Hi there!

Do you need to have weapons training to use duelling pistols if you already know how to use pistols? Example is the Witch Hunter heroes who can purchase pistols from the start, but not duelling pistols.

By the word of the rules, yes. If your gaming group is reasonable about such things, they might let you use them without training, but you'd have to OK it with them first.

as mcmullet said, officially duelling pistols are a different weapon to pistols, but i would discuss it with your opponents to see how they feel; i would probably let it slip. :)

Ditto. Considering the pathetic range of standard pistols, I think we'll let it slip if it ever comes up.

And remember that there _are_ a number of Warband Rosters that do include Duelling Pistols in their weapons lists - those warriors are of course proficient with said specialist and high-maintenance weapons [grins].

my gaming group have always worked on that if its not in your starting warband equipment list then weapons training would be needed

I think that weapons training should be used... but you need to take into account how bork pistols are!

So I wouldnt mind either way!

Well it seems reasonable that you should be able to use dueling pistols if your able to use regular pistols. But if you allow that there will probably be a lot of other weapon "arguments" poping up, like if shortbow is on my list then why cant I use regular bows or longbows ?

one thing you have to take into account:

"What does this do to the value of the skill?"

If you start allowing pistol users to access duelign pistols for free, why not let Bow users get Longbows? There's the same kinda change.

Or for Handgun users to use a Hunting Rifle. (It's just a really long handgun!)

just little things like that.

By doing this you make the skill less useful, and penalize those who HAVE to take the skill to get to something else, as opposed to those who get the weapons they want as a 'free rules bending'

And who says pistols suck ? ever faced a witch hunter band with brace of pistols and a few skills for pistols.. sick.. especially with dogs to prevent charges vs the pistol toting hunters.. :P

so yeah, need the skill for duelling pistols.. =)

I'll take witch hunters with a brace of x-bow pistols and some nasty skills any day :)
