What is it all about?

The aim of The Tale of Skirmish Game Painters is to help motivate those involved to start and complete their Crews/Bands in the next 6 months.

The painters involved have made a commitment to paint and post, by the last day of each month, their finished minis. They do this each month for the next 6 months. Starting with their first post on the last day of August 2011 and finishing with their last post on the last day of January 2012. So we have this month, whilst everyone signs up, to collect, build, convert, undercoat and otherwise get yourself ready to go with the first work in progress starting in September.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/malifaux_pandy3.jpg

However, because people have real lives with exams, holidays, honeymoons, new babies etc, etc. They get one 'Joker'. For one month within the half year you can Ďplay a jokerí and rather than post an update they can post "sorry guys couldn't get it done this month. Real life got in the way." But the other 5 Months they have to come up with of painted and based figures. Even for the slow painters that should be at least 1 crew.

If the thread should become too big I will split it, but unlike the other Tales I would like to try and keep it in one thread.

A WORD ON PHOTOS
640x480 seems to work best OR use thumbnails
Bigger than this results in the scroll bar of doom for many.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q : Am I too Late? Can I still Join in?
A : No you are not too late. Yes you can still join in. Just post on this thread saying which army and how many points you intend to paint.

Q : How much do I have to paint?
A : There is a minimum of one mini per month with the additional WIP pics. Most will aim at more. But one breathtaking mini will take a long time.

Q : Can I include a short narrative with each months post.
A : Yes. We love background stuff. Write as much as you like it will be read and enjoyed by many.

Q : Can I drop out?
A : No you can't, why should you?

Khaurik's Guard from Rackham Confrontation
In November I have painted two, because I want to repay my joker :)

and whole warband together:

People who sculpted those are insane! Those miniatures are so detailed! They've got sausages, clocks, frying pans, keys, meat, pans, pices of wood... That is why it takes so long to paint one :(

For the month of November, I have painted more Malifaux models.

I started with 2 Waldgeist which jumped to the head of the queue of my to do list because I was going try them out with my Lilith crew for a tourney, and rushed them over a night. It's funny how things work out, because I ended up not using them. :(

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/malifaux_lilith18.jpg

The rest of the models were those already lined up for painting. I completed Alternate Pandora, Baby Kade, Candy and Avatar Candy.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/malifaux_pandy8.jpg

For the next month I'll be picking and choosing from the following, an Avatar of Pandora, Insidious Madness, doppleganger and Minion Hamelin for Pandora's crew, and some Freebooter minis to proxy as more Nephelim from tots, to young and an addtional mature for my Lilith crew, as well as a converted Avatar of Lilith.

Preview of the Lilith avatar below! I try to remember to get some WIP of the rest of the stuff.
http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/malifaux_lilith19.jpg

I used the tried and true method of using wire to make an armature for the tree and covered it with wall putty, which had a nice grainy finish for in built texture for the tree bark. For the actual Lilith sprouting from the tree, I used a freebooter succubus mini, minus the sword and the pair of wings.

The wings, I would eventually be using on the old Pandora model that came with starter box set I got and convert it to a black blood shaman.

Cheers!

Updated with all 6 members of the squad - first are the 4 basic Rhyflers:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d197/Myntokk/Quar/CoftyranswithHarlechs2.jpg?t=1322722120

And since I gave myself a day off yesterday (even though I didn't really need or deserve it...), I finished up the Yawdryl and last rhyfler, so here they are rounding out the Coftyran squad:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d197/Myntokk/Quar/CryfenandYawdryl.jpg?t=1323212936

Yawdryl is the guy on the left, while the support rhyfler (toting a Cryfen LMG) is on the left.

Bit of background fluff:

These guys are from Coftyr, one of the few royalist nations that has been able to stand up to Alykinder's Crusade, although they're a little "stuck in the past" (which shows in their weaponry and uniforms), and the war isn't going well for them. The main things stopping the Crusaders from conquering Coftyr at this point are the giant wall cutting Coftyr off from the rest of the mainland and dissidence behind Crusade lines.

