View Full Version : The Tale of 40k Painters 2010-2011 MONTH 2 (& NOV WIP)

01-11-2010, 06:48
Welcome to the Tale of 40k Painters 2010-2011!

What is the Tale all about?
The aim of the Tale of Painters is to get an army fully painted within the next 12 months.

For most 40k armies the size will be somewhere between 1000 and 2000 points, but you can go higher if you want to (and you're crazy enough)! BFG and Epic armies will be slightly different, but as long as you choose an appropriate sized army for your game system then there's no problem.

Once you've chosen your army, your target is to paint roughly 10% of your army each month. For example, if you've chosen a 2000 point army then your monthly target would be 200 points. The Tale runs for one year (September 2010 to August 2011), so if you stick to your 10% monthly target then you'll only need to paint for 10 months of the year.

To cover the months when you can't/don't paint, you get 2 'Jokers'. You can play a 'Joker' at any time (provided you haven't used them both up!), which essentially means that you don't have to meet your target for that month. They can used for real life events (such as births, deaths, marriages, exams, holidays) or if you're just having a bad/slow month. If you use a 'Joker' then feel free to post a suitable image instead (a Joker or something funny).

What is this thread all about?
This thread is to be used as the completed work thread for October, up until the 7th. Please only post last month's completed work until the 8th.

On the 8th it will then become the work in progress (wip) thread for November. Feel free to post any wip pictures of what you're going to be painting this month, army lists, background stories, battle reports, questions, and comments on anyone else's posts. You can post as little or as much as you like in the wip thread, but please keep it wip. Do not post any completed work for November until the next thread opens at the start of December. The next thread will start out as to place the post your completed entries for this month, and after the deadline (initially set as the 7th of each month) will become the next wip thread.

If you have not posted by the 8th, then you will have to use one of your 'Jokers'. If you have failed to post by the 8th and have already used up both of your 'Jokers' (only applicable from December onwards), then unfortunately you will be out of the Tale.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q : Am I too Late? Can I still Join in?
A : No, you are not too late! Yes, you can still join in! Just post in this thread (after the 7th) stating which army and how many points you intend to paint. The second month's work (painted in October) was due to be posted at the start of November, but you could play your two 'Jokers' (see above) for September and October and start painting from November (to be posted at the start of December).

Q : Can I paint more than 10% of my army in a month?
A : Yes, you aren't bound by the rules of the Tale, and it's great to get ahead. BUT, we would like you only to post 10% (approx) each month and try to stay roughly on track with 10% per month. For example, if you're painting 2000 points that means 200 points in month 1, 400 points by month 2, 600 points by month 3, etc. This way you won't depress those of us who are struggling to keep up.

Q : Can I paint less than 10% of my army in a month?
A : Yes, you aren't bound by the rules of the Tale, but we would like you to try to stay on track by painting more points in the next month to 'catch up'. For example, if you're painting 2000 points and you only painted 100 points one month you could try and get 300 points painted the next month. Equally if you paint more one month you can take it easy and paint less the next month.

Q : What happens when I paint an expensive character/tank/unit?
A : This happens a lot. If your character/tank/unit is over 10% of your army you could simply paint him/it/them over two months (the sort of time your general/tank/expensive unit deserves!). For example, last year my monthly target was 200 points and I painted a Stompa (600 points). I split painting the model into (roughly) 3 months of 200 points, posting new WIP shots each month.

Q : Do I have to use my 2 'Jokers' during the Tale?
A : No, you don't have to use them at all. If you can manage to paint/post for the full 12 months then congratulations, you'll have exceeded your target and truly embodied the spirit of the Tale!

Q : What's with the D6 roll in your post?
A : The D6 roll was an idea introduced in the last Tale to help ensure that everyone gets some comments on their work. If everyone rolls a D6 when they post (I use the D&D dice roller (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/dice/dice.htm) if I don't have a D6 to hand), then we should have six roughly equal groups each month. Then, if you comment on those people who rolled the same as you everyone will receive some feedback. So, if you roll a 1, comment on all of the other 1's, if you rolled a 2, comment on all of the other 2's, and so on. Of course, if you have the time/want to, there's nothing stopping you from commenting on anyone's/everyone's work.

I'll start off by posting an entry for October. Feel free to copy my post to use as a template (edited to suit your army), but as long as you post your Monthly total, Total to date, Unit(s) painted and a picture then that's fine.

If anyone has any other questions, please direct them to misterboff (me), GomezAddams or give_me_a_d.

misterboff's Imperial Guard: October 2010 (D6 roll = 1)

MONTHLY TOTAL: 345 POINTS (this post is just an example - I'm actually using a JOKER for October)

My colour scheme is grey Cadians, very roughly based on the Mobile Infantry from Starship Troopers.

Platoon Command Squad w/Medic, 2 Plasmaguns, Powerfist, Vox Caster - 110 points
Heavy Weapons Squad w/Missile Launchers - 90 points
Armoured Sentinel w/Plasma Cannon - 75 points
Primaris Psyker - 70 points

The Heavy Weapons Squad are on small bases (for ease of storage/transport), with no tripods for the Missile Launchers. The Primaris Psyker is the Lt. Varras model from the Battle for Macragge, his gene-seed case replaced with the Power Sword from the Cadian Command sprue (to count as a Force Weapon).

Most colours have 3 stages, either basecoat/highlight/wash or basecoat/wash/highlight. The bases are simply Vomit Brown followed by Citadel Sand.

Metal: Boltgun/Badab/Mithril
Black: Chaos/Adeptus/Badab
Dark Grey: Adeptus/Astro/Badab
Light Grey: Astro/Badab/Astro
Flesh 1: Tallarn/Orgyn/Bronzed
Flesh 2: Calthan/Ogryn/Snakebite
Yellow: Iyanden/Sunburst/Gryphonne
Light Brown: Dheneb/Ogryn/Bleached

I painted the Primaris Psyker's Force Weapon following the Power Weapon guide in WD369, using Mordian Blue, Hawk Turquoise, Bleached Bone and Asurmen Blue.

Nothing - hurrah! Although, I do want to add the Baneblade Commander to my IG force as a Commissar in the future (when I get a Baneblade to loot into a Skullhamma for my Deathskulls)...

Highs: Getting the rest of my Cadian Battleforce painted whilst I wait for the new Dark Eldar to arrive.
Lows: The Powerfist on the Cadian Command sprue is the only right handed ccw on there, but there aren't any left handed pistol arms or holsters - which was badly thought out! I didn't want my Platoon Commander to have the pointy stick, so in the end I just gave him the map/orders/shopping list instead. Also, the Force Weapon didn't turn out quite as well as I'd hoped.

