Yes, I realise that this has been posted many times before, but no-one seems to actually respond. FUMBBL is an online Blood Bowl league open for everyone who wants to join in. As there is no set schedule, you can play whenever you have the time to do so.

There's not much to set up:
1. Register on FUMBBL (http://fumbbl.com/)
2. Download the Blood Bowl rules (http://specialist-games.com/bloodbowl/assets/lrb/LivingRulebook4.pdf) (6.2MB) from the Specialist Games website.
3. Download and install Java (http://java.sun.com/j2ee/1.4/download.html#sdk) if you don't have it already.
4. Download and unzip BBOnline 8.6 (http://javabbowl.no-ip.org/)]
5. Get Mozilla FireFox (http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/) if you're not already using it (not necessary but FireFox is great)
6. Get an IRC extension if you don't already have one (I recommend Chatzilla (http://www.mozilla.org/projects/rt-messaging/chatzilla/)).
7. Read the FUMBBL User Guide (http://fumbbl.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=phpWiki&file=index), create a team and start playing!
7a. To join the WBBL (WarSeer Blood Bowl League), you must create a new Unranked team of one of the 'standard' races and PM me or Iscariot on FUMBBL. This team should be used only for games against other WBBL teams and should have FF 5 or more.

EDIT: Okay, so there's quite a lot to set up, but it's well worth it.

By the way, technically you must own the Blood Bowl boxed set to use BBOnline. I certainly do, and of course I would never encourage anyone, even my fellow WarSeers, to evade GW copyright laws... ;)

Blood Bowl-related PMs should be sent via FUMBBL, not WarSeer. League information and news will be posted on the league page. Ideas and submissions that affect the whole league should be posted in this thread.

For WarSeer discussion in the IRC chat, use the channel #warseer. This can be accessed by pressing Ctrl+J when in the chat, typing 'warseer' and hitting Enter.

Actually, legally, to play, you need to own the LRB. Since that's conveniently available for free on the Specialist website...

I have recently been investigating JavaBloodBowl and FUMBBL to try and re-create the leagues of my youth given that my teams need revamping and I live 200 miles away from everybody else. However given that I haven't got that going yet would anyone be up for a Warseer league. IIRC there was one tried before but I didn't have regular internet access. Anyone up for it?

Keravin
09-05-2006, 20:21
Yeah I'd probably play in a Warseer league on Fumbbl.

My luck is abysmal though.

Jet
09-05-2006, 20:50
Yeah the previous Warseer group fell a little flat on its face. If a league were to go ahead, I'd like people to play a few games first just to show some commitment. Since if anyone leaves a league, it spoils everything.

However, it would be a brilliant idea, and I hope it gathers support. Playing people you have some connection with is much more interesting than playing randomers.

Hope to see you all on the pitch :D.

Gres

That's the problem with online campaigns, it's easy to say yes and not be worried that the league commisioner will come round your house and shout at you for not playing your games. I'm willing to play some one off games - anyone want a match on Thursday (Hopefully). I haven't created or played through FUMBBL yet so I would like to give it a go.

Yorkiebar
09-05-2006, 22:01
Yeah, for now I'd like to just paly one-off games and try to get more WarSeers to join. If we get eight or so, a tournament would be pretty good.

Rik Valdis
09-05-2006, 22:17
I'm up for this. 1-off games are definately a better idea, at least to start with, especially as we are probably all in different time zones.

Best time to try again then Jedi - just the 1.3 Client and the 1.5 patch.

Mind you, it's sad when the teams included with the client are incorrectly calculated.

Typical, I set myself up yesterday and I was just about to try and have a game and see how it works....

I am very rusty with BB rules and tactics (I havent played for years) but if anyone fancies a game in the future I'm Rik_Fricis over there for easy identification.

Well this all sounds good, looks like we have a handful of players. Looking forward to playing you all. I'm happy to give anyone an academy game any time if they're looking to get to grips with the rules and the client.

If you're missing your fix while the server is down, you can always direct connect with someone you know. You will have to have the team already on your PC, though.

I joined fumbbl on thursday, and graduated academy last night :) (Played a dozen games already)

I'm getting to be much better at it, my opponents generally are impressed by my skill, for such a rookie :)

I'm TKitch on fumbbl as well. I'm on evenings (frequently) and weekends. (USA EST)

I am getting pretty good with my elves, as I' just got my first niggle :-/ Fourtinately its a low-skill lineman. if he gets killed, no apoth for him!

So is anyone going to start a league?

