Hi guys.

I've just watch Predator (again) and I love the mad minute scene. Every time I watch it I think payback is the most awesome and badass weapon ever, and this opinion is confirmed with mythbusters when Carrie chop a tree using the same weapon:)

I would like to know what is your favorite badass weapon? It was hard for me to choose between the heavy flamer and the assault canon but I set aside my pyromaniacal instinct and choose the assault canon.
I clearly imagine the buzzing sound of the canons rotating before a nightmarish stream of high velocity bullet erupt in flame. one word for that weapon badass:)

So guys what is your favorite weapon?

PS : I post it in the discussion section because I don't want to limit the reasons to fluff and imagery.

Glaive Encarmine!
...
No, I'm kidding. It makes me sad.

Most badass weapon? Well I have to admit that DoW2 made me love the idea of the Cyclone Missile Launcher, watching the terminator lean back and launch those missiles is pretty impressive.

The bolter family.
Bolt pistol. Boltgun. Storm bolter. Heavy Bolter...If I have to narrow it down to one, I'd pick the Stormbolter.

Heavy Bolter is the single manliest gun in the whole universe. It's like a machine gun, except it fires fist-sized bullets and you have to be a demigod to fire it without a tripod. Assault Cannon is cool too, but not nearly as frikken awesome as the heavy bolter.

Lasgun. It's an AK-47, only with rechargeable ammo and more durability.

Most badass weapon in all of 40k is a Space marine. Because in some gaminig systems they can do more damage with a thrown bolt pistol. Then the bolt pistol can do shooting someone. Basically anything in their hands becoms deadly, even a kitchen sink.

Warscythe

Just chop a Land Raider right in half with a single swing... or anything else for that matter.

Of course chainsaw swords and rapid fire rocket launchers as standard weaponry do have some appeal too :D

Serpent
11-01-2011, 20:45
For shooting, it's the Assault Cannon. Twin-linked if possible, but the standard one is just as good.

For melee, it's a toss-up between a Frost Blade (a longsword made out of diamond is just too cool to overlook) and a pair of Lightning Claws. :)

I always thought the Eldar and the Nids had the coolest weapons. I mean, shooting out a swarm of hungry insects that devours the target is pretty awesome. And the Eldar have guns that shoot ninja stars and HTH weapons like the Harlequin's Kiss. Weapons with an effeminate name that do hellacious damage are always cool (Noisy Cricket).

Of course, a Volcano Cannon is pretty awesome as well.

and this is a problem why?

Assault Cannon, first of all I've always enjoyed the concept of a giant mini-gun mounted on a Dreadnought. Now if you take a look at the stats, 4 shots Str6 and RENDING? It might be expensive as hell but it's definitely the most versatile weapon out there

Guardsman Bayonet... effective now... effective 40,000 years in the future.. aw yea..

Shamana
11-01-2011, 22:35
I'd go for something different, like...

Loota guns. You start with a big gun. Then you add more guns. Then some more. Then even more. You end up with a monstrosity that throws an ungodly amount of metal in the air and can possibly rival an imperial autocannon - you know, those things put on tanks. And the loota gun is handled by an average Joe ork.

Sunrifles: I don't field hawks, and I probably won't field any at least until the next Eldar codex. Still... we are talking about a handgun with faster rate of fire than most machineguns. I am sorry, practically ALL machinegun equivalents - assault cannons, multi/scatterlasers, stubbers, you name it - the sunrifle can get you more hits than it. It's a handheld laser chaingun.

Chainfist. You face off against a tank. You punch tank. Tank fall apart. You awesome.

Because terrified snotlings>>>>bioengineered organisms for ballistic projectiles.

Besides, to date the shokk attack gun is the ONLY weapon in the 40k universe that has the word "defecating" in it's codex description.

Gaargod
11-01-2011, 23:02
It may not be in the description, but i'm fairly sure the night goblin doom divers have similar issues.

Fantasy aside, I'm kind of fond of both Eviscerators and Nemesis Force Weapons. The halberd is just plain angry (and can still oneshot greater daemons), whereas the Eviscerator is a two handed chainsaw on steroids from hell. So what a chainfist is considerably better, is fricking awesome.
Also more fun when you could put it in units.