Interestingly enough, where they lack in strategic flexibility and innovation when it comes to ground warfare Coftyr has the best pilots and the most intimidating airforce.

Anyways, remaining two for this squad are the LMG-toting Rhyfler and the Yawdryl (Sgt. equivalent). I will hopefully finish them up in a little over a week, in which case I'll post them to this thread, I've just got too much schoolwork to tackle them right now. If I don't get them wrapped up pretty soon here, though, then I'll tack them onto next month's goal instead.

And finally, the NE Teddy I entered in the Rotten Harvest competition last month (it's an october mini, but since the contest was running at the beginning of october, I couldn't show it in last month's thread):

Sadly, no finished avatar Seamus for this month, but I have made some progress.

Gorgeous stuff this month guys - here's my meagre contribution.

http://i41.tinypic.com/dfajo9.jpg

I know I had him mostly finished last month, but now he's all finished so he's here instead :D

Sadly I've been massively behind with... well.. everything. I've got OU work to get finished and I've recently been on holiday to a land of rocks and lava (http://oi41.tinypic.com/2mo5zf7.jpg) and as for the giant peacekeeper I posted last month. Well lets just say if he gets painted this side of christmas it'll be a miracle.

GomezAddams-The executioner looks great. I like how you tried the stomach hair. I like the white bits on the mask too. The ageing on the bronzed areas is great too.

Nightseer-I love the verdigris. I haven't seen a version of Kaeris that I like this much before. Looks great.

Retocultaxe-That teddy is fantastic! The toy box is just creepy! The stitched together and canine remains look pretty good.

Whitwort-The uniforms look great. Those are such interesting models.

Eastern heretic-they all look very creepy. I especially like Kade. So creepy!

sea.man-Those models have so much character! You've done a great job painting them to showcase all of the details without letting the details overwhelm the piece.

I know I am really late in joining, but the first post in this thread says you can join at any time. So here is my entry for this month.

Army: Deathsquads Imperial Renegades

Painted this month: 9 Imperial Renegades.

http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x480/NarcissusCO/IMG_0365.jpg
Militia with autogun and vox caster

http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x480/NarcissusCO/IMG_0314-1.jpg
Militia with flamer and one with pistol (I have since painted the eyes, don't worry!)

http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x480/NarcissusCO/IMG_0421.jpg
Renegade enforcer and three militia.

http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x480/NarcissusCO/IMG_0450.jpg
Servitor

Highs-finally getting some models painted. The colour scheme seems to work well overall.
Lows-Frustration with trying to paint models in power armour. I've just not been getting the effect I wanted.

Next month's goal: Paint renegade sergeant, commander, ogryn, and two more officers.

If I am too late to join please just let me know and I will delete this message. Thanks.

Surprise, surprise... I actually managed to make something last month...

I was digging through my bitz-box, wondering what Iím going to do with all my ork bitz, piezes, and gubbinz.

Hmmm... What do we have here? Some boarboyz? Lots of bikes? Hmmmmmmmm...

So I just grabbed what I had and started cutting and gluing and this is the result Ė two, very much WIP, boarboyz.

So this is going to be a bike-based retro-GorkaMorka mop. Wonder where this is going to take me...?

Iíll try to get some better pictures up as I move along on the build. But for now, this will have to do...

Sorry to only just report in, I had some problems with the green for my marksmen. New paints are ordered and they will be redone.
So I had to finish the only trooper I had primed and ready to go. I will do the varnishing and base tomorrow and get you some proper pictures.

http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/854/sergeantwip4.jpg

But there is some good news as well, it seems there are some Malifaux players at my local LGS. So to get my joker back I will also do Rasputina and a few others next month along with at least the marksmen.
I have got to get the paint flowing again!

"Place Holder post"

I do have two simple squigs for my Gorka Morka boys but currently having issues with my camera.

Will post asap, but bases were not finished within time for the month.
Too many commissions, and other "Tales of" stuff this month....

edit: Pics finally uploaded properly to photobucket.
Here are my last two squigs which still have unfinished bases. Also have two more Boyz only half done and the Boss Nob only has his clothes and armor finished so fell a little short of my goal for this month.