Karlon
20-05-2006, 04:37
Oh man, Fumbbl. Those were some good times.

I used to play a while back, almost had me a Legend of an Amazon player, but then I got into World of Warcraft and never really bothered again.

Funnily enough, my main opponent was my mate Isciarot (Autobot HQ), who lives just down the road. I have seen him for like... ages. What are the odds that we both find this thread, and both post on it within a few days of eachother?

Im thinking I should start playing again, it was fun.

Id definately take part in some sort of Warseer League. If anyone is up for a game, let me know on MSN Messenger at karlon_@hotmail.com

EDIT: My name is Karlon over there too. And Stu, sign into MSN you git.

Seeing as we have plenty of players (14 so far), I'm going to create a WarSeer league. My preference would be a private group with scoring enabled, but I'm unsure about team entry regulations. Do we want to go for new teams only, teams with a TR/Strength of under 150 only, or allow any WarSeer teams to join?

Gres
20-05-2006, 15:11
I would preferably like to start with new teams (ie EternalKnight has just given me a pasting) so we all start off about equal.

Is there any info on the set-up or scoring system you propose to use?

A neutral shade of black.
20-05-2006, 15:17
New teams, yes. That would give me an excuse to create the ranked Druchii team I want. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to try and make sense of the BB rules.

(I may not be able to play at all in the league due to several issues, though.)

Keravin
20-05-2006, 17:28
I'd prefer just warseer players for our first tournament.

Karlon
20-05-2006, 17:55
Id prefer new teams in a private league. Preferably a full league, whereby every player plays the others X times, so everyone gets an equal amount of games and there are no runaway teams.

I request this for your own protection of course, Id still like you lot to enjoy yourselves whilst I thrash my way through the fixtures ;)

Autobot HQ

I think we should start with a small KO tournament, just to see who are those who are really going to put a little effort into playing the games.

Yorkiebar
21-05-2006, 11:28
Okay, I've been through your profiles and invited every new team I found to the league. If you haven't received an invite, create a new team and send me a PM with the exact name. If you received an invite for a team you don't want in the league (only one team per WarSeer can join) then just decline it, create a new team in unranked or academy and PM me.

Keravin
21-05-2006, 13:06
You can't play unranked vs academy can you?

Autobot HQ
21-05-2006, 13:42
In reguards to the league itself, I think it should be unranked teams only, brand spanking new. Each team should play each other team twice (home and away games) and organise the points system like the Premier League. At the end of the season the top four teams will play for the Warseer Championship Cup

1st vs 3rd
2nd vs 4th

This gives a) the chance for 1st and 2nd to meet in the final which they should seeing as they did the work. Could also mean an upset victory taking 3rd or 4th into the final! The winners of the WCC get a permenant +1FF, a championship purse and two MVP awards chosen by the fans (random).

The bottom four teams play in the Warseer Relegation Play-Off in the same system. Say for example we have 14 teams, it'd look like this:

14 vs 12
13 vs 11

The losers of those matches play each other, and the loser of that match suffers a permanent -1FF as the crowds just desert them.

How's that sound? yorkiebar PM me if you want help setting it all up

A-HQ

Yorkiebar
21-05-2006, 14:31
That sounds great A-HQ. I'll just go retract the invitations to academy teams.

Keravin
21-05-2006, 14:32
Set up a Brand new Unranked team to play then.

Yorkiebar
21-05-2006, 14:54
I'll be offline now until this evening. Just one more item of business before then - One or two of you should be part of the league staff to manage it when I am on holiday or when we have busy periods. Anyone with a good working knowledge of FUMBBL and the Blood Bowl rules is welcome to apply, just drop me a PM.

EDIT: Ideas for rules, penalties, tournaments and background are welcome.

EDIT EDIT: Read the bottom of the first post.

Karlon

Ive created my team for use in the Warseer League. I got a bit nervous with all those Dwarves around, so Ive gone for Norse this time.

Marnus
23-05-2006, 11:27
I just got an idea! How about setting up a warseer chat in the fumbbl IRC channels? it will allow us to contact with each other a lot easier. however we could always have everyone set up seperate hotmail address and contact each other via messanger but i think irc would be easier and its quick and easy to download.

P.S. Do you need any topies for the winner of the league to show off becuase I can handel it and maby some runner up trophies . Like drawings and stuff and we can send them through there email? It would be a nice touch dont you think? stop me if im an idiot. lol

Jet
23-05-2006, 14:02
Sounds good Marnus.

On the other hand...argh! Since when did it become a KO tournament. My elves will die!