TheLaughingGod

Maugatar or a Witchblade. Best force weapon ever.

11-01-2011, 23:15
Dark eldar hex rifle what's better than turning an enemy into a statue which you can put in your den, or the old agoniser could hurt anything even vehicals or the stinger from the old de dex wounds on 2+ then gave a blast str of the targets toughness ap of its save so much fun blowing up marines etc.

The Shokk Attack Gun rips open the very fabric of the universe and then fires startled snotlings down the hole. That's at least twice as awesome as the D-Cannon.

That's very true, you might have swayed me there. Then again, I think the Squig Attack Gun is probably even better.

As for a close combat, my vote goes to Blood Talons. Ridiculous concept, ridiculous name and ridiculous rules.

For all the crazyness that is 40k these days, RT had some awesome weapons.

Hallucination grenades: Makes your opponents units think that they are covered in spiders, that their friends are out to get them, that flying is possible by jumping up and down at the same spot and so on.

Defence lasers: "Its range is only limited by the curvation of the planet"

D-Cannon: Yes, it was cooler back in RT :P

Jokaero digital weapon: You can fit a hand flamer on your finger. Don't ask me how the heck you actually use the thing without burning yourself.

Marco-cannon: A weapon that does not exist, but there is still a picture of it (oh, you mean that it is supposed to be a macro cannon?)

Goo-Bomb: Contains fermented squig leftovers...
Buzz-bomb: A bomb containing hundreds of very hungry buzzer squigs, which will eat anyone or anything that comes in their path.
Squig catapult: Fires large containers of buzzer squgs. Not only will the buzzer squigs eat anything or anyone near them, but they will also create panic, much like a wasp in an office.

The POWER WEAPON. A regular sword/axe/weapon that can literally tear you apart at the molecular level. For extra funsies make it something blunt like a mace so you can make a statement. "Yeah this is a power weapon, but I'd prefer to beat you senseless without the field first for your transgression against the Emperor." BRUTAL.

MajorWesJanson
12-01-2011, 02:48
I would go with the Exitus rifle, or the Marine style portable Las Cannon.
The latter is a shoulder fired beam weapon, while the former has specialist rounds of ammo that can short out force fields, carry lethal acid darts, or penetrate a pair of land raiders with energy to spare.

Donnie Darko
12-01-2011, 03:04
For all the crazy SiFi nonsense in 40k my vote is still for the M134D (or GAU-2B/A if you prefer). After being used in Afghanistan with tracer rounds the Taliban specifically asked NATO to stop using lasers to vaporize them, since they wanted to be able to bury their dead.

I do not kid. It produces a beam of light as the human eye cannot distinguish the 3 round gap between tracers, and if it hits you it will literally aerosol you.

Take that 4 shot Assault Cannon that only rends on a 6.

Screaming, scratching and defecating uncontrollably.

Yeah, my vote goes for Shokk Attack Gun also. Nothing amuses me more then imagining a marine having a grot suddenly materialize inside his armor, defecate on him, then try and claw his way out, possibly through the marine.

Even if that Marine survives, he's not going to be in a good shape.

And he's covered in grot......stuff.

I would also have to say

1) The lasgun. Easy to maintain, quite powerful, and can be reloaded by heat.
2) The combat knife. If only regular Space Marines had access to this incredible piece of gear, they'd be almost twice as deadly in close combat.

For fun factor, I'd have to say the plasma gun. It can kill you one out of six times you pull the trigger, and if you hold it down on full auto you're more likely to be vaporized than finish the power cell. Imagine the epitaph on some heroic space marine.

"Here lies Astinus, Battle Brother of the fifth company. Incinerated by holy plasma gun x52-09e during training exercise."

