqI/AAAAAAAAAsQ/DYfN-0IR7Pk/s1600/baserat%2Bchains.jpg

Slave tests http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qrmGBJdiOCM/TLtOe0tAhoI/AAAAAAAAAsY/qLpqDPyP3ig/s1600/slaves.jpg

Clanrat tests http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qrmGBJdiOCM/TLtOgdoYQWI/AAAAAAAAAsg/TZzN0JDby2k/s1600/testrats.jpg

Started a Warlord on warlitter (+ extra rats), he's not in the list so probably won't be finnished any time soon http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qrmGBJdiOCM/TLtOhSaUI4I/AAAAAAAAAso/AiO0ijhp0po/s1600/warlord1.jpg

After doing these test i'll work on some gutterrunners.