Keravin
23-05-2006, 16:09
This is why I'm not playing Dark Elves or Skaven.

Karlon
23-05-2006, 19:37
Heh, ditto. My first choice was Amazonians but half of the league has Tackle, so I went with something more hitty.

I nearly went for Orcs but ive never tried Norse in any depth, so they won me over.

Yorkiebar
23-05-2006, 21:26
On the other hand...argh! Since when did it become a KO tournament. My elves will die!Mine hopefully won't. I gave up a re-roll to get myself an apothecary straight away. I've had too many experiences of team members dying in debut matches.

Jet
23-05-2006, 22:49
I just wish I'd been told beforehand or I would have thrown some undeads in.

Well I hope the tournament is succesful and is played quickly. Then we can get onto the league! Would it be a good idea to continue the league on with the teams that finish the KO tournament? Would mean we could have a sort of seeding or "favourites" system, as well as some grudge matches :).

Well I got munched. Luck owned me, and Benni did play very well. Retired the Cdorfs and will create a new team, beaten as bad as they were they don't deserve to live.

Not one to offend me as anyone who's played me knows, but I'm not alone in thinking it's a bit suspect that you changed your team after deciding it was a KO tourny, and that you've placed all the pre-skilled players in the quaters and semi you aren't in, as well as 'randomly' drawing the easiest team to play against. 11 Longbeards will be danced by, and you happened to collect them and then have to play against one of two other new players?

I personally think you should of incorperated staff into the system first before running the KO tourny so it wasn't resting on one, sorry but possibly biase, head.

Sorry again

I created the WarSeers before the tournament style was decided and haven't changed a thing. I took an apothecary because I've had some bad experiences of first-match nigglers and deaths in the past. The first round matches were entirely random and I wouldn't call an entire team with tackle an easy opponent. You should also note that my team strength is in fact the lowest in the league. If you really don't believe me, read the FUMBBL help section - it is impossible to choose exactly who plays who, even as league administrator. Finally, I don't have any staff because I simply haven't decided who to use yet. I'll do it now.

And congratulations to skinnydookie, shame about the death.

The Norse vs. the High Elves kicked off in front of what turned out to be a very boring, one sided crowd. The luck meter of ~70 to ~40 in favour of the elves meant everything. All but 1 pickups for the Norse rolled 1, practically every GFI failed, and the Elves rolled POW or POW/Pushback on every 2db.

Good spirit shown by Karlon, shame about the measly winnings too.

Karlon
25-05-2006, 23:48
My Norse just got well and truly beat up by the Elves of Benny. I managed to pick the ball up once in the entire match, and didnt even make it into his half. Not a thing I could do to stop his runaway victory. Well played, lad!

PS:

Seeing as the league hasnt officially started yet (and we're still accepting members), Id like to put in for a team change. Ill stick with the Norse if I have to, but I dont feel comfortable with them in a competative environment.

Guys, you really have to try using the 1vs1 and 4vs4 leagues. You just create a team with one good player and a load of dumb linemen, then retire all the linemen. Games take only 10 minutes and you get SPPs fast - in just two days of playing my Chaos Warrior has become this (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=3083725).

Does this mean the league is now officially underway? It seems a little structureless to just say "ReadysetGO!" and let people play. He with the most time is going to run off with the league, as he can play the most games.

What happened to the league-style fixture list?

I definitely wouldn't mind an official league, especially among those who play a lot of games, it might even be over within a week, heh.

Skinnydookie
29-05-2006, 19:12
I agree their should be more structure (if possible).

How about having a deadline for people to join and then each person plays each other twice, with 3pts for a win and 1 for a draw?

Yorkiebar
29-05-2006, 19:58
Okay, if you'd all prefer a fixed schedule, I'll start running monthly tournaments starting on the 1st and 17th of each month, in which everyone plays everyone. It'll make it easier to keep track of games and teams, I suppose. From now on teams may be freely retired and replaced but only between tournaments, and points will be deducted if tournament games are not played on time.

EDIT: I've got exams so the first of these tournaments will be run by A-HQ/Iscariot.

Skinnydookie
30-05-2006, 18:16
Yeah sometimes the game will crash. This mostly happens in proxy so if you want to avoid this it is genrally better to do direct connections if you or you opponent can.

Its a good idea to be in fummbl chat whilst a game is on, so if it does crash you can contact the guy and sort out a re-load.

Gres
30-05-2006, 18:26
I have had trouble with errors that required a reload about 50% of the time. As mentioned above it's helpful to have some other means of communicating with your opponent and to sort out any of the wierd bug that are sometimes generated by a reload.