For close combat it has to be the Khorne daemon weapon, something like a possible 17 attacks on the charge, gimmie gimmie! Sure I could roll double ones but hey thats part of the fun :)

I do wish chainblades were better represented, swords made out of chainsaws for the win!

ya, all those are all good and stuff, but in all the arsenals in all the 41st millennium , there's only 1 weapon that beats them all, a Eversor assassin. even its weapons are sweet - neural-gauntlet - scratch you and have fun convulsing to death. And even when it dies it takes you with him!

Named weapon? The Spear of Vulkan. A polearm with a blade so hot it can set heat-resistant ceramic alloys on fire.

Non-named? I've always had a soft spot for the chainsword. Watch the extended Dawn of War 2 intro and tell me that him activating that thing just before his final charge didn't give you goosebumps.

Shooting-wise? Gotta go with the hexrifle or the Barbed Strangler. I've always just had a soft spot for the Barbed Strangler.

The artillery of the Imperial Guard. Nothing is better than smashing your enemy, from over the horizon, with absolutely no chance of you being able to get to those guns without going through kilometres of men, tanks, trenches, wire, mines, air defences and fortifications.

I can't say it as well as a Nobel literature laureate...
Screw-Guns- Rudyard Kipling

Smokin' my pipe on the mountings, sniffin' the mornin' cool,
I walks in my old brown gaiters along o' my old brown mule,
With seventy gunners be'ind me, an' never a beggar forgets
It's only the pick of the Army
that handles the dear little pets -- 'Tss! 'Tss!
For you all love the screw-guns -- the screw-guns they all love you!
So when we call round with a few guns,
o' course you will know what to do -- hoo! hoo!
Jest send in your Chief an' surrender --
it's worse if you fights or you runs:
You can go where you please, you can skid up the trees,
but you don't get away from the guns!

Third Place: Warhound Titan. It's a 14 metre tall, 400 tonne walking tank with a gatling gun that fires rocket propelled grenades on one arm and a weapon that fires raw plasma on the other. It can raze a small city without breaking a sweat and it's intended for "scouting". The "Are there any enemies there? Well, there were, Sir..." type of scouting.

Shuriken weaponry, sounds silly but when you put it like this:

a psychically grown weapon that fires clouds of molecular sized razor sharp discs, not only is this ninja but it is made out of wraith bone my personal favorite materiel in 40k

its a psychic gun that fires clouds of molecular sized ninja discs.

the specific shuriken weapon id prefer is probably the power claw that striking scorpions get, its a claw with twin linked shuriken (and we know why the shuriken part is epic) guns in it that can with its melee attack rip through a tank, as thats what power claws/fists do

the Dire sword is also pretty cool, iirc it goes something like this:

it is a power weapon that has a spirit stone in it so that the dead eldar can sear the mind of anyone who is struck by the blade.

its a blade with a spirit in it psychically attacking the enemies mind AND it goes straight through armor

I do have to admit that the lictor is also pretty epic, I cant remember which lictor but it psychologically attacked an imperial guardsman leader so that he committed suicide, now how demoralizing is that for an army?

dire sword
any shuriken weapon (but in particular the striking scorpion power claw)

Hmm. The Eldar use more psychoplastics than just Wraithbone, and Wraithbone is actually one of the rarer ones.
Yeah, the background is "Wraithbone this" and "Wraithbone that", but that's because it's referring to the rarest and powerful weapons.

My understanding is that a majority of Eldar weapons are "lesser" psychoplastics, and it's only when you start to get to the more impressive and frequently (even more) ancient weapons that Wraithbone is a significant part of the construction.

After talking about psycho-plastics in general, the 4th Edition Eldar codex (page 13) then includes the line: "The most unusual of these psycho-plastics is called wraithbone", which clearly sets it out as only one variety of psycho-plastic, and an atypical one at that.
After that, it about objects made of Wraithbone being the second most precious thing to the Eldar (behind spirit stones) - so it doesn't exactly seem like an everyday material.

I think the way to read it is "Most Eldar materials are a psycho-plastic, but almost all psycho-plastics are not wraithbone."

Not the best weopon by a long shot...but in terms of badassness i love the 2nd ed barbed strangler. it was a fairly weak shot that fired a 'seed' into its target with little more effect than a bolter round. Should it cause a wound however the 'seed' erupted into a (3" blast template sized) tentacle monster that instantly kills the model it hit and damages the rest of the squad.