It's time to get started with the new Dark Eldar and try to paint a box of Wyches...

[Heavy Weapons Squad, Platoon Command Squad, Armoured Sentinel, Primaris Psyker, Combined IG]

superawesomeraptorman's Tau: October 2010 (D6 roll = 4)

2 Broadsides Ė 1 x Team leader, target lock, hard-wired drone controller, twin linked rail-gun, smart missile system, advanced stabilization system, 2 x shield drone
1 x Broadside, twin linked rail-gun, smart missile system, advanced stabilization system - 200 (shield drones painted last month)

Added Sensory spines to the back of Broadsides, and shield generators to the sides of railguns

100% done

Highs: Progressed really far into the project, very very far - way ahead of schedule
Lows: Forced to gently clean many models - dirt and grime ruin the white -_-

Done novembers...and december...so starting jan's stuff! 8 pathfinders and 6 firewarriors

01-11-2010, 15:13
Mista Gav's Ravenwing: October 2010 (D6 roll = 2)

3 Ravenwing Bikers. 1 armed with a plasma gun, 1 'regular' biker and 1 sergeant with a power weapon

Standard build really though I did decide to mount the plasma gun on the bike instead of the rider holding it. I figured it must be hard for the rider to shoot while driving so attached it to the bike. Not sure if I'll do the same with the melta guns though.

Main armour: Chaos Black>Astronomican Grey>Badab Black wash>Astro grey highlight
Metal: Boltgun Metal>Badab Black wash>Chainmail highlight
Wings: Calthan Brown>Bleached Bone>Skull White>Gryphonne Sepia wash>Skull White highlight
Lights: Golden Yellow>Badab Black wash>reapply golden yellow
Red: Mechrite Red>Blood Red>Blazing Orange highlight
Plasma:Enchanted Blue>Badab Black Wash>Enchanted Blue>Skull White
Detail work: Skull white freehand squad number

Basing, this will be done much later

Highs: Power sword on th sergeant looks really great, my best power weapon so far! Also liked the 'wings' scheme on the bikes, adds nice contrast to the bike
Lows: Nothing major, I finished quite early so it would be nice to get back on the painting again.

2 regular bikers, an apothecary with plasma gun and a multi melta attack bike.

Mini77's Dead Suns Space Marines: October 2010 (D6 Roll = 5)

MONTHLY TOTAL: 450 points
TOTAL TO DATE: 615 points

DIY marine chapter.

Kor'Sarro Kahn (counts-as) (160 points)
Terminator Squad (5) (200 points)
Combat Squad (5) (90 points)

Terminators are from Space Hulk, with the Sergeant getting a bit of conversion with a new torso and head (I hate bare heads on TDA armour). The Kahn is made from the vanguard veteran with the relic blade, but with the torso removed with a razor saw and replaced with the chest, cloak and backpack from the space marine commander kit. There's some more pics here (http://www.rollwithit.org.uk/?p=1403).

These guys are finished.

Highs: Quite happy with how these all came together. I don't really use shooty terminators in 40k but these guys were too nice not to paint.
Lows: Removing the moulded terminator bases was tedious and painful.

Two land speeders and a razorback.

Zark the Damned

Zark the Damned and the aggressive expansion of Waaaagh Kargrak: September 2010 (D6 roll = 4)

MONTHLY TOTAL: 160 + 145 + 115 = 420 Points
TOTAL TO DATE: 485 + 420 = 905 Points

BACKGROUND/THEME: Waaagh Kargrak is a largely Goff Tribe currently undergoing aggressive expansion into Imperial space following the Green Kroosade.

This month his Meks have been busy with the Flyboyz, and some Badmoons have arrived to show support.

12 'Ardboyz, plus Nob with Power Klaw and Bosspole: 160 Points (to go along with last month's Trukk)
20 Shoota Boyz, 2 Big Shootas, Nob with Bosspole: 145 Points
2 Deffkoptas with Twin Linked Rokkits, 1 Buzzsaw: 115 Points

BUILD/CONVERSIONS: The Ardboyz are all converted from AOBR Boyz and an AOBR Nob, with Plasticard Armour. Klaw taken from the Boyz box.

The Badmoon Nob has had the old Metal Warboss Bosspole added, and his Slugga swapped out for a Shoota.

One of the Koptas uses a spare Deff Dredd CCW for the Buzzsaw.

Yellow Cloth: Iyanden Darksun -> Griffon Sepia Wash
Yellow Armour: Iyanden Darksun -> Cygnar Yellow (P3) Highlight -> Griffon Sepia Wash

Added Yellow to the colour list.

STILL TO DO: Having taken the photos I have noticed a couple of details needing a touch up (again!).

Highs: Realising how ace the Yellow looks with the checks.
Lows: Again the collossal piles of Plastic are being daunting.

NEXT MONTH: More Bad Moon Shoota Boyz in a Trukk (already got the Nob done), possibly some TankBustas and a Battlewagon! If I feel up to it I may even convert a Chinork.

Ardboyz united with their Trukk from last month.

Whirly flying doom.

Bananorks! Bad Moon Shootas

Start of the next Badmoon Squad, the Dakkanob!

djc's beastman guard (d6 roll: 6)

MONTHLY TOTAL: 190 points
TOTAL TO DATE: 335 points

Leman Russ Executioner

Lows: Had a bad month painting wise this month, and did hardly any of my planned painting.
Highs: Actually being able to submit something this month - until Wednesday I was sure I would be playing a joker this month (yay for being off work ill)

If I can manage it, 30 basic Guard. If not, another tank (probably a Manticore)

Inquisitor Pariah
01-11-2010, 20:39
ARMY: Epic Titan Legian (2000 points) Tau will follow

Warhound Titan

CONVERSION: I didn't have any plasma blastguns so I whipped up a couple out of wire and puty

PAINTING: I mixed up a batch of rusty red to use on all the models in the army, but with the wash it looks a wee bit shiny! I did enjoy washing the metals with chestnut ink though - made it fit with the red a bit better.

I had fun highlighting...but you can't really tell :(

Definitely going to have to Joker this month - had our first child a few weeks ago, and I'm just too damned tired. And happy. But mostly tired.

Tekore's Blood Angels: October 2010 (D6 roll = 6)

Ten Man Assault Squad with Two Meltaguns. Sergeant equipped with Powerfist.

The Sergeant is from the Space Marine Character Plastic Kit, and has greenstuff banner.

100% done

Highs: Got the first squad done. Reasonably pleased with highlighting and shading so far.
Lows: Need to assemble more marines.

Rinse and repeat. I'll need to get another Assault Squad done, although I have some assembled tanks to work on as well.

