The Tale of Fantasy Painters 2011-2012: Month 5 (Jan painting and Feb WIP)

This is the thread where you post what you painted in January.

Please post nothing else for 1 week, and then after the first week of Feb please feel free to comment on the work of others.

Mission Statement:

It is the goal of The Tale of Fantasy Painters, and all Tales for that matter, to help fellow gamers paint their armies by providing them a place to find support and encouragement.

The Tale:

The painters involved have made a commitment to paint and post, by the last day of each month, approx 200 points of their chosen army. They do this each month for the next 12 months.

The way it works is that painting would begin in September and then in the first day or two of October a thread will be put up where you can post what you had done in September (this trend will continue for 12 months). You can include as much information as you wish, but some good things to include along with the picture are: the units, the total points for that month, conversions, highs and lows, plans for next month, and a number between 1 and 6. The number is important because it has to do with feedback.

A week after the initial thread is created you can then (and are encouraged to) add feedback on the work of others. Due to the large number of people who take part in these tales it is suggested that you only comment on those that have the same number as you. Of course if there are ones that really catch your eye, or you are a trooper and want to comment on them all, that is obviously awesome.

However, because people have real lives with exams, holidays, honeymoons, new babies etc, etc. They get two 'Jokers'. For two months within the year you can ‘play a joker’ and rather than post an update they can post "sorry guys couldn't get it done this month. Real life got in the way." But the other 10 Months they have to come up with (approx) 200 points of painted and based figures. That is 200 points for 10 of the next 12 months.

In twelve months time we will all end up with a finished 2000 point army.
(Or at least everyone who can see it through to the end ... it's harder than you think!)

Men and Boys:

Because this is harder than you would think ... As last year rather than try and hold everyone to 200 points a month I have decided to allow folks to join in and paint only 100 points a month. Whilst the goal for many remains getting a 2000 point army painted in a year the original and ongoing intention of this whole thing was to encourage and support folks to get stuff painted and 1000 points is better than no points! As a result we have two categories. 'Men' (painting 200 points/month) and 'Boys' (painting 100 points/month).

Frequently Asked Questions

Q : When can I join in? Does it have to be at the start or can it be any time?
A : Join in any time.

Q : Can I paint more than 200 points in a month?
A : Yes, but if you can do this time after time then you can probably commit to more. Feel free to sign up multiple times to reflect the amount of work you plan to do (for example sign up for Beastmen X2 and submit 400 points a month, or Beastmen Men + Boy submit 300 points a month).

Q : Can I paint less than 200 points in a month?
A : Yes. But we try to stay on track by painting more points in the next month to 'catch up'. For example if you only painted 100 points one month you could try and get 300 points painted the next month. Equally if you paint more one month you can take it easy and paint less the next month.

Q : What happens when I paint an expensive character?
A : This happens a lot. If your character was over 400 points you would simply paint him over two months (the sort of time your general deserves!) So You start posting him one month and post nothing the first month (unless you want to post WIP) then the second month you post the finished model and all the points get added on.

Q : What do I do when I'm done and the tale isn't over?
A : First thing to do is to include an army shot (everyone loves an army shot) and then it's up to you. Either stay on and paint a model now and then to take part, or start planning for the next tale. If you are really cocky then you can sign up for ANOTHER army is see if you can blitz it in time.

Q : Can I include a short narrative with each months post.
A : Yes. We love background stuff. Write as much as you like it will be read and enjoyed by many.

Q : Can I *insert something here that results in more painting*?
A : A thousand times yes!!!

Q : Can Doi drop out?
A : No he can't.

DICE ROLL: 5!

UNIT: A few more temple guard and the unit champion, terradons, five chameleon skinks, 'kroxigor' and an engine of the gods howdah.

POINTS THIS MONTH: 436

BUILD/CONVERSION: Did some temple road on the champs base.

HIGHS: I like how the stone effect on the howdah came out and the terradons look really nice with paint on.

LOWS: The tourney im entered in has been pushed forward, meaning i probably wont finish the army in time.

NEXT MONTH: Last sallie, handlers, extra handlers, stegadon, slann, five chameleon skinks and about forty(?!) remaining skink cohorts.

ARMY: Dark Elves

UNIT: 1 Supreme Sorceress and 1 Hydra with handlers

BUILD/CONVERSION: Straight of the box (which in case of the Hydra came from Grendel). The Sorceress stands on an inverted base filled with water effect, which regrettably is impossible to see in the pictures, to make it look like she is drawing her swirling magical energies from the ocean. The base for the Hydra was made from GW's modular base kit, because the thing turned out to be bigger than expected.
A low is the water effect I'm using, because that stuff shrinks so incredibly much. I've filled the Sorceress's base to the brim four times now and still it's half empty. Or half full, if you are one of those ridiculous optimistic types.

HIGHS & LOWS: Getting something finished for this army is a high by itself. And I am very pleased how the base for the Hydra worked out.

POINTS: 400

TOTAL POINTS: 915 (which means I get one Joker back)

DICE ROLL: 4!

UNIT: Ok, 15 savage orcs, ten archers and five boyz, three trolls and Wurzaag

POINTS THIS MONTH: 590 (can I use some of these points to get rid of some jokers?)

BUILD/CONVERSION: did the scenic base on wurzag not much conversion work this time.

HIGHS: I'm liking the skin tones finally and the woad tats. I like painting teef and toez.

LOWS: painting metal just grinds my gears. I had a bit of trouble with wurzag but he was still a fun model. Layering upon layering of orc skin to get it just right.

NEXT MONTH: Looks like I'll have thirty more savages in the mail, one Avatar of war brute, another wurzagg (for bits) and five boar boysz.

Well this month was all about characters. First of all I converted up a couple for my brother and painted them to help him starting his new orc army, and then I needed to convert up some crazy characters for my Battle of the Beast tournament where you can mount monsters from any book.

Units and Points: Orc warboss on stonehorn, great night goblin shaman on abyssal terror, savage orc great shaman, and black orc bsb for a total of 910.

Highs and lows: I've had this stornhorn conversion sitting around for a long time so it was great to finish it off (plus it did great at the tournament), plus my brother loved the characters I made for him. The low would be the night goblin shaman conversion which was rush being that the model was converted and painted the night before the tournament.

What I'm going to actually need to do now is combine this to say I'm done my men's entry (join my men and boyz together) as I'm now going to be blitzing a 2K ogre army in a two and a half months.

Lets see how it goes...

Please, be a nitpick. That way we keep it tidy.

And, finally, an entry of my own!

ARMY: Orcs & Goblins

UNIT: 1 Black Orc Warboss

BUILD/CONVERSION: The wyvern was painted last year, so I'm not counting nor discussing that one. The Warboss, based on the Azhag model, had the banner removed and now got a shield instead of a second hand weapon. That way, I can use it as a normal Warboss instead of Azhag. (EDIT- Nearly forgot... I also cut off the hanging bit of his mouth, and resculpted it to give him a normal mouth.)

HIGHS & LOWS: High is finally getting something actually finished. It's the first model since last year January...

