View Full Version : Bristol Carnage, Baby!

I've never been to a Carnage or a Conflict event before and despite the hype I've heard about it at the local GW store, I was wondering two things:

1. If anyone around here is going to the one in Bristol in June and
2. What people who have been before thought of it.

So if anyone has been to (and survived!) previous events, let me know what you thought of it. It's my first taste of competitive tournament play and I'm not entirely sure what to expect!

Really good days gaming, I've been to the last three and its just got better and better.

So hopefully I'll be there (work dependent!), only trouble now is what army to take......

Lavfluris
02-04-2006, 21:29
I may be there if all goes well. The only difficulty is needing to get there on the Saturday night as there are no trains early on the Sunday morning.

I live 25 minutes walk from the store, so I'll probably nip down and give the game days a look in. (I also like the look of the current store more than the old premises on Broad Weir.)

I came second overall in the 40k category at Conflict Bristol 2004 - had a really really good day. It was good fun, met up with a load of (then) Portenters and had 4 good games. Definitely recommend it. The Empire and Commonwealth Museum is a great venue too.

Are we too early to discuss armies yet? If not, it's either Deathwing or Iyanden at the moment.

Whats everyone else going with??

Lavfluris
03-04-2006, 17:39
Whats everyone else going with??Alpha Legion, as I need to get 800pts worth ready for Conflict London the weekend after.

The best thing is, I'm not using Havocs.

All I know is that the Britol event is NOT double. It is 1000pts for 40k, 1500pts for WFB & usely for Lord of the Ring, you luck gits

It would be 3 rounds, 2 hours to play each & mission should be said in the rule pack. All detail needed will be in the rule pack along with the ticket.

Good luck & look forward to a few report.

I am off to the Bristol Carnage Event as well with my Imperial Guard (I'm posting a army list later today) my first tournament as well, should be good. How is everyone getting up there? I'm going with a bus of people, everyone else?

I may as well go. I'm only in Oxford hanging around that weekend anyway. You're going down Lav. ;)

You're going down Lav. ;)Bring it, bitch. ;)

Just phoned up GW Bristol, apparently you have to buy tickets from GW stores, they will not take payment over the phone, which is fair enough. Hopefully cookiescrumble will pick me up a ticket when he next goes to GW Portsmouth... pretty please?

Yep and theres no rules pack either!

So unless they are going to publish one on the web? They'll be a lot of questions....

Nice to see the rivalry has started!

How can there be no rules pack? I was told at my local GW that Bristol would be sending it out with my ticket!

mortus
04-04-2006, 15:44
I asked that and was told that the receipt is my ticket to show on the door.

And no rules pack would be issued, guess I 'll be asking for the correct version.

Lavfluris

Yep and theres no rules pack either! One would assume it follows the previous Conflict format then. No Rules Pack does seem very lapse though.

Yeah, that's confirmed. I called Bristol store just now and they told me there are no "physical" tickets, it was more of a list of people that could get in. Although they did tell me that the rules packs were being sent out in a week or so.

Even so, if it follows last year's rules, that doesn't help people that haven't been before.

mortus
04-04-2006, 19:34
Ta for saving me the trip down to my local, thought I was going mad! Think they said it follows the format for the 1000pt Conflict. Though don't trust my memory at all!
Snakebite how you getting up, coming from Plymouth myself.

Snakebite
04-04-2006, 20:17
This is my first tournament / event / whatever, so it's pointless assuming I can rely on rules from previous events.

Mortus - The store is putting on a coach but I hate coaches. I'm driving up. I used to go to the Plymouth store all the time (it's where I grew up!) but I live in Torquay now.

Hi Ho

Just booked my ticket. Should be fun. Okay. June 11th.... that;s 64 days. time to get cracking. Only got 2 squads painted up and they take foreeeever to paint.

Lavfluris
07-04-2006, 21:55
Hmm, just looked at the train times for the weekend. The earliest I can get to Bristol would be 10:15am, which would only give me an hour for Round One. As I don't particularly want to lose gaming time after travelling from Portsmouth, I was wonderin if someone was feeling generous and would put me up for an evening? Ah, go on. ;)

Otherwise, I have more or less everything I need for my army, so starts two week of assembly and then seven weeks of painting.

Sounds good Gravis. Maybe we'll actually get to play this time? :) You painted up that Baneblade yet?

You can stay at mine if you want Lav. I'm 1 1/2 hrs away from Bristol on the train - be going up early on the Sunday

Snakebite
08-04-2006, 23:07
So, to those who have actually been before, can you give us Carnage Virgins a taster of what's to come? Is the venue any good? More importantly, is there food?!

Col.Gravis
08-04-2006, 23:28
Generally bringing your own food is recommended ;) Quality varies but its nearly always overpriced!

The venue as others have said is nice though, cant fault it. If its any sort of guide terrain is generally fairly sparse.

@ Jaeger, lol you never know its gota happen sooner or later! The Baneblade still aint finished (3 years on.... opps) just needs the track assembly finishing though, so not too much to do.

I recieved my 'Rules Pack' this morning.

As did I - and I've got to say, I'm a little disappointed! No Deathwatch allowed, right after finishing up my conversion and paintjob! I suppose it makes sense, just using the rules in Codices. It's just disappointing.

Lavfluris
13-04-2006, 17:21
It's just disappointing. It simply boils down to what the majority of players are used too and what they can expect of the armies they will face. There's nothing stopping you from using the model. :)

Has anybody looked into cheap hotels near the venue? The event being on a Sunday morning makes it difficult to travel, and certainly from Swansea I know there a few people having problems.

There is a Holiday Inn right across the road, but other than that. I'll have a quick look round if needs be, but if anyone else has already looked into it...

Um I did'nt look at it in length, there was a Tyrant with twin devourers, about 30 odd Gaunts with Flesh Borer's, a Carnifex (forget the name of the weapon, the one with a ordnance template), some warriors (not sure what they were armed with, ranged weapons again though), at least one Zoneathrope (yes Im not spelling half of these right!) with Warp Blast and a brood of gargoyles.

Well, good old British Rail conspired to screw me - got to Didcot Parkway from Oxford and was informed that the Temple Meads Train was cancelled. To get to Bristol I would have had to go via Reading and then Swindon, arriving sometime around 12pm.

Totally. Lame.

Words can't really sum up how pissed off I am at the train company - I worked bloody hard all last week to finish my army, and I was looking forward to it for weeks. Fancied my chances for a top 10 placing and the best army award too, if I'm immodest.

Bastards.

Anyway, hope you lot all had fun
