View Full Version : If the rumors about Chaos Marines are true, and the new Codex has Cultists/Traitors..

how do you want GW to model them? Rumors are saying that the new starter set may have Space Marines vs. Chaos, with possible cultists helping out the Chaos Marines. These guys have been portrayed countless ways over the years. If GW does make a kit for them, what do you think they will look like? I love the ones portrayed in Forgeworld's line, and I also really like how they are portrayed in the newest Space Marine game. However, I'm not a fan of how they look in the Dawn of War series. (Too evil, not gritty and military enough for my tastes).

Personally I would like to see some that look like the average person in the 41 millennium that's turned to Chaos, picked up a gun and started fighting, but I suppose that could be handled by using Necromunda models. Still, some new models along those lines would be very nice. Likewise, a approach to some more military-based models that look akin to the FW release would be a tasty treat.

Cultists =/= traitors.

Cultists should like loonies in robes (ie: DoW style, like Empire Flagellants), while traitors should be evil guardsmen, as in Space Marine.

I think having either lasguns or pistols/ccws allows to differentiate between the screaming loonies and the half-decently trained troops to an extent, but at the end of the day, in a list that focuses primarily on CSM they're going to be cannon fodder and little else - battalions of Traitor Guardsmen should appear in a book that's a bit more dedicated to them. Therefore I'd also guess that these guys are not going to be the infiltration specialists that they were in the 3.5 book, I think the majority of Chaos Marines would be unwilling to leave such important and skillful tasks to mere mortals. In this vein I also suspect they wouldn't get a huge range of equipment either, resources are limited and the last thing the bosses want to do is hand out precious meltas and plasma weaponry to the fodder. Perhaps some flamers, some kind of suicidal det-pack and maybe some nasty Chaos-specific light gun, possibly some sort of grenade launcher with spiky poisoned projectiles (pure speculation, of course).

I'd like them to start with the look of the previous cultists we had like this (http://www.ebay.com/itm/warhammer-40k-limited-edition-classic-chaos-cultist-/110613130653?pt=UK_Toys_Wargames_RL&hash=item19c10e6d9d), this (http://www.ebay.com/itm/warhammer-40k-limited-edition-classic-chaos-cultist-/110613129319?pt=UK_Toys_Wargames_RL&hash=item19c10e6867), and this (http://www.ebay.com/itm/warhammer-40k-limited-edition-classic-chaos-cultist-/120602924086?pt=UK_Toys_Wargames_RL&hash=item1c147e9436), and go from there.

The Shadow Over Innsmouth of the far future? Count me in!

Cultists =/= traitors.

+1. Although equipment options that encourage kit bashing multiple ranges would be in GW's best financial interests. I would love to field units of complete garbage, bullet sponge rabble in robes and rags (a new kit) and have other, slightly more coherent / better trained units (kit bashed guard) led by robed cult magisters.

Really starting to get excited for this release!

Forgeworld already has Renegade and Rogue Psyker models.. I suppose the models would be very similiar to those. Also note that the video game "Space Marine" featured both these unit types, which again, were modeled exactly after the forgeworld models.

A new kit of Imperial civilians in various clothing styles and in non-military poses (but including arms suitable for optionally holding weapons) would be all that's needed - then mix and match with other existing kits for almost any cultist/traitor or loyal civilian. i reckon it would sell decently. If designed right, it could even be used for WHFB too.

I think this whole traitors/cultists thing was based on a ';)' smiley... heh. I'd bank on lesser daemons being this non marine unit in the box, assuming this rumour ontop of another shakey rumour be true :D

It really depends on the legion. Storm of iron showed enslaved guard and traitor guard. Alpha Legion would have proper trained operatives.

Very cheap bullet magnets are what we're after. I don't really care as long as they look cool.

These were far too uniform, I really disliked them

This would be an awesome idea! A kind of kit that you could mix and match with other human kits like the Imperial Guard, Chaos Marauders and various others to get loads of options.

From that you could get traitor Guardsman and regular cultsts and more inner circle types.

For my Iron Warriors I would like to see people wearing simple overalls and gerenally dirty and in terrible condition.

I think there would be generic cultists who can be either rabble or near guard equivalents.

WS3 BS3 S3 T3 W1 I3 A1 Ld6 Sv 6+ about 5 points each, equipped with either lasguns or las pistol and close combat weapons. Probably 1 in 5 get a special weapon, with a maximum unit size of 20. Allow a Chaos Space Marine to lead them to give them Ld9 or fearless.

I could go for some Penal Legion types wearing generic coveralls who are released from prison (cause we all know everyone in prison is there because of a travesty of justice, wrongly accused or framed) or some type of Imperial Guard technician; such as ordinance loaders, drivers, general laborers. The Imperium is built on slave labor, so where better for Chaos to find malcontents?

Robes and scavenged weapons (see Davin priests http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20111106061521/warhammer40k/images/3/3b/Davinite_Priests.jpg)
Imperial guard uniforms and some weapons (See volscani cataphracts)
dregs of society with low grade weapons (stubbers etc) and scrap metal plates strapped to clothing as armour (see vraksian renegades)
a freakish array of mutants, each more freaky than the last (see http://images.wikia.com/warhammer40k/images/1/18/Chaos_Renegades.jpg)
disciplined troops modeled on the imperial guard (see Blood Pact)

And everything inbetween