Army: Avelorn (Wood Elves)

Unit: Six Treekin

Points: 390

Total Points So Far: 1530

I was asked last month how I get my natural looking wood/bark on the dryads and treekin. I start by basecoating Adeptus Battlegrey, then drybrush Astronomicon Grey. Then I wash with Ogryn Flesh, straight with no water, and then highlight again with an extremely dry, extremely light drybrush of Astronomicon Grey.

Anyway, the challenge this month was to get what I generally consider to be some poor looking models to look better. The colorful basing was a given, and then I made sure to get as much green and other bright colors onto the models as possible. The eyes are bright blue, the spites purple, and I even went so far as to give some of them green "hair" and "beards", just to get some bright colors onto the otherwise bland colors. Since these models were finecast, I also modified them somewhat to have less limbs so that they look more aggressive and streamlined. Anway...

Hi, here is my entry for january 2012

Category : boyz

Army : Orcs and Goblins

Units : orc shaman (65 pts), night goblin shaman (50 pts), 3 cave squigs (24 pts) = 129 pts (424 pts/1200 pts)

Dice roll : 5

Highs : I had fun painting the shamans, even if it took me quite some time since I wanted to do my best on them. The squigs were quite easy and quick to paint, which is most welcomed in an army with a high number of models. I'm proud how the skin on the shamans turned out.

Lows : the time spent on the shamans, and also the fact that I've still some details not painted on both of them (but for not knowing what colour to paint them).

Still to do : varnish and glueing some grass, the same as all my model in fact ^^

Onto the pictures :

@Everyone: Sorry for not replying to the previous thread. The last 2 weeks have been a whirlwind.

Three things got in the way of painting progress:

(a) My friend found me a job.
(b) I just bought a bundle of all pretty much every White Dwarf from 100 to now and browsed through them all
(c) It has taken me weeks to find the pics of the original Heroquest painted figures by Mike McVey (they are on the side of the box, not up on any BoardGameGeek pics, and in WD c.115).

Unfortunately the job fell through, so I have had to move and then move back in the last fortnight! :O

Browsing the WDs took ages! <sigh>

I did finally find the pics from HQ so I can now paint my Chaos Sorceror. :)

I promise that 'Acts of God' notwithstanding, I shall comment on everybody's progress this month. The armies all look great so far.

@Malorian: I've not dropped out of Chaos. I'll catch up over the Tale. Everything's cool, I will get on top of the painting.

EDIT DICE ROLL 1

Highs: Glad to see it finished and the more I look at it, the happier I am, I also like the Dark blue I have with shields and spiders tying in the army together nicely.

Lows: Took such a long time to paint, rushed in the end, would like to have done 800 points by this stage, will try to get more than 200 each month for the next few months to catch up a little.

Points: 159 + 159 + 85 + 85 = 488pts

Total: 1596 + 488 = 2084pts

Fairly productive month - 2 decently sized units of Gunners (They use Tilean 'Light Shot' which flies further but has less penetration power - aka 'count as Crossbows')

One unit uses 'The Blessing' as musician and marksman, the other uses an Empire citizen duellist and Hasslefree Bard.

Not much special with the cannons aside from some headswaps and one converted crew using Militia body and legs. They have been named 'Bertha' and 'Cynthia' (My first one is 'Agatha' - I haven't gotten around to adding the names to the bases though)

Am housesitting at the moment so don't have my usual photography set up, so afraid the pics are even worse than usual!

ARMY: 1000 points High Elves

BACKGROUND: This army defends the kingdom Avelorn in the north of Ulthuan.

Last month I promised you 14 swordmasters. And I was happily painting when real life knocked on my door ....... with a sledgehammer...
We had to move my father to a nursing home because of his deteriorating health. No time or energy to paint swordmasters.
But I don't want to use a joker. So I have quickly painted an eagle.

UNIT: Great Eagle

CONVERSION: These old eagles have got big wings and small bodies. My brother helped me bulk out the body and shoulders with a piece of sprue, super glue and green stuff.

BASE: A Micro Art Studio Ruins base. Last month I said that there once was a white wizard's tower in Avelorn. That explains why Avelorn has his own unit of swordmasters. This eagle is sitting on the ruins of the white tower. The blue vial on the left is a remainder of the wizard's inventory.

Army - 2000 points dwarves

Background - Since we're playing Blood in the Badlands, I thought that the appearance of "Nuffle's Irregulars" could be linked back to a tied Bloodbowl match between dwarves and goblins, last quarter, the dwarf kicker gives the ball the boot...and it latches onto the underside of the magical floating fortress that comes around once a century. Cue the dwarf fans grabbing all available weaponry and tearing off into the Badlands after the ball (because the game can't be finished if neither team can produce another ball, and of course, neither team could) led by the referee.

Highs - I just love painting the old-school dwarves. And it's my first time with unit fillers, the ogre and the deathroller seemed appropriate.

Lows - And now it's on to the slightly more boring units - hammerers, great weapons, crossbows, etc. We'll see what else I can dredge up.

Points - 50 dwarves with hand weapons and full command run me about 480 points I believe.

Unit - 6 furies and one herald on a bloodcrusher.

Highs - Just glad to see the end of this army in sight at this point, I've had a lot of fun painting it. Only have six bloodcrushers to go now! And maybe some odds and ends, might do a few more horrors.

Lows - Those old furies are not the greatest sculpt ever, but they'll do.

LOWS: I'm still experimenting with skin tones but these have turned out alright. I have butchered the eyes on some of them though and haven't had the time to fix it.

NEXT MONTH: Haven't decided yet. Dreadlord on a Dragon, Supreme Sorceress on a Manticore or a Hydra and Handlers...

TOTAL POINTS: 382 + 250 = 632

BUILD/CONVERSION: The rider has been converted into a pose that I either want to call "Ten points if I hit you between the eyes" or "This next one wont miss" :shifty:. I've also replaced the trophy rack on the seat with the army standard.

HIGHS: Very happy with this guy.

LOWS: I didn't quite align the magnets properly so the rider is looking into the sky...

Army: The High House of Chains, 2400pts of Druchii
Monthly Target: 240 pts
This Months Total: 248pts
Jokers Used: 0

Completed: 11 Black Guard with full command, Razor Standard and Terrifying Mask of Eeeee

Background: As High House Chains grows in strength, it attracts the favour of other noble houses of Clar Karond. One such house is led by the Dread Lady Nymeria, Mistress of the Obsidian Tower and her Wardens act as bodyguards and lovers both. Taken from the most attractive sons of noble Druchii families and led by Morvain Salazar, the First of the Favoured, the Wardens are sworn to never reveal their faces in public, instead presenting an impassive armoured visage to those who would stand in their Lady's way.

Conversion work: Phoenix Guard torso's and arms with Kabalite Warrior heads and Hellion glaive blades topping the halberds. The censer/maces are taken from some random PP Menoth stuff I had lying around and represent the effects of the Mask of Eee, filled as they are with various burning hallucinogenic drugs. The champion is a simple double hand swap for the foot version of Prince Althran

Highs: The conversion work was so simple yet immensely effective and the reversed colour scheme has worked really well in my opinion. This has fast become one of my favourite units.