03-11-2010, 06:55
I have to play a Joker this month, had a nasty fight with drug resistant pneumonia and it really set me back!

Irondog's Orks

Total Painting for September '10: 190 points
Total Army Size: 375 points
Die Roll: 4

This month I decided to paint up a Forgeworld Mega Dread.

Only the base. In my opinion, the model itself is so damn cool it doesn't need any conversion, but I feel that any walker should have a base because of the way they interact in assault. The defiler is a pain in the ass to fight because there's always a question of "Well, am I in base-to-base or not since the damn thing doesn't have a base".

At any rate, I put some rare earth magnets in the feet of the Mega Dread and in the base as well. The base is the size of a CD, made from MDF board and textured with gravel and bits.

The metal areas you see are a Boltgun drybrush over a black undercoat, followed by a Mithril Silver edge highlight. The red areas are simply Blood red painted on in multiple layers to get an even tone, then banged up to look like weathering and battle damage. After the weathering was finished, I used washes of Badab Black and Devlan Mud to tone down the brightness of the red and to give the metal a dingy look.

I used a final wash of thinned Bestial Brown to add some mud/dirt, concentrating mostly on the legs and feet. Then I added some oily streaks to certain area with the old GW 'Flesh Wash'. The new washes are cool, but I do miss some of the older ink-based washes that they used to produce.

Gravel and pebbles, then painted with Bestial Brown, followed by drybrushes of Bubonic Brown and Bleached Bone in that order.

Still to Do:

Highs and Lows:

Highs: Getting this guy all finished up after sitting unassembled in a box for the better part of a year. I know... for shame.

Lows: Washing all the resin bits to remove the mold release is a pain in the butt.

04-11-2010, 04:15
Ok, so I know it says I have 0/2000 done for my wolves and 0/1000 for my daemons.. which is true... I have been painting like no tomorrow though. I have almost all of my space wolves base coated. I keep getting hung up on little finishing details on models. Its why Grimnar, 2 rune priests and 3 PA wolf lords and my GUO are still not done.

I am painting though!

04-11-2010, 18:52
So, my submission for this month:

Army: Imperial Guard
Target Size: 2000
Monthly Target: 200
Painted This Month: 240
Units Painted: Hellhound Tank, Infantry Squad 1 and Infantry Squad 2.
D6 Roll: 3
Comments For The Month: Well, I am really glad that I have 20 guardsmen done and that Hellhound has need paint for a long time.
Next Month: I am aiming for four squads of guardsmen, but would be happy with three as that would complete my first platoon.
I would like to apologise for the poor picture quality. I have had to change the place in which i take my pictures, but hopefully I will have it sorted for next month.
And, as ever comments and criticisms are more than welcome (so are compliments if you can make out the models!)

So, here are the pictures:

Squad 1

Squad 2

Hey all
This month I only have 3 stealthsuits completly done but I also did a load of basecoating and almost finished my drones. So thats 90 points + upgrades, I'm slightly behind pointswise but I will have a big month next or the month after.

October points 90
Total points 90+80 = 170
Painting DA green with snot green highlight and black washes. Black with astro grey highlight, details and cloth to match fire warriors.

Pictures aren't as good as reality :(

Still to do: on these just neaten some details.

Next month definately drones and probably something else. I need some help with vehicle, kroot and ethereal paintschemes so WIP later this month - please help if you can. Also can anyone suggest a base theme.

05-11-2010, 04:41

and i a jokered, unfortunatly i mgot my entire army this month...so it is going to take a while to get all together and going :p

05-11-2010, 11:35
I will be needing right up until the 7th to complete my entry.

05-11-2010, 11:39
Joker this month I'm afraid, been ridiculously busy at college :(

My Great Unclean One is close to finished. However none of the cameras we have can actually take close up shots worth a damn. Which will prove to be a problem.

05-11-2010, 14:03
Hi all

Unfortunately I'm still without real people internet access, which is bloody annoying as I spent most of yesterday getting it all done.

IMPERIAL GUARD - So far I have 10 ordinary guardsmen and 5 Combat suits (count as ogryns) which comes to... some points.

TAU - Only got a squad of pathfinders and a broadside done this month, being the lazy gomez that I am.

I'll replace this with a proper entry as soon as I can so bear with me guys.

Before I play a joker, I'm still wondering if I can add CSM and 1,000 points to my total... I painted a load of chaos troops for an Apocalypse game during the last month, including some Plague Squats, and would love to include them here.

Joker for me for this month I'm afraid.

I have gone on to make a load of base/undercoated models for my 2x 25 Ork troops, so hopefully that will make things easier for the next few months.

Will have to buy myself a dred or kanz as a reward at some point to help break up the size of painting so many units in one go. I do find it difficult to batch paint and therefore painting the same models over and over can become a bit of a chore.

06-11-2010, 16:02
keep up the work everyone, though we may be battered we are never broken. I'm sure we will see more posts now that everyone who is doing dark eldar has their stuff. Currently working on a big mek and whatever scraps of models I can find on my work/computer desk. I may be a day or two late but definitely posting

Dice roll this month 5

My colour scheme is a green / green grey Renegade Militia force based on the Imperial Armour Siege of Vraks (I) army list

HQ - Exalted Champion with Plasma Pistol, Vox caster, plasma gunner, Chaos banner bearer and standard militia man.

BUild is using the forgeworld renegade militia HQ unit.

Black undercoat on all figures.

The cloth element is painted using adeptus battle grey basecoat, followed by astronomican grey with a splash of Thrakka green was to tone down the colour, this is then washed with a one to one mix of baddab black and thrakka green wash.

The armour elements are base coat of orkhide shade followed by knarloc green with a thrakka green wash.

Metal is just boltgun metal washed with a 1/1 mix of baddab black and devlan mud.

Leather hood is simply scorched brown followed by vermin brown and a wash of devlan mud

Rust was originally painted on but is now forgeworld orange rust.

The eyes are blazing orange highlighted with white then with a wash of tamiya clear orange.

Blood on the exalted chamption is a mix of tamiya clear red and gw purple ink.

Oh lots and lots and lots, mostly sticking the arms to my armoured fist squad ready for undercoating for next month as well as cleaning up my renegade psykers

Highs: Getting a dedicated place to paint at my girlfriends place (thanks sweety) and completing my first unit, oh and getting the hang of weathering powders, and buying a stormlord to renegade up as well
Lows: knowing this is only the start

Armoured fist squad, i'll be very happy to get all that done

Enjoy peeps:

20 warriors 20 wyches 2 raiders 3 jetbikes Lelith and an Archon are now in my grubby little mitts.

Work to begin tomorrow. I cant wait. Im all `cited!!!

