View Full Version : The MVPs of your army books

07-01-2011, 15:53
EDIT2: I don't know if it's still possible to bring it back ond the right course.^^
but to maybe make it clearer what I was thinking of:
-I'm not looking for specific builds of units (no upgrades etc, only if it is significant, but then mention the upgrade, not the unit that carries it. e.g. Fanatics, BSB, etc.)
-I'm not looking for personalized units/characters that did especially well.

the ones (on the first page) that (exactly) got what I meant the thread to be about: Wyrmnax, EbonyPhoenix, Craze_b0i, NecronBob

List which units you consider the best in your army books (or army books you know well). Not because you like fielding them but because they are strong. The best builds will usually be made up (mostly) of these. (excluding special characters!)
(3 tiers: 1. the best 2. the very good 3. the rest)
(always relative to your army, no comparision across army books)

I meant army book, not your own specific lists. also, list all good units, not just the top 2 (look at my example). (there should be a lot more BSBs mentioned)
and don't list the 3rd tier, as it is of course made up of all the remaning possible choices

I'll start:

LM (my 1st army):
1. Slann, Salamanders
2. Temple Guard, Saurus, Chameleons, Ancients

OK (my 2nd army):
1. BSB, Tyrant, Bulls, Ironguts
2. Slaughtermaster, Butchers

WE (played them a few times+played a lot against it):
1. Spellweaver, Treeman, Treekin
2. Dryads, Glade Guard, BSB, Eagles

HE (my gf plays them):
1. Archmage, White Lions, BSB, Phoenix Guard
2. Sword Masters, Eagles, Dragon Princes

07-01-2011, 16:13
1. Hammerers
2. Cannon/Grudge Thrower

Sorrow Seer
07-01-2011, 16:22
1. Chaos warriors
2. Chaos lord

07-01-2011, 16:25

07-01-2011, 16:28
1. Hammerers
2. Cannon/Grudge Thrower

1. Daemonettes/HoS, KoS.
2. Bloodletters/HoK.
3. Fiends, Bloodcrushers.

The true hero of my army is Harold the Herald:
Herald of Tzeentch
Master of Sorcery
Winged Horror

He's never been killed in any battle... Ever... He's been in combat with both a vampire and a unit of cold one knights that just couldn't kill him. I love him.

07-01-2011, 16:29
1. Night Goblins with Nets and Fanatics
2. Orc Warboss with some nasty items, Stone Thrower
3. Giant, Trolls

07-01-2011, 16:29
you should list all the good units, not just the top 2 :)

(and there's no reason to list the 3rd tier, as it is made up of all the choices not listed in the first two.)

My O&G:

1) "CaveBoss", my Savage Orc Warboss. Personal kills include a Slaan and 12 Temple Guard in a single game; a Carnosaur-riding Oldblood; entire regiments of Chaos Warriors; more than one enemy General in duels. Dude is hardcore.

2) "Sizzle" and "Frizzle", my tagteam Night Gobbo Shamen. Best spell use: picking up and dropping an Ancient Stegadon with Mork Wants Ya turn 1, killing it instantly. Occasionally explode with hilarious results.

3) My Spear Chukkas.

4) "The Squigbomb". Usually meaning a single surviving Squig of my Herd who goes berserk. Once ate 14 models in a single turn thanks to rolling 12" radius for his explosion. Got 5 Goblins, 3 Saurus, 4 Skinks, and 2 Cold One Riders at one go. Nom nom nom...

07-01-2011, 16:31
For Night Goblins :

2. Fanatics.

2) Great Eagles

1) Marauders, Chaos Warriors, Hellcannon, Sorcerer Lords

Orcs & Goblins

1) Black Orcs, Night Goblins with netters & fanatics, Diver & Lobba, Giants, savage Orcs, Any chariot type (inc pump wagon), Orc Big Uns, Squig Herders
2) Trolls, Orc Boyz, Night Goblins with no netters just fanatics, Squig Hoppers, Orc Arrer Boyz, spear chukkas, Savage Orc Boar Boy big uns
3) Common goblins, Wolf Riders, Spider Riders, naked Night Goblins, savage Orc boar Boyz, Boar Boyz Big Uns
4) Boar Boyz

(I know there are just 3 categories but Boar Boyz are so bad right now they deserve their special rating of 4 - dreadful rating!

07-01-2011, 18:09
Dark Elves:

MVPs: Dark Riders, Hydra, Roadblock Dreadlord

07-01-2011, 18:28

Hmm, I think what the Op meant were...stupid, brainless powerhouses alá

18 Chosen, Mark of Tzeentch, Halberds, Musician, Standardbearer, Champion
+ Favour of the Gods
+ Wailing Banner
- - - > 467 Points
backed up by
Chaos Warshrine, Mark of Tzeentch
- - - > 150 Points

Wight King, Great Weapon
+ Battlestandard Bearer, The Drakenhof Banner
- - - > 235 Points
30 Grave Guards, Great Weapons, Musician, Standardbearer, Champion
+ Banner of the Barrows
- - - > 465 Points
backed up by staff of damnation and/or helm of commandment.

