May the spearmen stay forever steadfast and the handgunners only roll 6's to hit! Looking good so far, gonna add a print on the banner? Perhaps add an army shot or show off some of those tasty tasty high elves i have been hearing so much about!

Live long and prosper.

You are indeed correct! The banner is not done yet. I'll finish it when I come up with a good motive:). Here's a new addition to Middenheim:

The Jaeger Corps! These knightly nobles love the thrill of the hunt to the point were hunting bears and wolves just no longer is sufficent. Now they launch campaigns into the deep Drakwald whenever possible to hunt the vile Beastmen. Prey is skinned and used for al kinds of talismans and trophys. The grander the trophy, the higher the rank in the Corps.

The Jaeger Corps get reinforcements! 3 more nobles have joined the hunt.

Also the Grand Master of the white wolves have arrived. In company of the future personal standard bearer of Boris Todbringer. He is said to be the most cruel man in Middenland.

Cool that you found a use for those heavily converted knight heads.

May the drakwald resonate with the thunder strikes of their stallions hooves as they purge the dark recesses of that haunted place from the vile influence of chaos.

The standard bearer sure looks the part, lovely work on his face. Some pictures are a bit hard to make out though. Try photographing with a white background, turn off the flash and use some other light source, like a lamp.

Would be good to see some closeups of the other jaeger corps aswell :)

He, he. I'll try to make the pictures better. In fact here's my new project:

The sailmaiden! Or something like that. She's going to be a noble in my High elf army. Either on foot or on a great eagle (drake). Modell provided by juicytomatoes.

Duke Earlsbottom
26-10-2011, 16:04
Wow, nice model! :D Will be a joy to blast in the first turn :)

Is the lower part of the dragon handmade?

The photos improved a lot as well.

John Wernkvist
01-11-2011, 12:35
Haha! You will try! She's got a few surprices in store for you.

Sadly no, the model got broken and nothing seemed to work when I tried fixing it. Try to ignore the lower part:).

They did right, thx for the tip. I'm working on some more High elf right now, I will upload new pics as soon as I can :)

John Wernkvist

The new High elf army: The Army of Saphery!

This small 2k army is led by Teclis two most trusted apprentices (soon to be joined by their mentor). Some of the bases in this army are painted brown instead of green because I ran out of Goblin green about halfway:).

The Captain of the Swordmasters work as their lieutenant:

It just wouldn't be right without a big block of Swordmasters, here's 30 of them:

10 Spearmens, I like to think of these as local guards or servants, unfortunately some of them are without bases but I will fix this when I get some new ones:

A close-up pic:

To form the "bulk" of the army here comes about 30 Archers:

I'll inform you all when a new project is on the way:).

Duke Earlsbottom
05-11-2011, 19:28
Nice, some pretty fine mages there! A very clean and fresh blue you've got on those elves aswell.

What could the next project be? Ellyrion? Cothique? Chrace?

John Wernkvist
10-11-2011, 02:13
Ha ha, if only :).

No, this time it will just be a standard vanilla High Elf army in blue and white. I'm trying to find some good minis on bargain and boost all of my HE overall with more units I at the moment don't have that much in quantity. The force will be led by Tyrion (model released in finecast just a while ago) while the Saphery force will be led by Teclis (surprice:)).

Anyway, here are the first new HE, 10 Archers.

I haven't got my hands on anymore HE at the moment so in the meantime I'll just work some more on the Empire army:).

Some Ungol Horse Archers to begin with:

hello there John! I finally get to see your plog. Very nice start all round. Looking forward to see more of your painting progress with the high elves. ;)

Nice work here, especially Kislevites... one suggestion, I think that some good basing will improve Your army look.
Cheers! Grain Weevil

Grain Weevil speaks the truth.
Some basing (even a simple one) will enhance the models appearance greatly.

John Wernkvist
12-11-2011, 14:53
Well I'm glad that you finally get to see it :). It's actually not mine alone, but recently there haven't been that much painting done from the other lads. As soon as I get my hand on some more HE minis I'll be sure to update!

Grain Weevil:
Thanks! I'll base them as soon as I've decided on a good theme:). I can't decide if I'm doing snowy bases, or just plain dirt.
I looked at your Brettonian army, nice work! The green knight is one of my favourite characters and yours is the coolest GK mini I've ever seen. Keep up the good work!

Well you can read my reply on the bases from above:). Took a look at your undeads too, you sure aren't exaggerating with the "ever growing undead horde"! It would be a blast to team up with some friends and try to take on that thing in a siege or grand battle. The reaper model warmachines makes a nice touch to.