07-11-2010, 18:51
With some regret I'm using my 2nd joker. I had hoped to get enough done to post something but various things have put pay to that. While percentage-wise I could post a months worth none of it is actually finished so hopefully next month I can post and with some luck maybe a double.

If anyone is interested in my progress have a look at my daemons log - I took some pics of the horrors and bloodcrusher I've been working on this week.

Finally well done to those who did post this month and to those like me who didn't don't loose heart.

08-11-2010, 00:31
With a great degree of frustration I too am going to have to sacrifice my second joker...exam resits have claimed any time I had to spare but now I've finally been able to resurface expect big things next month...

08-11-2010, 01:24
vargojones - really outstanding stuff. Looking forward to seeing more.

08-11-2010, 02:59
Internet is just too dead to post pictures. So I'm going to have to joker another month... Next month hopefully we'll get somewhere (and exams will be done!)

08-11-2010, 05:11
perplexitiís Space Wolves: 2010 (D6 roll = 5)

UNIT(S): 5 Grey Hunters with melta Gun and power weapon with a Wolf Guard Pack Leader with a combi-melta and power fist

BUILD/CONVERSIONS: A mix of older plastics with some 2nd ed metals mixed through. The Wolf Guard is a classic metal. Now I know I can't use both power weapons in the pack anymore, but I was too lazy to break them off and I can pick and choose which one I want in my list now too.

PAINTING/BASING: I did the amour up from Fenris grey, to shadow grey, and a hefty dose of space wolf grey as I like the paler blue grey look. Metal details with a bit of gold on the wolf guard, but pretty much just a tabletop standard.

STILL TO DO: Just some of the snow on a couple of bases, Iíll get round to them when I do next months stuff probably.

HIGHS AND LOWS: No lows, I love the older metals, they have a character that some of the newer minis just donít have, although thatís not to say I donít like the new stuff!

NEXT MONTH: More Grey Hunters!

Plasma Pistol and Melta gunner.

Power fist and power axe.

Last Grey Hunter and Wolf Guard.

Army so far.

Going to use my two Jokers for the last two months. Dark Eldar stuff should arrive today and will get painting immediately! Sign me up for 1000 points.

08-11-2010, 09:44
Hey guys,

I'll just need a few more days to finish of some details and I also need to find my camera back. The death company marines are almost done. A real pleasure to paint that new kit from gw.

08-11-2010, 17:10
Hey folks,

Bit off a bit more than I could chew this month, instead of 8 genestealers and 5 khorne berzerkers I've been working on 8 genestealers, 10 khorne berzerkers and 20 hormagaunts.

All of which are, as a result, about half done. Hopefully I'll be able to keep at it and get them all finished in november. but in the mean time I guess it means I have to play a joker.

Ah Well.

I'll try and post some WIP pics later on, but for tonight I have to study for a data analysis exam tomorrow. Might be wednesday before I get anything posted. Just wanted to say what the story was.

Also, thanks to everyone who gave me feedback last month, it's greatly appreciated, and djc I saw you were another person with a 1 and I just wanted to say I was very impressed with your stuff. I'd be well happy to be able to paint as well as that. I especially liked the weathering on the tanks and meltaguns, and this months stuff looks great too.

I think it's great to see everyone giving it a go. It's not easy, but I'm definitely finding it gives me motivation to make time to paint.

08-11-2010, 22:50
I will post my stuff later this evening or tomorrow at the latest.

08-11-2010, 23:54
Well done to everyone who's managed to post their work this month. It's comment time from me:

@superawesomeraptorman: Another good month of painting for the Greater Good. The red Tau markings look really effective against the light armour.

@MistaGav: Your Ravenwing look great this month, the Power Sword and mounted Plasmagun in particular are very good.

@Mini77: Looks like you've had a nice varied month of painting and made good progress with your points. Your colour scheme goes well on the Terminator armour too.

@Zark the Damned: Waaagh! It's nice to see such a huge chunk of Boyz get painted in one month - well done. I'm a Deathskull at heart, but I think your Bad Moons are my favourites.

@djc: I like the look of your Leman Russ. I think the huge axes and skull really tie it in nicely to your theme.

@Inquisitor Pariah: That's a good looking Warhound you've got there, and I'm looking forward to seeing how your Tau have turned out as well.

@razcalking: Congratulations! I know how disruptive babies can be, but once you've settled into a routine you'll be back on track.

@Tekore: Your Assault squad and Sergeant conversion look good, and it's great to see an axe thrown in for good measure!

@Irondog: I'm loving the Mega-Dread, and I love the base - as simple an addition as it is. The chipping/weathering on the red looks great.

@gwarsh41: That's a fair few models you've got there! Are you playing a Joker for October, or are you wanting to count half points for some of your basecoated squads?

@bigcheese76: Looks like you've had quite a busy month, with another one planned! I think your colour scheme goes really well on your Hellhound, and looks a bit Vostroyan.

@Fabian3rd: Your Stealth Suits seem pretty stealthy to me, and the red lenses are a great focal point.

@pudsey098: Welcome to the Tale pudsey098. Great paintjobs and I love the flower!

@vargojones: You've done a phenomenal job of your Renegades, and I especially like the banner bearers pose.

@Rutgar: Your Eldar are looking rather good, and I particularly like the Exarch's pose. I'll split your points over the first 2 months to cancel out your Joker.

@Konstantine: Sorry to hear about your troubles, but you've still managed to complete a great looking squad, so well done. I've changed your army total to ????, so just let me know when you've decided and I'll update it for you.

@Doomseer: Great work this month, I expecially like the Assault Sergeant. I'll split your points over the first 2 months to cancel out your Joker.

@Deusmex: You're in the same boat as me, but as of Monday my stuff still hasn't arrived :( As soon as it does though I'll crack on with it. I'm waiting for the Codex and 3 boxes of Wyches...

@perplexiti: Your Wolves are looking good, and the bases contrast nicely with the grey armour. I love that old WOlf GUard model too.

@Fanny Crowbar: Consider yourself signed up and double Jokered. Welcome to the Tale!

@Sycopat: I've put you down for a Joker for both of your armies, but if you manage to get double points done next month you could technically 'buy them back'.

For everyone who hasn't posted yet (it's just ticked over to the 9th in the UK) I've put you down as a Joker, but please let me know if I've missed you off or you need an extra day or so to post your pictures/points (GomezAddams, biginbelgium, razormasticator).

As a whole we've not done so well this month, painting just under 3000 points against our collective target of nearly 16000. By my count there are 91 painters, with 52 of those having used both of their Jokers already. There are 6 Dark Eldar painters however (myself included), who should be able to get started now that they've been released (although I need to pick mine up from the Post Office after work tomorrow).

