Todays http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/blogPost.jsp?aId=15200017a What's New Today? refers to the GW Logo displayed at the top of the page, which is shown tied up and being dragged by a goblin - could this signify a possible change of the logo?

There's a reference to all being back to normal tomorrow, I wonder what's going on (if anything)...?

Doubt it. They do stuff like this every now and then. Probably on purpose, new Orcs n Goblins book out in March.

they are about to announce the now Orcs and goblins release for WFB

Its the return of the Black Gobbo :P

He took over White Dwarf around WD 220 to celebrate the first plastic Night Goblin regiment

Ah - I remember now ;) - thanks for clarifying...

The logo is a bit out of date though - it looks very "disco"

Oh the logo is definitely out of date, but I like the retro feel :)

Maybe if people like the black Gobbo abusing this logo to promote new O&G, GW will have Calgar punching the logo for the next Space Marine codex.

I like that redesign, still recognisable but with a more modern twist. It'll never catch on!

Its probably to distract us more careful visitors from the fact that they've raised the bar for free shipping by 100% to 30 dollars.

Eeesh no thanks. Far too lazy and ill-thoughtout. What's going on with that 'S'? The dominance of the mountain-like 'A' and 'M' make it look like some sort of outdoor/climbing specialist company rather than a hobby/modelling specialist.

If GW needed/wanted to rebrand I imagine something leaning towards the grim-dark refurb they gave the 40k logo for 3rd edition. They'd likely bring an end to the bright, flashy 2D logo for something predictably gothic, most likely with skulls.

That's if they needed to though. Personally I don't think they do and the logo, as has been said, is a nice retro affair that is instantly recognisable by geek and chav alike.

Back to the original query, no I reckon that's just the Black Gobbo again. A great little character who, in my opinion, should definatley get a special character entry in the O&G army book!

would be nice if they restyled the logo, possibly to fit in more with the change games workshop has taken with it's visual products (website, boxes) and the logo still looks kinda cartoony :P
could aswell just be because they're about to announce the new o&g

I don't think so. It's pretty timeless in design. Apart from that, there was a GW logo discussion some months ago.

Eh. I never expected the previous shipping deal to stick. I was making $15 orders all the time, so I bet GW was losing money on me. That being said, $30 for free shipping is still not a bad deal at all...

Damon.

No, it's dated and very much of its time. It is however well established and easily recognised.

...and I must have missed the previous discussion, besides which, this thread was triggered by more recent events.

I think they did manage to update the WHFB logo quite nicely for 6th edition. (Even if the "shiny" is starting to become a bit stale in general, I like logos with a twist.)

Maybe they could update the logo by replacing both of the S's with Dollar or Pound signs.

Very appropriate I think.....:D.

No point changing the logo, for a company thats trying to make savings an expensive rebranding of all stores etc would be to costly

plus i like walking down the highstreet and seeing the familier GW sign sticking out

Yes, as I mentioned earlier, I didn't realise the new O&G book was to be released soon as I don't visit the WFB parts of the forum very often - my bad! I do remember the Black Gobbo taking things over from previous releases though...

Out of interest, would someone be kind enough to provide a link to the GW Logo discussion thread that Sigur mentioned - I'd quite like to read it but I can't find it.

Ah good old black gobbo, back in the glory day of white dwarf. I remember reading that in school at the time. Soory reminising, and im only 24 geeze. They should do more of these fun silly little things, it makes the hobby a lot more enjoyable.

I am also 24 and got the exact same nostalgia. My local library got trouble with the Black Goblin issue because of someone mislabeling it. But the librarian found out about it after a few days and even allowed me to borrow it despite her not being able to register the loan (I was always reading White Dwarf in the library, that's how I learned English).
