I wouldn't mind a small force of wildmen of Dunland but due to the fact you can only purchase 3 metal figures at a time that isnt worth the cost can anyone suggest alternative models that could be used? either from GW product range or any other tht people know of

If you're strictly interested in Wildmen of Dunlend, you could try some of Gripping Beast's Age of Arthur Picts (http://www.grippingbeast.com/shop.php?CatID=250), Germans (http://www.grippingbeast.com/shop.php?CatID=67), or Irish (http://www.grippingbeast.com/shop.php?CatID=12). They're not super cheap, but instead of $15 for three metals you're paying about $7.75 for four metals. Mirliton SG also has a line of "Braveheart Scots" (http://www.mirliton.it/index.php?cName=separate-miniatures-scots-brave-heart) which come to about $1.65 apiece, if you prefer that look.

If you'd like a plastic alternative, another option would be the ancient germanic barbarian set from either Wargames Factory (http://www.wargamesfactory.com/wargames-factory-store/ancient-german-warband) or Warlord Games (http://shop.warlordgames.co.uk/germanic-tribesmen-2279-p.asp). For the number of minis you get, these sets are both a great price.

Lastly, if you're interested in Dunlendings as well, Both Gripping Beast and Wargames Factory produce sets of armored Vikings and armored Saxons, which would probably work well.

In terms of scale, I don't know how Gripping Beast models compare to LotR models. The Warlord Germanic Tribesmen are a good fit with GW's line, whereas the Wargames Factory Vikings and Saxons are a tad large, IMO. I haven't assembled any WF Germans so I'm not sure how they'll scale up with LotR figures. That said, none of them are going to be so big or so small that they would look terribly out of place, and GW's LotR line has inconsistency issues when it comes to scale anyways.

Hope that helps!

Hi Geordie Vampire, I use Wargames Factory Plastic Celts for my Wildmen (they were a pretty cheap deal when I got them) and Gripping Beast Plastic Vikings for my Huscarls.

I prefer the Gripping Beast stuff I have to the Wargames Factory stuff and I have also had (and liked) other Warlord Games plastic historicals, so Wargames Factory wouldn't be my first recommendation. That said, the Celts were damned cheap in terms of $NZD when I got them!

Gripping Beast also do plastic Vikings that might work quite well.