Lows: Bleergh I did not get a lot painted in January. Not entirely sure why, but I should have been able to finish the entire unit of 17 plus Nymeria herself, but instead I struggled to get these 11 done. Bad times.

Next months WiP: Last rank of 6 Wardens and Nymeria (who is already 2/3rds done). Possibly even one of those fabled chariots I keep mentioning.

Dice Roll: 2.

Dawi : 2000 POINTS (MEN)

UNIT: Thorek Ironbrow & Kraggi, & The White Dwarf.

BACKGROUND/THEME:

BUILD/CONVERSION: No conversions, just stock models here. I'm using the the White Dwarf as a lord with assorted gubbins, as I don't know how much he costs, and I can't be botherd trawling through my WDs to find out.

PAINTING: For the metal, chainmail, with a badab black wash then a chainmail drybrush, Tallern flesh with an ogryn flesh wash and a dwarf flesh drybrush. The gold was mithril silver washed with gryphonne sepia. I basecoated the stone with fenris grey then did lighter drybrushes. Washed beards, and brass on the anvils forge.

BASING: Just black, will base the whole army together.

STILL TO DO: Just Basing.

HIGHS AND LOWS: No lows for the anvil, it's such a great mini. The White Dwarf I have though is the free one that came with a copy of the white dwarf magazine ages ago, it's my least favourite of his minis, but also the only one I own.

BUILD/CONVERSION: Straight out of the box.

PAINTING: Basecoated black, then the foundation Dehneb stone. Chainmail on the metal bits with gryphonne sepia wash, purple wash for the scales, flesh wash for the skin and devlan mud for the scales. I wasn't very inspired by these guys as they look pretty stupid IMHO.

BASING: Sand, painted black with a heavy vermin brown drybrush.

STILL TO DO: Nothing major still unsure how to finish the bases.

HIGHS AND LOWS: Highs, not having to paint any more of these, Lows, having to paint some of these.

Army: The Stormbreaker Tribe [2000 Points Ogre Kingdoms]

Unit: Bulrog/Gorlub, the Divided Self - Curs'd Ettin

Build/Conversion: Out of the box. Outstanding miniature. Didn't give it the broken Rhinox head though, I like him this way.

Still to do: Nothing. Besides losing hours just staring with open mouth at him, just because the miniature is that awesome.

Highs: One of the best miniatures I ever had. Incredible texture, incredible faces, incredible detail. He even has two spines!

Lows: Cheaper than GW's Finecast. Oh, that's a high? Hmm, then none. ;)

Time for some comments for January !!

As a general thought, is it me or it seems that less and less people are posting their work/comments ?

@ Momus : nice sallies !!Nice to see some old models getting some love. Keep it up !

@ emperornorton : I was eager to comment on your work, man. Your hydra is a pure beauty, and very nicely painted too. Your slavers conversions are good as well.

@ loki73 : great savage orcs, the skin is nice. And you seem to paint quite fast, I'm not sure I'd be able that much in a month (in number of models). I like your trolls also, I had an idea to apint mine in brown tones also, I'll save some pictures of yours for further reference. Keep it up anyway !

@ Malorian : as much as I like your conversion work, I think the painting is a bit too light (??), I mean they are not dark enough to my taste particularly the winged nightmare. But great work nonetheless ! I'd like to see more

@ gogs78 : as usual, great work, painting, basing everything is beautiful !

@ Braad : as I said in your fantasy log, your triolet of wyverns is an impressive view that makes me want to do the same. I like the savage orc boss conversion most. How did you convert azhag's mouth?

@ GuardsmenHawke : I think your model would look better with a couple highlights, unless you mean to let them like that. Great job anyway, and good luck for the next months !

@ Kaos : as always, great work on those dwarves, and the blue colour. The little men have nice expressions on their faces :p

@ tekore : yep, poor model looking better now :D thanks for sharong your wood recipe, I'll try it myself on wooden parts on my warmachines. Keep it up !

@ Laborious : super leadbelchers, I particularly dig the skin and the metal parts. The snow base is fantastic as well.

@ Rikk : superb arachnarok !! Though bigger pictures would be nice, I can tell that your spider and goblins are wonderful. I like the white pattern on the bug's back, and the red contour of the eyes

@ zark the damned : yellow is difficult to paint is a common thought. Yours looks bright and clean. However your pictures are a bit dark, I think there is a bad contrast with the background.

@ great horned owl : magnific conversion. The painting is top notch, with vibrant contrasts between the colours. The base is very beautiful, and I like beautiful bases. So keep on showing such cool models !!

That's all for page one, saty tuned for page 2

Hi, I am still painting the army. I have been busy with real life though out January. I only have 6 bases to finish for last months task, which will be done tonight.

Also the fact that I played a game with my Skaven lastnight really got me motivated again. I may "cheat" this month and paint Deathmaster Snitch to bulk up may points. But after that I will get back to the slaves.

Thanks

@MOMUS: The base work is splendid, really helps lighten up the lizards – my favorites are the chameleon skins, creepy red vibe.

@EmperorNorton: Hah, so my boss just asked me what I was looking at – fortunately he plays Warriors of Chaos, so my blithered explanation went over ok. Tzeentch works in mysterious ways. Anyhow, the sorceress looks stunning, you’ve done great work with the flesh tone (something I’m bad at) and I love the hydra – they sure have been feeding that thing!

@Loki73: Would you mind if I tried out that orange? Do you base in black or white? And every time I see you work on orcs, it reminds me that I’ve got zillions of them to get cracking on – thanks for the inspiration, I might have to get started on them once the demons are done.

@Malorian: Good golly Miss Molly, I have an extra abyssal terror and a goblin at home RIGHT NOW. Those are some great ideas for conversions – I bet the orc headbutted the Stonehorn into submission. Love the fur on the giant gribbly especially! Also very much like the banner work.

@Gogs78: Wonderful work on the blending purple, mate. Your stuff puts mine to shame!

@Braad: Wow, that’s an ace model – might have to pick one up at the shop. I feel your pain with three of a kind, I think I’m up to seven wyverns now, all different ages. It’s a shame they’re not so good on the field!

@GuardsmenHawke: Those spearmen are second to none, my jaw literally dropped. Wonderful little touches to them. Might have to do up a regiment in red myself…

@Kaos: Kaos, your stuff as usual pops right out – I’m trying out that blue tonight, though the last few times I’ve attempted something that bright have met with failure. Really love what you’re doing with the army as a whole, very cohesive!

@Tekore: Wow, the army’s really meshing well, isn’t it? The basework really helps with that, well done. Love the paintjob on the treekin too!

@Laborious: Ah, the gnoblar’s a nice touch! I like the addition of height to these guys, I have 12 of the original Golfag’s Ogres – silly old models – and have to do something similar, so I’m watching your work with great interest.

@Azhag Morglum: Wow, the skin on those shamen is second to none – and of course I love the squigs. Your stuff really is top notch, you should be proud of it.

@Rikk: It’s my favorite word from 2011 – Arachnarok! I love the goblins especially here, but the spider looks just real enough for me to take my feet off the floor for a while.