On the subject of the league, I'm liking the scheduled format better. Now just got to get same games in...

Ravening Wh0re

30-05-2006, 23:30
The admins told you to head to the forum since there are 2 sticky threads in the Client bugs forum detailing exactly the problem that you are experiencing.

The problem comes from not up-to-date network card drivers. Check the forum threads to see where you can get hold of game-safe drivers.

That does seem mighty harsh.

Anyway, whats the plan for the next league? (Warning: unrefined thoughts!) I was thinking that a (Weekend/week-long?) mini tourney between the lowest ranked teams might be an idea to bring them more up to speed with the established teams. Maybe this could be organised whilst we are waiting for the completion of the current league so as to keep the new joiners interested? Are we going to have a promotion push to try for some new recruits as well?

With many more potential players are we going to run two promotion/relegation divisions or maybe two conferences where the best 2/4 teams from each conference go onto a knockout stage. I think 8 is about the maximum size that we can run one league in as the current league seems to be dragging a bit as it is.

When are we going to have an MSN/IRC discussion about the future?

To further complicate things I might be moving house in the indeterminate future and so might not be able to play for a couple of weeks or so.

Yorkie: You might want to update the instructions in the first post to take into accound the change to JavaBBowl 8.6.

We have just had a meeting (With no Yorkies though) and have had some ideas. We should be setting up some short, 4 or so player quick leagues in order to allow new teams to be built up for a longer league. Now would be a good time to sign up and try a team out! We will have have to wait for Yorkies final decision (He IS the law).

Jet
17-07-2006, 01:16
Hmmm, I may have left MSN open inadvertantly while I was away...

Anyway, sounds like the situation I would approve of. My minor suggestions would be(I didn't find them in the discussion):

1) Divisions of 5 teams. I think 4 team divisions are too short, plus it suits our numbers quite nicely

2) TR caps on each division. Major disincentive to not be relegated, having to give up RR's or retire key players, plus allows growth from division to division, so the top will have the top games.

I'm still available for tournament staff if needs be and I think I would enjoy it too.

so I guess the tournament was a flop. If there is going to be another can someone let me know as I would like to join it.

Iscariot if you have the power can you just put Xavier and Ravening through so we can get this tournament done with. Its not like its a major tournament and we'd all it rather ends sooner so we actually can get on with another major.

Seems I forgot to mention I was going on holiday for 3 weeks. Sorry guys. This post is just to let you know that I may also be unavailable for the next couple of days, as I came back to a few smashed windows and burgled house which needs cleaning up :(.

Keravin

Can you stop the tournament then as it's a joke now?

Yorkiebar
14-08-2006, 19:26
No. I'll give skinnydookie a few more days, then put Ravening through.

EDIT: In fact, skinnydookie seems to be suffering from long-term lack of an Internet connection. Anyone want to take his place?

Tobacc0

i could play in skinnies place if need be...just add me to the roster and i will play ravening...

Jet
14-08-2006, 21:44
Hmm, now I don't have to play skinny, I can't possibly fail!

Can we even think about starting the league for season 2? I see our initial plan seriously peetering out if we blindly go ahead with it.

Ok, as this tourney took sufficiently long I am now back online at (the new) home and will now be able to play in the next tourney. Hurrah!

Yorkie: could you add tauaircaste's Necro team into the league?

http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=team&op=view&team_id=278891

ps, I noticed that Keravin has another team in the league. Does that mean we can all have another team as well?

Keravin
18-08-2006, 09:08
Yes you can have a brand new team that's never been played before.

Going to run a rookie league and then the premier one with the older teams.

Yorkiebar
18-08-2006, 10:36
At the moment rules state one team only. I'd like to keep this rule in effect so that people aren't playing in two tournaments at once. I'm afraid you'll have to decide on one team or the other Keravin.

Keravin
18-08-2006, 11:00
Except we had a conversation at the last IRC chat that said EXACTLY WHAT I JUST SAID.

Because of the delays and the discrepancies in the long running teams TR compared to the newbies was the reasoning.

Of course we can just keep going with tournies that should take a week, but instead take 4 due to people who aren't around being included.

Yorkiebar
18-08-2006, 11:07
Hmm. Okay, how about this. We have three tournament bands: TR<120, 121<TR<150 and 151<TR. You may have a maximum of one team active in each of these at any one time. So if your team reaches TR 121 after a match and you already have a 120<TR<150 team, you must declare one inactive and play with the other until it reaches TR 151.

