Hi Guys.

I think I have found the first Rhino on the Moon. It can be seen in the program Do we really need the Moon by the BBC.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00yb5jp/hd/Do_We_Really_Need_the_Moon/

For those of you outside the UK I have attached Screenshots.

That is awesome. Maybe not in the right forum, but still super awesome.

And at the end of the program a space marine pops out and shoots the camera ^^

Next up: Terraforming Mars! :D

yep some one just nicked recycled a 3d rhino model and shoved some wheels on ( they haven't even taken then heavy bolters off!!! ) I surprised no one spotted it before broadcasting since there may be some cope right issues plus the question why some thing has flume stacks in a airless environment.

WOW. Yeah it's got wheels not tracks but the rest is exactly the same. Haha. When did NASA start fitting its stuff with sponson weapons?

Hahahahahaha! Rad. I wonder if they got it from a free mesh site or if their CG guy just "had one lying around".

Those photos are obviously doctored! Everyone knows that the moon is made out of cheese...
The funny part was that it loaded in such a way that is paused at the right time that it really did look like a rhino.

METAL BOXES! The best part is that the Rhino chassis was originally some sort of tractor I think, so this is actually plausible.

YES!! FINALLY! The Great Crusade has been launched and we're starting with The Moon!

Made my day! Maybe we find some moon-casino too? :D

It still has tracks and it looks like sponson heavy bolters. New pattern razorback? Or Admech Rhino?

Someone should convert this and make a model for the Luna pattern Rhino :D

If someone outside the UK is interested to see the movie, use the following Proxy Settings:

And voila, you can watch it too.

That's not the Moon, it's black and white pics of an open pit mine.

What time is it shown on the video (it's an hour long)?

Haha - some copyright issues there i think!!

The clip is at 55 minutes into the program

Somewhere at about 52-56 minutes. So pretty close to the end. It is still an interesting movie though. :)

Almost as blatant as Disturbed's "Land of Confusion (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YV4oYkIeGJc)" video.

Pause it at about 21-22 seconds. ;)

Awesome work there Mr CGI man. I think he should check his sources before he uses someone elses property.

Cant see GW being too impressed. Are there Credits on the Iplayer version? Get to see who did the CGI?

Appears the graphics were made by a company called LOLA.

Remove the A and you get LOL. Hmmm.

Just saying.

Worrying thing is that LOLA made racing sculling boats, but they went bust. Maybe they moved into GCI? Not the greatest of heritages ;).

Pretty funny though this, I wonder if GW have found out yet. Nice find as well.

Lame, its also backwrds.

In anycase, very dumbed down show about the moon presented by somebody who gave off the impression of not really being all that knowledgable about science. Interesting but without that rhino at the end I'de of not felt it was really worth watching.

Have they not even bothered to take the tracks off and just stuck wheels on it underneath? I did see this programme but did not notice this until now. Well spotted.

Doing this sort of thing for a living as well... may I suggest two probable reasons for that turret-less Predator sneaking in there:

1/ The modeller thought it'd be a hoot to use the model (same as a mod-maker could have hidden nudy pics on the bottom of a Monolith in Dawn of War).

2/ Needlessly close to the deadline the poor chap gets told they want a shot with a moon-digger. Hopelessly overworked the guy recycles the closest looking model he has to save time... It's pretty common practice. I've used basically the same head geometry for about 4 different characters.

That said... I'd have probably taken the tracks off lol!

Was it a one-off program, or part of a series? Are we going to see a Land Raider cynically bolted onto the side of a recreation of the ill-fated Beagle 2 next week? Probably not, as it may have stood a chance of successfully deep-striking. :D

haha, hadn't seen this one before either. Another pretty obvious design copy.

I've only seen the pictures but not only does it look like a backwards rhino pasted over a regular truck with the guns still on it, it also seems to not align properly with the vehicle it is pasted over.

The video may be better, but these pictures are terrible. If I was GW, I wouldn't want my IP be used for this.

If it has side sponsons, wouldn't that make it a Predator?

NixonAsADaemonPrince

A predator would have to have a Turret, though it may be a Predator with the Turret removed.

Don't forget that it's the BBC. Any science programme is really made for people with no knowledge of science whatsoever. Interesting for people with no knowledge but to those who are better informed it drags.

Yay for the BBC for dumbing down science!

Also, I thought it was a doctored pic until I watched it.

As I can't be bothered to watch the rest of it, any other cool moels used?

What the hell, BBC? And the Disturbed one is new to me too, and I've seen the video quite a few times.

That's class in that Disturbed video. You can't get more a blatant rip off than that ;).

At least it's in the middle of assorted other direct copies of stuff, which unless I'm a long way off, range from 1917-198something, with some stops in the 70s and early 80s. Why not M31-41 as well?

@ Zaoinite: I think you'll find there is used to be lots of real science on the BBC. At 2,3,4 in the morning when they broadcast Open university stuff. However, the OU has now switched that distribution to DVD....

Well, rhino can't ever have sponsons, but predator can exist without the turret... ->it must be a predator, or at least it isn't a rhino.

The disturbed video is about corperation controlling the world (we live in) and I beleave it is a deliberate dig at GW and their power over their customers.

05-02-2011, 22:48
Yes, because between all the invocations of Godwyn's Law in that video, we can't let a real culprit like GW get away scot free, can we?

Just watched the Disturbed video and paused it. Just...wow. That is very much an old Rhino.

Actually it's a Sabre Tank Hunter. Instructions by Tony Cotrell for building one were in White Dwarf #120 (UK numbering). But, yes, it's the old Rhino chassis.

Cheers, Martyn

It's a razorback then.

In the 3rd pic you i can just make out the track on what is clearly a 40k rhino sitting on top of a wheeled bulldozer