Let's see if all of us who've used both of our Jokers can all get back into the swing of things, and get plenty painted in November! If anyone needs any advice or encouragement, just post in here and (hopefully) there will be plenty of people willing to help.

09-11-2010, 01:30
Hey Misterboff. Could you perhaps change my army from the Chaos to 3500 points Dark Eldar? I really lost the urge to paint marines when I found a new scheme for my Dark Eldar. That combined with the shiney new stuff I'm looking at getting soon for it. (Birthday is the second week of December...I'm a real lucky boy :P.)

Put it down for me as both jokers for now, and I'll go add up what I have done so far and make a legit post later.

09-11-2010, 02:46
i have 150 pts to post having trouble with camera at the moment will have it up soon sorry

09-11-2010, 03:30
Some comments for my fellow D5s this month;

Awesome stuff. They look great - very 'clean' details and a smooth finish which can be tricky on armies like that. Look forward to more!

Little hard to tell on the pic of the Fire Dragons but the highlighting on the Dire Avengers is really nicely done, and the colours bold and clear. I like them a lot (and I'm not normally one for Eldar).

Really clean looking bikes and infantry. The bone is a great contrast. Very smooth, neat and tidy - that's my kinda army.

Nice job. I love the classic metals and integrating them into a modern army is great. Drill your bolter barrels :p :)

09-11-2010, 16:34
Time for some comments/constructive criticism:

@superawesomeraptorman: I like the paintscheme on your Tau and the white is well done with the black there aswell. Its not easy to do. Only thing is, you should probably neaten up the rockets on the rocket pods.

@MistaGav: The bikes are nicely painted, I must say. However, I think the hard edging could be slightly thinnner, but it really isnt badly done at all.

@Mini77: Loving those termies. Another well done for white on black painting well done and those bases are nice too!

@Zark the Damned: I like the general aesthetic of your orks and the red/yellow are really nicely defined.

@djc: The army concept is interesting and I love the massive axe on the side of the leman russ.

@Tekor: I like the kind of old school look of your BA. It may just be the camera but they have a really different (in a good way) look about them.

@Irondog: Awesome model well painted. What more to say. Apart from it seems to be a great use of drybrushing there.

@Fabian3rd: I think these guys need basing and a more defined highlight to really finish them off.

@pudsey: The painting on those Kans has a really realistic feel. The basing is nice too.

@vargojones: Great use of Forgeworld models and by the looks of things layering technique, particularly on the head of the officer.

@rutgar: The colour on your Eldar looks really solid, which I know can be tricky to do with those lighter colours, so well done for that. I think they all need basing to really finish the models off and make them look good.

@Konstantine: Loving the crazy Russians (or vostroyans are they are more commonly known). I think you have done well on the brass effect on the guns, but I personally prefer a wooden effect for Vostroyans. But thats just personal preference.

@Doomseer: I like the simplicity of colours used in your scheme as it means the models are nice to view. My only comment would be that the paint looks a bit thick.

@perplexiti: The squad looks nice and the drybrushing is well executed. Just watch out on those washes that they are not pooling though.

So, I think thats everyone so far. Also please feel free to comment on my Imperial Guard (good or bad) and I look forward to painting my submission for next month.

09-11-2010, 16:42
Ok, first up thanks to misterboff for doing the orginising, great work mate.

@Mini77: I thought I had drilled them all out, but after I posted the pics I saw nope. So I'll be doing that soon, and double checking the rest of my guys....:D

@misterboff: Thanks man! I love me my old models, there's more old stuff to come too.

@bigcheease76: Yeah I'm pretty messy with my washes, and I love drybrushing cos it's easy..:P

Now on to the comments.

@superawesomeraptorman: Your Tau look ace mate, really clean lines.

@MistaGav: Nice ravenwing, I like the red bolter casings too, real old school.

@Mini77: Great conversion, he looks fantastic. And those termies are really nice too, I espicially like your white, I can't get it as clean as that.

@Zark the Damned: Nice bright but dirty orks, I love me some bad moons as well, great work.

@djc: Great Russ man, looks like they havn't been looking after it very well.

@Inquisitor Pariah: Very nice warhound, it's great to see epic stuff around.

@Tekore: Nice angels mate, is the next squad going to have jump packs?

@Irondog: Wow, looks awesome mate. That's a great big piece of resin, and your paint job makes it even better.

@gwarsh41: Keep it up man! Can't wait to see more wolves done.

@bigcheese76: It all looks pretty good mate, have you tried using masking tape to make straight lines? I know I have loads of trouble keeping anthing straight, and it might help those hazard markings on the fuel tanks to look more crisp.

@Fabian3rd: Pics are a bit dark, but they do look very stealthy, I like. Really nice lenses too.

@pudsey098: Great cans, I really like the one about to stomp the pretty little flower!

@vargojones: They look fantastic, great work.

@Rutgar: Good aspects, nice clean colours. The dire avengers look pretty cool with red helmets too.

@Konstantine: I do really like those vostroyan minis, and you've done a great job on them.

@Doomseer: Awesome angels, that bone is just great.

Keep it up everyone, and don't forget all you fullas who havn't posted yet, it's not too late to put some stuff up. You can buy back your jokers if you have a good couple of months.

09-11-2010, 17:29
And those termies are really nice too, I espicially like your white, I can't get it as clean as that.

Thanks. The two most important things in my life are my wife and Astronomican Grey. :) An application of that followed by two or three very thin coats of white will ensure a solid, smooth finish. It's not difficult, more just time consuming.

09-11-2010, 19:45
I'll have to pick some of it up, I love these tales you get so many tips and ideas from everyone.

09-11-2010, 19:48
I know its early in the month but I've been busy getting some more stuff done, so here's some of what I'm working on for November.

First of all, thanks for everyone's comments and well done to everyone who's posted thus far. Now, comments!

superawesomeraptorman; I really like the black/white with occasional spots of colour - will make for a very striking loom on the tabletop.

MistaGav; nice choice of colour, and you should be pleased with the power sword - it looks great.

Mini77; I really like these - good clean whites with the black & red.

Zark the Damned; Nice conversions, and a nice colourful paint job - good stuff.

Inquisitor Pariah; Nice build with the plasmas, and a nice deep red.

Tekore; Good looking squad - I like the nice bright yellow you've got on the helmets.

Irondog; - Excellent work on an awesome mini!

bigcheese76; I like the gold with the red - think this works really well

Fabian3rd; I like the dark green, makes them look stealthy, and your lenses really pop.

Pudsey098; Good paintjob I like the weathering, and well posed too!

vargojones; Really nice work - I especially like the officer and icon on the banner.

Rutgar; Nice work - your Exarch looks really good and I like the nice, bright colours on the fire dragons.