Here are some proper pictures (as well as I can get them):

http://img845.imageshack.us/img845/9562/trooper3.jpg

http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/1989/trooper1.jpg
As you can see I added some lines for LOS and magnetised the base (it is now nice and clean from below as well). You can also see the hat is not just a blob of black. I think I am getting the hang of sack skin.

Comments:

@sea.man: Well detail is what you would want for skirmish models as they should be few. You sure paint them extremely well and it is a nicely colourful unit.

@easternheretic: It is good to see different approaches to bases in one post. The Waldgeists look good, I always liked the Candy and Kade models (more pandas for this tale). You sure have a lot of projects planned with some nice miniatures, what could go wrong there! Seems I should get the third book as soon as I have finished the stories of the second one.

@DAGabriel: A shame but since you technically finished the ToTB (this one that is) you could have more time for this tale.

@EmperorNorton: Regrettably...+1.

@Whitwort Stormbringer: I think you almost stole my colour scheme on these. Nice choice of colours and nice models. So nice in fact I added some Quar to my Christmas shopping spree. Is there some logic to the skin colours or is it all just random?

@Rotokultaxe: What stands out to me on these miniatures is the reduction of the amount of colours (but the gradients within a colour are there). It works very well as they look like toys now in a good way. Except for the dead dog, here it makes it lack in the rotten dead department in my opinion (more greens and purple blues are needed here). But that is just my opinion and it is still done very well.

@NightseeR: I spot a base rim in need of some black on the first picture. Nice painting and again great bases for these models. I like the Kaeris miniature a lot.

@GomezAddams: That is an interesting model, I like what you did with the hair and I think the arms and the back need some as well. So can I have a back shot?

@Narcissus: I always like to look at nicely painted models. Is “Deathsquads” a 40k skirmish game? Does it contain Tau? Nice painting and bases, with lots of blood rust and dust.

@f2k: Nice, but where is the paint?

@robscott5598: I will comment when the pictures are up.

Now bad he'll be the last one off these guys, him and his friends seem to have come to life and walked out of my bag two weeks ago.So lesson lernt never take your eyes of your things when gaming because little pixes sprinkle magic dust on it and make it vanish. But its given me the push to start my seamus stuff thats been sat around for ages will put some wip's up soon

Little Joe-Deathsquads IS 40k skirmish. It is like adapted and rebuilt Mordheim and Necromunda rules for 40k. There are kroot just now and Tau are coming soon. You can download the rules for free at http://www.deathsquadsgame.com/.

I like your model. Lots of character. What game is it for?

RobScott-I like the squigs. I always think they have so much character. They look quite mean and angry with your paint job.

Basher-That is brutal that your models got stolen. I can't believe someone would do that at a game store. Brutal to take something someone has put creative time and effort into like that. I am looking forward to seeing your Seamus models though.

I'll wait another day or two for comments, to see if any more entries come trickling in, but in the meantime:

Is there some logic to the skin colours or is it all just random?

I mostly follow "official" skin tones, but the yawdryl and the rhyfler on the far left (grey skin with rusty brown colored spots) are my own invention. Other than that, I kind of decide as I go and try not to paint a whole squad with the same skin tone.

As far as the official minis go, skin-tones seem to include (in order of prevalence):

Light beige with varying shades of brown spots
Yellowish-beige with dark brown spots
Blue with darker blue spots
Dark brown with cream/white spots
Pale red with darker red spots

I've also seen official artwork of quar with orange skin and dark brown spots, but haven't seen any of the company's minis painted that way yet.

And also, from the "Head Zombie" at zombiesmith games:

Skin coloring is mostly regional and varies quite a bit. As Quar age their mottled coloring becomes more pronounced.
Quar tend to worry less about skin coloring and more about how long your family has been fighting in the War.
I imagine it much like humans. Combat units raised from urban areas will have mixtures and those from more rural ones will tend towards one coloring.

Slevish Quar, and those from Northern Naedio and Leitrom have a lot of red tones. Naedio and Leitrom proper will have a lot of mixed tones. 700 years of warfare and back and forth have caused a lot of interbreeding.