@Zark the Damned: Let’s see an army shot! I love how your stuff is turning out, pity my Empire’s all finished. You a fan of the new handgunner models? The old single-pose do have a certain charm, I think.

@Great horned owl: Sorry to hear about your father mate, that’s a tough thing to go through. Eagle does look wonderful – always have had a tough time dealing with them on the tabletop. Love the work you did on the base too.

@colonel kane trine: Oh, lovely work on the minos and the razorgor especially. And I’m a sucker for well-painted chaos spawn, wonderful there also!

@Doi: Yes, wonderful work on the head-swap, first thing I noticed. I think you’re a bit too hard on yourself with the skin tone, it looks a little muted here and there but otherwise mint!

@daismith906: Wow, nice work by your friend. Tell him I have three of those to paint and could use a hand, will ya? 

@JackDaw: Blast and damnation, JackDaw, yet another idea I’ll have to thief wholesale. Uh, if you don’t mind. The censer is my favorite bit of the whole unit, actually. And the paintjob is second to none. Get yourself down to Boston and we’ll fire a game up! :P

@Morglum Necksnapper: Wonderful work there – army shot is fantastic. I love what you do with your skin tones and have been experimenting on my own snotlings (hope you don’t mind, your stuff is teaching me quite a bit) – you’re going to keep painting with us I hope?

@perplexiti – Oh, the chainmail really stands out, doesn’t it? And I just did my own Anvil, love that model. Looking forward to seeing it all based!

@Morkash – oh, wow, that’s quite a model isn’t it? Love the skin tone, the whole kit looks very creepy.

@DAGabriel – love the carrion mate. I also vote hobgoblins!

@Shandowner – Oh, good, the army shot! Love how these guys have turned out, just corkin.

@ Braad : as I said in your fantasy log, your triolet of wyverns is an impressive view that makes me want to do the same. I like the savage orc boss conversion most. How did you convert azhag's mouth?

Azhag's mouth? Well, I took my clippers and cut the hanging part off, then resculpted it with greenstuff.

@Braad: Wow, that’s an ace model – might have to pick one up at the shop. I feel your pain with three of a kind, I think I’m up to seven wyverns now, all different ages. It’s a shame they’re not so good on the field!

Not good on the field? He already played his first battle, and single handedly took down marius leitdorf and chased his bodyguard of 7 inner circle knights of the board, after headbutting a cannonball back to it's owner, and ducking under a huge ball of flaming magic ****.

@ azhag morglum, It does seem like interest in this log is going very downhill!

That's normal, happens every year. Only the die-hard painters stay with us till the end.

Sweet, I finished my BSB today, and found out our camera is broke as a joke. If anyone has run into this problem: After you take the picture and it goes to show it on the screen and it's got pixel lines horizontally. Anyone have any recommendations for a good one around the 300 dollar mark? I'll snap a pic on my phone and post it, but cmon!

@ dwarfhold13
If you want to use the camera for taking pics of miniatures, make sure that the focal point distance can be very close to the lens and it has good options for macro. Other than that, I guess most camera's will do. I got an older Sony model similar to, for example, the current Nicon Coolpix L120. I really love this type of camera. It's not as cumbersome and more user friendly then SLR camera's, but better picture quality than those small pocket models. Since every camera now has a gazillion pixels, it's the lens size that often really adds to picture quality.

Now that I'm looking at that Nikon... GIMME!

@MOMUS (Lizardmen): A nice variety of beasties there.
@EmperorNorton (DE): Lovely Sorceress. Awesome, awesome Hydra. I love the Grendel models and that looks the part next to the tiny DE handlers >:D
@Loki73 (O&G): VERY nicely done.I really like the fierce orange trolls!
@Malorian (O&G): Yep - the Stonehorn and the Orc Warboss are well-suited to each other {>
@gogs78 (HE): These are great. Enough said.
@Braad (O&G): The rider is well-chosen. His pose fits really well with that of the Wyvern. The dark painting adds to the grim and hard image.
@GuardsmenHawke (HE): That's a fair lot. Nice work. Keep them coming :)
@Kaos (Dwarves): The blue colour is lovely. The brass is well done too. Thumbs up for that wall art.
@Tekore (WE): Dark and grim. Perfect for WE.
@Laborious (OK): Nice Ogres. They'll stand out against those snow bases.
@azhagmorglum (O&G): Exquisite painting on those Shamen. Beautiful.
@Rikk (O&G): Hehe. Arachanarok. Big, bold and blue, with a nice back pattern. Good work.
@Zark the Damned (DoW): Congratulations on finishing. 40-odd figures in a month is good going. Please do an army shot next month though.
@Great horned owl (HE): Very inventive and charming conversion there.
@colonel kane trine (BoC): Those Minotaurs look fierce hehe.
@doomscape (Dwaves): That army fluff sounds perfect for stubborn Dwarves. You have a lovely selection of models there, and your army interests me because we have similar painting styles and basing. One word though - I don't think any Dwarves would be daft enough to stand IN FRONT of the Deathroller. Get it into the front rank!
@doomscape (DoC): Nice work.
@Doi (DE): Ooh. You are getting close to completion now. 1460pts already. I'm liking the blue contrast colour.
@Doi (OK): That is a huge figure. The rider's pose looks great.
@daismith906 (OK): Your painting is superb as always, but I just hate that sculpt. The wheels and fur are very nice.
@JackDaw (DE): Great. I really rate these. The black armour and sinister green eyes gives them a dark edge.
@Morglum Necksnapper (O&G)@ Snotlings are always fun. Add mushrooms, pump wagons, and dragon wings and the fun factor goes up another million percent. Your army looks fantastic, I bet it would be loads of fun to play (or play against).
@perplexiti (Dwarves): Thorek is a great sculpt and you've really done him justice as far as I'm concerned.
@perplexiti (Lizarmen): The muted and realistic lizard colours work well.
@Morkash: He certainly looks nasty! :O
@DAGabriel (TK): Great TK figs. The base looks great. If you do them all like that, they could take some time....
@Shandowner (Spartan HE proxy): Congratulations on passing the finish line. The army looks great. Please could you do a bigger army pic though?
@Fabius Bile (OK): Great base and good paintjob.

WIP pics to follow shortly.

Hi Guys! Love your work, here are my comments for this month:

Page 1

@MOMUS (Lizardmen): Love that old school saurus warriors. Nice work but a little low on contrast.
@EmperorNorton (DE): Have seen that Hydra on your thread, breathtaking.
@Loki73 (O&G): love your work, am just starting on my hobgoblins and will have to compete with you, poor me.
@Malorian (O&G): Nice start, more, quicker, greener!
@gogs78 (HE): Very clean painting, great work.
@Braad (O&G): More green, but nice painting. Only thing I don`t really like are the wings, but don`t know how to make it better.
@GuardsmenHawke (HE): Really productive, but what happened to that banner?
@Kaos (Dwarves): Another one to compete, won`t you convert to Hashut?
@Tekore (WE): Good work on models I don`t really like, nice basing.
@Laborious (OK): Nice Ogres. They could need alittle more contrast.
@azhagmorglum (O&G): Great - work - fullstop.
@Rikk (O&G): Arachnophobia!
@Zark the Damned (DoW): Congrats, as far as the pics allow a comment it is nice work.
@Great horned owl (HE): Love it!!! Only the tree could use another highlight.