True thats similar to how it is now but i prefered it. ;)

I don't know. I think it looks cool. But I also think it looks completely out of place. It's look, feel, and operation seems more like an IG artillery piece, then that of an 'elite, highly mobile, surgical strike force'.

I always thought they were mono molecular *edged* shuriken?

Makes more sense given the desgign of the weapon and the ammo hopper.

Personally I've always seen them as being about 1" in diameter (slotta base) but with a ridiuclously thin edge to their cutting rim.

If you look at the 'slide carousel' style hopper on shuriken weapons that makes a lot more sense.

Plus the section of marine armour at the GW musem has 'shuriken' ammuniton embedded in it (acording to the acommpanying label) that looks pretty much like tinted see through 'circular saw' type discs of about 1" in diameter.

Most badass weapon in all of 40k is a Space marine.

I'm reminded of that old apocryphal story about the American, Russian and British high ranking military officers at some press conference or other. When asked "What's your most powerful bit of kit", both the American and Russian talked about some new weapon or other, as the British guy looked aghast.

Ohh I remember that when it was fresh, also reminds me of that age old question of wether or not terminators can use jump packs whilst riding their bikes. Apparantly they can't, as well as not being able to skip, pole-vault or play hopscotch whilst in terminator armour.

Of course, if I ever enter a golden daemon competition, it's going to be a conversion of a terminator space marine pole-vaulting from his bike, jump pack blazing whilst flying over a hopscotch pad and on his way to thunder-chain-power-hammer-fist an Ork fighta-bomber right in the face. The pole for the pole-vault will of course be skewering 3 Avatars, with the tip of the pole resting on the number 10 of the hopscotch grid.

For Ranged I'm torn between;

Necron Gauss based tech. They carry these things around in various forms, and the science behind them is quite frankly scary... even more so than anything that the Eldar produce, as theirs is a product of 'magic', so isn't bound by the laws of physics. The Necron's tech is pure science that doesn't break any laws of physics... scary.

And also the Tyranid Devourer... it fires out small worms that eat their way through your body trying to get to your brain, where they have a feast. All the time you are alive and slowly dying. With all your squad mates watching and ******** themselves. Horrid.

Tau Railgun. It is a railgun, it looks beautiful, and it is great in the game. What is not to like?

For Combat I think the Warscythe is again a strong contender, for the same reason as the Gauss tech. Pure scarily advanced science.

Lightning Claws have the visual factor, nothing looks cooler than a Terminator with 2 Lightning Claws... Nothing.

It's like a tau Railgun, except it's barrel is several miles long, it fires a 50m wide plasma warhead that explodes on impact with enough force to take out a small planetoid (apparently). Having such a long barrel and being on such a stable platform (a 20 mile long space ship) means the weapon is dangerously accurate (dangerous for the thing it is shooting at). Tau think they are good with rail guns... lol

Right, so we've established that Chainswords are pretty cool?

Chainaxes must therefore be more cool, as Axe > Swords.

Then, instead of metal, use the teeth ripped from the jaws of a Kraken. And this makes it not only better than a Chainaxe, but also better than a Power Axe.

Oh, and the chap wielding it is not just an Astartes. He's also a Viking Werewolf.

Space Wolves. Epic, even with the ridiculous naming conventions of GW recently.

Actually, axes are far worse weapons than swords, and vikings used swords and spears for the most part.

But axes are more cool than swords.

Are they? Swords can be pretty cool too, if you get rid of the snowflake mindset.

Anyway, does anyone know where I can find more about riveblades?

Read the bit in Prospero Burns about ax combat and you might change your mind.

reaver blades are large wristmounted knife blades closely mounted together in pairs with monomolecular edges that used to outright kill on a wound roll of 6 as you disembowl your opponent :D alas harles dont get em no more

Thunder Hammer- smack someone upside the head and then do a bit of DIY back on the Battlebarge. Like an incredibly violent edition of Tim Allen's Tool Time.