@f2k: Nice, but where is the paint?

Well... Ummm...

In truth, I simply haven't got around to it yet. In fact, I'm just happy that I've gotten anything done at all last month...

I'm planing to build a full unit of these (depending on what kind of bitz I can find) so I might hold off painting them until they're all converted.

Nice work, everybody. Happy to see your project going on !

No pics of my november work, as I forgot to take some before giving the Helldorado minis to my customer...

For the next weeks, I'll be trying to finish these 3 HD minis :
http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/7835/dsc08440r.jpg

And the last Eden mini finished, Mark, scout and hunter of the Convoy :
http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/8835/dsc08441z.jpghttp://img88.imageshack.us/img88/8227/dsc08442w.jpg

Expect to see more Eden stuff soon, as a new boadgame will be relased next week, with a new faction : the Resistance (opposed to the ISC drones). So I think I will paint some minis for the boardgame (and as they could be used for the skirmish game, I think they have their place here...)

I guess most participants have shown their stuff, so it's comment time:

@Sea.man: I love all you confrontation minis so far, but that one with a shotgun and a goblin standing on his shoulders is my favorite: it's a stunning paint job, blending on the clothing and metal is flawless. Keep it up!

@Easternheretic: good job all around. Pandora and the waldgeist stand out the most. And those red patterns on the bases really add to the eeriness of the Pandora crew.

@WhitwortStormbringer: Again, cool miniatures. Highlights on the jackets and dots on the skin contribute the most IMO to the cool factor. Blacklining could be a bit more subtle, though.

@Nightseer: Great paint job for both miniatures. The bases and all the verdigris are really impressive and give a lot of character to both models.

@GomezAddams: cool and scary. The freehand on the mask and highlights on the metals are the strong points here IMO. Hair on the chest also adds a lot of character (and scariness) to the model.

@Narcissus: cool conversions and nice paintjob. Those dirty, rusty armors are pretty well done. Militia with a pistol is my favorite of the lot: you did a top notch paint job on the skin and clothing.

@F2k: looking forward to seeing more of those (and painted!). Cool conversion, by the way.

@Little Joe: nice job, and it shows that you take time on the tiny details on your models (and those models seem pretty small, so that probably isn't an easy task).

@basher: nice characterful model: highlights on the yellow seem top notch. Looking forward to seeing your Seamus crew (although it's pretty bad that your stuff was stolen :( )

@Tancrede: as always, a top notch paint job. Highlights on the Eden mini's trenchcoat are nicely done and your bases add a nice little touch.

And here is a little WIP of my slowly progressing avatar Seamus (I guess he's about half way done now):

So another month roles on. I haven't look at anything so far but I might bust out the airbrush in a second and get the first layer of paint on my peacekeeper. I still can't quite believe that its month 4.

SEAM.MAN - I get what your saying about the time, the details clear to see, but I'm glad your still taking your time with them. I'd be far too tempted to batter them to get them finished but your doing the models justice so keep it up.

EASTERNHERETIC - Consider the Lilith idea stolen, theres far too many models in the freebooter catalogue that would transplant well into Malifaux. Looking forward to seeing what you do with her.

WHITWORT - Lovely as ever. You've painted quite a lot so far, any chance of a group shot?

ROTOKULAXE - Really like the stitched together, nice and vibrant. The NE teddy is particularly good, it has a nice life-like color scheme.

NIGHTSEER - I like how the steamborg blends into the base. I can kind of imagine him rising up from a pile of scrap and ambushing some poor sod. I really like Kaeris but the verdigris on the wings needs tidying up a little.

NARCISSUS - Welcome aboard bud, nice atmospheric figures. What are you planning for next month?

LITTLEJOE - Congrats on the St. Nik win :D The trooper is a yet another reminder how lazy I've been with my relics stuff. I have the same kind of magnets on most of my malifaux figs just to give them a little bit more weight.

BASHER- Sorry to hear about your loss bud. Had that happen once before and its always pretty nasty. Any clues as to who did it?