Page 2

@colonel kane trine (BoC): Nice work for such a workload.
@doomscape (Dwaves): Love those models and the painting seems to be nice. Crappy pics.
@doomscape (DoC): Nice old models.
@Doi (DE): Why do DE-gals don`t wear real armor?
@Doi (OK): Sweet one.
@daismith906 (OK): Love that thing, the painter did good work, only the face is Ö not that good.
@JackDaw (DE): Nice work here, a great concept.
@Morglum Necksnapper (O&G): Love them, sweet work with many funny aspects. The army looks great
@perplexiti (Dwarves): Another one to convert to Hashut. Why do you invest such great work into those weaklings?
@perplexiti (Lizarmen): Nice Lizzies!
@Morkash: Don`t love the sculpt, nice basing.

Page 3

@Shandowner (Spartan HE proxy): Congratulations on finishing. Pity the pics aren`t so good. And yeah, CDs for ever!
@Fabius Bile (OK): That is painting, love him!.

DWARVES WIP:

I have been busy painting and am still committed to the ToFP 2011-12 cause.

On the Dwarf front, I have purchased some rather fetching stonthrowers from Foundry:

http://i1030.photobucket.com/albums/y362/Z7654321/FP1.jpg
Stone throwers for splatting Goblins and Skaven.

http://i1030.photobucket.com/albums/y362/Z7654321/FP2.jpg
This stone thrower is done, apart from highlights on the metals.

http://i1030.photobucket.com/albums/y362/Z7654321/FP3.jpg
The Dwarf is a limited edition model commissioned by a group of us over on a popular Dwarf web forum. I just got him and painted him up this week

http://i1030.photobucket.com/albums/y362/Z7654321/FP5.jpg

http://i1030.photobucket.com/albums/y362/Z7654321/FP6.jpg
He's not finished yet (about 3/4 there), but I think he's come out pretty well.

The stone throwers are lovely models (and they are discounted if you buy 3 of the same, as is most Foundry stuff). If you get some, then I would strongly recommend some heavy duty glue and green stuff, as these are hefty models.

I'm going all out on a warmachine offensive for my Dwarves in the Tale of Fantasy Painters. I have loads of footsloggers now, so some artillery will give me a welcome break from them. I'm not bothered about making a 'technically legal' 2000pts this time (though I probably will), as I could probably make a 5000ish pt army 'legally' from my collection. For now, I just want to finish my AoW characters and get lots of warmachines!

The Chaos army so far

My plan is to finish these (including the Knights) in the next month. This will take me to about 1200pts. Then I'll probably paint up a Chariot of Khorne, and a unit of Tzeentch Knights. Marauders/Warriors will follow these and round out the points to 2000.

So, if I get it right you now got 3x 0 points, in month 4 you got 590 and in month 5 it's 605 totalling 1195 with no jokers?

I thought originaly that my total for the month was 605. I was off. It actually is 590. No worries. as long as im on track im good. I was just wondering if we could split the difference to get rid of some jokers. ie 200 for this month 200 for last month, 190 for the month before that getting rid of two of my jokers. NO worries though just keep as is. ;)

@EmperorNorton Love the dark elves. I especially like your hydra. You put allot of effort modelling wise into it. Nice job!

@Gogs Nice HE! Very clean and beautiful!

@Braad Nice job! I like the one in the middle best. Is that a savage orc shaman?

@Guardsmenhawke Nice elves man. Looks like your getting allot done. One of the banners looks like it has some over spray though. The faces look especially good!

@Kaos Those dwarves are pimp! I sooooo want to do a dwarf army now!

I based with army painter vermin fur (i think) then I air brushed on P3 Khador red highlight.

I always put the points painted on the month they are painted in. That looks nicer in the graph. However, if you paint enough, I change "Joker" to "0". So, indeed, you got no jokers. You'll see in next month's table.

@Braad Nice job! I like the one in the middle best. Is that a savage orc shaman?

No, a warboss. I did convert him from a shaman, but that was mainly because I needed a mostly naked body.

Righty, time for some comments then people.

It is sad to see people leaving, but everyone's got their reasons - I'm just happy I got to see a bit of their stuff before they left.

Page 1
MOMUS - everythings coming along nicely there fella - the howdah looks especially good

Emperor Norton - I've already commented on your Sorceress on your plog, but she still looks great. The Hydra has come out really well as well, the little touchs on the base are top notch

Loki73 - great job making the Savage Orc plastics look good fella

Malorian - nice conversion work, the Stonehorn actually looks pretty good with an Orc on top.

Gogs78 - really nice work, the crisp white and metallics work nicely with that rich imperial purple. That's how High Elves should look.

Braad - more nice greenskins, a trio of Wyverns is a huge amount of work so kudos to you

GuardsmenHawke - coming along very nicely fella, very nicely indeed

Kaos - beautiful work on that classic sculpt, the crew look great

Tekore - I'm not a fan of the Treekin models, but you've done a good job on them - the basing finishes them off nicely

Laborious - solid work mate. I feel your pain in terms of low output, but these Ogres are looking good

AzhagMorglum - I think your Orcs are my favourite so far. Your skin tone and highlighting is great and there's a real nice natural look to your army far. More please!

Rikk - great looking Spider fella, the markings are great work

Zark the Damned - loving the bright yellow cloth, very striking

Great Horned Owl - lovely scenic base, and the eagle is very nicely done. Looking forward to seeing more of your elves.

Page 2
CKT - again, a monumental output from you. The new pics are much easier to look at as well, really showing your work off nicely.

Doomscape (Dwarves) - that unit is full of character, I love the Blood Bowl fillers. Great work

Doomscape (Daemons) - the green is still a bit much for me, but the finished effect is good.

Doi (Dark Elves) - Yay, more lovely Dark Elves! Your skin tone is lovely, very smooth - though I can tell those ladies are a little chilly in that snow. Ahem. The assassin looks good as well. Now paint some more damn you.

Doi (Ogres) - more sterling work there, very nice indeed.

Daismith906 - loving these blue Ogres mate. The big ol' doom-gun came out nicely as well.

Morglum Necksnapper - your conversions always raise a smile mate, fantastic work as always.

Perplexti (Dwarves) - nice work on those Dwarves, good to see the WD mini getting used.

Perplexti (Lizardmen) - the grey colour is an interesting choice, very natural looking. Can't wait to see more.

Morkash - great work there fella, though the lighting in some pics does hide a bit of the work you've clearly put in. The last pic does a great job showing off the work you put into the faces.

DAGabriel - nice work on the Carrion, but that base for the Hellcannon is a show-stealer.

Page 3
Shandowner - Fantastic work fella, not much else I can say really. Kudos to you.

Fabius Bile - looks great mate, really nice. The base is pretty special.

