View Full Version : Models for Epic Raveners?

Any thoughts for what to use for Raveners in epic? I've seen people make them out of half a hormagaunt and half a gargoyle, but its not exactly like hormagaunts and gargoyle models are in easy supply either. Does anyone have an idea for things that would make good Ravener models? I don't care it they are from the epic range, or even from GW range, though I keep wondering if there's something from Warmaster that would fit the bill.

Any ideas?

I know they don't look alike but I've heard people use 40k rippers as stand ins.

Are there no longer generic 'assault spawn' in Epic?

I've looked through all the GW Warmaster online shop and can't see anything of use. I thought there might be some daemons that could be of use but alas no!

I think Lapsed Pacifist has the best suggestion.

I'm really tempted to start a Tyranid Epic force once I've finished my Siegemasters!

Heh. Thanks for the suggestion, Lapsed...unforuanetly, since ripper models only come on sprues with other 'Nid models, they are only marginally easier to find than epic raveners! (In fact, so far our ravener stand ins have been D&D miniatures Kruthik Hatchlings, but we don't have many since most of the Kruthiks we have were mounted onto 40K large round bases to use as 40K ripper swarms!)

Thanks for looking. I was hoping someone but find something I had missed.

Hey StormKnight,

You can now buy 9 individual rippers from forgeWorld. Expensive (9) but some nice poses.

You can still buy the old metal rippers individually for 2.50 for 2

Speaking of Necromunda bits ripper jacks are also quite tyranid like.

I think like lapsed pacifist recommended these would work best with a little conversion:

Make the tail more snake like easy to do with some green stuff. In fact i'd remove the current tail altogether add an armature and sculpt a new tail. you don't have to be great with green stuff all you need to do is roll a sausage shape and bend to shape.

Make scything talons from some plasticard or regular card and replace the upper most claws and your done.

Crudely done with paint but you get the idea

Hey, thanks for pointing out those Forge World models!
I really like their Ripper bases - packed with critters and very dynamic looking. I may get some of those for the 40K rippers and renovate the current improvised rippers for Ravener use.

Those FW Rippers really would look great as Raveners. One question though - what size are they? If they're more than 1.5cm I reckon they'd probably be too big.

I'm trying to think of easy ways to convert and sculpt Raveners, Carnifexi and Biovores. I'm gonna be getting out the GreenStuff for my SiegeMasters arty tonight so I may have to experiment a little...

I've got quite a bit of Epic Chaos Infantry, i suppose I could use some of them as bases for my conversions.

Go to EpiComms, try a search there because someone posted a guide showing how they converted them from Epic Gargoyles.

Cheers Firestorm40k! I'll have to have a search...

I converted up a Carnifex (New style) out of various EPic Chaos bits yesterday so I'm getting a bit of experience in 'Nid construction (or should that be gestation!?).