TANCREDE - Lovely stuff yet again. Are you planning to get the Resistance crew? Been chewing them for next years tale.

And thats the lot - congrats everyone for making it past the half way point (I'm actually quite surprised how many people are still in given that most tales have had a fair bit of drop off by the mid way point). Of course that then begs the question... has anyone started making plans for seasons 2 of TOSP's?

Personally I've been looking at the new resistance faction for Eden, Aleph for Infinity, maybe some scibor dwarves, or a steam punk rasputina gang using Freebooter models. So many ideas, so little time...

Thanks for comments, guys !

@Rokotulkax : nice Seamus !
Reminds me of mister Hyde in the League of Extraordinary Gentlemens ! Hope to see the finished model soon...

@GomezAddams :
I will certainly paint the Resistance faction, as I want to play the boardgame (Escape) with real minis. So you can expect some resistants and drones in a near future ! ^^
And I'm painting old minis for old GW boardgames (Advanced Space Crusade and Space Hulk V1), as I'm currently in a boardgame/nostalgia mood...

Well looks like we have relatively few entries this month, so here goes with comments:

@sea.man: Wellsir, not sure what to say. As with previous months, these are awesome minis and you've definitely done them justice. Don't know what other praise I can give, but they really look great.

@easternheretic: Those waldegeist are pretty cool - they remind me of the scrunt from M. Knight Shamalan's "Lady In The Water" (maybe not so great a move, but I thought those were cool monsters). Freehand on the other bases is cool, too.

@Rotokultaxe: Lovely undead dog you've got there, and the stitched together reminds me of Mr. Oogie Boogie from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Evil teddy is absolutely terrifying.

@NightseeR: the verdigris is excellent (as on all of your minis for this tale!). Nice group shot at the end, there - the bases really tie them all together.

@GomezAddams: hairy belly turned out quite well! That's an effect I've never had any success with, how'd you go about doing it?

@Narcissus: still haven't been able to find any players for Death Squads, but I've read the rules and it does look like a blast to play. What did you use for the heads (other than the Empire plastics, that is) - are the cloth masks just GS?

@LittleJoe: I'd say you've definitely got the "sac skin" down pat. I really like the Britanans, but I'm a fan of your blue color scheme over the "offical" red scheme.

@basher: Wow, sorry to here about that. Runnig off with someone else's minis is a pretty pathetic move, especially a group as characterful and well-done as your Cutlass orcs. Looking forward to seeing your Malifaux work, though.

@tancrede: Excellent work on the Helldorado minis, as always of course. I really like this month's entry for Eden, though - reminiscent of the movie Stalker to me.

And I guess that's everyone, so responses:

Whitwort-The uniforms look great. Those are such interesting models.

Thanks! They're quar from Zombiesmith Games (http://www.zombiesmith.com/pages/quar) - they're a load of fun to paint and the game (at least the one I play, there's another ruleset for larger battles) is fast-paced and fun.

@Whitwort Stormbringer: I think you almost stole my colour scheme on these. Nice choice of colours and nice models. So nice in fact I added some Quar to my Christmas shopping spree.

Haha, well, I'd be lying if I said I didn't like your aforementioned blue Britanans! I ended up being kind of boring and just going with standard colors from the background fluff on these guys (and the Crusaders from month 1, for that matter). I may do some specialist/veteran squads at some point down the line and spice up the uniforms a bit, though.

@WhitwortStormbringer: Again, cool miniatures. Highlights on the jackets and dots on the skin contribute the most IMO to the cool factor. Blacklining could be a bit more subtle, though.

Yeah, particularly on the rifles is where the blacklining seems a tad too conspicuous. Not sure if I have the steady hand to fix that, but I might give it a shot. Worst thing that happens is I have to repaint a small part of one mini. Glad to have an extra set of eyes!

WHITWORT - Lovely as ever. You've painted quite a lot so far, any chance of a group shot?

I think my body count is at 27 quar for this tale so far (counting the 6 Crusaders that I jumped the gun and meant to paint for month one but finished early).

I have 8 more quar planned for this tale to finish between December and January, so I was thinking of waiting until the end for a group shot. However, I'd be happy to snap a quick photo if you want to see what's done so far.