Duke Earlsbottom
13-11-2011, 11:07
Nice work as always. You seem to be getting quite a bit done! You should persuade someone to keep working on their DE's and we can recreate the
Finuval plains for summer :)

Thanks. I hopefully will be able to round up my old warhammerbuddies and get a large battle together this winter doing just such an epic showdown. If so pictures will be released. BTW in which part of Sweden are you currently residing?

When you get down to the basing, i must recommend using some other stuff on the bases than grass. Just grass goes a long way but a bit of gravel and/or rocks improves the models just as much. I can't explain why though, I suppose it gives some assymetric contrast or whatever. I used to do plain dark grass myself but I found grass/gravel enhanced my miniatures a whole lot i exchange for not much work at all.

Duke Earlsbottom:
Cheers mate! Yes I'm quite in the zone right now but it will probably change since I bought Skyrim a few days ago:). Hopefully I can keep myself away from the lands of Tamriel long enough to get some more stuff done.
As for my everliving nemesis, he hasn't been able to motivate himself to make anything of late but Finuval plains would surley be awesome to re-play. Speaking of re-playing great battles, look what I found:

Maybe I should take up the call and bring Caledor to war!

Sounds great! Be sure to post a link to the thread here when there's pictures. I live in Uppsala, currently studying at the university. Yourself?

I think I've come to the decision to make snowy bases for all of my minis, maybe I'll make some tundra for the Kislev instead.

As for pictures, wouldn't be a plog if there where no new pics from time to time so here goes, 10 Kislev Winged Lancers:

Yesterday I witnessed an epic struggle between Night goblins and Dwarfs right here in our home. It was a battle long to be remembered. The fight was a reconquest atempt made by the dwarfs to try and re-take their lost hold that got invaded by the vile greenskins (and almost by the sneaky skaven aswell) a few weeks ago.

The dwarfs where outnumbered at least 10 to 1 but they still pushed on. They would rather die than watching the halls of their ancestors be defiled by the filthy Night Goblins. Their battleforce consisted of sturdy Dwarf warriors, the legendary Ironbreakers, a gyrocopter and two rune enforced Grudgethrowers. Surley more than enough to destroy every living green thing within a hundred leagues!

Alas! When the dwarf army deployed in the classic "Battleline", they where facing a green, noisy sea of twisted goblins. Led by the infamous Turb Crazy-eye and his mad Night goblin shamans, they would never pass up the oppurtunity to kill some dwarf when they came knocking on the door. The Goblin army also consisted of a lumbering giant, crazy squig hoppers, a Rock-lobba and wall-crawling spider riders!

In the begining, the dwarf grudgethrowers smashed asunder the gobling army, each rune powered stone killing hordes of Night Goblins. But the fear of their leader Turb was greater than some odd looking flying stones and the goblins pushed forward. On the advance they found a Whyrding well, all of the goblins drinking greedely and where magically infused to never break from combat! The dwarf gyrocopter also did it's part as it flew around and distrupted the gobling battleline. The giant was smashed down in a few moments by a hurled grudge-stone.

All looked well for the dwarf and the victory songs of their gods where already heard from their warriors. Alas! When the goblins started to close in, one of the goblin shamans strode forth to the front and started to chant. From his pointing clawy fingers leaped a giant vortex shooting out against the dwarfs, breaking through the warriors and killing whole regiments as it raised mayhem all over their army. Madness!

With both armies withered down, a close encounter ensured:
For a long time the bitter enemies killed eachother without mercy. None of them gave away ground!

In the end, the dwarf casualties where to big and they where forced to fall back. Many new grudges where started yesterday and rest assured that the dwarfes will never rest until they can feast at their own tables again.
Well, maybe after a pint or two of Bugmans before the new attempt is made.

Aha! What a battle, and thats another notch on turbs bloodied axe, i shall swear by all that sigmar holds holy that this vile green plague will be purged from the lands of the dwarfs, just like the fire can consume and leave nothing but ashes so shall I defeat them with faith, steel and gunpowder!!!

Some nice painting on those winged lancers, gonna be fun to try them out in a fight. Make em' work in 8:th

John Wernkvist
05-12-2011, 13:44
Haha! Well I hope that you can do something about this green menace:). Otherwise we may have a new great Waaaaaagh! on our throats;).

I just planned to use the Winged Lancers as Empire knights but maybe the old rules are out there somewhere:).

So, back to painted minis. Been a while since I uploaded anything painted.

A unit of Lothern Sea Guard

Ellyrian Reavers

Repeater Bolt Thrower

And that's it!

06-12-2011, 00:55
the game sounds awesome, John! :) Classic match-up, dwarves and gobbos.

Lovely painting on the lancers and the latest high elf models. The reavers look especially good.

