I'm looking to start a forge world listed army as some have caught my fancy and their fluff and such seems really interesting. Not sure what to go with though as i'm down to a choice of 3.

1st choice = Chaos renegades and Heretics. From IA: 5-7 siege of vraks books. Seems an interesting choice as normal IG don't interest me as much but would like to try them out and this seems like a more interesting way to do so. I'd more than likely go for the Nurgle themed army as well i like Nurgle the most and seems to be the most challenging and interesting to paint and model. Plus if i go with These guys i'd be able to play some real Siege of Vraks scenarios with my friend who has a krieg army.

2nd choice = Tyrants Legion IA: 9 The badab war pt1. This is the choice i am finding myself drawn to the most, it mixes SM with guard nicely, has really interesting background to them and well Lufgt Huron is badass :P And has a badass looking model. I like the idea of the army too with the whole IG conscripts being nothing more than meat shields for an elite fighting force of Space Marines. Plus they can have 20 man squads of marines and get to use IG tanks which i really like the look of.

3rd choice = Space marine Seige Assault Vanguard. IA: 10 The Badab war pt2. This is another army that has really drawn my attention, i already have marines so it would be the easiest for me to play and is set apart from normal SM with some really interesting options and being able to take ironclad dreads as troop choices. I love the idea of a siege force and i think taking this army and also making them Imperial fists or pre heresy iron warriors (as they were the siege specialists for SM). I love the list layout and tactical options of this list the most i feel, as it would also require the least effort to get to grips with also.

Option 4 = Any other ideas if things? I guess if you read the above you might have an idea of what i'm looking for so maybe you could help advise me on something?

I voted for the Tyrant's Legion list.

Mannimarco and myself discussed a little while back if that list could work as an Iron Warrior counts as. The conclusion he came to to was, yes it would work in his view and I agree with his assessment.

Run with it.

It does seem like a fun list. The list i was going to use as the Iron Warrior 'counts as' would have been the Siege vanguard list as it seems more fitting to the Iron Warriors fluff and background. Their whole specialty being sieges and fortifications.

The conclusion we came to was The Tyrant's Legion list was more like what you saw in Storm of Iron.

Eldar Corsair list gives some pretty nifty and uncommon options.

Harlequins with Venom as dedicated transport for exemple. Cost efficient? Maybe not but fun.

I've not managed to get my hands on a copy of IA: 11 yet but when i can i definitely will be checking them out. Have been tempted by Eldar lately but the kinda list i'd run would be mostly useless. I'd want to run a couple of Jetseer councils with lots of other bikes and stuff.

But i think the choices are down to Tyrants legion and a Siege Assault vanguard. Both really do appeal to me.

Renegades and heretics of Nurgle gets my vote. Just for the fact that the minis are great and the army really represents what I think a chaos army should be like.

If i do nd up going for the chaos option i'll wait for the next codex for more options though. I mean it would be nice if i do go renegades and heretics and know i can cross over some of my troops into a C: CSM list too.

Currently, both Death Guards and IG are viable on their own, so you shouldn't have a problem crossing over you models. I can't imagine the Legion books making Death Guards any weaker either, what with the current codex creep.

Plus it would mean if i go nurgle i can use Typhus :D He's like my fav Chaos SC. He might not be the most powerful but he's damn sure the coolest looking. I'm just not sure i'm up to the challenge of painting nurgle :( Tis a lot of work. He's my fav chaos god by a mile and also the hardest to paint. For me that's a nightmare.

You cant take Typhus in the SoD (servants of decay) list although you can take Necrosius (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/NURGLE-CHAOS-MARINE-SORCERER.html). If you;re taking Necrosius then I would reccomend going plague marine/zombie heavy. This is the "Dawn of the Dead" list.

Painting Nurgle minis doesnt need to be hard. The majority of your Vraksian army will be renegade militia who are still wearing their fatigues with scrap metal armour plates. If you can paint a cadian you can paint a renegade. Easiest of the CSMs would have to be the Apostles of Contagion (Necrosius warband) who look like Dheneb Stone and Delvan Mud.

This (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4933518&postcount=1) is my current army list. Doesnt really take advantage of the Vraks lists special characters or zombies however it does have lots of chemical weapons and gribbly monsters so its still different from the run of the mill guard army.

If you go Vraks 3 some of the models will also crossover into your CSM army like Necrosius himself as an HQ and the plague ogryns as ELITES.

This (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5121863&postcount=1) is my current CSM army using some stuff from the Vraks list and some CSM stuff. GW might have forsaken Chaos but FW has you covered pretty well as long as you like Khorne or Nurgle.

This (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4840879&postcount=10) is what you will find in each of the Vraks lists.

Here is the Tyrants Legion army list. Makes for a good IW army like AlphariusOmegon20 said earlier.