And whenever you'll be away PM me and Iscariot.

Gres
18-08-2006, 19:19
Whatever we decide to do we have to be a lot more organised this time. The last tourney was facical in the amount of time taken to run it and the newbies on the whole havent been included properly which was the main intent of the last tourny.

We need another meeting to discuss options rather than leaping into something and we need more staff with power to run the tourneys if Yorkie is absent.

I thought we were going to run a 'Premiership' of established teams with frequent Rookie/Low TR tournys to build up teams to Premiership standard. That way we should be able to run long term and short term comps in the same system. How about each coach being allowed up to one 'Premiership' team at a time (A coaches Premiership teams can be withdrawn if another one of their teams qualifies or if they can't play an extended league for whatever reason) and as many other teams they wish to have (Only one allowed to be trying to qualify for Premiership status at once)? Other teams can take part in ad hoc tourneys if there is the interest. /random thoughs

I'm going away for the next week so won't be playing in those mini tournaments. When I return I would like to sort out the next league season though. The main thing is just to get people who play enough together.

Yorkiebar
21-08-2006, 09:02
Okay, the under 120 tournament will be up soon (once Xavier's goblins accept their invitation). Due to a lack of interest (only two teams) the 120-150 has been cancelled.

EDIT: Okay, just to get it started I included my WarSeers in the tournament lineup. Xavier's team will replace them once he accepts his invitation. I assure you the tourney was seeded randomly, I didn't deliberately get myself a match against puny goblins. Points will be 1 for a first round victory, 2 for a second round victory and 3 for a final victory.

EDIT EDIT: I've also created a 'Veterans' tournament for all the recently active teams above 150 TR. Points will be 2 for a win and 1 for a draw.

I'm considering removing the 120-150 band in favour of just under and over 150.

The veterans tourney is down to the last match again.

Gres
28-08-2006, 14:08
Lots of score draws going on the veterans tourney - have you all got the measure of each other?

Should be a good last game - Can the Elfshiners keep it together against 15 players including 4 Mighty Blows and a Dirty Player? Can the Dixies steal a tourney win against their run of form?

Ravening Wh0re

Use the chat button and open a java irc client, then just ask for games or use gamefinder and look on irc for your matched opponent.

IRc really is your best bet.

To avoid getting picked on by a muppet make sure you look at their profile and quite how experienced they are.

I should be around tonight GMT to play.

This is getting ridiculous. Xavier, give me the soonest time and day that you can play our match. If it's good for me too then we'll agree on that time, and if either of us fails to make it they forfeit.

Benny's Kung-Fu is weak, he must train harder.

TRANSLATION: Come on it's been 4 days - award me the victory and dub me the the great and all powerful Oz! ... Ok maybe not quite. But I've been on every night since Thursday and we are now into September when this was suppose to be over by August.

Wait 'til it's been a week. Patience is a virtue after all. As for my match, I've forfeited Xavier's team. I realise that it was me who cancelled our arranged match on Wednesday, but at least I gave notice. Xavier has simply not turned up for scheduled matches and not responded to my post from three days ago.

Autobot HQ
02-09-2006, 20:44
But I'd agreed Im ok to play in AUGUST, not September. I'm training all this week and next so might not be able to get on. Changing rules and condictions and extending deadlines is why we're dragging in the first place.

New tournament new teams?

Yorkiebar
06-09-2006, 08:42
New tournaments, but not new teams, unless you really want to. The idea of the league is to have a development of teams over time, so that eventually we won't need these newbie tournaments, except to help new members get started.

If you will be taking part in the next round of tournaments, please drop me a PM on FUMBBLE stating which of your teams you want to play in tournaments over the next couple of weeks. If I do not receive a PM from you you WILL NOT BE ENTERED.

tenpole, you don't have a valid team for the WBBL at the moment.

New tournaments (except newbies) are up, this time I've gone for three categories. If anyone sees Gres on MSN, tell him, because his connection is rather erratic and he might not read this for a while.

I've just learned my first piece of Fumbbl etiquette - avoid fouling late on in the game.

Today I also learned that I don't have the required tactics to defeat fast passing teams. This stems from the fact that I only ever seemed to play against human, orc and undead teams when I played the Real Game...

Now that the Middleweight tourney is over and the heavyweight almost over I suggest that next time we merge them. Three players does not a satisfying league make - and I won which suggest something aint right!

As the newbie tourney has not started is their any scope for reschedualing it and accepting some of the new teams or do we just wait and have a bigger newbie pool next time? The Elftown Lions fancy trying to make a recovery.