I'd love to pick up either some World of Twilight (http://www.worldoftwilight.com/) miniatures, or some Relics Britanans (same guys as Little Joe), although we'll have to wait and see what kind of money I have to spend on figures when round two pops up. If I can't afford anything new, I'll probably fall back on my enormous backlog of Mordheim and Lord of the Rings SBG minis that need paint, or continue with more quar.

I also recently got Warhammer Historical's Gladiator (http://www.warhammer-historical.com/acatalog/Gladiator.html#a60049986017) game (hurray for 50% off sale!), and would love to pick up some gladiators, which I suppose would fit in a Tale of Skirmish Game Painters.

Right. Comments!

sea.man@ Your attention to detail is what really makes those models pop. I really like the paint job on the poofy sleeves and his shotgun barrel discolouration due to heat, for the guy on the left. Nice!

Whitwort Stormbringer@ Yay! More of these fellows. The coats on the 2 guys look ace.

Rotokultaxe@ Nice canine remains there. The yellow stitched together looks particularly disturbing. I love your toy box you made for the NE teddy. The paint job onit is is great too! Those scratches are a very nice touch. How did you do for the Rotten Harvest contest?

NightseeR@ The verdigris on your stemborg and Kearis looks very nice. The bases on both on them look fantastic. Where did you get them? I wouldn't mind basing my Leveticus crew with that.

GomezAddams@ Gomez, that executioner looks really creepy. The chest and tummy hair is also a very nice touch. That extra white mask on his mask really sets the tone. Nice bases too. Where did you get that?

Narcissus@ The glowing orange eyes on your renegades look very eerie. Nice job. What head did you use for that last guy?

Little Joe@ The base looks really nice. Is that a snail shell or a dog **** on the base? Either way, it really is a nice touch along with the bone. The puppet looking fellow is nice too. The paint job for his facial texture is very good. Actually looks like clothe!

robscott5598@ Squigs! Got to love squigs. I always liked the red scheme on squigs and these look good.

basher@ Is that a GW ork? Never seen one in a navel coat before. Nice paint job too.

tancrede@ Nice! I love the purple on that guy in the center. His banner is very very nice as well! Very nice smooth gradient. Inspirational.

And replies.

@Easternheretic: good job all around. Pandora and the waldgeist stand out the most. And those red patterns on the bases really add to the eeriness of the Pandora crew.

Thanks! I actually wanted to follow the Wyrd bright paint job for the Waldgeist, but decided not to highlight them to the same bight level. I'm glad I did that, as the darker broody colours seem to work well.

EASTERNHERETIC - Consider the Lilith idea stolen, theres far too many models in the freebooter catalogue that would transplant well into Malifaux. Looking forward to seeing what you do with her.

So many ideas, so little time...

Very true, with the limited number of sculpts by Wyrd, I currently got the steam punk faries, bad fairy, raven and the wing chaos demon to proxy as more of Lilith's Nephelim from tot to mature. I'll post pics once done of course.

Too true.... *sigh*

easternheretic@ very nice love the base's on your pandora crew

Thanks! I'm rather please with how they turned out.

@easternheretic: Those waldegeist are pretty cool - they remind me of the scrunt from M. Knight Shamalan's "Lady In The Water" (maybe not so great a move, but I thought those were cool monsters). Freehand on the other bases is cool, too.

I actually really enjoyed that movie and never quite understood why it was so badly panned by the majority of those who saw it. The only thing that I did agree with the majority was that his taking of the role of the "future inspiration" was a bit in bad taste.

I promised a step by step on the base free hand for Gomez, and I'll get around to it for one of this months for WIP.

Time to get back to next months contribution. So little time... I hate the holidays because I'm out of leave and end up taking up the slack for those who are on leave.

Cheers!