John Wernkvist
06-12-2011, 08:58
Thx Andy. I recently got word from the dwarfs that they are writing this event into the book of grudges so a rematch seems inevitable:).

I gotta say, the reavers took a lot more time than I usually paint. There's a lot more details to those minis than meets the eye. Can't wait to get my hands on some more.

Well, winter is here and the chill separates the strong from the weak. The winter keeps most men barred inside their houses but the Drakwald forrest is never resting and war in the snow only heats the blood further. As winter grow stronger the wolf god Ulric is pleased to see the armies of Middenland grow.

First up is a regiment of 10 crossbowmen and a unit filler/objective marker:

Next is a 15 strong unit of knights of the white wolf, sadly I could not find a pic of all of them. The command unit will have to do for now:

8 Handgunners and 3 new greatswords:

An Amber wizard, front and back:

A shadow wizard and the personal advisor of Toddbringer:

10 spearmen with champion:

The Battle Standard Bearer of Middenland:

John Wernkvist
01-02-2012, 13:07
A mounted warrior priest of Ulric:

And the Ar-Ulric himself, standing on a war altar of Ulric:

That's it for now. Hopefully some other D6 members will soon upload their armies to.
Long live The Empire!

03-02-2012, 08:20
Oo I love your wizards. Their familiars are an especially nice touch!

John Wernkvist
05-02-2012, 11:21
Thanks Andy. I got the inspiration for the Amber wizard from the warhammer rulebook. It was very simple to make. A wizard is not really a wizard without a feathery companion you know;). Hope everything is great with your sculpting and all! It's been a while since I last saw Riceball miniatures release a new mini.

Very characterful feathery companions!

Everything's going good with Riceball. Had a short hiatus, we're now swinging into action again :)

New mini painted up! This one has been sitting untouched for years and is really the reason why I started with an Empire army in the first place.

Valten seated on Althandin:

And if needed to field on foot:

One of these days I just HAVE to base my army. One day!

Time for some updates!

10 High elf spearmen from Caledor:

A unit filler/diorama for my Caledor Lothern Seaguard unit. They are no short of criminals and other high elf look down upon them with distaste:

John Wernkvist
12-03-2012, 14:28
Ok! New update :)

5 more DP's for my Caledor army. I got some very cheap (and OLD) DP's online and put them on some newer DP horses that I had to spare. Hopefully it doesn't show to well. It's the first time in years that I did any basing but I'm fairly satisfied with them all in all.

Lastly, I found this unpainted wizard laying about and got it painted in a rush. It's an Empire wizard using the lore of death, as you can see by the rune in the spell book he's reading :).

Grain Weevil

Great White Wolves banner and amber wizard, good job :)

12-03-2012, 21:49
Lovely banners. Cool Ar-Ulric conversion there too

16-03-2012, 01:20
Looks like the colour scheme got wrong. Supposed to be Red and not Orange xD. Started makin' some Chaos Ogres for my Khorne Warriors of Chaos army. People give them a bad rep alot, but looking at what they do, I'm not sure they're as bad as everyone sais they are. As you guys can see by the pictures, I'm far from done. But it's nice painting again after a quite long break from doing anything in the hobby.

Could use some tips om what colour scheme to use for the Ogre pants.

And btw, the skin tone is a bit more "goldie" then the pictures show also :p

John Wernkvist
17-03-2012, 03:06
Grain Weevil: Thank you :). I'm very pleased with the banner. It gives the regiment something extra. I caught a glimpse of your converted mousillon archers to and I gotta say that is some nice piece of work!

Purplebeard: Thx man, what Middenheim army would feel right without the leader of the Cult of Ulric ;)?

P_B_B_89: Nice to see that you are painting again! It's kind of hard to make out from the pics but the skin tone look great to me. As for the pants collor, maybe the same as your Warriors cloaks to tie them into the army? Or just go with a regular black.

22-03-2012, 11:07
absolutely looooooove the Caledor Lothern sea guard diorama within the unit conversion! The elf at the back looks like he's really pulling that rope! ;)

The DPs look the part! I couldn't really tell at first glance that they were the older riders. Great stuff! And it's good you've started basing your stuff. Basing always make the whole thing look waaaaaaaaay better.

I have always loved to see that the books that the miniatures are holding have something written on them. It's such a nice detail. That you have that rune for the death lore on it makes it even better!

John Wernkvist
24-03-2012, 01:35
Ha ha, thx Andy! I'm very pleased with the diorama and it will be better than ever once I base it:), hopefullt with some blooded snow under the hangman;). More pics will be uploaded soon.

Your Daimyo looks great! It has so many details and the war fan is an excellent addition. I'm hoping to see a halfling ninja next time! Or a warrior monk!