The unkillable pegasus dreadlord also falls in this category, I just do not know the exact equipment of these....

To say what everybody else did:

1.) Orc Boyz, Night Gobbo boss spam with twohanded weapons, Malorian's "Me get hit only on sixes" Savage Warboss, Black Orc BSB
2.) Night Gobbos, Rock Lobbas, Arrer Boyz (like 'em)

07-01-2011, 19:43
I am listing these based on how amazing they have performed since 8th edition came out.

Tier 1

Runed up Grudge Thrower with Engineer (Accuracy, x2 Pen)
Dwarf Lord with shieldbearers and runic weapon (smiting, might, burning/speed) and 1+ AS.

Tier 2

Hammerers w/ Grungni as character Bunker
Cannons w/ Forging
Warriors with Great Weapons
Longbeards with Shields
20 man units of Thunderers with shields and FC
Organ Gun.

And I suppose everything else fits in Tier 3 for Dwarves. :)

07-01-2011, 19:53
Tier 1:
Paladin BSB with Potion of Toughness and Gromril Great Helm
(bravely challenging Chaos characters, Black Orc Warbosses and Empire Lords on Gryphons for several rounds)
Damsel on foot with Silver Mirror
(Immortal, she never dies and always wounds and she's killed her fair share of wizards)
Men-At-Arms Musician
(After that game he was the sole survivor saving me enough points for a minor victory)

Tier 2:
(S5 stone throwers for 90pts, when they don't blow up they kills stuff)
Prophetess with Ruby Goblet and Power Scroll
(Helps a lot, kills a bunch of wizards and her comets are feared across the lands!)

07-01-2011, 21:30
Tier 1:

Tomb King on Chariot of Fire w/ Sword of Bloodshed
Bone Giant (yep, that's right...I said Bone Giant)
Tomb King with Dunce Cap

Tier 2:

Tomb Guard
Screaming Skull Catapult

07-01-2011, 22:43

First Tier:

Herald of Tzeentch w/ Master of Sorcery (plus whatever you fancy)
Keeper of Secrets, Level 3 Wizard with Soul Eater.

Second Tier:
Herald of Slaanesh + bunker and Siren Song

07-01-2011, 23:26
1: NG characters with GWs, orc great shamans, black orcs (including warbosses and BSBs), squig hordes, doom divers, spear chukkas (mine have almost annihilated chaos knight units in single shots, once killing the BSB as well), NG shamans, NG with nets, arrer boyz, NG with bows and fanatics, trolls, giants, savage orcs.

2: Boar chariots, rock lobbas (mine never does anything, but people claim them to be useful), wyverns, orc boyz, wolf chariots, wolfriders, common goblins.

3: Spider riders, savage orc boar boy big'uns.

4: All other boar boyz (sadly :cries:).

Gork or Possibly Mork
08-01-2011, 01:20
O & G (my 1st army)
1. Black Orc Warboss and Black Orc Bigboss
2. Plain shield Orcs and lots of them, NG netters and lots and lots of them, DoomDiver(s)

OK (my 2nd army)
1. Tyrant, Slaughtermaster
2. Bulls, Ironguts, Gnoblars ( fighters and trappers ), Slave Giant surprizingly over performs alot though I know it's not the case for many.

LM (my third army )
1. Slann, Scar-Vets
2. Saurus, Salamanders, Chameleons

08-01-2011, 13:14
1. Bestigors, BSB
2. Great Bray Shamans, Beastlords, gors, ungors, harpies, razorgors

Lord Squidar
08-01-2011, 13:35

1. 15 point engineer, dubbed, "The Russian", as in... "send in...the russian." He is there to be abused in the most creative way possible, like being the first into mysterious terrain or skitterleapt into the path of maurading frenzied monsters ...

2. giant rats - always under estimated, these guys earn back more than they are worth because people forget how nasty they can be

3. plague furnace with censer priest and monks, for sheer amount of toughness tests or DIE you can chuck around =)

08-01-2011, 23:38

1. Weapon Teams: Particularly my Warpfire Throwers and Poisoned Wind Mortars. Despite the fact that they occasionally cause a good deal of strife and death to my own forces, they never cease to prove their worth against the foe. Nasty, nasty things.

2. Skavenslaves: So many uses, so numerous, and so expendable, the perfect Skaven unit. Whether they're bogging down the enemy's hardest unit with their massive numbers, dying in the place of more important ratmen, or some other equally hideous and abusive form of use, they're always making it happen for me. They even occasionally claw an enemy or two to death. Wouldn't typically leave home without them, and I'm in the process of painting up 60 more of them...

3. Doomwheel: This dreaded contraption has proved itself time and again for me. Awesome in close combat, potentially hideous shooting capability, and a lot of fun either way. You can't go wrong with one or more of these beauties.