Alright, commenting time. :)

@sea.man: Wonderful job on those..um...things. What are they supposed to be? Some sort of ogres?
@easternheretic: WALDGEISTS! Gotta love those creatures :) Nice paintjob on the others too, I really like your painting style. Lilith avatar will be sexy...real sexy.
@Whitwort Stormbringer: Cute things again :)
@Rotokultaxe: That toybox is awesome! Where did you get the little puppets? Also, aSeamus will be great when he'll be done, how did you achieve that skintone?
@GomezAddams Great job on the Executioner, the hood is pretty cool with the black'n'white scheme.
@Narcissus: Welcome to the Tale! The OSL and weathering is ace on those renegades!
@f2k: Paint it!!! :P Nice idea, can't wait to see the finished version.
@Little Joe: Cool puppets! AND, I'm looking forward to see your Raspy crew.
@robscott5598: Those squigs rock!
@basher: Wow, an orc pirate! Well executed paintjob on that guy. Did you get it from Black Scorpion? It's a pity that the others got stolen :(
@tancrede: Great job as usual, Mark is one of the best looking Eden minis...can we get a group shot?

And some replies:

Nightseer-I love the verdigris. I haven't seen a version of Kaeris that I like this much before. Looks great.

Wow, thanks! Well, she's the one that I like most of the crew so far...

@NightseeR: I spot a base rim in need of some black on the first picture. Nice painting and again great bases for these models. I like the Kaeris miniature a lot.

Thanks! As you can see, the base rim is painted black in the group shot - just forgot to take a pic of the finished thing alone.

@Nightseer: Great paint job for both miniatures. The bases and all the verdigris are really impressive and give a lot of character to both models.

Thanks! Seems like that almost everyone likes the verdigris thing - tho some say that I might overdo it a bit...naaaah, I like my minis dirty :D

NIGHTSEER - I like how the steamborg blends into the base. I can kind of imagine him rising up from a pile of scrap and ambushing some poor sod. I really like Kaeris but the verdigris on the wings needs tidying up a little.

Oh how I'd love if he could actually ambush someone in the game...OR actually live for long enough to kill something...About Kaeris' wings, I was in a hurry to finish her for Games Day, so I might go back and try to fix some mistakes there.

nightseer@ kaeris looks ace

Thanks!

@NightseeR: the verdigris is excellent (as on all of your minis for this tale!). Nice group shot at the end, there - the bases really tie them all together.

Thanks, and it's not the end :) I still have 2 gunsmiths, 3(4) fire gamin, the Steampunk Dorothy and Iggy (when he gets released) to do for the crew...then it will be kinda finished (alright, I'll still have to get some Large Steampunk Arachnids, Ramos avatar [gonna be converted from Ramos and a Necron Tomb Spider], some Soulstone Miners...meh, my wallet screams for mercy!)

NightseeR@ The verdigris on your stemborg and Kearis looks very nice. The bases on both on them look fantastic. Where did you get them? I wouldn't mind basing my Leveticus crew with that.

Thanks! I got the Steamborg's base from Micro Art Studio, and Kaeris' base is homemade, I think it turned out pretty nice. I also made bases for the Fire Gamins and Gunsmiths.

Now, about December. I might have to Joker this month, since SWTOR comes out...alright, I'll try to get some time to do either the Gunsmiths or something ALEPH for Infinity...

That's it for now, see ya later!

Replies:
Thanks for all of the comments. I have had a lot of fun building and converting these guys. Best part of skirmish games is the time you can put into individualizing models.

Whitwort-the heads are a mix of empire flagellants, chaos marauders, cadian, and others. The hooded heads are mostly catachan heads, shaved down and filed flat, then the hood is made from greenstuff. I hope you find some people to play DS with. I need to find some local people to play too.

Eastern heretic-the head on the servitor is either space marine commander or chaos space marine lord in terminator armour. Not sure.

GomezAddams-Next month I have a sergeant (based on nurgle lord), commander (based on sorcerer), apostate preacher (based on necromancer), death guard, and ogryn (based on rat ogre). I guess I may as well add some WIP pictures of the conversions here too.

Comments that I missed:

rotocultaxe-Avatar seamus looks exciting. A very imposing model. The base makes him look like he just broke something big. I might have to get that model just to paint. Good job on the skin tones.

tancrede-those models are amazing. I love the guy in the hoodie and faded jeans especially. Really, a very realistic post apocalyptic warrior. Really cool model and paint job.