I'd go for something different, like...

Loota guns. You start with a big gun. Then you add more guns. Then some more. Then even more.

And gun barrels, and gun barrels, and gun barrels ... :D

Conversion beamer in 1st edition :) I believe it had no range and the beam got wider every 12" and losing 1 strength..I think its started at s:10 but that's just from memory.

Edit: 1st would be the original Votex grenade that you rolled on a vortex table as it was a D-cannon that roamed the board and could even split into 2 templates! yeah nasty!

If we are talking 5th edition only Mindwar, no gun/ammo needed.

I'll one up your Mind War with Warp Lance. Mind War can kill a character, but a brood of Zoanthropes with warp lance will demolish bane blades and land raiders.

Most badass weapon? There was that story of the Evisor that resorted to the dinnerware halfway through the mission :p

Vects sceptres quite cool.

Has to be the Vulcan Mega Bolter.

Two massive assault cannons strapped together firing several thousand
artillery-calibre bolt gun rounds per minute.....

Pfft. I have a commissar armed with a swagger stick. The model has quite a tally of 'silly' kills, such as necron lords, carnifexes etc. The model usually ends up being squished by something, but not before it's dished out a damn good thrashing to someone!

Thunder Hammer!

Not any thunder hammer but the 2ed. one:
Against creatures - Autowound, -5 Save modifier, D6 wounds per unsaved hit
Against vehicles - Autopenetration

The most powerfull tactical (and strategic to me) close-combat weapon.

Still Standing

The most powerful strategic close combat weapon would be the power-prow on Imperial space ships.

@ Still Standing

You are probably right, but even then -to the letter of the law- the Thunder Hammer still autopenetrates it...

It would be hilarious to see terminators from a boarding party that landed wrongly on the surface of a ship to open their way towards the insides by opening a tunnel through the meters thick armour of a prow with their hammers...

lol

The hundreds of metres thick armour on an Imperial cruiser would count as the floor, which you can't attack (because it's pointless), if you're using 40k rules, and in BFG rules there are no rules for Terminators on the OUTSIDE of your ship, because they are so insignificant. :p

The very first time my Commissar Lord fired his Bolt Pistol, it killed a Carnifex that was down to its last wound. Surprising, how often things like that happen! :)

The Dark Eldar Codex has a story of Salamander Terminators battering down some energy weapons while trudging around the surface of some other ship. I think it'd be perfectly viable for Terminators smashing their way through the hull.

My favorite weapon, however, is the humble boltgun. The primary means of delivering the Emperor's Judgment.

You think it is perfectly viable for a man with a hammer to beat his way through armour designed to withstand Nova Cannon hits just because he is able to destroy some delicate equipment that sticks out of the floor?

I'm gonna go with the Warp Spider Web Spinner.

Monomolecular mesh uncoiling inside your armour??

I've never quite forgotten the imagery of a marine getting wrapped up, falling down and his helmet rolling away to reveal a mushy soup left over inside.

Warp Spiders: 40k's cuisinart.

Cheers,

always liked the idea of striking and it uncoils inside of victim reducing his innards to liquid.
fluff wise, it was always wicked awesome IMHO.
and im not a space elf player, I just think its cool

PS

not a weapon, but fluff wise, i think it would be cool for a nurgle DP to have a mental power.
the mental power would be a forced 'pull my finger' attack (just like grandpa used to do).
lol sorry, couldnt resist

Shooting: It's either the plasma cannon or the psycannon (in one game I had, a Power armour grey knight armed with a psycannon, survived his squad getting killed by Dark reapers on turn 1, then survived two full turns of that full man dark reaper squad (with exarch) before dying to the Exarch's shoting on turn 4)
Close combat: Thunder hammers of Nemesis force weapons, cause nothing is better then a hammer or a halberd, nor can much survive a charge from a decent sized swuad of guys armed with them. (though Nemesis force weapon in hammer form could be cool, may get some forge world stuff to model that as a justicar)

Well, then again, it is hard to beat a good old honest to Pete chainsword. Widespread, makes a mess out of most anything. Totally awesome.