Purplebeard - that dwarf lord is ace, really nice sculpt. I am disappointed by the lack of purple in his beard though.... ;). Nice to see those classic minis in your Chaos army as well.

And replies to people kind enough to comment on mine:
@ Perplexti - cheers mate - its such a simple but effective conversion I think.
@ Doomscape - haha feel free to steal away mate, feel free. Next time I'm across the pond I'm sure the House of Chains will be more than happy to pay your foolish Asur a visit ;)
@ Purplebeard - thanks mate, glad you liked the green eyes - they were an odd choice for a FB unit but I think they've paid off.
@ DAGabriel - again, thanks mate.
@ CKT - cheers fella. The inverse colour scheme came out well in the end, I wasn't too sure about bone cloaks to start with if I'm honest.
@ Loki73 - heh cheers mate :) sometimes the simplest ideas are the best.

Almost done....just a heads up on WiP for me - the last 6 Wardens, Nymeria herself (although she is already finished - sneak pic to come), a chariot (finally) and possibly Hiroth as well....

OK, after the housesitting and a chaotic week followed by a weekend of tidying around the flat (still tons to do :() I am getting around to some comments at last!

MOMUS - I like the bright colours and always good to see classic Lizzies, but I feel the faces could use more definition - then again, easy enough to go back over after your Tourney

EmperorNorton - Cracking Hydra and Sorceress, you've really captured the 'Sea-Witch' vibe with the swirling waters.

Loki73 - Savage Orcs looking great as ever, and that Troll Vomit looks positively disgusting! (in a good way :D)

Malorian - Decent conversions and paint job, though I feel the skin and bone could do with a wash to make it pop more.

gogs78 - Great looking Elves, I still love the purple and gold theme.

Braad - Fantastic conversion wor, I didn't even realise it was converted til I re-read your post! Hope you get to use all of the flying brigade sometine :)

GuardsmenHawke - Generally good looking elves, there are a couple of blotchy areas ont he chariot which could use a touch up (mainly the 'wings' at the back)

Kaos - Loving the bright blue on the Dwarfs, makes a good contrast with the usual dark, earthy schemes I see. Love the wall paintings too, looks great!

Tekore - Decent enough Treekin - hard to make out details like faces though (though tbh that's an issue with the minis rather than your painting).

Laborius - Solid Ogres, will look great as part of the army.

azhagmorglum - Great use of deep colouring, and I love the patchwork cloak on the Orc shaman. Like the grey Squig as well, makes a good contrast to the usual bright red ones.

Rikk - The markings on the giant spider look great, overall a neat job.

Great horned owl - Very natural looking scheme on the eagle, I especially like the different browns on the wings.

colonel kane trine - Solid work on the gribblies this month, though I feel they could benefit from a wash to deine the shading more, especially the spawn on the left.

doomscape - Great work on the Dwarfs, you've managed to keep them unified as a unit despite having different bright colours on them. Loving the Deffroller filler - reminds me of a madcap plan I once had to have a unit of them in my DOW as counts-as Ogres with Greatweapons. Solid work on the Daemons too.

Doi - Boobs! Those ladies are gonna be cold! More seriously, good work on the pale skin and the dark cloth on the assassin. The Stonehorn looks cracking too.

daismith906 - Amazing Ironblaster, shame you had to cheat ;) Good luck for next month!

JackDaw - Fantastic looking unit, I love the black/green contrast.

Morglum Necksnapper - Good work on the filthy little green beggars. The pump wagons are very characterful and ramshackle, look like they'll fall apart as soon as the wind changes :D

perplexiti - Generally good looking Dwarfs and Lizardmen, but could perhaps use some more contrast between colours.

andrewdrexler - Shame to hear about you getting out of the hobby, I hope all goes well and you get a good buyer for the woodies.

Morkash - Good work on the Ettin, looks gnarly. Could do with some tatoos or markings to break up the vast expanses of flesh though.

DAGabriel - Suitable gribbly carrion and neat chariot, keep up the good work.

Shandowner - Digging the Spartan Elf theme, though the Swordmasters could do with more bodies and less empty space.

Darnok - Shame to hear it, I hope you get motivation for the fat lardies soon!

Fabius Bile - Nice work on the Thundertusk, generally solid work and the ice base is fantastic!

Purplebeard - Grudgethrowers looking great so far, and goos work with the Chaos nasties. Love the rainbow hair, reminds me of my namesake figure from many years ago.

And some replies

yellow is difficult to paint is a common thought. Yours looks bright and clean. However your pictures are a bit dark, I think there is a bad contrast with the background.
Iyanden Darksun + Cygnar Yellow = easy yellow ;)
And yeah, the pics are pretty terrible. In my defence I was housesitting at the weekend so pretty much just grabbed my camera and painting stuff, didn't really have a good area to take pics. I will do some better ones sometime.

Nice man, I like the use of 'Light shot' great idea.
Cheers - essentially I already had a ton of handgunners from when I was about to start an Empire army and decided against replacing them all with crossbows.

Let’s see an army shot! I love how your stuff is turning out, pity my Empire’s all finished. You a fan of the new handgunner models? The old single-pose do have a certain charm, I think.
I am planning on an army shot for month 6 now I'm no longer housesitting and have access to all my figs and usual photgraphy area.
I like both types of handgunner, will be having a mix (I already have some new ones with Crossbows painted up from the last Tale)

Congratulations on finishing. 40-odd figures in a month is good going. Please do an army shot next month though.
Thanks, I have been unusually motivated this tale. I will get an army shot done this month, I promise!

So, what next? Technically I've finished my 2k, but I'm not out of the tale just yet! I still have loads to paint up, although I can't commit to a points value just yet (as I haven't figured it out yet!).

I have already painted up a few characters this month, am practicing some speed painting techniques which have gone well so far.

I have also dug out a bunch of my previous characters and named them, I am hoping to get the chance to write up a paragraph or too of fluff for each of them (having been inspired by reading JackDaw's army thread recently).

Ok, screw the switch to ogres. It was a total flop...

I tried an African theme and it just didn't work... every time I try to get back at it it looks like garbage.

Guess I'm sticking with orcs...

Ok, it's comments time....... here goes:

@MOMUS - Good looking lizzies!
@Emperornorton - Sorceress looks great, love the Hydra
@Loki73 - Brilliant Savage Orcs as usual - you have a very characterful army there
@Malorian - cool Stonehorn, looks great with the Orc Warboss on it
@Gogs78 - Very neat, well painted elves
@Braad - That's a fine collection of Wyverns
@GuardsmenHawke - Great Chariot!
@Kaos - Very nice dwarves, love the blue wood!
@Laborious - cool Leadbelchers!
@AzhagMorglum - Great looking Shamen(?) - the skintones have come out particularly well
@Rikk - looks like you had fun there
@ZarktheDamned - Good to see the Averland colours!
@GreatHornedOwl - nice work, love the base
@Colonel Kane Trine - That's a lot of work - well done!
@Doomscape - those are very colourful dwarves!
@Doi - Nice flying Pegasus, Stonehorn and Rider turned out well - I love that kit!
@DaiSmith906 - Cool Ironblaster - your Ogre skin tones are starting to grow on me, not sure about the gnoblars being the same colour though
@Jackdaw - love the colour scheme, it really works on those Dark Elves!
@Morglum Necksnapper - I love what you do with your bases, and the converted Pump Wagons!
@Perplexiti - great work as always
@Morkash - Love the skin tone on the giant - very cool!
@DAGabriel - That Carrion looks suitably repulsive!
@Shandowner - Great looking unit - very unique!
@Purplebeard - Nice stonethrowers, love the dwarf's blue beard!