Konstantine; Sorry to hear your news, but you've got a great looking command and infantry squad there.

Doomseer; Good stuff - the bone looks great with your nice, clean red. The eye lenses really stand out too.

perplexiti; I like the grey you have got on the armour, and I agree about the older models - they really do add character to a good looking squad.

Oh and misterboff, you appear to have me down as 145/1500 with one joker when I have in fact done 335/1500 with no jokers! ;p

09-11-2010, 22:53
Hey Misterboff. Could you perhaps change my army from the Chaos to 3500 points Dark Eldar? Put it down for me as both jokers for now, and I'll go add up what I have done so far and make a legit post later.

Will do, but I guess you'll have to change your sig now...

i have 150 pts to post having trouble with camera at the moment will have it up soon sorry

No problem, I'll put you down as 150 and just post your pics when you can.

Thanks. The two most important things in my life are my wife and Astronomican Grey. :) An application of that followed by two or three very thin coats of white will ensure a solid, smooth finish. It's not difficult, more just time consuming.

I used Astro Grey as a base for the whites on my Orks too, and it worked a treat.

Oh and misterboff, you appear to have me down as 145/1500 with one joker when I have in fact done 335/1500 with no jokers! ;p

Oops, I must have been too busy commenting to update your total - my bad! It's fixed now.

I managed to pick up my DE stuff from the Post Office this morning, and so far I've read the background section of the Codex (which was very interesting). I just need to decide how to equip my 3 Wych squads now. I thinking of giving each squad 2 Wych weapons and a Hekatrix with Power Weapon at the moment...

Razormasticators 75th Logres Prime Ice Drakes IG

Total Painting for October: 195

Die Roll: 2

x3 Armored Sentinel Squadron, Heavy Flamers, Smoke Launchers * 1 magnetized so they can go multilaser as well.

Standard Black undercoat, white dry-brush. Masterclass techniques, including charadon granite spone weathering, as well as a burnt umber turpentine wash. Etc.

All sentinels were similarly done,

Gravel Flock, 2 grains. Badab black, white dry brush, More white.

Still to Do:
Flock, maybe a minor detail or two. Overall I am pleased with them.

Highs and Lows:

Wrapping up the last of my sentinels.

The damn oil paint wont dry, been 3 weeks, I still need that hair dryer. That or a lighter coat next time.

Also, due to the stickyness, I only got the hydra about 50% done.

Next Month:

Still wrapping up the weathering on a baneblade I have been working on for over a year.
(having the same problem with the tackyness) I think I will work on some weapon teams next month as as well as an infantry squad.

10-11-2010, 03:26
Will do, but I guess you'll have to change your sig now...

Thanks muchly....yeah, I know...guess my willpower was well, overpowered by the new models. The goal is actually to finish most of the stuff I have as soon as possible. So I might jump in with a "second" Dark Eldar army in a few months.

I think I got enough here finished, once I finish my Ravager to make a post...I'll decide for sure once I finish.

10-11-2010, 04:50
Thank you all for your support. I'll pull through these tough times with.... painting =P Hopefully. If not all your kind words will help!

Misterboff - Loving your guardsmen, I'd like to see one more highlight on the flesh.

Superawesomerapterman - Really loving the blue lenses on the weapons. Overall painting is great. If you find painting white kinda thick, water it down XD But yea, you are kinda inspiring me to play a Winter Tau army. :P

MistaGav - Always have been a fan of Ravenwing and you have done them justice!

Mini77 - Really clean and neat, really liking what you have done.

Zark the Damned - Man if only I can get as much Fantasy Orcs painted as you have done for 40k.... Great work!

djc - Stunned by your pure awesomeness...................... Wow....

Inquisitor Pariah - Is that a Titan?? SO CUTE!!! LOL, I'm just pulling your leg. Great work!

Tekore - Great work!

Irondog - Does I hate you count as a compliment? Cause you are amazing... I love how although it is rusty and Orky, the painting is so clean. I don't hate you by the way XD

Bigcheese76 - I feel for you. 20 Guardsmen + Hellhound is not an easy feat. Great work! Some of those people that paint 400 Points a month man. I wonder if they slave other people to do their work XD

Fabian3rd - Hmm if they look that good in photo, then in reality they must be amazing. I love how the green looks like they are 'stealthing' in/out.

GomezAddams - Lets all stare at his space and hope for an update XD

Pudsey098 - Great work! I hate how you guys can achieve the clean rusty look.... Damn you guys are good.

Vargojones - Must ignore looking, can't afford to start a new IG army, even if it is a Chaos Renegade army... Drools. Great painting on the models! Another one of those people that can paint the clean dirty style that I wish I had.

Rutgar - Good work! Loving the bright colours.

Doomseer - Drools... Bloodangels are one of those armies that I'm stopping myself from getting. And you sir certainly aren't helping!

Perplexiti - Good work! Played Wolves before and remember how fun they are to play XD

Razormasticator - Loving it. Great work put in!

Mini77 - I refuse to comment on your WIP... HOLY CRAP thats some nice painting. Your grey highlighting is done perfectly. A fan of your stuff XD

Phew that was a long list....

10-11-2010, 18:13
Right work in progress and comments time.

So since i finished painting the HQ i've had two things to do start building my super heavy:

And build my first ironfist squad:

The super heavy is fun to build and is looking great, just need to get an airbrush to do it justice.

However the squad was erm less fun to build. The forgeworld torsos are stunning, look really good and match fairly well to the cadian legs. The militia arms though suck big time a real pain to fit and match the correct arms together, but they are done now and currently drying after getting an undercoat this evening, and now my gfs place smells of primer lol.

Anyway comments, thought i'd comment on everyone given turnout is a bit poor this month, if i've missed anyone apologies:

@misterboff - looking good, can't wait to see the DE
@superawesomeraptorman - loving that scheme, really works well.
@Mistagav - I love DE and Ravenwing, and they are looking very nicely executed, wish i could get ahead of schedule!
@Mini77 - Just gorgeous! Keep it up and that will be a very special army!
@Zark the damned - That yellow is very executed, i always go to great lengths to not do yellow.
@djc - great concept, that leman russ looks ace ( i might have to steal the beastmen idea for my renegades in some way)
@Inquisitor Pariah - nicely executed old school warhound.
@Tekore - Good looking blood angel unit, i'm not sure about the banner, but otherwise good work.
@Irondog - that is superb, want to see more stuff!
@Fabian3rd - Cool stealth suits.
@pudsey098 - Very evil sunz dude
@Rutgar - Very nice looking eldar keep it up
@Konstantine - Looks fantastic, that detail must be driving you insane
@Doomseer - Great looking BAs very consistent look

Keep up the good work everyone!