Thanks for comments, guys !

@Narcissus : very nice conversion work on those nurgle followers, and solid paintjob too. Hope to see more soon.

Here are the latest job done :

For Eden, here is sister Yliss, now done. Not my favorite mini, but decent paintjob (I hope so ! ^^) :

NIGHTSEER - Cheers bud. Have you checked the sphere wars forum recently... :D When you do, congrats :)

Narcissus - I think I'm going to have to pick up that nurgle lord at some point. Everyone seems to convert him into something miles better then he was originally :D

BASHER - Lovely bright stuff, like it.

TANCREDE - I agree, the sister isn't a great fig. Theres something off about the pose that doesn't sit comfortably. The assembled convoy gang looks awesome though.

Update from me, mainly because I'm quite chuffed at my mad photoshop skills that took me far FAR too long.

That is one nice looking model Gomez, It is a pity that I already have the Wyrd Misaki model in my collection, or I would have gone off and gotten one of these.

Nice job on the paint job. Looks good so far.

Have fun using Misaki, she is a real beast in combat. I love the 0 action wind to extend her melee to 6", then hitting the opponent 3 times since she is a melee expert.:D

I've tended to be the reverse with the models - if I find a model I quite like, I'll paint it and then worry about where its going to fit in :D Its how I've gotten away with painting up a dreamer without actually having any neverborn :D I'll take a look at her rules tonight though I think.

I wouldn't recommend the model really - the sword is huge and wafer thin, as are those ankles which bend with the slightest bit of pressure. Its lovely, just a bit risky for regular gaming so I'll have my eyes peeled for a replacement in the new year.

Another minor update - quite proud of the face so what the hell

Tale of the Skirmish Painters 2011/2012

Month 4:

Well it's a little late, but here's my work for November. Sonnia Criid and her witch hunters.

Painting:

Undercoated black, and to be honest I can't remember everything I used. I wanted to keep them quite muted and dull though. So the lighter cloth is dehneb stone with a devlan mud wash, and assorted browns for the rest.

The totem I basecoated white and did the blue flames getting darker to the edges, and the bones are bleached bone highlighted white.

I've gloss varnished them too, as I want the protection, but when I get a new can of matte I'll be hitting them with that too.

Highs and Lows: Only highs. Wyrd do some lovely minis IMHO.

The witch hunters:

Everything so far:

Next month: I've got some guild guard and an austringer on the pots at the moment, although with the holidays I may not get much done.

WIPs are looking really good for this month so far!

As usual, I pretty much sat down and painted everything in one sitting so I'm afraid I don't have any WIPs to show, but I'll have some nice new painted minis come the new year.

@Narcissus: love what you've done with the Nurgle Lord, I'm a huge fan of Nurgle followers and have played them in every GW system. I don't play a lot of GW beyond Mordheim anymore, but I'd really love to get that model and find a way to use him.

@basher: I like the vibrant colors you're using on Seamus so far, I think they fit well and it gives an air of showmanship. Can't wait to see him and the little leprechaun finished.

@Gomez: love the model selection for Keito (although the one sleeve is maybe a tad over-the-top length, but the model is a lovely one), she looks to be turning out very nicely so far. I can see where the model would be quite delicate, though - maybe not ideal for the rough and tumble of regular gaming. Edna's skin looks great so far.

@perplexiti: nice witch hunters, I'm a fan of the diminutive three in the middle. They remind me of the conversions I did for my Mordheim Carnival of Chaos warband.

Right. Combination of being terribly busy, getting a new job, the holidays, and now being sick means that I'm out. I'll have to transfer my little project over to its own thread when I can pick up a brush again.

Thanks guys - keep up the good work!

I managed to finish my Squiggs this month and added my customized version of the old metal Gorka Morka Nob to my gang along with a nice little grot, hopefully the first of several.

I wound up using them for a diorama compitition at my local GW store for the theme "Red & Green" for the holidays and walked away with first place as well, so nice double duty on these guys this month!