@fabius bile-thats a very nice looking stonehorn love the base how did you do it?

I used Laborious's recipe he used for his yhettee ice weapons, as described here:

Cheers! It's really, really simple, and discovered by accident:

Astronimican grey basecoat

Watery wash of vallejo electric blue (or gw ice blue) all over. Don't bother mixing the paint too much if it's separated in the pot, helps with the effect.

reapply astronomican grey as 1st highlight.

50/50 mix astronomican grey / skull white.

Skull white as a final highlight.

The base itself was 6 pieces of slate from the garden, set in model filler.

Switch back... to what precisely? Was it 2 times orcs?

Comments for everyone on page 1:
@Momus: Looking good and nice bases. I think just a little more highlights on the scales would make them even better. Or does the photo not show the colours as they are?
@EmperorNorton: I see you have got your mojo back. And not a little bit. These are gorgeous. I want to see more, keep it up.
@Loki73: Nice rich greens and contrasting blue and orange. Whatís the purple one on the left in the first picture?
@Malorian: over a 1000 points in one month? Look out or youíll end up as Colonel Kane Trine . Just kidding. They all look good. Maybe a few close-ups next time? I would like to see the expression on their faces.
@gogs78: These are as clean and bright as the others you did. That will be an impressive armyshot at the end of the Tale.
@Braad: Iím glad you were able to post pictures this month. I donít know the Azhag model that well, so I hadnít noticed that you changed the jaw. In my opinion conversions that look natural are the best.
@GuardsmenHawke: Well done, sorry to hear that you dropped out. The buyer is a lucky person.
@Kaos: I like it. The dwarf with the barrel is one of my favourite dwarfs. The markings on the gun from yellow to red are a nice detail.
@Tekore: I am not a fan of these models either. But you have made them look the best they can. Well done.
@Laborious: I like the goblin too. The ogres are good, but maybe I would have made their hands and arms a bit dirty.
@azhagmorglum: the extra time spent on your characters paid off. Good Shading and highlighting.
@Rikk: I hate spiders, but I would like to see a close up of the crew. As far as I can see they are very good.
@Zark the Damned: Nice Ďdioramaí with the priest blessing the gun/gunman. I think large blocks of handgunners look a bit boring. You have solved that problem very well.

Page 2
@colonel kane trine: The herd is growing steadilyÖ..look out, thereís a nurgle champion trying to infect your gors! You didnít mention him, did you count him as a gor?
@doomscape (dwarfs): I like your dwarfs and the fluff you wrote. Why donít you start a plog so I can read more please?
@doomscape (demons): I like those old furies. And the juggernaut looks very aggressive. Great pose.
@Doi (dark elves): Well done, very sinister. Maybe a bit too dark for my taste, but thatís why I donít have dark elves of course.
@Doi (ogres): Impressive. A lot of work for one month and well done. Nice aged look on the gutplate.
@daismith906: Your friend has done a good job. The blue on the ogre looks a bit brighter than on your own ogres. Or is that just the photo?
@JackDaw: your guards (and Nymeria) are great. Even better if you have read the fluff. People who havenít read it should take a look at your plog. I love it.
@Morglum Necksnapper: very creative modelling and painting. Havenít you got more models so you can continue the Tale?
@perplexiti (dwarfs): the white dwarf, another of my favourites. Job well done. The anvil is also very good.
@perplexiti (Lizardmen): Looking good. Sadly the photo is a bit blurred, I would like to take a better look at their heads.
@Morkash: That is creepy, but in a good way.
@DAGabriel: congratulations on finishing the tomb kings. Will you give us an armyshot now or in the last month (or both)?
The base is great, maybe add a little more red on the edges of the yellow?

Page 3
@shandowner: congratulations on finishing the army. A very creative version of the high elves. Looking forward to seeing the chaos dwarves.
@Fabius Bile: You have made a great balanced model. The poses, colours and base fit very well together. My compliments.
@purplebeard (dwarves): I like it already, donít change it too much.
@purplebeard (chaos): Yes, the heroquest witch lord. I have been waiting for that. I love it. The others are also great. I like the rainbow hair.
Now that I see that, I wonder what colour hair do your dwarf slayers have? Just curious.

Purplebeard

Replies:

@JackDaw: I know. They can't all have purple beards, though a good number do (he does have a purple cloak though!). The last few remaining bits of my sanity might be destroyed if I were to deploy an all-purple force. Or that of my opponents. And I don't want to be held responsible for that. So I've thrown in a few other beard colours. Variety is the spice of life etc etc ;)

@Zark the Damned: Thank you. The grudgethrowers are proving to be good fun to paint. I'll definitely pick up more Foundry figures in future.
I don't know what the original colour scheme for the Warlock was, but I think he was in a really old WD (?). I'd love to know more about him.

@Fabius Bile: Thank you. They are good fun to paint. War machines are the way forward for me.

@Great horned owl: Yep - got it. I'm only lightening the red, adding details to the dragon heads, and then highlighting/shading. And maybe 1 more layer on the beard.

As for the Heroquest figure, I sat on it for ages, because I wanted to copy the original colours from the figure on the side of the box. Amazingly, I failed to find the pics from the side of the box on boardgamegeek or elsewhere online, and have ahd to wait for months. I finally found the pic I was after - White Dwarf 113, pg 35. It isn't a perfect copy by any means but it'll serve its purpose. I'll sort out the Rainbow Warlock with a realistic butterfly pattern on his wings, but I have to do the research first.

My slayers all have different beard and hair colours, as do the rest of my Dwarves. I mix them pretty randomly, and include all of the normal hair colours plus purples, blues, and greens. There are slayer pics on pages 5 and 8 of my plog (link in my sig). The only thing is that I have now seen some on another plog somewhere with striped hair patterns and they look amazing.

I'll keep mine as they are though, and put that other plogger into my book of grudges, for coming up with an even better idea grrr.

Hey folks, it is with much sadness that I'm going to have to withdraw from the TOFP for this year all together =( Of everything I was hoping to paint for this month in order to catch up I have only managed to paint 3 Ogre Bulls and therefore only 6 since the start of the Tale so I am miles off target. I am enjoying painting again but unfortunately I just can't dedicate much time to it due to other commitments. I will still carry on painting and update my PLOG (see my sig) when I have done stuff but need to carry on at my own pace. Will still keep checking in on these every month and offering comments though as I am certainly inspired to keep painting by the work I see here.