HQ
1. Lugft Huron - Badass Chapter Master in Terminator Armour, with a Heavy Flamer, Lightning Claw and some decent abilities.
2. Legion Centurion - cheap, two-wound Marine HQ.
3. Legion Auxilia Command Detachment - 5 guys, inc a half-decent commander, 2 special weapons guys, plus choice of buying a weapon team.

Elites
1. Corpse Taker - Apothecary accompanied by servitors (up to 10) who gets extra Kill Points when enemy marines die near him
2. Renegade Marauder Squad - WS4 humans, with option for 2 three-wound badasses with rending.
3. Legion Retaliator Squad - 5-10 assault marines, without jetpacks but with combat shields

Troops
1. Legon Space Marine Cohort - 10-20 Tac Marines, 1 special weapon per 5 models, but combat squadding.
2. (1+ Compulsory) Legion Auxilia - 20-40 conscripts. 1 special weapon per 10 models.
3. Auxilia Armsmen Cadre - 10-20 guardsmen, 1 special weapon, 1 heavy weapon per 10 models.

Fast Attack
1. Legion Iron Hunter Squadron - 5-10 Space Marine Bikes, no attack bike in the squad. All have counterattack. 1 special weapon per 5 models.
2. Auxilia Hellhound Flame Tank Squadron
3. Legion Sentry Gun Battery - BS2, AV10 weapons.
4. Malestrom Fleet Lighters - Crappy flying transports, but cheap

Heavy Support
1. Auxilia Battle Tank Squadron - Leam Russes
2. Auxilia Siege Defence Squadron - Thunders/Medusas/Basilisks
3. Artillery Barrage - Off table bombardments, similar to Chapter Master ability, but keeps hitting same location over and over again.
4. Auxilia Fire Support - BS2 Heavy Weapons in groups
5. Maelstrom Fleet Naval etachment - Thunderbolts, Lightnings and Vultures
6. Astral Claws Chapter Support - Heavy Choices from Codex Marines, 1 choice per Legion Space Marine Cohort

I already have all the books so i know what's in all the lists :D It;s why i've been so interested in them.

But it's good to see someone that's caught the Nurgle bug (pun intended) giving some insight into this thread and has now pushed me back to my 3 choices again and maybe even in favour of nurgle renegades. hmmmmmm.

And i meant using Typhus in a C: CSM army that i could use after next codex release seeing as i;d have the plague marines from this army lol. That's assuming Typhus is still in the next chaos codex.

One word: KRIEG

My friend already has a massive Krieg army. Well over 2500pts worth. Which might not sound like much but money worth tis very expensive seeing as he's running loads of infantry.

I voted for the renegades since I have an army of them myself. I have the nurgle variety since I wanted to do an army around those models. This list also allows you to expand your FW army into two separate (codex) armies if you collect enough models for either of them. Also, mutants are always fun to kit bash and zombies are nice and fluffy ;)

Nurgle iz da best Chaos god. Unless you're playing fantasy in which case its tzeentch all the way. I just love the death Guard and the Typhus model and just Nurgle in general. He's awesome.

It also seems like this next C: CSM codex will be good for if i want to actually play a Death Guard Legion army too :D Well, if the rumours and unveiled bits of info are true.

But i really don't wanna have to paint Nurgle models as i wants em to look good and i'm a terrible painter with no patience for it. Doesn't help there is a whole Nurgle collection sitting in a cabinet at my local GW that is just breathtaking. Including the best looking Typhus model i've ever seen.

If Krieg are a no go, then I'll suggest you go for the renegade and heretics army.

If you have a Xenos inclination, then I would suggest the Eldar Corsairs.

Either why, when you are done, you would have one really stunning looking army.

Cheers.

I voted for the siege vanguard list as that is what my marines are, so I am biased. :)

Albeit I have never managed to win a game playing them although....

armoured company.

its amazing. 1750 points gives you like 15 tanks on the board. you kick bum turns one and two, but once they get on you in CC it evens out big time. fun, looks awesome, very powerful and your codex is free.

LUGFT HURON.

That is all.

I don't like the idea of an armoured company. My friend tried it and it didn't work out too well for him. Plus the rules are so damn old. If they did an updated version then i might think about it but for now, not a chance.

I think your choice should partly be dictated by what models you like the most. Each of the lists has a focus on specific types of models. The tyrants list can be built with a pretty evan spread (if you want) of marine and IG (human) style units. The R&H lists all have a stronger "lean" towards IG style units with only a few marine units and also adds in "monsters". The seige list (I don't know what this list is exactly) from what I have heard will have you painting lots of dreads. So I think it comes down to what you fancy painting\modeling the most. Dreads? IG\Marines of loyal variety or lots of IG, few marines and a few monsters in a darker more sinister style.

Think i'm going to go with Tyrants Legion. I'll wait till next C: CSM release to worry about any chaos i might want. I want to eventually have 1/2 of each IOM, Chaos and Xenos armies. Currently i only have small Blood angels and Tyranids. And my tyranids are mostly just genestealers anyway :P