10-11-2010, 19:29
So here are my comments for my fellow D4

superawesomeraptorman: Really like the clean lines on the Tau especially like the red markings for contrast.

Zark the Damned: Orks are the way forward! Really like the checked patterns along with the bold colours

Irondog: Must admit if I hadn't seen your site i wouldn't of signed up, love the Mega Dread both the aggressive stance and the dirty/chipped look

Well done to everyone for this month, and a big thanks for the comments, I'm actually quite surprised on how good the comments are (must be the perfectionist inside me) lets hope I can match it next month! :)

Steel legion Imperial Guard

Total Painting for October: 625 (last month 365)

I now have no idea where i am going with this force....sorry for getting ahead of myself the painting was my getting away from it for assignments

Die Roll: 1

x1 Demolisher
x1 Exterminator
x2 Hellhound

(from last month)
5 man Command Squad
x1 Leman Russ
x1 Chimera

Tanks have all been brown wash over bubonic brown then drybrush bubonic back. No uniformity in this method so some tanks have more bubonic than brown... Not sure on the green casements on the guns anymore though... seemed like a good idea at the time.

The troopers were test models in fortress grey. no highlights as yet as i intend to dip eventually. hopefully i will be able to use an army painter grey spray for the rest of the infantry as soon as the weather improves

no decided yet.. still thinking about it

Still to Do:
basing... chipping on armour

Highs and Lows:

more tanks

more tanks... ignoring the infantry is not a good thing

Next Month:
dunno tanks - i have the rest of the chimeras and a russ ready for drybrushing. but i really need to get started on the infantry

Sneaky late October unit...How Tau-rable of me!

ARMY: Tau (1000k add on)

UNIT: 10 Fire Warriors (100 Points)

PAINTING: Unfortunately its been such a long time since I started painting the army that I've forgotten my paint plan! These guys will end up looking a little different from the older troops, but maybe they're just FNGs just in from the Sept!

Armour - Deneb stone with highlight/dry brush washed with watered down black, Cloth - Cathay brown washed Delvin mud, weapons - Gnarloc greenwashed Tharaka green

STILL TO DO: Basing. I really don't like the way the rest of the army is based, so will think of a new way for the new guys

November WIP of a Reavar Titan:

Urgh...actually looking at my pics they're awful...will try to find a better picture editor than paint for next month!

Sorry to clutter up the thread with more of my ramblings but here's some more WIP of the second my two land speeders. It's actually just been finished but I'll save those pics for the end of the month. In the pictures here there were still details, decals, some washes and clear coats to be applied.I've got a lot done in this past two weeks as I've got a tournament this coming weekend and had to get a ton of stuff ready. It's kinda funny - I've always thought of myself as a slow painter, but when the deadline is there I've been able to get the job done. Maybe I'm just a lazy painter instead?

I also went to Maelstrom Games tonight for our weekly Roll With It 40k club meet this evening. During the session I popped downstairs to pick up some more Badab Black. I came back up with a Baneblade (expect to see a Fellblade soon) and another Vindicator... and forgot the Badab Black....

As you guys probably noticed I had to joker last month, even though I was busy painting up the last pieces for my 1750-army for 27th of november.

So, I'll just put everything up as work for november and try to earn that joker back.

What have I been up to? Well, that's easy: I finished two more tanks, namely one Baal Predator and one normal Predator. It took me some time, becaus I wanted to make sure I can do weapon-swaps on my tanks. So I lost a lot of time magnetizing and green)stuffing magnets to my doors, turrets, hatches, etc. This also means that I had to paint up more weapons than I originally anticipated.

While I was busy preparing those tanks I also prepared my Furioso Librarian Dreadnought, which I really wanted to make different from my other Dreadnoughts. Seeing as a Librarian Dreadnought gets a Force Weapon option(mandatory when you upgrade the Furioso to Librarian) and there's no such thing as a Force Weapon for a Dreadnought, I set out to find a suitable replacement. This I found in the new Warmachine plastic-range: they've got these awesome kits where you can make 4 different jacks with just one box! So, I just used one of the axes of the Khador-kit and presto. this, of course, also meant some green stuffing magnets, so I can use the Dreadnought for other purposes as well.

Then to finish off my army for the tourneament on the 27th of november I still had to scratch-build a Scout Sergeant with a combi-melta and a Sanguinary Priest with a Jumppack.

Onto the pictures then:
First one Predator:

Then the other one:

And then a groupshot of everything I've done so far:

Thanks for looking.

Sorry for the long over due post.
One eldar wraithlord 150pts

next month fire dragons

i love this kit
test model i think i hit what i was looking for

15-11-2010, 11:50

Whilst the model is long done and ready to be photo'd time and opportunity have been an issue.

My work situation has been a bit AARRGGHHH lately, as in the process of moving offices. I thought moving house was a nightmare, but imagine moving 40 desks, rooms of filing, servers et al...

After a long weekend, I'm sat in my new office... sun blazing through the window and the internet working, all be it sporadically.

I'll endevour to get photo's up either tonight or tommorrow so you can give me all your amazing comments and possitve feedback about how exceptionally talented and wonderful I am :wtf:

I'll also try to go through all this and leave some comments for others over the next day or so.

I trust you are all keeping well, and its great to see peoples progress coming along so nicely.

Unfortunately I have been pretty busy so far this month and haven't had chance to comment properly - have just been able to get the stuff undercoated yesterday!

Hopefully things will quieten down a bit so I can get this month's painting done in time.

17-11-2010, 18:07
Comments are long overdue. There werent alot of 2's this month so I commented on stuff that struck me. If I didnt comment on your stuff I will try to next month. So here goes:

@ mistaboff... nice clean guard there my friend.

@ superawesomeraptorman's, dude, I love that color scheme. Very effective and solid looking Tau.

@Mini77's gorgeous marines my friend. Marines just look better in Black, like the original Dark Angels and the Black Templars. Great Work.

@ Irondog: Gorgeous Mega Dread, convincing weathering. I can only hope I can do mine justice like that when I get around to painting my ork army.

@ vargojones: gorgeous renegades man, I love the green!

@ Konstantine... dude, I love Vossies. and Dig the traditional red.

@ Doomseer: love that cream and red color scheme. Excellent work, clean and effective. Nice!

and for the #2's

@MistaGav awesome work on the Ravenwing bikers. I especially like the insignia's. Freehand right?

Props to everyone who posted something. I know my photos didn't do my models justice. I probably went a bit overboard with the Chardon Granite sponge method. But Oh well. Moving on.