Well, I found a camera, and I'm bringing it up to the wife tomorrow. Seems like it's a good point and shoot, but has a lot of advanced features for more intense phography, but it's under 300 bucks because it's a year old model.. The good thing is, you can find them for 275 bucks! It's the Nikon P7000, and it WILL be mine!

edit* - Whoohoo!!! Just bought the camera brand new on amazon and picked up a 32 Gig SD card for 23 bucks extra... I can finally take pics and experiment with my new lamp.. oh tax time, oh tax time, you are indeed my favorite holiday!!!

Almost the end of the month, how are you guys faring with your february work?
For my part, I've almost finished the 5 orc boyz. The 5 black orcs are near completion as well, still need to add the weathering on their armor. As for the rock lobber, haven't really work on it that much, but as soon as I touch it, it should go rather quickly. Now I have to find some time to paint the crew also :-S

Hi, I have finished 18 Plague monks, which finished that unit of 45. I have also started Snitch which I will be painting during next month as well.

Points finished this month is 126, I think.

Low points: non.
High points: finished unit!
Dice roll 4.

Sorry no pictures but the monks looks the same as the ones from last month.

I'll hopefully get a WIP picture of Snitch tomorrow night. I'll also take a picture of the unit with the Plauge Furnace.

Thanks

Comment time!

Page 1:
MOMUS: You got alot of stuff done this month, nice! I like the Chameleons' colour and their bases!
EmperorNorton: The Sorceress is ace, a great model which you've done justice for sure! The hydra is huge!
Loki73: Yay, Savage Orcs! I love them, great skin and the warpaint looks very authentic! Wurrzag also came out nice without looking overloaded, good job.
Malorian: Hehe, da greasy bastardz. :D This tournament sounds fun for sure, a Stonehorn is a fitting mount for any Warboss for sure...
gogs78: Great painting on those Elves. The prince came out great, very clean and fittingly noble painting!
Braad: Triple Wyvern look nasty! I like the subtle conversion of the Warboss.
GuardsmenHawke: Nice, you also got a lot done! I like the red. Good luck on that horde, looks impressive even now!
Kaos: What a lovely model, did you paint the clockhand (right word?) on the chassis or is it molded? The choice of colours is awesome, as is the painting on the wall!
Tekore: This already looks like an army, well done! Nice wood on the treekin.
Laborious: My favourite Ogre miniatures and they look great!
azhagmorglum: Great painting on lovely models. I particularly like the grey squig, but the shades of red on the left one are great as well!
Rikk: Oooh, a nice spider queen! She turned out great, the white pattern on her back is very impressive!
Zark the Damned: Congratulations on reaching the 2000 points! Funnily I used the exact same miniatures with the exact same explanation in my DoW army. Hehe. :D
Great horned owl: The Eagle turned out very good, base fits perfectly as well. Hope your father is on his way to recovery!

Page 2:
colonel kane trine: Unbelievable what you achieve to put out every month. I spend two evenings for just green stuffing the Doombull! (and no, he's not even basecoated yet...^^) good job!
doomscape: Oh lovely, lovely old Dwarf models. Awesome work, both the painting and the amount of it are very impressive! The old furies look certainly interesting, I think I never saw them before.
Doi: Nice job on sculpting the hair! Looks good overall, the wyches' heads were a good choice. I love the Stonehorn!
daismith906: Very impressive Ironblaster! Great job from whoever did it. The cannon itself looks fantastic and the rest treasure chest is a nice addition.
JackDaw: AWesome conversion for the Black Guard, the cloak definately fits their status. Great conversion and painting on Morvain as well! I'm looking forward to the WIP stuff as well, looks very promising indeed!
Morglum Necksnapper: The snotlings are so cool, especially the one with the smoke! Congrats on finishing!
perplexiti: Looks good, nice work on the anvil! I also like the skin colour on the Lizards!
DAGabriel: I like the base, it should fit very well as long as it doesn't steal too much attention from the Hellcannon itself. The Carrion also goods good.

Page 3:
Shandowner: Congrats on finishing! You certainly got an impressive army done in such a short time. Great job!
Fabius Bile: Awesome conversion on the mouth and horns. The base also came out fantastically!
Purplebeard: Looking forward to see that stuff fully painted! The Lord looks like an awesome sculpt for sure. I also love the Heroquest sorcerer and the Rainbow Warlock (:D)!

Replies to comments:
perplexiti: Thanks! I was quite afraid of him because of the skin, I never like the skin tone in the end, he is the first miniature where I like the skintone! :D
doomscape: Thanks! The creepiness was one of the main reasons I wanted him. He has this "disturbing chaos" feeling, not the "people with tentacles and/or spiky armour" Chaos. If that makes sense. :)
Purplebeard: I hope he will be! ;)
DAGabriel: Thanks! The sculpt itself is a matter of taste for sure.
colonel kane trine: We got a winner! :D It is indeed a Firebelly, though I'm still afraid of the flames and will maybe paint something else. We'll see...^^ I can only recommend the model, I love it alot!
Loki73: Jup, he was my first Forgeworld purchase and I guess he won't be the last...;)
JackDaw: Wow, many thanks! I'm always tinkering around to get better pictures, but in the end it is only a phone...and two IKEA lamps. But hope dies last, doesn't it?^^
Zark the Damned: Thank you! On the tattoes: Thought about it as well, but I'm too afraid of it at the moment. I can barely achieve anything good on flat Ogre skin, so better not ruin the good Ettin for now. Later, maybe! :)
Fabius Bile: Thanks!
Great horned owl: Thanks, that is exactly what he should achieve!

That's it for this month... what will you see from me next month? Well, I do not know. Firebelly scares me, maybe I'll finish the Thundertusk these days. We have to wait, I know as little as you do. :D

SO BSB:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v114/gibsn1960/DSCN0040.jpg

keep in mind, I haven't explored the full potential of this camera yet, and these pics were taken with NO tripod, and only the light from the lamp above. so no flash. It has a stabilizer mechanism in it to help with no flash photography, and I'd say it works. Anyway....
Do you guys think the banner looks done? or should I go 'all out' with it and make it look like the pig is burning or anything else?
thanks!

lol, yeah black ops had me like that. I picked up MW3 and played it about halfway through the first prestige and put it down. Go for it man, glad you dig the model. I've also got another one up my sleeve, but I'll go ahead and tell. I'm picking up one of the new orc totems to use as a giant. I was torn on using the Ultraforge giant, but it still just didn't quite work with the theme of this list. Magical energies used to summon a pile of rocks! Now THAT seems like a Wurrzag list.

Army: Tomb Kings

Units: 10 additional archers, 20 additional hw+shield skellies, 3 Necro Knights.

Monthly Points: 60+100+195=355

Total Points: somwhere around 3500...ish

Lows: Need another 25 skellies and loads of cavalry. I don't like painting bone and the same details over and over and over and over again... Think I'll do some skellies and the Ushabti next month (get my spear unit to 50 and my Ushabti to 6).

Highs: 30 skellies less to go... and used Settra (addition from last month) in a game and he kicks ass! Btw, so do the Necro Knights, who have seen two games and survived both while keeping my flanks safe.

Well, that's about the size of the entire army if you employ all of it, including tooled up characters and Settra. But that's not what I painted during the tale... in the tale I did 355+875= 1230