Total Painting for October: 135

Die Roll: 3

Evil Suns Big Mek w/ burna, kustom force field, boss pole and eavy armor
Bad Moon 'Ard Boyz x2

Pretty standard on painting used the same method on the two 'Ard Boyz and did more or less the same painting method on the Big Mek that I did on the Snake Bites

Calthan brown for the whole base mix of flock and a touch of static grass

Still to Do:
The pictures reveal my sins, I missed a spot or two so I will be going back and touching them up.

Highs and Lows:

High: I am truly amazed (even if it's late) that I got ANY work done with Fallout: New Vegas hitting coming out. Though I can resist most video games I am in love with pulp/post apoc type of games so I was done for.

Painting wise I like how the yellow flames came out on the Big Mek's armor

Lows: Still trying to figure out how to make a more convincing red... also wish I could of done a little bit more work.

Next Month:

I have quite a collection of old miniatures I have rescued from Ebay now all I have to do is strip off the old paint jobs. I do want to expand the army with more clans but I may beef up the Bad Moon 'Ard Boyz mob first then move onto another unit.

Logic would dictate I would go for another troop unit but my orks are mainly for my own enjoyment of seeing them painted rather than actually being played. Especially with all the Dark Eldar I have purchased for a team tournament with some of my buddies. Time will tell..

Forgive me for being so late and posting a....

Just a quick update from me. I've not been able to do much painting this month because my two sons have been a bit ill, and I've been sacrificing late night painting sessions for sleep.

On the plus side, I've managed to get two Hekatrix painted so far, and hopefully I'll get a few Wyches with Wych Weapons painted in the next week to boost my points. Here my male Hekatrix. It's not that great a picture, but I couldn't figure out the best angle to fit everything in.

How's everyone else getting along this month, and what about the other half dozen Dark Eldar painters?

Looks good Misterboff.

As for me I have been trying out the dark elf corsair capes on warriors, to represent Trueborn, but Im not too keen on the look.

My biggest problem is what to build first. Bikes look amazing but so does everything.
Built a warrior with a splinter cannon just cos it looked good, its not im my list though : /

I think I will be going with the purple and black look. Although Im sorely tempted by this page for raiders and jetbikes.

A bit more WIP from me. A tac squad sergeant and my sternguard vet test mini. I'm waiting on some Umbra Ferrox boltguns from Forgeworld for the Sternguard squad and couldn't help but get some other stuff while I was ordering those. I am so weak-willed....

25-11-2010, 02:23
mini77 im really digging the red robes on that DA vet marine

26-11-2010, 23:27
Ok, first things from me.
My Tau were initially based on the Cities of Death cover scheme (like so many others I assume) but with a light grey instead of a white as I was planning to get Shadowsun (back when I thought she was decent) and wanted her to stand out a little, as well as using white for highlights. I then decided I wanted a more practical scheme and exchanged the red for the blue-grey and then decided to make it snow themed. This is what I had:

I did have some trouble with the armour though, where I was using a mix of Astronimican Grey and Skull White for the main colour and it was coming out patchy, not to mention the mix was a complex ratio. So I tried the standard Space Wolves Grey and this is what I now have:

I must say it's definitely easier to paint. I am concerned that this makes the model a bit blue and cold though. Here's a couple of comparison shots. Please note that they're not finished and the SWG model has no sept colouring.

I apologise for the picture quality. It's kinda washed out the colour a bit and makes it harder to tell between them.

27-11-2010, 12:37
Hey guys, first I must say I like what I'm seeing. Great work so far.
As I told in my blog I'm still struggling with my death company for this month. I just bought a new house and there is still a lot of work to be done, so I don't have a lot of time to paint.

The death company are nearly finished so I thought I'd post some wip. Just put me down for a joker this month and then next month I'll make it up with an extra Corbulo.

@cerealkiller195 - Good work on the Orcs, I love retro Orcs.

@misterboff - Needless to say, your amazing painting makes ME want to play Dark Eldar!

@mini77 - STILL HATING YOU XD On the positive side, I'm really enjoying the new red, while your black power armour is still as clean as ever.

@Cal585 - Loving that clean white look on your Tau.

@biginbelguim - Good work! Your painting like, mini77 is very very clean.

Now for some bad news... To any people in America, you know how painful this is. Acceptance to York University (In Canada) means moving from my beautiful home in Vancouver to Toronto... this means moving out by myself. AND it also means, SORRY guys ): 2 Jokers for me December and January please ): If I work extra hard to catch up, can I win one of my Jokers back? Please? XD

30-11-2010, 02:53
Misterboff if you would kindly put me down for a joker for December turn in military making me go camping for a bit thanks great work everybody keep it up!

Sorry for not commenting on people's stuff individually, it's been a bit hectic this month and has only just calmed down in the past week, allowing me to get back on track with my painting - in fact, have almost finished painting everything I have assembled, so December will be a month of sticking things together!.

01-12-2010, 00:01
Hi guys and gals,

The new thread is now up:

The Tale of 40k Painters 2010-2011 MONTH 3 (& DEC WIP) (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=284932)

Please only post last month's completed work in this thread until the 8th. On the 8th it will then become the work in progress (wip) thread for December, so please continue to use this thread for wip until then.

01-12-2010, 00:43
I know this is realy late, just rolled over to Dec 1st, but i have (just about) been keeping up with the tale, however may things including lazyness have conspired against me being able to post pics till now, sorry!

Will be on time for Nov i promise!

z4carlo imperial guard: October 2010 (D6 roll = 1)

Veteran Squad - 3 x Plasma, 1x Plasma Cannon (used as ML or lascannon)
This is the squad that started the army off for me and had the most thought put into it, originally made for a Necromunda Gang i enjoyed it so much i just kept adding to (but never painting) the force till it became my guard. The gangs 20 odd different models got split between this and another vet squad with a few dotted elsewhere as sgts and special weopons ect.

CCS - Commander, Mortar, (Company) Sniper, Standard (missed him off the pics), MoO

Vets made from plasic cadians, empire hairy heads and plasma weopons looted from anywhere i could find them.

CCS - Commander/Mortar team out of box, MoO made from old CCS commander with old CCS master vox, Regimental Standard repositioned to hold 2 handed. Sniper is one of my fav models in the army, old style ratling sniper carrying las rifle weopon (was made as necromunda ratling guide)

Missed Standard off photos - sorry

Highs: Happy with the colours, was worried it would be too dull until the red realy started to come through and i layered the bronze up.
Lows: Nothing major!

Another Vet squad and an attached Inquisitor (may not be totaly legal anymore but i love the model and he was made for this army so still goes in)

Misterboff: I hate to be a pain in the rear but can I change my target again. I'm painting much more than I thought I could and the tale is really helping with my motivation. Can I change to 5000 points please?
